NYC Great Movers accommodated me just 2 weeks before our end of the month move out date-and while every other company was booked or quoting us $1300+ (for fixed end of the month pricing) NYC movers gave us a great quote for the actual (very few) items we needed put into storage. That said, of course we had more boxes than planned and I was freaking out that we wouldn't be able to fit everything into our storage unit. But Great Movers did it!! I was AMAZED and so grateful. They were also very helpful in splitting items between our storage unit and a uhaul I had rented to bring some of our furniture to my in-laws. For those interested here's a list of what they fit into our 5' x 15' storage unit: 1 7' tv stand 1 Full mattress + box spring 4 barstools 3 full length mirrors 4' x 4' bookcase 2 desks (1 L shaped 4' x 4', 1 1.5' x 1.5') 27 boxes (mostly Home Depot's "medium", few small, 4 large) 4 rolled up rugs 2 mini fridges 2 nightstands Then miscellaneous stuff from yours truly that took up approximately 2' x 2' (space which the guys had greatly left for me!) These guys are amazing at what they do, I am so impressed by how painless our moves have been with their help. I cannot say enough good things about this company. Starting with Saad that helped with our quote, he was super responsive whether through text, email, or phone call. He work with us to make sure we listed all our items and was so helpful. The team of guys that came to move us was Sam, Sasha, and Aziz(sp?). These guys were absolutely incredible. We went from a 5th floor walk up to another 5th floor walk up. That is not an easy move and they busted their asses to get our move done quickly. We ended up having more boxes than we anticipated, so it took longer than our initial quote, but that was completely on us and the guys were so accommodating and we thought their hourly rate was more than reasonable. I've hired NYC Great Movers for three moves and expect to be using them as long as they're under present management. They show up on time, ask you how you want everything done, and do the job with great efficiency. Never had anything broken that wasn't particle-board furniture not made to withstand moving anyway. Konstantin and Hanson are both great foremen who have "seen it all". They'll do their best to accommodate your wishes within reason - what to move, what not to move, where to set everything up etc. I also appreciate the fact that the salesmen are very upfront about the fact that you don't get charged less than the estimate if the job is finished ahead of schedule, which it usually is because they're so fast. Their quote is based on your inventory and instructions (e.g. are you packing yourself or not) and their professional experience. I'm always happy to be able to finish the move early so I can get a head start on unpacking! There's no nickle-and-diming where they're counting out each piece of packing material they use. As long as your agreed-upon scope of work is roughly correct what you see is what you pay, minus the tip which they also tell you about in advance, and their pricing is generally quite reasonable. read more

Got a call from Saad with NYC Great Movers a day after I posted a negative review about how the movers persuaded me to tip more, lost my stepladder and I never heard back after repeated attempts trying to reach the company. Saad helped sort out the issue with me, was very apologetic, and super understanding. There seems to have been some internal miscommunication that led him to think that my issue had been resolved when it actually hadn't. He was about to arrange for the movers to return my stepladder (apparently it had been in the moving truck this whole time) but I had already bought a new one assuming I was never getting it back (it had been over 10 days since my move at that point). He refunded me back the tip + cost of the stepladder immediately even though nothing in the fine print of the contract compels them to do that. Looks like I was just unlucky with a fairly new moving crew and the original rep I corresponding with was on vacation. Saad really went the extra mile to make sure that my concerns were met and fixed quickly once he realized. If you have any problems at all with your move, talk to him! Still, to avoid something like this, make sure you check that everything is accounted for and in good shape before paying the movers. We recently used Great Movers for our NY to NJ move and they were really spectacular. Their attention to detail was impressive and made sure all items were secured and protected. Bob and his team did a great job of moving us out of our 1 bedroom and into their storage facilities. Great pricing and friendly, thorough service. They wrapped all of our furniture and were very efficient with time. We have an extra long sofa that got into the apartment somehow but proved to be a challenge to get it out. They "pivoted" (get the reference?) and got the sofa out of the window and into their truck. I live on the first floor, so it seems like an easy task, but the 8 ft drop from the window to the sidewalk made the feat an impressive one! Full disclosure, since all of our stuff is in storage, I cannot speak to the state of our items when they get delivered in a month or so to our new home, but I'll be sure to update here in October. read more

Unfortunately I cannot recommend. All seemed well in the beginning - Team was quick to respond and very helpful. The price was reasonable. I used them to pack up my apartment, store my items for several months, and then deliver items to a new apartment. I had no issues and was generally happy with the service until I reached my new apartment. After they finished unloading all the boxes, I noticed a number of big ticket items were ruined - including my $2,000 mattress which now sags in the middle. A computer monitor and a side table were also ruined. A glass shelf had missing pieces. A number of smaller ticket items were ruined as well (kitchen towels, make up organizer, etc). I note that items filled with liquid were placed in boxes with no covering allowing the liquid to leak out. It will cost $1000s of dollars to replace the items so I am quite disappointed with the service and therefore would not recommend it. Additionally, the company (Moving Claims) they contract out to to handle claims is a joke. I filled in a claim, received a confirmation email saying they are in receipt of my claims package, and after waiting the appropriate amount of time for a response, I followed up only to be told that they never received a claim. Got moved into my place by NYC Great Movers. It was 435 for my move from Hell's Kitchen to Chelsea before tip. The movers were quick and professional. Nothing was damaged and they take care to wrap up the mattress or other items that could be damaged. They can disassemble the bed frame. They make you buy a box for your TV which is 10 or 15 dollars if you don't have the box for your TV. Overall good and painless experience. read more

I'll start with the positive: They arrived within the window they said they would, and they mostly did what they agreed to do. Now for the negatives: - Easily twice as expensive as hiring a high-end person on Task Rabbit. (Yes I know that the company has insurance whereas taskers do not. That's the reader's decision to make.) -Their office staff and paperwork was disorganized. -The movers didn't listen to me when I told them they'd have to dissemble a bookshelf. (I knew this because previous movers had tried to carry it up a flight of stairs without dissembling it. I have no idea why they didn't believe me, but they tried moving it without dissembling it only to have to disassemble it in the stairwell when they got to the tight spot. This I only care about because it wasted time.) -Most importantly, they destroyed a bunch of my drawings. These were flat in a set of flat drawers which are specially made for this purpose. The movers for some reason took them out and attempted to roll them (really, they crumpled them; see photo) and secured them with tape. Had they destroyed a purchased piece of furniture or equipment I'd be less angry, but original drawings are basically irreplaceable. 2 Stars instead of 1 because, again, they did technically do most of what they were supposed to do (other than ruining my drawings) and they generally didn't complain about issues with the building which I have experienced movers doing in the past. I know that's setting the bar pretty low but it's worth something. At any rate, I'll go with another company or just a highly rated person on Task Rabbit next time. read more

I have moved three times in the last eight years, and have used Great Movers twice (I'm still kicking myself for not using them all three times), and I highly recommend them. I needed to schedule a move (on short notice), and Saad was able to provide a reasonable quote (quickly), even though I wasn't certain of my move date. Once I had confirmed my move-in date with my landlord, I went back to Saad, who gave me my preferred time. The three movers showed (they are punctual) up at our apartment, and began to tackle the job before them. I was amazed at how quickly (and carefully) they secured and taped up our fragile items before moving our items out of the building. It was truly like watching a colony of ants, where everyone is moving with purpose. When they arrived at the new location, they repeated the process of moving our things to the desired locations within the apartment. The entire move took less than five hours (they were moving my things from a 3BR to a 2BR), for which me and my wife were grateful. I abhor moving, but working with Great Movers has made it much less painful, so I will definitely use them again. We used NYC Great Movers to move from our previous house into their storage. We then stored our belongings with them for 3 months, before they moved our stuff 700 miles to our new home. The crews on both ends were very good and efficient. They seemed to take care with our stuff. Some boxes got a little crushed, but I think that is to be expected. We actually haven't unpacked our framed art, so we're not sure everything made it safely, but it appears most everything made it without any major damage. There are some dings/scratches on some furniture. We have a digital piano that worked immediately upon inspection, but wasn't working the next day. Fortunately, that looks like it will be covered under warranty. But, the guys were polite, worked hard, were pretty careful with our belongings, and did a good job of wrapping furniture/items. I was a little hesitant because their price was lower than other quotes, but they had good reviews so I took a chance. It worked out well for us. Another thing I liked is that some of the big moving companies would have shipped our stuff on a large freight truck with other shipments. Because of this, they were only able to give me a several week window of when our stuff would arrive. NYC Great Movers moves everything on their trucks, and we were easily able to book a specific delivery date for when we needed our stuff. Just a few negatives. . . . I had a very large piece of artwork for which I couldn't find a box. I asked for the movers to bring an extra mattress box for this item, and I was told that they would. It turns out that they don't have mattress boxes at all (even for mattresses). So, they rolled my mattresses to pack them, which I didn't love, and they merely wrapped my large piece of art in moving blankets. These were minor, as the mattresses have seemed to finally flattened back out, and the art did make it safely. The second item I didn't love was the tipping. The contract states that tips are not included, and they recommend a 20% tip. But I was doing a interstate move that cost over $7000, so that would be $1400 in tips, which seemed to be high and really negated their lower quote. So, I inquired before I signed the contract and was told that they generally do shorter/less expensive moves, so a 20% tip doesn't seem as high. I was told that the movers get a good wage, and that tipping is not required, and that 20% would not be expected on a long-distance move like mine. The guys worked hard getting my stuff packed and on the truck, so I tipped them each $200 (x3 movers) on the move our of my house ($600 total). Then, they did have to drive several states away, stay overnight, unload my stuff, and then drive back. So, I matched the tip on the way into my new home (totaling $1200 in tips for the move). As I said, I specifically asked the sales rep about the tipping policy and standards, and was told that 20% was high for a move of this cost. But I still came very close to 20%. When I gave the final tip, the lead mover told me that I didn't hit the 20% mark, and he wanted me to give him an additional $200. Not only did I feel that was bold, but it was in direct opposition to what I had been told before the move. It appears that the sales rep will pretty much say what he needs to say to get you to sign. He promised me mattress boxes they don't have. He told me what I wanted to hear about tipping even though the guys doing the moving clearly disagreed. The sales rep just seems to say yes, so make sure whatever he says is in writing in the contract. There was another small issue with the number of boxes we had, even though the sales rep said I could have as many as I needed. Just get everything in writing!! read more

I moved out from Brooklyn to the Bronx just over a month ago. The process of getting a quote, and then scheduling the move was super simple and straightforward. Their prices were very reasonable and the majority of reviews were positive, so it gave me a lot of confidence in their business. I was honestly completely blown out of the water with how amazing they were. I was prepared for hiccups here and there, but there were none. They showed up on time. There was no shady business or unjustified fees. The movers wore masks and were very approachable. They even arrived at the move-in destination before me. To top it all off, my girlfriend was moving from a location twenty-five minutes away from our new apartment. She hired a different local moving company that started to show subtle signs of not being able to meet her time window. At the last minute, they called her and said they'd be late by unknown amount of time. So instead, she called NYC Great Movers to see if my movers could do a last minute job. Great Movers was able to accommodate and save the day (this was also at around 7 or 8pm so it was getting late). So really, this review is from the both of us. Myrecent review got take down from yelp. This is a scam company using unprofessional movers and charging for high fees hourly but not giving you sane service they charging you for. They broke and damaged my entrance doorbar and currently dussapeared with no response back from my follow up. My first review last month about it experience was purposely removed. After that, they stop responding again. They pretend to be responsible after several calls with but me ask me to first remove the reviews!!!! After I refuse to do so, somehow they made my first review unseen. So this is an trustworthy company. Not reliable when it comes to damages are done because they have unprofessional workers. The reason I hired them is because of their impeccable reviews and now I know some of them were purchased. For that I'm changing my review to 1 star. ------ Unfortunately my recent move was not great. The 3 guys were very sweet and nice to be around but I have no idea why it took them 12 hours to complete a ground floor (both apartments) 1-bedroom move within the same neighborhood. I've never I had a move go so slowly. They took things from different places and packed them in the same box and labeled them very generally so unpacking has been awful. Also, they had me wait outside for 4 hours to keep an eye on the truck which was very frustrating--they should have a guy who waits with the truck--that should not be my job.
