My go-to Chinese spot in Chesapeake. I always get either the orange chicken or sesame chicken with an order of crab Rangoons!

Is this the best Chinese in the city yes , the flavor is awesome and it is priced well . Staff friendly

Bland, disappointing and the textures were all wrong. I guess if you are in a pinch give them a try but I won't be returning to this one

Not a horrible place but I felt the food was a little bland. I got the lunch special general chicken, beef and broccoli, pork lo main, and egg drop soup. The food was hot and it did not take much time but the food was a little on the bland side. They are all takeout and are all business on the other side of the glass. The food is good, but the business is a ripoff. They over charge you if you don't look at your receipts. I'm not talking about a few bucks, more close to $10. Your receipt is not even itemize. There is NO reason this place should have less than 4 stars! Especially when all the other options for Chinese around here aren't even half as good. We have been ordering from here at least once/month or more (not bragging, it's just really good ) since we moved to great bridge in 2018. And I have to say, there are good reasons for this place being open for 10+ years. Our usual family order is beef & broccoli, shrimp egg foo yong, shrimp lo mein & fried rice, spring rolls, teriyaki chicken sticks and egg drop. Sometimes I will get general tso, sesame or orange chicken. The food is always hot, great flavor, fresh ingredients. Also, the service is always great! Employees are pleasant and helpful. My mother lives in Va Beach and is always complaining about how she cannot find Chinese takeout near her that tastes as good. So for the past 4 years I've endured her requests to "bring some of the good Chinese" when we visit. We order from here for holidays & birthdays quite often and our friends and family feel the same way. We joke about how Grassfield/GB is the last place you'd expect to find Chinese takeout so good. They are closed one day/week and of course I seem to always crave it that day. I made the mistake of ordering from another Chinese restaurant off Cedar Rd. since they were closed, and it WAS NOT good. Idk what kind of experience the bad reviewers had and I'm a firm believer in "to each his own", but when it comes to me and my family/friends they have made some loyal and happy customers. read more

Worst Chinese food I've ever had. And I've had a lot! Hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour. It was bland. Pork fried rice was bland. If after one bite I'm adding soy sauce, you've failed. Gen tso chicken I ordered extra spicy. Completely mild and too sweet. Tasted more like sweet and sour. The kids like it though. Mu shu pork. Guess what? Bland. No flavor. Only about a tablespoon of hoisin sauce provided for 8 pancakes. I haven't finished eating but I stopped to write a review first. That is how strongly I feel about the low quality of the food here. This has been one of my favorite places lately. I've picked up dinner once during the weekend for three weeks straight. You get a lot of food for the cost which is great for my family. The service is really quick, always 10-15 minutes. The only reason I can't give a 5 star review is the inconsistency in how the meals are prepared. The house special pancit is so yummy but once it was very flavorful and another time it wasn't. It's not bad by any means, I just wish it was always like the one time it had a ton of flavor. I'm certain this will continue to be one of my go to places for quick and easy dinner. read more

Been here only once. It is a regular run in the mill Chinese take out. The house special fried rice was good with adequate chicken and shrimps. The steamed dumplings though, were another story. They were horrible. First I was not sure what was in them, it was some ground substance. Second, the dough was so thick it almost obliterated the filling. Definitely the worst steamed dumplings I have ever had. Will I go back? Maybe. Will I ever buy steamed dumplings? No. Will I recommend? Depends on how hungry you are. read more

Small sweet and sour shrimp, lunch order Szechuan shrimp, and lunch order shrimp with garlic sauce. Food was piping hot and fresh, & tasted very good. Maybe a little bit too much rice. I'd say it was about 60% rice and 40% entree. Otherwise, I think it was decent value and would eat here again. Not sure if the place is under new owners as I didn't see the usual family that has been there many years. read more

This place has been opened for roughly 12 years now and I've been a regular since it's opened. The food is fantastic and definitely proves the stereotype that "all Chinese good tastes the same" wrong. If you've had Great Wall's food cooked by the owner and his wife, you'd be saying otherwise. I've talked to some who have driven all the way from NC just for their food, while I was waiting for mine. The owners are back breaking hard workers and do not skip corners when it comes to their food. They definitely put the time and effort in making sure their food is exceptional. Definitely in the Top 10 Chinese take out restaurants around and their prices are the cheapest in the area. The quality and price can't be beat! read more

Despite some real penny pinching (see my tip regarding the $1.10 charge for chopsticks). This place has some above average Chinese takeout fare. The Good The quality of the food is very good. I'd say in the upper echelon of Chinese takeout places I've been to (especially in Chesapeake). I got Singapore Mai Fun and Fried Dumplings, both of which were really good, especially compared to other similar restaurants in the general area. The Bad I'm sorry, but charging for chopsticks is ridiculous. This won't matter to most people who just get a fork, but as someone who likes use the sticks I'm more than a little annoyed by this. The woman at the counter was a bit surly, and I found customer service and communication here to be rather lacking. All in all Great Wall serves up some pretty high quality Chinese food, but they need to work on customer service a bit. read more

Stopped by today to pick up dinner for the family and I was not impressed. Most chinese places give off that questionable vibe as far as cleanliness goes but this place could use a good scrub. Ignoring that, I ordered general tsos chicken and burboun chicken. Both orders were so chewy that even my husband (the human garbage disposal) didn't like it. In fact, he said it was the worst chinese food he's ever had. Also felt like I should mention there was an extra charge for chopsticks. Ordered through DoorDash, no problem with delivery. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken and it was a container full of (over) fried batter specks. I ordered this for the kids and it was tough to share as pieces of chicken were far and few between. I ordered broccoli in garlic sauce which was very good and the roast pork mei fun (pancit). Kids were the majority of the order, so I'm not sure I'll order again. read more

Looking for a Chinese place that is not a buffet, family opted for Great Wall, based on the few Yelp reviews I read. This was not a disappointment!! Way too much food for the price. Bill came to $36 for 3 people with enough leftovers to make another meal for three, so actual price is about $18 for three. I base a good take out Chinese restaurant on the taste of their Egg Drop soup. The best I have had in years. the only item I did not like was the teriyaki egg rolls. Way too greasy and not much flavor. As for the Shrimp egg foo yung, pork fried rice, general tso chicken, beef lo mein, YUMMY!! It is best if you call ahead. Since this was our first time we ordered and waited. Took about 30 minutes to get our food. BUT it was prepared fresh and to order and worth the wait. read more

I've eaten here since this place was called "Mr. Lu's" a looooong time ago, but I love it! We always get the same things; General Tso's, beef and broccoli, chicken and broccoli, shrimp lo mein, shrimp egg rolls, egg drop soup, pancit. The food is always good and always takes about 10 minutes regardless of how busy it is. Usually if you spend a certain dollar amount (I want to say about $50) they give you a free 2 L orange soda out of the cooler. read more

Hard to call this one and provide a good review. We enjoyed the food, the General Tso's chicken was a little tough but the rest of the food we ordered was very good. I love local, small places that you see the owners working in. I prefer these often to the other, larger, chain establishments. I just moved into my new house and looking for our "chinese place" :) among other places. I might give this place one more try, maybe, but my reservation comes from the attitude received not the food. The lady working, I am assuming the owner (as I have read it is the owners normally working) as the other lady was not oriental, was giving a lot of attitude. My wife made the statement she is the Chinese food version of the "Soup Nazi"... lol. Now, this was towards other patrons and I personally didn't really have an issue as we ordered over the phone and picked up our order and payed. But, while waiting to pick up she was giving everyone in front of us a hard time. One lady payed for her food and when she got change it was short by $5 and when she said something the lady said she hid a dollar. Yet, she counted her money right there on the counter and never moved. She had the change in one hand and the bills in the other and showed her both hands, nothing else was on the counter. Well, I might go back one more time as everyone has a bad day but I have read a couple reviews saying this is the norm for Great Wall. If so, I am sorry to say we will not be coming back. ******Very important****** They do not deliver!!! I know there are websites showing that they do but they do not. Food has no flavor and they have rude staff. I asked for vegetable fried rice instead of pork fried rice in a combo platter. After a 5 min conversation in which the lady made it seem like no one ever asks to substitute something, she agreed to do it. Got all the way home and sat down to eat...NO rice. I called back and was told I didn't ask for rice so they gave me extra veggies in my order. I couldn't believe my ears. No apology just blaming me for their mistake. They finally offered to make me a new rice right away if I wanted to come pick it up. I agreed expecting to get there get it and leave. Save your money! This food was expensive, greasy and tasted like it was made last week. There were things that looked like canned apricots floating in the garlic shrimp and scallop dish...which was loaded with old broccoli. These same features showed up in the hot and sour soup.
