I found Great Movers via UNPAKT (a concierge for moving - liked their white glove help as well)... with a name like GREAT movers I expected them to live up to the name - they did. I've never even seen one of their trucks in my area - but knew based on prior Yelp reviews I'd be okay. They were friendly, efficient, ON TIME, and took great care of each and every item. I didn't have enough wardrobe boxes, but no matter they quickly put one together - problem solved. My move was short - from Long Island City to Williamsburg. 1 BR the whole process took about 3 hours. I have only ever used man w/a van operations so, hiring a professional moving company was a new and potentially very stressful experience. I need not have worried. NYC Great Movers lives up to it's name. At the very beginng, they asked very thorough and detailed questions about the amount of boxes I had and would be needing . And about the place I would be leaving from ie, the amount stairs or whether or not there would be and elevator etc. Danny the lead mover was awesome. He listened to me very carefully and was courteous and kind. His team of two men were quick and efficient. I was moving out of a studio in LES that I've lived in for 16 years! And I filled every square inch of it with clothes, books and art. So, trust me when I say that there quite a lot of boxes. The total move, start to finish was with three hours. I was thoroughly impressed with the job these guys did. My roommate and I moved from Stuy Town (1st floor) to UES (5th floor walkup) and Great Movers never skipped a beat. Whereas I'd be banging the corners of end tables into door frames, they never scraped a single item or showed a lack of care for our furniture. They wrapped my mattress ($10 extra) to my satisfaction and were careful with every box labeled fragile. None of my personal items broke during the move. They also took the time to take apart AND reassemble my bed frame at the new place. Never batted an eye or hesitated to answer my questions. After all was said and done they clearly explained the rate and final bill. I haven't used a lot of movers in the past, but their quote was WELL within expectations (based on research) and budget. When there was confusion over a line item, they were knowledgeable enough to explain these things. My roommate and I needed movers ASAP. We needed to be out of our apartment in 5 days, and, after calling every mover in the book, NY Great Movers was the only one with availability on such short notice. We confirmed 3 movers & a truck for Saturday at 4pm. The day of the move, NYGM calls and asks if we wanted to start moving at 2pm, as their movers finished their last job earlier. We declined, as we were at Home Depot and still had a few loose ends to tie up beforehand. But we said we wanted to keep our 4pm, and thanks for offering. NYGM also said it would be wise to have 4 guys instead of 3, as both buildings were walk-ups and could be a lot for 3 movers to manage. This upped our quote, naturally, but we were on board with anything that would help our move go quickly. On our way home from Home Depot, we had to stop to take out extra cash for our new quote, plus the fourth mover's tip. Not a big deal, but perhaps this would have been helpful to know the day before. When 4pm rolls around and the movers hadn't arrived, we didn't stress too much. It's NYC and parking can be hard to find. But by 4:30, I decided to call NYGM to see what was up. "Your appointment is now at 5. They are at another client. Please be patient." One hour past our move time is not a HUGE deal, but we expected our moving time to be honored. And we would expect NYGM to at least NOTIFY us that our appointment had changed. But we were the ones to call and inquire--not the other way around. We felt very much in the dark at that point. When 5:30 comes and still no movers, I contact NYGM again. Our frustration was met with "I told you let's start early." I find this kind of an excuse for lateness unacceptable. Yes, NYGM offered to start at 2, but that was at 1:30pm on the day of our move when we had already scheduled a 4pm appointment. We didn't think that by passing up the earlier time slot, that we would then lose our 4pm (and let me be clear, NYGM never said that's what would happen. They said we would see them at 4pm). At five minutes to 7pm, the movers arrive--and not the 4 that we were told, but 7 movers. I understand that this was to, no doubt, make up for lost time, and to make sure we were out of there fast, but again, we would have appreciated an update on how many movers we were getting so that we could budget for tips for seven guys. We were very impressed with the movers, however (all three stars go to them). They were great & finished in under 2hrs (and even put up with some cranky neighborhood watch-type folks who complained about our furniture being left on the curb--and even agreed to move the furniture to a more appropriate spot. Kudos to them!!). Their system of dividing and conquering left my roomate and me speechless! We watched our once-full apartment be emptied in record time--which was very rewarding after having to wait three hours past our appointment time. These guys are the real deal. I submitted a quote 3 days ahead of our move, and received a response from Saad within hours. They provided a quote and honored it even though we had a few extra items and boxes. They also helped wrap the last of our glassware with packaging paper they brought. TV, mattress and dressers were well wrapped and protected before moving. Communication was continual and responsive. Movers arrived early / on time, and provided updates both from and to the destination. Moved quickly, were efficient, and nothing was lost or broken. Great experience! Called Great Movers on Monday for that Saturday (I'm a procrastinator) and was thrilled that they had an open afternoon time. I moved from LES 5th floor walkup to midtown east. Kevin was extremely helpful throughout the process. The guys were actually available earlier than my set time. They were friendly, efficient, clean, and took great care of my stuff! I was sat down at the beginning of my move where a guy clearly explained to me the process and rate, and had me sign my agreement. After the move was over, we sat down again for the payment and I signed to confirm the move was complete. Overall rate for 3 hour move with 1 additional location and mattress was $467. I feel it was pretty reasonable given the quality of the move and the amount of stuff I had (bed, bed frame, 3 dressers, wardrobe, lamp, 2 TVs, AC unit, 15-20 boxes). I had an interesting situation as I needed to first drop off a dresser at 1 location before going to my final location to move the rest of my stuff. I got quotes from 4 moving companies in NYC for what I consider a fairly easy move (1 bedroom- nothing over-sized, nothing outrageous; everything was already packed, elevators on both sides...). One company that is highly regarded on Yelp quoted me over 2X the cost of the other 3! Anyway, New York Great Movers (aka NYC Best Movers on Craigslist) had a competitive quote, were very responsive, had insurance, and could move me when I needed them to, so I went for it. They confirmed the appointment the day before and showed up on time. The 3 movers were all very nice, quick and careful with my belongings and it was a seamless move. I booked them for a move on the morning of Aug 31, noting that I wanted to move in the morning and get done to attend a grad school class at noon. Adding to the reviews here on the site, I want to say that working with Great Movers was an extremely positive experience. My 1-br move from the FiDi to Brooklyn was a smooth one, with no hitches other than a bottleneck in our building because of an out-of-service elevator that was beyond the movers' control. Overall it took 5 hours. I was quoted a competitive rate of $125/hr for a team of four men, and on the day of the move a 5th man was also present. The movers were small guys and not physically imposing, so at first I wondered how they would handle some of my heaviest book boxes, but they had a perfect system of teamwork and their own dollies and moving carts that made the process fly by. They are clearly used to working together and do everything they can to finish the process quickly. Finally, though it's a little costly to get a CoI/liability insurance statement if you have a management company that requires it ($50 for the first, $30 for subsequent), some of that cost can be defrayed by the generous Yelp offer that gets you $35 of credit for just $15. Be aware that you will also pay 8.8% sales tax if you pay by credit card. All in all, I was very satisfied with Great Movers and would not hesitate to use them again! read more

My quote was for full service,person who came to pickup was rude at me to pay double the amount of the quote or pay 1K$ as cancellation, out of which he demanded me 600$ as tip to him. As i was left with no option i paid more than double the amount of quote given.a 2. Manager Greg promised it will be delivered in max 2-3day's and they took 2weeks to deliver after lot of followup, customer care was no clue on exact status of delivery date, after 2 weeks they scheduled delivery 2-8pm and nothing was delivered at 8pm. 3. They delivered my goods midnight 12am,i am surprised how this guys operate, delivering midnight 12am shocking to me also most of my furniture in bad shape. All they say is not to believe what we say ,check what's your signed quote with many conditions, as the guy picked-up, manager(Greg) after pickup never responded, customer service, delivered people are totally disconnected each other and operates clue-less on your deliverables. read more

Great Movers was extremely responsive prior to the move with any questions. They provided a lot of resource and included a mattress cover and three wardrobe boxes with the price that was very helpful in an already stressful move. They were extremely efficient and quick. I was shocked at how quickly my living room was packed up (in roughly 30 mins for a decent amount of furniture). They sent me three men when I was quoted for two and did not charge for the extra body so I was very appreciative. They took extra care with fragile items and not a single possession was damaged. The only thing that I noticed was a little bit of a chip in one of my walls after moving my bed frame. Not sure if my building will charge me for that eventually. They made a stressful move seamless and easy. They got to my apt in White Plains by 9:05 and they were done moving me into my apt in CT by 12:45. Very professional. A little on the pricy side as I ended up paying more than I was quoted but they threw in the extra guy for free so I didn't complain. The move went well, and the guys were good, except for two things: 1. They charged $50 extra to share a certificate of insurance with my building 2. They lost an expensive piece of framed artwork in the move, and reimbursed me for a fraction its cost. I recently moved from Washington Heights down to Midtown East and called these guys last minute for the job. When I had to change my scheduled time day of the move, they were more than willing to accomodate and work around my schedule. I had 3 guys and have never seen anyone move SO fast and efficient. For all fragile items, they took great care in securing it with their blankets, tape, etc. to prevent anything from being damaged. They did everything so professionally and I'm happy to say as I was unpacking, everything was as in good condition as before. To talk about how fast they were - I lived on the 4th floor of a one bedroom walk up and they managed to move everything into the truck and secure my stuff in a matter of 1.5 hours. In my new apt, I was moving to the 3rd floor and they moved everything in an HOUR. To put it in perspective, the apt I moved into.. the prior tenants had started to begin moving their things when I arrived. They had less furniture / boxes than I did, with 3 movers, and it took over 2 hours. This company has the best rates per hour. They don't charge for stairs, blankets, tapes, etc. or gas. There is a minimum of 2 hours plus 30 mins travel time but that's standard anywhere. Highly recommend using this company to assist with your future moves!! If you want fast, efficient people and don't want your things to get damaged.. call these guys up! read more

We had a fantastic experience with Great Movers. Let me first say that we were a family of 3 moving about 250 miles. Excellent communication from the outset--quick quote and they stayed true to it. They do not do a flat rate which proved to be CONSIDERABLY less expensive than the quotes from other companies. So the price was right. But more importantly, the move was a breeze. I will say that we did 95% of our packing ourselves and had very little furniture to move. But the furniture items we did have were treated with great care, and the items they boxed were very secure. The whole team of movers was friendly and helpful and Alex who led the team was excellent. They obviously had a plan and they moved quickly and efficiently on both ends of the move. Recently did a local move on the Upper East Side, less than a 1/2 mile; I did all the packing, so was very quick job. They charged about $300 total and took less than 3 hours total, with three movers, mostly because my new building has alot of stairs etc. They did a friggin' great job and would work with them again. I have moved a few times over the years but have never before used a moving company. This time around I decided, because of my age, use a mover. I have heard all sorts of stories about movers and most were not too encouraging. These folks were recommended by friends of mine who had used them a few months ago and had nothing but good to say of them .... and they easily lived up to the glowing recommendation they were given by my friends. I dealt with Dominic over the phone and by email to arrange the move. I described what I would be having moved and he gave me an estimate which turned out to be "on the mark." He advised me of the various options available to me and the charges associated with them, as well. He was conscious of my anxiety and did his best to assuage it. On moving day the moving men arrived within the time frame promised ... a three man crew ... they were polite, careful of my belongings, and professional. They all worked like the "energizer bunny" ... and delivered the furniture to the rooms for which it was earmarked. All went well. There were no "surprises."
