    Unicorn Cookies

Sunflower Bakery work with individuals with learning disabilities and helps them get accredited in pastry arts, and find careers. Their mission is so needed in this world, and as a bonus, they make amazing desserts! They have a vegan tab on their website so it is very clear what desserts have no dairy and eggs. My two favorite treats are their unicorn cookies and apricot crumb bars. Both do not last more than a few days at my home. Thanks for all you do Sunflower Bakery and keep it up!

While I don't celebrate Purim, when these delicious treats are generally devoured, I do support this bakery that employs young adults with learning differences. Giving these individuals the training they need for a career in food services is paramount. I ordered a dozen chocolate filled hamantaschen. During this particular holiday season you can pick them up from the bakery, or pick them up from various drop off locations. I was sold when I discovered one of the drop offs was a mile from my home. These cookies are delicious. They're very buttery, and they were larger than I expected. I paid $14 for a dozen. They are cheaper, albeit smaller than Parkway Deli's version, but quite a good deal. They are kosher, and they do make a GF version that my neighbor buys for her daughter. When spring eventually springs, I plan to make a visit to their storefront location. It's a win-win indulgence in my book.

I guess I'm in the minority here because I didn't enjoy the baked goods at Sunflower Bakery at all. The cupcakes had too much frosting for my liking and I found it to be rather waxy. Out of the cupcakes I tried, the vanilla with chocolate frosting was the best, but still jusy okay. The cookies were surprisingly not a hit at all in my household. They were super tiny and on the dry side. I do like the story behind Sunflower Bakery and applaud them for it. I'm hoping it was an off day in the shop, so will try them again in the future.

This is over of those hidden casual bakeries that you'll never regret visiting. Sunflower doesn't have a huge selection of options but everything that they have is amazing. Their sugar cookies and oatmeal cookies are some of the best I've ever had. BONUS: they're kosher for catering!

Ask the Community - Sunflower Bakery

The website says they are a dairy and nut free facility , but wanted to make sure since I did see some nut based sweets and they don't specify "dairy free" on each cake but specify if it's nut or gluten free. Is it dairy free?

They have Nut Free labels on their products - easy to figure out 😀

Honestly, if there's a holiday surcharge, I would truly understand! But it should be clearly stated before payment -- not after. Very disappointing experience. I only bought it because my mom loves mango cake, but I definitely won't be coming back again I am pretty certain that you're not allowed to raise the price on an item already paid for. The tofu steam bun -- easily my favorite lunch item in the area -- really didn't work. The interior of the restaurant seemed like a good meeting/date spot. Although they had Wifi, I wouldn't call this a great place to come and study or get work done, although I saw people doing that. I've had the Vietnamese coffee twice, the first time was great, the second time was just okay. Food items are very unique, so much so I didn't like some of them but I still enjoyed the experience. Try something that sounds weird, it's half the fun of coming in here. CONS * Allergies - it wasn't clear what all everything was made with so if you're trying to avoid gluten or peanuts or eggs, I didn't see much on ingredients. I know for some people that's a red flag. * The tea. We just thought it was above average but not amazing. I mean its right in the name, come on. * Collecting items - you gotta look for the little trays and the salad tongs. That's what you use to grab stuff out of the cases. I know for most people that was super obvious but it wasn't for me. * Summertime note: during the hotter months I've noticed they seem to have some issues with keeping things cool.

There's seating inside, but the seating area is pretty small and some people were at tables looking like they weren't going anywhere anytime soon. One disappointment was when the counter person asked me if I wanted room for cream in my coffee, I said yes and asked if they had nondairy products. She said they had almond and soy. I asked for soy and she returned with my drink. When I went to pay, I saw they charged 79 cents for almond, soy and oatmilk. Ok. Here's the thing. I assume it's on the board and I should have looked, but she also could have mentioned it. Also, charging for these items when they put a little in your coffee leaves me feeling like I'm being abused for not being a dairy person. I get it - it's a pastry shop and the items are buttery and rich from cream. But please - 79 cents for a little soy milk? (I know this isn't uncommon for coffee shops, but it doesn't make it right.). And the coffee ($4.25) was decent - not great. I expected better (richer, more flavorful) coffee from a nice pastry shop like this. Anyway, it's a nice neighborhood place and there's a lot of treats there.
