As I was passing down the street, I could smell some delicious smells coming from the Great Harvest Bread shop. I decided to stop in. The fresh bread and baked goods looked amazing. They were busy and the person behind the counter was doing a great job of taking care of everyone. The store is well organized and you can clearly see where to order and where to pick up and pay for your order. I discovered the smell that caught my attention was the pumpkin bread. Tuesday 3/11/25 Everything stays the same compared to my previous review (monkey bread is still good) but I wanted to increase my rating to a 5/5 due to the spectacular service I experienced from the store manager Seth. We were trying to access my app rewards for great harvest bread so I could get my free goodie for my birthday but for some reason it wasn't fully set up with the Rockville location yet. He did his best in terms of trying to get it set up but the bosses were still working on the issue. To make sure my drive wasn't wasted, he kindly gave me a free monkey bread for my birthday. One thing to note was that while I was talking with him, another customer came by to give him thanks and praise which really goes to show how great he is at his job. read more

I love just about everything I've ever bought from GHB. Their bread is amazing as are their chocolate chip cookies w/walnuts!!!! I recently tried their hot-cross buns. I'd never had them before & saw them on the webpage while placing an order. Since placing my order I researched & discover they're symbolic of Easter and the cross. Knowing this I was disappointed to receive my order & discover my Hot "cross" buns were actually Hot "line down the middle" buns. Whether you're religious or not I would've appreciated receiving something similar to the named item ordering . I've been a fan of Great Harvest (and this Rockville location specifically) for a year now, and would recommend checking it out if you're willing to splurge for some good bread. My favorite is one of their fall specialties, the Pumpkin Yumpkin - a fluffy-textured bread with pumpkin with chocolate chips. I'm not super into pumpkin but this one is soo good. The cinnamon breads (Cinnamon Blast, specifically) and scones are also great. I actually live much closer to the Columbia location, but this one definitely has a lot more options and specialty breads. My only problem is with the prices- I was a little hesitant to pay $10 for the pumpkin bread last year, and when I went back yesterday, the price raised to $12.95. Personally, I just can't justify paying $13 for a medium-sized loaf despite how much I love it - so it looks like this will be a once-in-a-while splurge for me. read more

Scrumptious fresh bread! The Great Harvest locations in MD and VA have their own special menu and unique selection of loaves. Glad I made the trek from McLean to Rockville to try Rockville's specialty loaves - Chocolate Babka, Cinnamon Blast, and Pumpkin Yumkin. Totally worth it! Cinnamon Blast (5/5) - Brioche bread with a brown sugar cinnamon swirl. While the bread was a bit dense, with a touch of melted butter, it was heavenly. The loaf is quite large and almost a foot. It didn't last too long in our house before my hubby and I devoured it! Pumpkin Yumpkin (4/5) - While the loaf is oozing with chocolate chips in every bite, it overpowers the subtle pumpkin flavor. I LOVE chocolate chips, but the dense loaf didn't pair well with pumpkin and didn't have the sweet savory flavor I was hoping for. Banana pairs the best with chocolate chips. A simple Pumpkin spice loaf would be nice (which I believe the bakery offers). Alas, I finished the loaf and delightfully crossed it off my foodie bucket list, fun to try! Chocolate Babka (3/5) - Hubby's favorite! Similar to the Cinnamon Blast, dense brioche bread with swirls of rich chocolate layers. The ratio between bread and chocolate was a bit low, wish there was more chocolate! The bread keeps well for around 5 days with twist tie diligence! I enjoyed our bread feast with decadent loaves. The Rockville bakery is quite crowded with heavy foot traffic, everyone was Covid compliant - wearing a mask and stood 6 feet apart. The cozy Vienna location has a lot less foot traffic with divine Focaccia that's super fluffy, try it! Definitely worth a trip from Rockville. New Management shows that they do not care about the customers, they never offer enough pastries on the table nor behind the counter. I have been coming to GHB for years and during Mardi Gras the previous owners used to offer King Cakes Plentiful!!! On a Saturday morning during Mardi Gras the place would offer both King Cakes and Muffins. This past Saturday was the first time I walked out empty handed because I was told to place an order and only certain things could be available after 2p and when I asked why didn't they put that on the flyer the woman stated that they aren't busy during Mardi Gras, which is a Lie!!! In the past as an Educator I could walk in and grab muffins and King Cakes for my students and this year I could only offer a Giant Food King Cake that was dry to my students. The inside does not feel welcoming anymore nor did the employees greet the customers, maybe they are closing but I am hurt how my last experience with GHB ended. read more

Terrible service from management. Two weeks ahead of time, I ordered two loaves of a special bread they make and ordered online. $22 for the two loaves!!! Their latest pickup time they offered for the day is 2:15, yet they are open until 5pm. I wanted to see if I can come in later as the 2:15 did not work with my workday and ask if they could hold my order until 4pm when I could come pick it up. I called the store several times for three days in a row--no answer, sent an email that is listed on their site, and sent a message through their "contact us" option on their site. I did not receive any replies back in a week's time. I then wanted to cancel my order, but there seems to be no option to do so and they already charged my credit card. So not cool. I don't care how good your bakery is, I will never come back because of this frustration and terrible service. What a poorly operated, non-community oriented business. read more

First, let's get this out of the way. Great Harvest is not your local hole in the wall Bakery. It's a franchised business, and there's like I believe close to a hundred locations of Great harvest around the country. That being said, their bread is freakin' delicious. I got the white bread and the challah when I was there last. They'll serve you sample of bread with butter to taste which is fantastic. Their regular white bread is so soft and fluffy and delicious. A wonderful crumb. If you're looking for a super crusty roll, this might not be the place for you. If you're someone who cares about the health of your soft and hard palate, this is the place for you. The woman who was working there when I went was very kind. I kinda changed my mind on how many loafs I was buying last minute, and she didn't blink an eye. I then took this bread to an event, where I subsequently got like 10-15 people asking me where I got this bread :) Yeah, it is that good. I'd go much more often if one was close to me. read more

I should stay away from carbs, but their Margherita Pizza Bread keeps calling me back to Great Harvest Bread. It's their new bread, which has tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil, like a real margherita pizza! Since it has tomatoes, the bread gets a little moist in the bag so best to keep it in the fridge. It taste even better when you toast a little to melt the cheese. I also still enjoy their Popeyes bread, which has spinach and provolone. They're chocolate chip cookies are amazing too! They offer free samples, if you don't know what you want, get a slice of them all. Their bread is supposedly baked fresh daily so check their website to see what they have each day. If I could write in establishment based on the smell I would rate this place at 10... Even though Yelp only goes up to five stars I feel confident in rating the smell a solid 10. Even if you come in thinking you are just going to look, the smell will cause you to buy everything in sight. The great harvest bread store is not very big but it is full of amazing bread. I stopped in with a coworker around 12 o'clock. I interacted with two different employees and both were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the products. I was able to try about three or four different types of bread. I enjoyed each sample and was surprised at the size. By the time I left the store I was no longer thinking about lunch. I also realized that the store sells more than just bread! There were muffins, bread pudding, buns, rolls, really anything you would find in a bakery. I would've rated this place five stars but it is on the expensive side. I was looking at buying a loaf of bread and it was eight dollars. A similar product could be bought down the street for half the price. However; there is something to be said about the quality of the bread sold here. The fact that the bread is made on site daily is worth the difference in price. I ended up buying a lemon blueberry muffin and was very satisfied. I love walking in here. The smell of fresh bread, generous sized samples, and friendly staff. My favorite is the Xtreme Cinnamon Swirl. Although I can only have it once in awhile, this 100% whole wheat loaf is so delicious. It has just the right amount of cinnamon and brown sugar where it's not overly sweet. Makes a great treat! I also enjoy their Honey Whole Wheat and Challah breads. I have yet to try their other items (cookies, muffins, scones, etc.), but I hear their cookies are good. Great breads and good cookies. They use simple ingredients and display the ingredients on the label for most if not all of their items. Easy curbside pickup during covid. Park in a designated spot and then call and they will bring it to you. You can also place the order over the phone in advance if you have a coupon to use and do not want to go into the store. When we went on a Friday morning before the high holidays, there was a long line outside waiting to go in. I suggest ordering in advance if you can. The challah is very good and the cookies are good. The best cookie was he oatmeal raisin if you like soft and chewy. The pumpkin chocolate chip was just ok - a bit dry. The scone was also a bit dry. The best item was the cinnamon blast bread! (If you like cinnamon) Try making French toast with this. You will never want to use a regular bread for French toast again. Give great harvest a try. I like the breads at Great Harvest, but I continually go back for the pastries! I love the giant cookies! At over $2 a cookie, it seems a little steep, but they are big! My favorite is the Chocolate Chip with Walnuts. They also sell cookies in packages of 6 for about $11. My ultimate favorite item is the Chocolate Brownie Muffin/Teacake/Bread, which is Vegan! I can't say enough great things about Great Harvest Bread. Unfortunately, the parking situation can be a nightmare, but I wouldn't penalize a business (especially this one) by removing a star just because the parking lot gives me a migraine sometimes, because that's not their fault. Their bread is always fresh, consistent, delicious, and the staff are always friendly. I love that they have samples to try before you purchase. I wish I could say I go there often because I love giving them my business, but I am so weak that I have to resist and stay away as much as I can so I don't walk out with a handful of pastries or bread.
