As the father of the child I've found about 1/2 of the medical staff were borderline rude towards the me. Get the sense that they're policies are geared heavily towards the mothers privacy with little regard for treating the pregnancy as a couple or family event. read more

I moved to the area at 34 weeks pregnant, and Greater New Haven was the second practice I called in my frantic search for a doctor to take me so far along AND during Covid. The very first receptionist I spoke to, upon hearing my story, IMMEDIATELY got me the earliest appointment possible. I was initially taken aback that I saw a different provider on each visit, but completely understand the thought behind it. My baby was delivered by Elizabeth Schwartz and Dr. Julie Shih was the OB on call. Both of them were warm, friendly, professional, and sympathetic listeners during my labor. My husband is a medical professional so he had technical questions which they gladly discussed with him, while focusing on giving me the direct down-to-earth care I wanted as I labored. I had some delivery complications which they handled beautifully, resulting in me and my baby both having an excellent hospital recovery. However, I did have some postpartum issues (unrelated to GNH's actions), and Elizabeth scheduled extra in-person and telehealth appointments to monitor my health and ensure I received the care I needed. My baby and I are now both healthy, and I was able to accomplish the drug-free labor that was my goal! Note: there is always an office wait time, which is difficult for my family situation. Called in to schedule an appointment today . The lady on the phone didn't even give a welcome. And sounded annoyed with her job ( which she didn't have to apply for ). When I asked if she had any dates available, she referenced that I had just scheduled an appointment at a different office ( which I was planning to cancel) ...and I have that right. And then she mentioned printing out papers and bringing them in before my appointment. I've never heard of this. I asked if I could complete them electronically she said there was no option for that. This is my second time calling (within the year ) and getting horrible service. Nothing was convenient. I also have private insurance. What if I needed an emergency visit ? I shouldn't be questioned about anything other than the visit itself. Get new staff that are professional! read more

I don't understand a lot of the negative reviews, albeit I've only been going here for about 3 years since I'm young, and haven't experienced pregnancy/labor and delivery with them, but I've always had a positive experience. I've never had to wait longer than 5 minutes and the nurse that took my vitals was very nice and could see I was nervous. I had my first pap and the nurse that did it was super kind explained everything and it was over quickly. The only thing I don't like is that you see a different provider every visit, also I had a bad experience with the yale blood draw labs they use. read more

I was a patient yrs ago of this practice. I am having a problem and was told to see a gynecologist. I was told that my Doctor had retired unfortunately. I was also told that if I hadn't been there within 3 yrs then I would have to wait 3-4 months for an appointment. I asked even with discomfort. She said yes. Payoff I am 65 with Medicare and a Supplement Anthem. She said we don't accept Medicare go to a clinic. So basically if you are 65 or older don't even bother. I'm sure they're fine if you're pregnant but if you're past childbearing age you're a non person. And the woman was very unpleasant. After initial disappointment at the lack of options for obs in the Hamden area, I have come to love this practice. Yes the wait times are terrible, but once you are a patient here, your wellbeing will be a priority from the beginning of your pregnancy through your postnatal journey. Any issues resulted in quick call-backs and emergency visits if necessary, and the midwives were all very knowledgable and reassuring. I saw pretty much everyone at this practice, and they were each fantastic. Most of all, they really pulled through throughout a long and difficult delivery. They were warm and calm and made all the right calls while giving me the information I needed to make decisions for myself. I saw three midwives through the experience, and each one was fantastic in her own way. I know that appointment making and waiting times are frustrating, but you can trust this practice in supporting you and the baby through a pregnancy and beyond. read more

Unfortunately, I had to find a new OB halfway through my last pregnancy because my original OB was retiring... After a short search, I found Greater New Haven OBGYN. I chose them because their locations were very convenient for me. It pains me to write them a bad review considering they were instrumental in delivering my first child. I was disappointed from day one with them but I didn't consider leaving the practice until after my child was born (more on that in a second). 1. When you first walk in, you are expected to sign a paper that says you will not ask for a note from them for time off from work because of your pregnancy. Ok, I agree - pregnancy is not an illness and women who treat it as such a burden disgust me. But, what a cold introduction to the practice. 2. The Orange office staff is very rough around the edges. No welcoming hello. An annoyed voice on the phone. Just all around unpleasant. 3. The Hamden office staff is only margins better. They are better in person, but still not helpful or courteous on the phone. My sister goes to the Madison office and she loves them - which makes me even more sad. I hate stereotyping. Ahem. 4. A new Dr. every visit. Okay. I get "why," but honestly, it makes you feel unwelcome and as if no one truly knows you. This would be an okay protocol if it were an office of 3 doctors (and midwives), not 13.... 5. Have sat in the waiting room (and half naked in the exam room, 9 months pregnant!), for many hours. On average, AT LEAST, 35 minutes. And that is an average! In the exam room, at least 30. You don't make pregnant women wait. 6. The delivery day. I stayed home as long as I could, and the midwife I called three times by 5am, insisted I stay home longer when I insisted we go in. I went in at 9cm. Yea. And worse, she was well after me coming in (when she admitted that she lives closer). And she smiled and said, "you couldn't hold out an hour more? I'm off in an hour!" Oh, and right when that hour was up, mid labor, she was gone. Eh, I understand, to an extent. Just another example of not feeling like they care. 7. *** This one is the breaking point - 5 weeks after delivery, I have a fever, my breast is swollen, all the signs of mastitis. I call them because they are my closest doctor (my gen. physician is 30 min away), and it's almost 5pm. They say, eh, wait until morning. I have been warned about mastitis by other breast feeding moms and I won't wait. I call my old OB, who is still practicing GYN, and he has me come right in, diagnoses me, and immediately starts me on meds. 8. The, okay, I am really not coming back point - they "double book" my 6 week after-delivery check-up, and insist they will call me back with a new date. They don't. So I call back. Wait twenty minutes on the phone and they say they will call me back again. I call my old OB, he takes me in for the 6 week appointment and Greater New Haven never call me back. Until three months ago, over a year past my delivery. No redeeming qualities. Sorry. read more

Greater New Haven OB/GYN stopped taking all patients who have Husky (CT Medicaid) insurance at the beginning of the summer. Not only will they not accept Husky, they will not accept private pay from anyone on Husky who wants to continue seeing their provider. Now "Husky" patients are left with no continuity of care and without a provider who they have been seeing for years. The New Haven market for OB/GYN services is small, wait times were already long for visits, and for many patients who are on Husky who may lack resources such as transportation, there are limited options available for providers in their area. Thank you Greater New Haven OB/GYN for contributing to the lack of access that continues to affect US healthcare. read more

If I could give a zero rating I would, very dissatisfied. I called to make an appointment for an urgent situation and was told I had to wait 2to 3months since I was a new patient. I can't wait 2 to 3 months for possible uti or other girly issue and was told sorry 2 to 3 months. I explained researched the practice and really wanted to change my doctor. No budging. Had made an appointment to get my Nexplanon out a month and a half in advance for serious side effects. I was scheduled to meet with Jamie Feingold, APRN. She refused to take it out, did not want to discuss an alternative form with me, and assumed I was practicing unsafe sex. She made me visibly upset and upon realizing this, rushed me out of the office without the necessary test scripts. Another employee made a snide comment about how me being upset was a huge inconvenience for the other patients, loud enough for me to hear. I wrote to the Practice Manager, Marianne Merwin, and in detail described the experience. I did not even receive a response. I have been a patient here for 10 years, and I won't return. read more

I have no problem waiting knowing that if it were me that needed a little more time to be examined or an issue that took a little longer to diagnosis than I would and have gotten the extra time taken on me. Some of the midwives were very good, but overall I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this practice. They discharged me as a patient because they messed up on my child's birth delivery SO badly. If you like to meet a new person every appointment and have NO IDEA who will be delivering your child when the time comes...then this is the place for you. But I wouldn't go back here if it were my last resort, I had so many health issues after they did what they did. read more

I sat and listened in horror to one side of a conversation the receptionist had with, from what I could tell, a woman who called in already a few months pregnant and had not seen a doctor yet. The receptionist was COLD, MEAN and HEARTLESS as she told the woman how wrong she was for waiting so long and how their practice wouldn't see anyone that far into their pregnancy and tried to push her off the phone. I wanted to walk our right then but was afraid I wouldn't be able to find somewhere else either. I've had a horrible experience with both the Hamden and New Haven locations of this practice. I have not stopped thinking about the poor girl on the other end of that phone call and would never recommend Greater New Haven OBGYN to anyone. read more

I am so so disappointed in my experience here. Initially I really liked my doctor, she had great bedside manner and seemed to genuinely care about my visit. The following year I began having health issues that needed regular attention and investigating, I not only found it impossible to reach my doctor during time of need (regular business hours) I also was left without assistance from the on call doctors, on one occasion my urgent call over the weekend to the on call doctor was not even returned. I have not received the attention or care needed from this practice and I'm back to the drawing board looking for a doctor who has the time and skill to assess and meet their patients' needs. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. My husband and I are new to the area and looking for a provider for my first pregnancy. This office was recommended to me. I called about a month ago and signed up for a initial new patient appointment. In the meanwhile I found a midwife service that was closer to my workplace and worked better for my schedule. I called the office back to cancel my appointment about a week after I made it and was told that they didn't have me listed for an appointment at all. Fine. Today, three weeks after the cancellation I received a phone call to remind me of my appointment tomorrow. The appointment that I had cancelled but they didn't even have me listed for in the first place and still couldn't find me listed today when I called back. Clearly no one in this office knows anything about organization. I am so glad to NOT be a patient of this office after they've shown such a lack of attention to detail. read more

I'm in shock at these reviews! I have been a patient of Dr. Moscarelli for over a decade and never once had an issue with the practice. I really can't say enough about Dr. Moscarelli, he has seen me through good and some hard times. His diligence and dedication helped me through significant illnesses,and his bedside manner is second to none! I'm currently on my second pregnancy under their care and couldn't be happier. I understand seeing everyone in the practice is an issue for some, but if that's the case then maybe a smaller practice is best for you. I didn't have an issue with it, as it was nice to know everyone would be on the same page in the instance that I would not be able to see my regular doctor for whatever reason. I primarily use the Hamden location, I have been to all the other locations, but Hamden is the most convenient for me. The office staff is always welcoming and their sonographer, Chris, is one of the sweetest women you'll ever meet. Another thing to note is that they are affiliated with Yale New Haven Hospital, which is a huge benefit when it comes to scheduling studies and/ or surgeries. As far as I'm concerned, I'll never stray from this group! read more

The Greater New Haven OBGYN group cared for me and delivered my two children. I chose the group based on their affiliation with Yale and good experience with care during pre pregnancy. My only negative experiences have been long office wait times (try to book earliest am times for appointments); and the OB who attended me after the birth of my 2nd child and performed his circumcision. With a large number of providers, you are bound to run into one who isn't your favorite. These negatives will not persuade me to change groups. The midwives are excellent! They provided me with two intervention free births in a hospital setting. They listened to me and gave me room to labor the way I chose, while keeping tabs on mine and babes health. It was the balance I was looking for. read more

This is one of the types of doctors where a woman really needs to feel cared for, and safe with. I always hate posting negative reviews because doctors are human beings who have outside lives, stress, bad days, etc. I did not deliver my kids with this group, but was sent here by my midwife for an issue I needed surgery for after I delivered my last baby. When you arrive at the office, the receptionists are cold and don't immediately acknowledge you. The medical assistants make up for it with their friendly personalities and professionalism, so they were very nice. The doctor I saw made me feel rushed, like I was a number and not a person. The day I had surgery I was pushed through very quickly and sent home before I really knew what was going on. I got an infection the next day, and when I called the on-call to describe my symptoms they seemed annoyed and told me to take Motrin instead of Tylenol. I called back several hours later, still in pain and with a fever, and that doctor actually called in antibiotics, but never offered to see me. Fast forward to the two week post op, I'm in worse shape and more pain that I had before surgery. I told the doctor how distraught I was and was told I was still healing and it would take time, and I could be seen again in six months. I called my midwife in tears weeks later and pleaded for help because of how sick I was. She got me right in and apologized for ever referring me to this group. read more

I highly recommend Greater New Haven OB GYN. The staff is incredible. Everyone I have dealt with has been very thorough, patient, and kind. I always get thoughtful answers to my questions. I switched to this practice when I got pregnant and immediately felt welcomed. I was encouraged to schedule my appointments with different doctors/midwives so that I could become familiar with everyone on staff, though when I made requests for someone in particular I was always accommodated. Everyone in the office was very patient with me, a first time mom, despite the fact that they see pregnancies every day. That was not my experience elsewhere, and it was what I needed. Lastly, the midwives made themselves abundantly available to me following my delivery and they encouraged me to call with any questions or concerns in the time between delivery and my first check up. I would not go anywhere else. read more

I have been with this group for 20 some years and couldn't be more thoroughly disgusted with the staff in New Haven and treatment I experienced. Assembly line service, starting with the cold greeting, to the complete disregard of my presence at the window, I have never in all my years in the medical field witnessed such unprofessionalism. To say I believe they would ever respect the HIPPA law would be an understatement. The receptionist never turned to even acknowledge me as I signed in. During the waiting period she ignored three others that signed in also as she talked on the phone for a personal call, laughing and tapping her pen obviously not caring that we could see the neglect of our importance . Ten minutes later I approach the window to tell my Ultra sound appointment was now. She motions " hold on" with her finger as she continues to text on her phone ! The entire looked sloppy and unkept with varying degrees of attire. I explained I didn't want the technician to think I'm late and she replies" I'll let her know". Another girl, I assume to be a medical assistant, or acting as one escorts me to the bathroom and says " leave a urine sample " and walks off . After doing just that ( clean catch because I know better), I exit and nobody is anywhere in sight of the hallway with multiple doors. I, as appropriately as possibly , call out "hello", she than appears and leads me into the examine room, not a word is spoken. Thank goodness Nancy the ultra sound tech was pleasant, professional and mature. Management, if any exists, needs to take a thorough look at the goings on and do immediate training on many levels. If I didn't highly respect my physcian I'd go elsewhere. I think looking into hiring trained medical office staff would be appropriate, Lincoln Tech and Stone academy have trained individuals and you get what you pay for!! I can't imagine the doc's or some of can't see this blatant act of unpleasantness, and busy or not they should make the time correct it. The reviews speak for themselves, such a shame ! read more

I've worked with two of the physicians in this practice. They were both outstanding and provided exceptional care.

I don't understand the other reviews at all, and have to wonder whether they're "real" considering that one lives in San Francisco and one in Bristol (not exactly close by) and each has only reviewed a few other things on Yelp. I've been a patient at the Hamden office (same doctors and midwives) for four years now. They have been fantastic through my two pregnancies and births as well as routine feminine care. I was able to schedule mornings appointments, very helpful since I have to work. They can be slightly behind for afternoon appointments, but that's pretty much typical for doctors I find. I do like that they have recently transitioned to electronic medical records, so the blood draw station and the hospital already have all your history information. Seems like there's less chance of errors that way. The office seems to be run efficiently- after being called back, a medical assistant does your weight check, blood pressure, etc, and then you meet with the doctor/midwife in the room with little additional wait time. Most importantly, the doctors and midwives I have interacted with, which by now is pretty much everyone, have been knowledgable, personable, and supportive! read more

This office left me hopeless without my birth control prescription for OVER A WEEK and could not have cared less. Had to waste so much time and effort speaking with the incompetent receptionist. oh where do i begin.....i have been coming to this place for over 10 years, and my experience has always been fine. I recently found out i was pregnant and started bleeding over the weekend. i was told to go in the next day for an ultra sound. thats when the disaster started. the ultra sound tech was doing the ultra sound and had the wrong patient info the entire time, she never even introduced herself when she came in. it took her 10 mins to realize i wasn't some pt she thought i was. then one of the midwives, amanda, came in for 30 secs tops, spewed off "you may be miscarrying but who knows, go get ur blood checked" and ran out, leaving me and my husband totaly confused. although she seemend like a nice enough person, she was rushing us and seemed like she didnt want to be bothered. i ended up getting a few blood tests done and midwife amanda said she would call me to give my pregnancy hormone result and let me know if they lowered or got higher.... she never called. i had to call them myself while at work and have the secretary tell me that i had a miscarriage! very unprofessional office. the secretary was more helpful than the damn midwives!! she told me "i dont know why she told you she would call you, she's off until next week!" absolutly no communcation whatsoever, i was outraged. i called the on call doc to get answers on what i needed to do next since noone called me, spoke to dr. lima, he was very nice and caring and i let him know what i felt about his staff. i soon left this ridiculous practice and see Dr. Joseph Grasso at generations who is phenomenal. i ended up being out of work for 3 days and needed a docs note from my work, i called and tried to get one, they said it was all set and to come in and get it.... i went in, and they didnt have it at all, in fact, the nurse said "well we wouldnt tell you to miss work for some bleeding" as if i made the whole thing up!! and some bleeding?? i said, i am miscarrying and you want me to go to work? you tell patients this? she was very rude. but the doc ended up writing one for me....stay away from these clowns, they dont care at all about their patients it seems like which is sad. Lisa the secretary was literally the only helpful one out of the entire staff. its sad, confusing and scary to go thru something like a miscarriage and deal with a group that acts like they want nothing to do with your care. read more
