Deckscapes did an amazing job installing our new 3 season porch. It is beautiful and so functional. Their team helped us with some choices to make it useful throughout the year. The project was completed in a timely manner, (considering the amount of rain we had this past spring. ) The team was very polite and knowledgeable. We interviewed 10 deck companies for our project, and Josh was the only designer who returned a rendering of our verbal design correctly on the first try. He listened to us and also offered valuable insight into improving our project. We started the project in the pandemic with product shortages, but the team adapted and as needed. This company was not the first company I reached out to, but they were the first to show up in person, first to compose an amazing backyard plan for me, first to estimate the job in great detail, and the first to be able to construct the deck for me. I couldn't have been more pleased with the communication, quality, or professionalism they demonstrated through the whole process. Very happy with our patio and deck space designed and built by Deckscapes. Sales / Design [A] - Josh did a great job of listening and bringing our ideas to life with beautiful designs. He provided helpful suggestions and insights. Quote was very detailed - knew exactly what we were getting and what cost was for different pieces of the project. Whole sales process did not feel pushy at all. They even were very flexible and worked with us when we made a design change after construction had started! Construction [B] - The reason this grade is not higher is communication. Crews would sometimes not show up on scheduled days with no word from project manager until late in the afternoon on whether they would show up at all or when they would show up next. Crews would not show up on scheduled days because of *forecast* of rain. But when the rain never materialized, texts to the project manager would go unanswered until too late. Sometimes questions asked were not responded to for several days (or at all). When you're spending tens of thousands of dollars on something you expect more timely and consistent communication. That wasn't always there. The reason this phase still gets a B is because when crews did show up, the quality of work was excellent. Carpentry, patio, and electrician all seemed to really know what they were doing and care about doing a good job. Crews were always very professional and kept a clean worksite Post-Construction [A+] - This is where Deckscapes has really knocked it out of the park for me. With most contractors, once the job is done and they've received final payment, you kind of expect them to disappear. We've had a few issues over the past year since the job wrapped up, and every time Deckscapes was quick to solve the problem to my satisfaction and no questions asked. Overall [A] - Despite some communication issues along the way, at the end of the day we have an outside space that we absolutely LOVE and feel like the quality of construction is top notch. Worst company I had to work with in a long time. I spent a long time finding a company and settled on them. I started June 1st to get a design done. It took 4 months, and we still did not have design without complaining. They were working on saving us money on the last change. After over a month with no response, when I finally complained, I got back the cheaper design with the same price as when they started. So, either they missed things on the original pricing and made me lose deck while keeping the same price. Or, they never did any changes over the months of telling me they were. I was to start my deck this year and instead, I am still getting started. I lost an entire year by starting with this company. My advice, do not use this company. read more

We first met Josh Franklin from Deckscapes at a local home show. After running the gauntlet of high pressure salesmen on the floor, Josh's approach was a refreshing change. He was the only one to take the time to focus on what we were looking for, how we planned to use our backyard and gave us some good insights, rather than just focusing on securing a follow up. We pursued quotes from 3 contractors and throughout the process, Josh was timely, communicated often and took our feedback directly into his final designs. The other contractors we evaluated really focused on their standard deck and/or screen porch option and pushed that pretty hard vs. what we actually wanted. We were able to find quotes that were higher and lower than Deckscapes, but I can say that the Deckscapes quote gave us the best value for our money. Josh's designs are very well rendered and allowed us to see exactly what we would be receiving, leaving little up to imagination. We selected Deckscapes in the end because they were very easy to do business with, worked with us to design exactly what we were looking for and provided a great deal of options that allowed us to pick and choose items from their quote to make the most of our budget. I have worked with many construction contractors in the past and I can say without a doubt that Deckscapes has been one of the most positive contract experiences. Not once did I need to follow up to see when they would be starting, when the crew would be showing up, etc. The build was timely. The construction team was driven to finish the work. While they worked long hours every day through heat and the occasional rain shower they were always upbeat and seemed to really enjoy their work. Mike, managed the project overall and Victor who lead the build team checked in often, kept a very clean job site and were great to our son who loved watching their progress every day. I am very concerned with quality and detail and was very happy to find a company that still cares about craftsmanship. We almost signed off with another company last year but felt they were pushy with their design and we weren't should it was what we wanted. We decided to wait and I'm glad we did. It was truly a pleasure to work with the team at Deckscapes of Virginia. The project entailed a new Trex deck, patio with firepit using pavers and a concrete pad for an outdoor home gym. Gene, the sales contact really helped to scope out the possibilities with reasonable options and both the deck (Victor) and patio crews (Kim) were attentive to detail and conscientious about every aspect of the project. When we encountered an issue about a potential low spot in an area they were excavating, the owner of the company came to our house at 10pm to help us create a short term workaround to prevent any water pooling in the area as rain was forecasted in the morning. The project managers (Jay and Kimi) stayed in contact throughout the project and were really great to work with. I appreciated having an open and proactive team on this large project and would recommend them without hesitation. read more
