I perused the available cake (and pie) slices and other smaller baked goods, but did not see the Blackout Cake Slice! When I asked the staff, they regretfully informed me that they did not have slices that day, so I went with the next best option... an 8" cake! I didn't get any writing on the cake, as I already had a Happy Birthday candle, and I didn't want to add extra icing to the cake. I liked how well they package the cake. The box was large enough, and they line the bag with a thin piece of cardboard to stabilize the box. I'm not a big sweets person, but I enjoyed the chocolate-y richness of the cake. The cake itself was moist and the pudding held everything together well. I would be back to try their Strawberry Shortcake and other desserts.

I see the beautiful storefront and park across the street. Walking inside is managed chaos. I can see various baskets ready to be picked up. It seems like my idea, everyone else has as well. I see the owners son from the videos on the phone taking orders and I'm assuming his mom behind the counter. I ask if its ok to take two struffoli baskets but I spy with my little eye Sfogliatelle. I order a few cannoli as well as a Large Sfogliatelle to go. I jump in my jeep and I'm so excited to bring everything home. Except that Sfogliatelle was calling me. I'm on the Long Island Expressway and I ripped that box open like a fiend! OMG, that Sfogliatelle was soooo good! It was very fresh and I was covered with flaky layers. The interior of the Sfogliatelle was spongy, just like I remember as a kid. Circo's Pastry Shop, thank you for the trip down memory lane. Great pastries, I can't wait to return.

The Last Crumb has quickly become one of my favorite cookie shops in New York. I'd even put it in the same conversation as Culture Espresso and Seven Grams, and personally, I prefer it over Levain. While Levain is known for its thick, dense cookies with a firmer exterior, these actually feel and look like classic cookies--crispy around the edges with a soft, chewy center that's incredibly satisfying. That said, it really comes down to personal preference. If you love a softer, chewier cookie, The Last Crumb is the place to be. If you prefer a thicker cookie with a harder exterior, Levain may still be your favorite. Either way, Williamsburg didn't need another amazing dessert spot... but I'm so glad it got one.
