I met some friends at DD Peckers for a fun night of storytelling, laughter, drinks, and wings. It…read morewas a seven-stars-out-of-five experience. Out of the four of us, I was the only one who hadn't been here before. It's a long-standing, no-frills wing shack/sports-bar hybrid in south Charlotte that's built a loyal following around one thing: serious wings. There are other things on the menu--but unless you want an appetizer or something alongside your wings, ignore them--the wings are the main event. Their website claims 25 flavors, and if you order more than one set of five, you can sample more than one. I went with ten wings: mild Buffalo and lemon pepper. Everyone recommended the lemon pepper wings. These are not a dry rub; they're a wet, glossy toss--and they are OUTSTANDING. I'm hooked. The Buffalo wings were on par with the best versions of the classic style. They provide celery sticks with blue cheese or ranch dressing--I chose blue cheese--and it was a great accompaniment. We also had their Spicy Onion Rings as an appetizer before we ordered the wings. The onion itself brings natural sweetness and mild sharpness (especially when hot), while the batter/coating is where the personality lives: savory, slightly salty, and well-seasoned. DD Peckers' spicy onion rings are essentially a classic crispy onion ring elevated with a peppery seasoning--where the heat enhances the onion's natural sweetness rather than overpowering it. They have a great selection of craft beers and ciders and offer a full bar. Most of us had Olde Mecklenburg Brewery Copper, a local Charlotte beer. I had two bottles of Bold Rock Hard Apple Cider, which paired well with both the onion rings and the wings, along with a glass of Olde Mecklenburg Copper in between. Our waitress was attentive, fun, and efficient. She kept everything moving seamlessly, and all of our needs were met exceptionally. We all tipped her well. The food and drink here are quite a bargain--especially considering how iconic this restaurant is and how delicious their wings are. A great night with friends, good drinks, and incredible wings--what could be better?

We ordered the chicken tenders and fries and though nothing about the meal was bad, but nothing really stood out either. The tenders were decent and the fries were fine, just fairly average across the board. It was one of those meals where everything was perfectly edible, but nothing memorable enough to make you crave coming back. With so many solid chicken options around Charlotte, I'd probably lean toward places like Poppycox or even Chick-fil-A next time if we're in the mood for tenders and fries. DD Peckers has a good reputation for wings and a big variety of sauces, so that may be where the real draw is. For us though, the tenders and fries didn't quite do enough to earn a repeat visit.

The service is consistently good, and the food comes out quick. I also love that you can order a half portion of fries instead of a full order--small detail, but it makes a difference. Their menu has a little bit of everything, but the burgers are definitely the star. They also run daily specials (I tried the cordon bleu sandwich on a special day, and it was really good). They have outdoor seating, which is a nice bonus, especially on a good weather day. Overall, it's a solid 10/10. If you're looking for a great burger--or just good food, period--Rusty's is absolutely worth checking out.

Experience: This is a no frills, step back in time deli that has a strong 80's vibe. I don't know that it has been updated since the 80's, it feels old. The sandwiches are classic, fresh, and good. It gets busy during lunch, I think they've retained all the customers since the 80's. I love their tuna steak sandwich because it's fresh and not too salty. It is best with a sauce added, since it's a bit dry without one. The bun tastes healthy in the best way. The burger is also classic and hearty. I'd highly recommend Rusty's if you're in the area and looking for a solid sandwich for lunch.

The value is hard to beat, especially considering how large the pizza slices are. The pizza was flavorful and satisfying. It was a little greasier than usual today, but still very good. The fries were hot and fresh, making for a quick and filling lunch. One thing I appreciate about Tony's is the consistency. Their pizza is always good, and I've also enjoyed several other menu items over the years. Their salads are fresh, the mozzarella sticks are delicious, and the chicken wings are definitely worth trying. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, with TVs throughout the restaurant. During my visit, they had a soccer match on, which added to the relaxed vibe. I arrived around 1:00 PM after the lunch rush, so it wasn't crowded at all. They also offer outdoor seating, which is a nice option when the weather is nice. If you're in the Ballantyne area and looking for a fast, affordable, and reliable lunch spot, Tony's Pizza is a great choice. Good food, reasonable prices, and a welcoming atmosphere make this a place I'll continue coming back to. Recommended: Pizza lunch special, mozzarella sticks, chicken wings, and salads.

The pizza was done exactly on time. The moment I walked in, I watched an employee place the food on the counter. Great timing. The only interaction was the cashier asking if she could help me. I was out of there in seconds, so I can't properly comment on customer service. The pizza itself was very good. Comparable to spots around town. Price point was about equal to the other places as well. Would I recommend? Yes. Would I say it's worth a long drive to go get? Not really. She is AMAZING and super sweet. I came in today and was "greeted" (meaning he didn't say a word the whole interaction) by a bald man with a tattoo by his ear. He did not say "hi" or "how can I help" you or anything. Just started at me. I told him my order and before I could finish speaking (I needed to show him I was also purchasing a drink) he put my order in and walked away before I could even get the rest of my order out of my mouth. He immediately walked to the back. I did not pay because I was waiting to get his attention to let him know he still needed to ring up the drink and that he only rung up the bagel. He finally looked my way from the back and said "you can tap to pay" and then immediately turned around so he was unable to see or hear me raise the drink up and say "you didn't ring up the drink". Luckily the kind woman was in the front and took care of me. I hate giving a negative review because I love the lady with the red hair, but the other man was terrible.

It was cold outside, but it was even colder inside the restaurant, to the point where it felt like sitting in a freezer. It honestly made it hard to relax and enjoy the meal. Food-wise, we ordered a variety of items. Some people got pita dishes, others ordered pasta and pizza. One person really liked the eggplant spaghetti, while another didn't care for the sauce, so opinions were mixed. A few people did enjoy their pizzas. I ordered a Greek salad with blackened chicken. I'd rate it about a 5 out of 10, very mid. The salad included cranberries, which was an interesting addition. Not bad, just unexpected. The blackened chicken didn't seem well-seasoned, so it wasn't very impressive overall. On a positive note, the service was good. Our server was friendly and attentive, and I didn't have any issues there. Parking was also plentiful and easy, which is always a plus. Overall, the biggest issue for me was how cold the restaurant was. It was so uncomfortable that it really affected my experience. We might go back again as a group at some point, but I wouldn't go back on my own, and definitely not unless it's warmer inside.

I really did enjoy their pizza and found it to be superior to other pizza joints in the area. Their Bee Sting wings are fantastic and sometimes they have them on special for $1 a piece. The Rusty Onion appetizer is unique but delicious. Give them a try when you're in the area or even make a special trip. The bartender and staff are very friendly and attentive. They have a touch tunes juke box and I wasn't happy that when we would play music on it, the owner would skip through the songs if he didn't like it. I didn't appreciate that as I had paid money to hear the music. At least refund what I paid if you don't want it to play in your restaurant. (To clarify, the music didn't have any bad words. It just didn't fit their Billy Joel and Jimmy Buffet vibe) I am looking forward to going back for $1 wings. You can check their website or app for their daily specials.
