I'm not a picky eater. I'll eat almost anything , that is, until I ate at the Great Wall. I went to the buffet and the best way to describe it is, thank God there was a fortune cookie and water, because they were the best things I had there. Additionally, I paid up front, picked my table, waitress brought utensils and fortune cookie, and also brought my water. I never saw her again. I've tried the buffet and don't recommend. The selection and quantity is impressive but the taste isn't. There appears to be very few eat-in patrons and the food gets stale. We tried takeout to make sure our food was fresh but it just wasn't good. The General Tso's chicken was tough and chewy. The Sweet & Sour Chicken was okay with its cake like batter. The fried rice was better than the Chicken Fried Rice. Ordered over phone and told it would be 20 minutes; actually took 30 minutes. This was the worst experience that my family and I have ever had at a restaurant like this ever. From the moment we walked in there any it was terrible. We were trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and went ahead and ordered drinks, but when we went out to look at the Buffay there was no way that we would eat that food. It was dried out, had been sitting there for quite a while I'm sure, and it looks disgusting. I went ahead and flagged the guy down to let him know that we would not be staying. He was mad and tried to charge me for a plate that I have started to make up there at the Buffay. It had rice on it. I pointed out the condition of his Buffay and the food in it, and it just escalated from there. He ended up charging us for the drinks that we did not drink and initiated an argument with my husband. This local find was delicious! Great price for a lot of food! Everything we ordered tasted great! We ordered to go and got egg rolls, cheese wontons, sweet/sour chicken, beef/broccoli and shrimp/vegetables all with a side of lo mein instead of rice. 10 bucks for a buffet, not bad. My wife had two small bowls of soup and the manager charged 3.75 for each bowl. When questioned, he went off on my wife saying she had 3 bowls. Strategically located on the ground floor of the CHI St. Vincent Medical Building, the Great Wall is spacious, with booths & tables, lots of aisle space. It has been here 20+ years. My 5 star is based solely on my NUMEROUS take out experiences. I have never eaten inside the restaurant or eaten the buffet. I have read these reviews and notice people seem to be particularly dissatisfied with 2 things: the buffet and the management/staff. I would like to say we have ordered a wide variety of foods offered on the menu. Every last item has been prepared and delivered fresh and as it should be. We have had various chop sueys, moo goo gai pan, beef and broccoli, hunan chicken, beef and broccoli, amongst others. It is always hot, well seasoned and fresh. I will add - the beef and broccoli- the beef is so tender and the pieces were large. The servings were very generous. There is a soup I always get on the "diet food" - Ma Po Tofu. That is my favorite thing on the menu. Very heart and tasty. I usually will order egg rolls - they come piping hot and crispy. The sushi is some of my favorite and I have gotten sushi from numerous places. Beats out Sam's club, Cosco, and definitely Whole Foods (my least favorite). It is clearly fresh made to order. The ONLY place that gives enough pickled ginger to go with the sushi and that is extremely fresh as well. Regarding the service: the people are Chinese. Their native language is a form of Chinese. They have taken it upon themselves to learn English. It may be as hard for them to understand us and interpret every thing we say as it is for us to understand. They also have a totally different culture. You know you are getting authentic food at their restaurant. My suggestion: order off the menu. Food is guaranteed to be fresh and good. Try to understand they are doing their best and you are getting the real deal. I was taken aback at first. A few compliments went a long way. I always get great and helpful service. read more

I got my food delivered. It arrived way faster than I expected. Nice and hot, everything was fresh and tasty. I had a shrimp and crab cooked perfect. I also had egg drop soup which was delicious, and they give you enough for two. Plus I had an egg roll that was nice and crispy. The manager found some dude who posted a bad review on yelp who had the same first name as me and thought it was me. Value wise- this was the restaurant highlight of the trip. Hidden in a basement of a office building is a large nice buffet based Chinese & American restaurant. Surprising variety of food with portions in the tray were small and replaced often. Shocking good was the hot and sour soup, fresh kiwi and desserts like mini-pies, layered cakes, apple turnover and hand-scouped (with your own hand on the scoop) ice cream. Peel & eat shrimp and the cooked Chinese and American food were good as in giving variety. The best thing about buffet sushi (cooked varieties- more for looks) is that I get wasabi to put on my Crab Rangoon. We are lucky to have a buffet conveniently located to the village. They do a great job of providing a small selection of many different items. The flavor of the food is very satisfying and easy on my stomach. I have ordered many of their dishes to go and quite often stayed to have the Buffet. I have eaten the buffet and ordered the egg foo young to go for breakfast the next morning! :-) Please consider the location is low traffic of this restaurant and if you prefer your food extremely hot, consider ordering off the menu instead of doing the buffet. Our experience was nothing less than disgusting & it started with being hung up on 3 times trying to get directions & the woman couldn't understand or speak English. That should've been our first clue that this place was going to be a huge disappointment. When we finally found it, no one was at the front counter to greet us or show us to our seat. A young male was seated at a table scrolling on his phone. We found our own table & waited for a server to come. The buffet was not appealing in any way & the soup tasted nasty. Unfortunately, the server turned out to be the one who couldn't speak English. She was most unpleasant & seemed to be upset about having to wait on us. The most gross thing was the ice cream bar. The cartons were crusted over with ice & the scoop was sitting in dirty water. I asked the young man at the table for a clean scoop & a little bit later, a kitchen worker brought out a new bowl of water. No manager on duty to even supervise the mess of a restaurant. This is by far the best Chinese Food buffet I have eaten at in a very long time. It is far better than any in Hot Springs, Benton, or Bryant. The food was very fresh, none of it was overcooked, and the restaurant was very clean. The staff here is very friendly. I especially enjoyed the egg custard, and sushi. The General Tso's chicken was good too, a very good balance between sweetness and spicy. I feel the smaller variety is what adds to the food being so good and fresh. At $7.72 for a meal with water to drink it's a great deal. If you like good Chinese buffet, this is a must stop. read more

I'll be honest, this score is relative to the area. It's not the best Chinese buffet, but it was, by far, the best choice around. The food seemed fresh and those that worked there were genuinely friendly. It was small for most Chinese buffets I have been to, but they did have good choices, with the classics like General Tao Chicken, Chicken and Broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, crab rangoons, hot and sour soup and egg drop soup, fried rice, and peel and eat shrimp. The food here was horrible. There was barely anything out, and the things that were out were old. The sushi rolls were old and shriveled up. Asked them nicely to make new but they ignored me. The gentleman that took care of us was nice but they both looked like they didn't care. The glasses that the drinks were served out of tasted like soap. The buffet is not great. The food must have been out for a really long time. It was either dry or greasy and nowhere in between. It made me sick. Will never get the buffet again. Their take out service food is better but still not great. The wonton soup was a weird color and the wontons had completely disintegrated. The general Tao chicken was greasy and not very spicy. The sushi was bland and a little soggy. If you are going to eat there DO NOT GET THE BUFFET. At least the take out is just mediocre not poisonous. This place has decent Chinese food, but only if you order off the menu instead of going to the buffet, which can be pretty paltry depending on what time you get there. It's a good choice for Chinese food if you don't want to drive into hot springs though and gives a little variety to the numerous Mexican and/or American restaurants around the HSV area. read more

Have been wanting some chinese food and when we saw this buffet, we figured we'd try it. The reviews looked pretty good and we figured that on a Friday night it would probably be busy enough to have fresh food on the buffet. We arrived and there was only one other table besides us, but a quick look at the bar and things looked pretty good. The lo-mein was good but the fried rice had been there so long it had hard crunchy bits throughout - inedible. General Tso's chicken is usually a safe bet but it tasted like candy - too sweet. The egg rolls and rangoons were pretty good but had been out awhile - would have been better fresh. I tried the thai chicken, tawain chicken (you might think those 2 would be the same, but not), teriaki chicken skewers and the hawaiian chicken - all mediocre. The green beans were good and the hot & sour soup was good. The fruit & dessert options are extensive but again, mediocre - the fruit was mostly canned, the cookies stale, eclair puffs had been out so long the cream was dried out. The 'apple pie' on the bar was tasty, especially with a little vanilla ice cream. And most folks favorite thing, the self serve scoop ice cream, was hit or miss - chocolate, vanilla and butter pecan were ok but the strawberry was an unnatural color and tasted awful - same with the mint chocolate chip. All in all we paid about $20 for 2 meals, but I could have whipped up a better fried rice at home and saved a bit of money. My advice - if you arrive and there are NO cars in the parking lot, go somewhere else. This could be a good buffet if there was more turnover of the food. (oh, i forgot one thing - the waiter said to just ask if you wanted something that was out on the buffet - my partner liked the fried shrimp, asked for more and they brought a whole plate of hot shrimp to the table just for her - thats a plus!) read more
