The Hungry Poet is back baby!! (I love being Yelp Elite I've just been busy!) "The Salty Zebra blew me away, The Black Grouper entree made my entire day. The burger was seasoned and the patty was fat, But those home made desserts....whooo that's where it's at!" This meal/dining experience brought me to Yelp immediately. I was excited y'all! The Salty Zebra (picked it b/c of good reviews and proximity to Barnes and Noble in Tequesta) They cover the basics extremely well: greeted with kindness and professionalism, seated promptly, and approached immediately by a wonderful server. I won't spend time here just know you will not be disappointed with the service and it was beyond pleasant. Apps Burgundy Escargot (Pernod Garlic-Parsley Butter) We asked for a recommendation from the appetizer section of their menu (perfect amount of selections by the way...I despise an encyclopedic menu). We were thinking escargot and we were so pleased that it was recommended...that sealed the deal. It was garlicky and buttery and served with the perfect white bread. Spot on. Entrees were freaking fantastic! Florida Black Grouper (Creamed Kai Kai Farms Mustard Greens, Colab Farms Glazed Carrots, Carrot Marmalade) I never order grouper. I go out of my way to order it because I don't enjoy white fish usually. Something spoke to my spirit (plus our amazing server highly recommended it) and I went against my natural inclination. Lawd have mercy I'm glad I did. That grouper was perfectly seared, flaky, flavorful and completed excellently by the mustard greens and carrots. I do t know what the sauce was in the plate but it was savory a bit earthy in the best possible way with a twinge of sweetness that made me want to lick the plate ‍ (hey I'm from Mississippi...we do that ). Needless to say there wasn't a morsel of food left in my plate. Other reviews complained about small portions. I beg to differ it was a perfect portion, and I have a biiiiig appetite. (I am the hungry poet after all! I enjoy experiencing three full courses and not being miserably full by dessert.) Bistro Burger (1/2 LB CBS Blend, Gruyere, Sweet & Sour Onions, Au Poivre Sauce, Parmesan Potato Wedges) Boyfriend got the burger. It was great--I am well loved so I got the first bite lol Patty was thick and moist and seasoned! I was impressed that they didn't stay away from seasoning with this burger. We suspect it could have even been prepared sous vide then seared because of how evenly cooked it was. Our server was even kind enough to bring ketchup for the potato wedges. Dessert LET ME FIRST SAY: the second dessert (chef's special) was complementary. I don't know why? Good karma maybe? Speaking of the chef... Chef Michael was working that dining room. ‍ He walked by our table and asked if everything was okay. Not realizing he was the chef we asked for a little more bread to sop up the escargot butter. He brought the bread out a few minutes later himself and was super polite. He introduced himself and I was impressed that he was so personable. He stopped by two more times to check on our entrees and desserts. I love an involved chef. I have a couple friends who are Executive Chefs in pretty swanky places and I love to see that bar being met. Especially as a Yelp Elite reviewer. You know how most people can't wait to write reviews when they're pissed. I can't wait to write reviews when my socks are knocked off. Back to dessert... Chocolate banana I love banana desserts. Some might be biased but this dessert was oooooooh wee deliciously special. I don't have the description because I think desserts change weekly/daily etc but trust me... GET IT! If you like bananas chocolate and caramel get it! Homemade S'more When I said made in house I mean it! The marshmallow the graham cracker all of it! It was rich and decadent and it blew me away. I'll be thinking about these desserts for a while. And again I don't t know what we did to get a free one but Chef Michael brought both out himself and I felt the "we go the extra mile" vibe. It was crystal clear. Sounds like I'm using hyperbole but I swear I'm not. Decor and ambiance was beautiful. Wasn't loud at all. Hands down a perfect dinner experience. We had been walking in the hot sun all day after this impromptu trip to Stuart and even in leggings and a T-shirt we felt comfy and welcomed. Went based on Yelp reviews and I was not disappointed. The decor is funky and fun. The bar is huge and accommodates at bar dining. One bartender was very knowledgeable about bourbon and made a killer old fashioned. We had the truffle pasta (amazing), the lamb ragu (good) vegetarian curry (toothsome) and the scallop appetizer (my husband licked his plate). The place was dead with do a Saturday night. The waitress was great but definitely could do better in another restaurant. We ordered the whipped feta and it was so overpowered with mint, it was like eating gum. Very disappointing. Everything else was good, just not great. I got the chicken and it was good, but again not great! The vibe was cool and the decor was pretty and very tequesta-ish! Not sure we will be back. read more

My son and I's favorite local restaurant. From the food to the drinks to the desserts and the service, this place is a complete 5 star. In the small village of Tequesta, this restaurant is everything you need for a date night, or casual dinner. My son loved his food so much. The kids menu is ridiculously affordable and generous! Super excited we finally had the chance to check out this place! Loved the ambiance, very Tequesta like, very beachy, full of character. Also had a bit of a 90s flair to it, lot of color, fun vibe. We sat at the bar and ordered a few cocktails - espresso martini and Empress Gin cocktails. Everything was great. Bartender was fabulous. We didn't have a reservation, but they were happy to accommodate. The place itself was more crowded than I expected! For apps we had the French onion dip, the wahoo ceviche special and the marinated olives. Everything was tasty! The ceviche had great flavor, I loved the thinly cut strips of zucchini. For dinner we ordered the duck and the chicken and mashed potatoes. I thought both were great. The chicken had a ton of flavor and was cooked perfectly. I loved the crispy skin. My 1st time, went with another couple, really cool place! Nice seating. All was great!! We ord several apps, the mushroom pate was a definite fave!! Sev apps chicken, beet salad which I get everywhere was one of the best ever!! Their wines a lil on the pricey side while they didn't have the one we picked they recommended another that was perfect! Dinner was fantastic, we shared the black grouper, it was so delicious & perfectly prepared, came with sweet potato and bok choy, excellent another had the lions main mushroom he loved it. Where do I begin! I reached out to Salty Zebra via email to inquire about a set dinner for 12 people for an engagement dinner. Seamus responded quickly with the sample menu of appetizers, mains and dessert, price and all other details. We proceeded with Salty Zebra because of their quality farm to table menu, cute atmosphere, and price matching our budget. We had a lovely time from start to finish! The service - INCREDIBLE. We'd been meaning to try Salty Zebra for a while, and the Flavor South Florida promo finally gave us the perfect excuse. One thing to note: the Flavor SF website makes the prix fixe look like a standard 3-course, but it's actually four courses here--app, seafood, meat, and dessert (the mains are half portions, which works out great for variety). No amuse bouche as stated on the FSV menu, but it was plenty of food and a better value than many menus we've tried. Hopefully they'll update the online description so more people know what a good deal this is. The food itself had a lot of highlights. The appetizers were both winners: the corned wagyu tongue was tender and layered with a mustard sauce and greens on rye--hearty but elegant. I want an entire Reuben made out of it! The mushroom pate turned out to be a surprise standout: spreadable umami that paired nicely with a sweet blueberry "jam" and excellent sourdough from a local bakery. For mains, the lobster linguine was delicious--al dente pasta, rich sauce, and perfectly cooked lobster. No surprise since pasta is chef David Chapman's specialty. However, there were also a few misses: the crab-stuffed squash blossoms were weighed down by a heavy crust that obscured the delicate ingredients. We appreciated however that they were working with a gluten-free batter. The lamb porchetta, while flavorful and satisfyingly gamey, came out way too salty. Desserts (a burnt orange creme brulee and key lime pie) were fine but not noteworthy. So why 5 stars? Many of the Flavor SF menus seem to play it safe, and we appreciated that Salty Zebra showed off their creativity and gave us a broad sampling of their dishes. Chef Chapman stopped by to chat several times and was genuinely interested in feedback. The staff were enthusiastic and welcoming. The place gives off fancy food vibes without being pretentious. Given how receptive the chef was to feedback, we left feeling that the already creative menu will continue to evolve and improve--which makes us even more excited to come back. read more

Absolutely atrocious. A crime against food. The biggest travesty is I can't even put 0 stars because 1 still feels generous. I had some chicken and mash potato dish with gray. The gravy was water, the mash potatoes were from a box, and the chicken was under cooked. I ended up getting was sick afterwards, and it wasn't just me, the two others in our group had the same thing, same result 3 times. Do yourself a favor, keep driving and find someplace else or go to gallery grill next door. read more

Ambience is fun and the service was wonderful but oh my the food. Nothing had any flavor. It's like all the seasonings including salt were stolen from the kitchen. We tried the bruschetta, Brie, tomato salad, broccolini, curry, and yellowtail. Fish was dry and tasteless and served with this bizarre almondine thing. The tomatoes in the salad were horrible and the feta was a few tiny crumbles. Portions of everything were very small. Only 3 red wines available by the bottle and all not very good so bring your own bottle. Been wanting to try this spot since they reopened it as The Salty Zebra, and it was great!! The decor is so cute and girly - reminds me of a spot that would be in Charleston. We had the best waitress and I really wish I remembered her name. She was super friendly and personable! We got the bees knees which was super refreshing. The burrata was great and we each ordered the 3 pastas, and I can't even pick a favorite because they were all so yummy!! At the end, she brought out a dessert for my friend's birthday in the house which was so sweet! It was the watermelon sorbet and it tasted just like watermelon and was super smooth. Loved it!! I had been there before and was underwhelmed with my steak au poivre. The sauce was thin and no taste. The others in my party liked their meals so thought I would try it again. Portions were way smaller than last time I was there. My friend liked her veggie pasta dish. I mistakenly ordered the vegetable curry not realizing they were root vegetables which I am not that fond of. But the dish had the smallest amount of sauce with a tiny little rice or quinoa pancake and the rest were veggies. I asked the waitress if I could just get another pancake which she said would be an up charge. Needed dessert after not eating my meal. Both desserts were eh! What a hidden gem! We met friends who live an hour south of the restaurant... we live an hour north. Perfect meeting place! Plenty of free parking. There's a very pretty bar area... we sat at a round table (4 of us) and had plenty of room even for 6! Had the bread selection which came with a homemade jelly, olive oil and a delicious homemade butter- it was delicious... had the Brussels sprouts which were cooked to perfection- crispy and yummy. Tried the mushroom special which was good/ that was more challenging for the 4 of us to share. My friends and husband each had their signature cocktail with a skewer of kiwi on top which they enjoyed. My husband had the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and homemade chicken stuffing which he liked a lot. One friend had the cauliflower bolognese which I tasted and it was something else... incredible taste. I had the lions mane mushrooms and took home half it was rich and filling. My husband and I were visiting a friend in Jupiter, and we were so excited to try this newer place (at least new to us). The Salty Zebra is so cute and fun inside! We loved the decor, even their bathroom was trendy! But it was more than trendy, it was truly delicious! They had an excellent cocktail and wine menu. To start, we tried the stuffed squash blossoms, they were like zucchini fries, stuffed with blue crab, highly recommend! For my main I had the lobster linguini, I'm not going to lie, I didn't fully know what kind of sauce it was being prepared in by the description, but I am so glad I ordered it. It had a generous amount of lobster (1 lb, I believe) and the sauce was so yummy! My husband got the chicken breast with the potato purée. He said it was the best mashed potatoes he ever had! Server was excellent!! I believe the owner also checked on us twice. It is cute. I thought it would be much louder due to the open space however I was pleasantly surprised. We could easily have a conversation. Two members of the party ordered from the Prix Fixe as they were eager to try multiple items. I ordered an entree from the standard menu. They both ordered the red snapper which they enjoyed (see pic). They ordered different appetizers - one olives, the other pickled veggies which she said my her tongue "numb". They ordered different again - one got onion soup, the other a salad. Both proclaimed theirs "excellent". They changed the snapper slightly with one opting to forgo sausage. Both enjoyed. I ordered the Basil Matagliati which was good. I would have preferred a little more flavor, it was very mild. I am not a big fan of the texture of the tomatoes in this dish. Had the great pleasure of dining at The Salty Zebra. We were given a warm greeting and a beautiful booth/table to dine at. Our waitress quickly came to the table to bring water and take our order for drinks. My sister and I both got the happy hour margarita. It was one of the best drinks we've had. I typically like a salted rim, however this drink did not need it (and I'm suppose to cut back on salt anyways). 3 of us ordered the burger and the shoestring fries. Best burger and we were given an abundance of fries that were so good. We shared the chocolate tart that had the BEST sorbet on the top. The decor is fun and whimsical/classy. We just ate here to celebrate my husband's birthday and we both loved the food and the ambiance. My black grouper was delicious and my husband loved the steak. The potatoes and mushrooms side that came with his meal was incredible. The restaurant kindly gave us a free desert since we were celebrating a birthday. It was a plate of various kinds of delicious chocolate and ice cream. My only suggestion is that they include more bok choy with the grouper. The bok choy that accompanied my dish was one small piece with the end on. It was not really edible and was more of a garnish than a side. We will definitely return and try other dishes. read more

Cute place with a pastel jungle motif. Servers were friendly, maybe too much. Noise level very high. The food was good, but it was not a good value. The fish dishes were $38-$40+, and the ones we got were tiny. Duck portion was small. Vegetables and sides were very sparse. A few extra little slices of bread to supplement our $16 appetizer was another $6. Are they trying to bring back nouvelle cuisine, or is this an excuse for shrinkflation? The salty zebra was Reccomended by several people in the area. They were not wrong. Our group had the pink zebra, the sinner and the naked almond to drink. All of the drinks were amazing. For dinner, our group had the black grouper, the cauliflower pasta and the lamb pasta. One of the best dinners ever. Michaela (our server ) was attentive and knowledgeable. We had an amazing anniversaries dinner here last week! The atmosphere and decor are charming with great energy. Service was spectacular from everyone we encountered. The food was fresh and delicious (and hot, which I love). I could have eaten bowls full of the whipped pistachio feta starter. Both the lobster linguine and lamb bolognese were among the best we've ever had. They even treated us to a special dessert for our anniversary! The prices were very reasonable too.
