I've been going to this place for a few months, and have never had a bad experience, until my last visit 3 weeks ago. On my last visit, I came in to have my SNS nails removed, and to have regular polish put on. It was the worst experience I've ever had in a nail salon. I've never had someone drill my finger nails so hard! I left with cuts all around my nails, and my nails turned black and blue under the nail bed, from him drilling. Its been 3 weeks, since this service, and a few of my finger nails have fallen off, because they are dead, and the others have cracks and rips that are deep into the nail. I used to love coming to this place monthly for a pedicure, and gel manicure, but I don't think I can come back after this. read more

Hummm. I have a had a very different experience here than the other reviewers. I've been going to this nail salon for 9 months since the end of my pregnancy... the ladies have been great, the salon and tools seem clean, and they massage my legs extra... I really love this place. I've also sent some of my friends here and they enjoy the salon. I did once have them rush me when they were super busy. But even then my tech was still adequate. read more

pros: Nice pedicure massage chairs. The place/tools seemed clean, and they had a good polish selection. cons: My manicure was poorly done. She painted my nails first, and then tried to give me the hand/arm massage while they were still wet (either she forgot, or just always does it backwards). The paint job was bumpy/bubbly, and they seemed inconvenienced by my four friends and I who had made reservations for mani/pedis. Very disappointed in myself for coming here, everyone kept hyping me up to come try it and that what it get. Fist of all my guy didn't ask what kind of pedicure I wanted.. assumed I wanted basic with gel polish, 10 min in I asked for the menu and voiced I wanted the deluxe with Gel polish, completely didn't hear/understand. I've done pedi's enough to know the steps and when doing the gel some salons wait to do the massage and stone after polish. Well.... I waited till he was done and asked about the hot stones, mask, hot towels he said okay and brought warm lotion meaning he was done. This time I was upset and just knew I shouldnt of came yet none of his team tried helping him understand. I'm a Nurse and on my feet all day .. I wanted to be pampered. DO NOT DO IT LADIES! IT IS NOT WORTH IT! JUST NOT WORTH IT. This past weekend was my roommate's wedding. Almost all of our Bridal party arrived 48 hours ahead of time to help with all of the things that go into a wedding (you know what I mean, there's always more to do than you think). Anyway, we called two weeks before and made a reservation. They did keep the reservation for us, but that simply meant they sat us in a message chair and made us wait through everyone else who walked in right before we got there. We waited 30 minutes before someone started on one of us (we were on a strict schedule). It took over 2 1/2 hours to get through all of us because they kept working on other people instead of just knocking us all out at once. sheesh. THE MESSAGE CHAIR WAS THE ONLY GOOD PART. Ok, I feel a little guilty for saying that as they were VERY kind, but they were not good at mani/pedis. I don't care how kind they are, I won't go back for another awful mani.pedi. We recieved pricing over the phone and had told the Bridal party what to expect for all of the different options. They did not honor the pricing they gave us over the phone. And since we were on an incredibly strict schedule, this was the only hour and half we had blocked off for pampering, we didn't have time to argue or hagle. To top it off I could have done a better job on my nails at 3 in the morning after being awake for 48 hours and not eating (let's face it, being hangry is rough and I still could have pulled off a better mani/pedi through hangriness) AND using my left hand! Everyone's nails were mangled looking in some form or fashion by the time dinner rolled around during the wedding the next day. Someone even had a tip pop off. We weren't doing any hard work or anything crazy...the bachelorette party had already happened! I simply got my nails filed down and painted. Yet, it looked like Fido chainsawed them with his mouth and the polish start chipping 2 days later. Just not Cool. The lady didn't clip any dead skin or snag nails (the ones that go up the sides of your nails between the skin and nail, you know what I'm talking about) on the mani. The design on my pedi, again, I could have done better. Heck, the three year old boy I babysit could have done better! While writting this I do feel guilty because, as I stated earlier, they are very kind. But it took a long time to get in an out. They did our mani/pedis in the same chair, which is always rough on your arms and back, our nails looked icky. Several of us took our polish off the day after the wedding. It just wasn't worth it. read more

I got a gel manicure and spa pedicure here about a week ago. It was clean and all the nail technicians were friendly. They offered me water or a soft drink. They took their time doing my nails and they turned out great. My toe nail polish hasn't chipped and my gel hasn't peeled yet. They didn't do exactly what I wanted them to do with the design on my gel nails, but I'm still satisfied with it and love my nails. Also, the spa massage chair was pretty intense. I kept trying to play around with the settings to make it hurt so good and not just hurt but I couldn't figure it out. Regardless, it's my new go to nail place in Austin and I would totally recommend it! read more

Not sure why this place has so many bad reviews. I've been there twice and both times were stellar. (Decided to wait until after the second visit to see if the first was a fluke - nope, second was just as good). They take their time, are very detailed and I haven't experienced (or seen) any bad attitude or poor customer service. The best part for me is that I *never* (really, never) get a manicure because they don't last. I'm hard on my nails and usually the polish chips in a few days. I decided to splurge on my first visit and I'm glad I did. My manicures from here have lasted for DAYS - at least a week (that may not seem like much, but for me it's a miracle). I even asked what they do different (if it's a special top coat or what) and the girl said they use good polish and try to take their time. Works for me! I'll be back. You should give them a shot as well. (Oh, and why 4 and not 5 stars? They do the manicure and pedicures together in the pedicure chairs. I like when a salon does the pedicure and then moves you to the manicure station. It's just a personal preference.) read more

I wish I had something nice to say about this place. The technicians are very friendly and sweet. However, i've been really disappointed with the eyebrow wax service here. They do take the time and don't rush you, but i've tried getting my eyebrows done here a few times and i've always walked out disappointed. The most recent one was a total disaster and i'm left to try and grow back my eyebrows after the waxing job left it pencil thin. I've gotten my nails done here once and I was pleased with the job. I've been thinking about this for a while and feel the need to post here that I've never been satisfied at Great Nails, mainly for the included "massage" that is more or less beating up your arms, legs and hands. I believe I actually got a pulled finger tendon during a manicure I got 3 months ago! It is still sore and may require several months of regenerative therapy that I'm not excited about paying for. Their nail appts are rushed and faster is not always better. The polish is often sloppy and my cuticles end up ripped or torn. It may be cheap and easy to get in but I won't be going back due to getting injured from my male technician. read more

I have been going off and on to great nails for years. I originally had my nails done by Lee and she was awesome! However she moved away and then the service went downhill. More recently in the last 2 months, I have been getting my nails done with shellac. Alex does a great job, he pays attention to detail, and he always is friendly, courteous, and he speaks fluent English. Every time I get my nails done, I know he is going to do a great job! Awful Awful Awful. This place dirty and unsanitary. They had terrible customer service, I wanted a hot-oil manicure and they treated me like I was imposing on them. The girl who did my nails obviously couldn't care less, as another person said the tools were dirty and the water was not in a fresh bowl (or warm ew) When she finished prepping my nails I asked her when she going to do the hot oil and she looked at me and said "you wanted the Deluxe?" I said "Yes I asked for the hot oil..." She said "Sorry." quite flatly and asked me to wash my hands. Then when she actually painted my nails some of the nasty nail dust that was all over everything got into the wet polish and when I tried to point it out she just said her flat sorry again and kept working. When she finished my nails were bubbling and uneven. My mom was getting a manicure next to me and I wanted to chat with her, but the girl very rudely asked me to move to waiting area. Not even the drier... My polish chipped off in 2 days. Never ever go here. read more

There was something unsettling about this place to me. It was very crowded and you had to walk over people to get to the bathroom. The place was eerily quiet, you could just barely hear the music. I was rushed through there and my shellac manicure peeled after a less than a week. I've had some places put them on and they lasted almost 3 weeks. I am not good about writing reviews that are entertaining to read, so I will tell briefly my experience with this salon. I have been going to another Great Nails salon, which is pretty good, except the manicurist, who spoke little English, convinced me to get Pink & Whites! That was a disaster! Never again! So, I was in the vicinity of Brodie Lane, saw the sign and decided to give this one a try. It being a new salon, and maybe partners with the OTHER Great Nails Salon, I assumed they would be good. NOT! I seriously DOUBT the manicurist who did my nails, had her license. She could not speak a word of English, did not do anything I ask of her, was in a major hurry to get off work, the station was not equipped with products, she cut my finger, did not follow proper procedures, etc. However, they were pretty busy doing pedicures. I WOULD NOT recommend this salon at all for nails. Drive on past this one! read more

First, let me acknowledge that I am FUSSY about nail salons. I like quality at a reasonable price - call me crazy. And a semi-adequate magazine selection. SHORT VERSION: Very happy with this place. Visit 2x in a week and this will now be exclusively where I go. THE DETAILS: This is the first nail salon in Austin I really like. I went about 5 days ago for a pre-Christmas pedicure ($25?) and was thrilled. I returned today for a Shellac manicure ($25) and was pleased. The color selection is excellent. They carry OPI and China Glaze primarily. And they seem to have the current collection and popular fashion colors, including the new Muppets collection and many of the Designer Series. Yay! Pedicure chairs are comfy and they even have super cute kids chairs. At the end of my very pleasant pedicure, they offered a holiday design for an additional $5, which I opted to get - and LOVED. SO cute. Today's manicure wasn't quite as enchanting but I was pleased with the shape of my nails and the symmetry (which rarely occurs) and I loved the color. The tech wasn't my fave but she was efficient and polite. There were several gross women talking about tampons and their "tooties" but that certainly wasn't the tech's fault. (And to the lady who finally successfully used a tampon at age 37 - congratulations. And keep your god damn voice down.) read more
