This is a great little family owned, authentic Greek restaurant with delicious food and personalized, gracious service. Immaculate, bright and nicely appointed decor. Our server was very attentive and kind and she brought us some tzatziki and bread as they got our order going. Portions are very generous and food is really superb. We enjoyed the Pikilia platter with dips and spreads accompanied by fresh warm pita. The gyro platter was huge and the meat tender, perfectly seasoned and sliced thin and crisp, just the way we like it. Even the fries were outstanding. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming with family all pitching in and a warmth and unique quality you just don't see much these days. We look forward to returning and trying more menu items!

Let's talk lamb chops, because these are the showstoppers. Perfectly seasoned, beautifully charred, and impossibly tender, they hit that magical sweet spot between rustic Greek comfort and polished steakhouse execution. Every bite is rich, juicy, and layered with flavor -- the kind of dish that makes you slow down just to make it last longer. And then there are the baby back ribs, which honestly deserve their own standing ovation. Fall‑off‑the‑bone tender with a glaze that balances savory, sweet, and smoky, they're the unexpected MVP of the menu. You don't go to a Greek taverna expecting ribs to steal the spotlight... but here we are. They're that good. The vibe is exactly what you want from a beloved local spot -- lively, warm, and buzzing with energy. Service is friendly, fast, and genuinely welcoming, the kind that makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit. Greek Islands Taverna delivers big flavors, generous portions, and a dining experience that feels celebratory from start to finish. It was founded by owner Christos "Chris" Charoudis, the restaurant's menu is largely inspired by traditional family recipes. Chris's mother, Eleni, personally quality-controlled the dishes to ensure authenticity. This is the original restaurant, at the corner of Lantana Rd. & Jog, a second is on Congress, They have expanded & during covid outdoor dining in the parking lot was created. There is a free parking in front along with a steady stream of pick up traffic. The menu offers extensive Greek dishes with servers being very quick & efficient. Portions at Chris' Taverna are enormous. One plate is enough for more than enough for 2 of us to share. The restaurant is casual, reservations are not accepted, it's first come & first serve. Tonight six of us met here for dinner. We arrived before 6:00 and waited only a few minutes for a table. When we left there was a line outside. When we were seated we were given water & a garlic spread with warm fresh pita. We all shared babaganosh & generous delicious dips. My husband & I shared a gyro salad with lots of grilled lamb, more than enough for us both. Others enjoyed greek chicken salad, shrimp with pasta, and spanakopita. Everyone brought leftovers home, enough for a few meals. Happily we weren't rushed.

Everything was fresh, flavorful, and super satisfying without feeling too heavy. First of all, the portions were HUGE. There was so much food. It was perfect to order a couple dishes to share between us. But the real star of the show was the tzatziki. Phenomenal. I genuinely wanted to eat it with a spoon. Creamy, garlicky, perfectly balanced 10/10. The salad was just what I wanted after sitting in the sun all morning. Crisp, refreshing , and not an afterthought like it can be at some places. Every bite felt fresh and well-seasoned. To be honest, I did use the tzatziki and salad dressing instead of the provided salad dressing. And the gyro wrap with garlic fries? Easily one of the best gyros I've had in a while. The meat was flavorful and tender, the wrap was perfectly put together, and those garlic fries were the ideal salty, crispy side. This spot is definitely getting added to the pool day lunch rotation.

They have some small two top tables inside and a couple high tops outside. They had a board with lunch specials on it. But we wound up ordering from their regular menu. I got the moussaka and he got pasticchio. Both dishes came with a very generously sized Greek salad and warm pita wedges to start. The salads had tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, onions, pepperoncinis, and romaine lettuce topped with feta cheese and dressing. There was also a small rice stuffed grape leaf -- cut in half. The salad could have been a meal in itself. The moussaka was layered egg plant and potatoes with a ground beef filling topped with cinnamon béchamel sauce. The pasticchio is the Greek version of lasagna but with elbow macaroni. Both portions were quite filling. I ate my dish and he brought half of his home. He was saving room for dessert. For dessert, he had galaktoboureko which is a custard filled pastry topped with simple syrup. He said it was good, but it would have been better if warmed. Or at least if the syrup was warm. We had very good service. If you like Greek food and are in the area, this is a good place to try. Large portions at reasonable prices.
