    Double Kofta Rice Platter
    Joelle C.

We were excited to find another Mediterranean restaurant to try out. I ordered the chicken kabob rice platter which comes with rice, hummus, cucumber sauce and pita. The chicken was super moist but lacked a certain flavor to me that I can't put my finger on. The rice is definitely different than what I have ever had but the more I ate it, the more I enjoyed it. I will say that it had a lot of a specific seasoning. I'm not sure if it was thyme but I felt it was over powering. The cucumber sauce was really good as was the hummus. I love that they grill the pita to warm and toast it before serving. The hubs had the kofta rice platter. Aside from the rice, he enjoyed the dish here better than the other kabob place we have been to in Holly Springs. If I could take certain elements from each place and build my meal, I could build the perfect plate. lol Overall, the food was delicious and we will definitely be back.

Authentic food cooked fresh. We dined in and the order was ready quickly. The chicken was a bit dry but I'm hoping that's a one off and everything else was great! Rice was delicious, homeade cucumber tzatziki and hummus are served alongside the kabob with warm pita! I love greek food and this hit the spot. Seems to be a very popular "to-go" spot but inside was clean and staff were friendly. Support local!

My husband and I both got kabob platters and everything was incredible. We're both suckers for authentic Mediterranean food and everything from their tzatziki to their baklava hits the spot.

Rice Platter Chicken Kebab It was delicious, we stay with my husband for a couple days in the town and we had this for 2 days because it was really good. Chicken was tender, hummus good and I don't even like hummus but I did like this one, rice delicious for be just plain rice it was really really good.

Dropped by for lunch here and ordered a Medi plate, additional lamb kebab, a falafel snack plate, and tabouleh salad. The food was delicious and we loved all of it!! The kebabs were perfectly grilled and tender, the hummus and baba-ghanoush were creamy and delicious. The falafels were awesome too!!

It isn't my friends or my favorite. It was overpriced, last time we went, and the food was okay. We much prefer other Greek food places.

His service was greatly appreciated as all of us wanted to make it somewhere to watch The Canes game! He was efficient with opening the wine and getting our dinner orders in right away. Thank you Diondre for a great start to our evening. All of us raved over our food. Two of our friends had the Tomahawk Pork Chop featuring spinach, barrel-aged feta, herb aioli, and yummy Greek lemon potatoes. Both people agreed the kitchen team cooked them perfectly. One person absolutely loved his fire-roasted lamb chops that also had the delicious Greek lemon potatoes. Another one of our friends loved her Chicken penne Mykonos which we have ordered to-go many times. It looks even better in the restaurant as it has spinach, feta, mushrooms, tomatoes, white wine lemon cream sauce, and parmesan. This dish is a must try when you visit Taverna Agora in downtown Raleigh. Lastly, someone at the table exclaimed that their grilled salmon was one of the best salmon dishes he had ever enjoyed as its unique presentation features pickled beetroot, sautéed spinach, and a lemon caper sauce. I had the Poseidon Branzino which was fabulous. The dish had roasted branzino, medley of sautéed cherry tomatoes and onions, fresh herb rice, and skordalia (I had to look up what that is - a fascinating Greek garlic puree). The blending of all those flavors made for a scrumptious dinner, and thanks to the kitchen team for preparing it perfectly so that I could even eat the skin of the fish. We shared two bottles of Assyrtiko wine which is one of our favorite Greek wines after visiting Greece a few years ago. The wine list at Taverna is simple but thorough and fun to experiment with. Great job Taverna Team!

Such a fun rooftop, definitely don't skip sitting on the roof…read more When you arrive parking can be a bit difficult around the restaurant but there is street a couple blocks away if you don't mind walking. Walking in you'll feel like you've been transported to a village like, Greek atmosphere. To sit down you'll check in with the host and then be seated either inside or on the rooftop. We opted for the rooftop as it was a nice evening. To start I ordered the Baklava Old Fashioned (Bulleit bourbon, homemade baklava syrup, Angostura bitters, and Amarena cherries) which was amazing. Next we ordered the trio of all three spreads (Tzatziki, sun-dried tomato hummus, and spicy feta spread) and the calamari. Both dishes were excellent and I definitely prefer the spicy feta and tzatziki sauce. For my main course I ordered the Tomahawk Pork Chop (Chargrilled tomahawk chop, spinach, barrel-aged feta, herb aioli, Greek lemon potatoes) which was a bit disappointing. I probably should have sent the pork chop back as it was cooked well done and was very dry but was I was too hungry and didn't want to make my parents wait. For dessert I ordered Baklava Cheesecake (New York-style cheesecake with nuts and baklava filling) which was very nice and my mom ordered the Limoncello cake (lemon cake with lemon cream frosting) which was definitely the star of the show. If I'm back downtown I may try Taverna Agora again but will definitely avoid ordering the pork chop.

Some of the sides were an up charge even after the $5! I'm not sure if the guy at ghe register was new but he rang me up for a chicken gyro and then charged me $6 for the combo. Glad I was paying attention!! Another guy had to come fix it. I was surprised to see that my gyro was actually a lamb kebab sandwich. It's the only gyro both in the states and the Middle East that was prepared this way. Thank goodness there was lots of taziki sauce because the kabob was spicier than I expected. I ordered stuffed grape leaves as my side but it was not delivered with my kabob so I had to go up and ask for it. Again I was surprised due to the filling which is usually rice. Not sure what they were stuffed with but I left most of it on my plate. There were both clean and dirty tables and booths. A Greek restaurant playing Spanish music?? Yep.... Well, at least the tea was good.

It's a nice bright and spacious restaurant with tons of shared outdoor seating. I ordered the Mediterranean platter. After leaving I realized I ordered and paid for 2 Kabobs but only received 1. The platter came with greek salad, Tzitziki, hummus, warm pita, stuffed grape leaves and I got the lamb kabob. The salad was average. Lettuce, feta, oil, lemon juice, oregano, tomato, and olive. The Kabob was well seasoned with a bit of spice. The hummus was delicious, creamy, and balanced. I often find restaurant hummus has to much tihini, but this was perfect. The Tzitziki wasn't the best I've had, but still good with the Kabob. The Dolmas/ stuffed grape leaves were interesting. This was my first time having them. There was a subtle licorice like taste, then start/vinegary. I liked the flavor overall but I was left with an unsavory mouth-feel. Not sure if it was because they were served cold or the ingredients in general. Finally, I completed my meal with a piece of pistachio baklava. Now, I've never really like baklava, but something told me to give the pistachio one a try. OMG, I have a new favorite dessert. The nutty, salty, flavor of the nut combined with the syrup, and the best crunchy texture EVER!! I purchased three more pieces to go!! For the platter, a drink, all the baklava and tip, I spent around $37. Nothing stood out about customer service. They weren't inviting, but they were rude either. I'd go back for the hummus, to try the chicken solvalaki, and of course for more pistachio baklava!!
