Green Dot Stables, located in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit, was previously a dive bar from the 70's until 2011. After being closed a year the new owners opened it back up as a craft slider "bar". There is nothing fancy about this restaurant. Its decor is basic wood tables and chairs in the center with booths lining one side of the space and a bar on the other. The staff are casual about you being there - there is no fanfare. When we arrived, we checked in at the host stand to get our names on the wait list. They text you when your table is ready. The place was full when we got there but the turnover was quick. We didn't wait more than 10 minutes and were seated in a booth. The menu is all sliders on one side and fries, salads, and sweets on the other. Fairly simple and the prices are beyond reasonable. The server told us most people get 3 sliders and fries. I did that plus I got a Moscow Mule to drink - it was only $5! I chose the Double Cheeseburger, Spicy Crispy Chicken (with a slice of provolone added), Olive Burger, and the Truffle Fries. Everything is served as soon as it's made so your items arrive at different times, which was fine by me. Each slider was served in its own cardboard "dish". Again, nothing fancy. The Olive Burger was really good - served with green olives and cheese on top of a beef burger. I liked the saltiness of the olives - it added to the total taste in a positive way. The Double Cheeseburger was actually pretty big so I would just get the single next time. And the Spicy Crispy Chicken was recommended by our server. He suggested adding the provolone slice, which I did. That was basically a buffalo chicken sandwich. And it was good! The truffle fries were excellent - you could really taste the truffle seasoning/oil. I also liked that they were the skinny type of fries. This is the type of independent restaurant I'm always looking for - one that sticks to its theme and does an excellent job of it. I'll definitely be back! read more

Had a great dinner last night with my family. My kids had a great time selecting their sliders and being creative. The fried chicken was a favorite at our table since it also had a drizzle of maple syrup (ala chicken and waffles.) I heard the guys behind me order a PB&J with bacon so I ordered one as well. That was a fun flavor profile, too. The Cajun fries weren't my favorite. I know there are a lot of reviews raving about them so I decided to try them. But, it's just a really heavy dusting of Cajun seasoning on top of them. No subtlety to the seasoning at all. The ambience hasn't changed over the years. It's an ode to horse stables and horse racing. A fun experience for our family to eat here before heading to the Tigers game. read more

First of all, I'd give this place 3.5 stars if it were possible, definitely not a 4, it just didn't live up to the hype. We happened to be going someplace nearby, and decided to finally try this spot. (I sort of wished we just went to Mexican Town to eat). The double cheeseburger was typical and good. Fried chicken Caesar was good, We liked the dressing Pork belly was disappointing and bland Cheesesteak was just ok Fried chicken was good The Cuban was one of the better ones For the sides, we liked the thin fries, with Cajun and poutine being our favorites. I didn't care for the venison chili cheese fries, but the others liked it. The Mac and cheese was so bland, even some salt and pepper would have made it better, but it wasnt on the table and our server wasn't around to ask for it. One thing that annoyed me was that our food came out gradually, our fries came out way before our food, 12 minutes to be exact (looked at the time on my photos). We also ordered some cocktails, I was in the mood for a margarita, so I ordered a spicy margarita, it waa pretty good, not spicy at all, no salt, but the flavor was decent. My sister ordered a New fashioned, she said is wasn't anything special. We also got summer soda (vodka, basil, lemon, cucumber and soda) it had a strange flavor, I'm not sure from what, as it should be pretty simple and straight forward. I'm not sure of the name of the other cocktails, it may have been gin promise, it was pretty good. Overall, we all said we wouldn't go out of our way to eat here again. We all agreed that it didn't live up to the hype we've heard all of these years. I did like the old school vibe inside, dark with horse stable themed decor. We will be regulars here! All of the sandwiches are sliders so you can get two or three depending on how hungry you are. I had the grilled cheese and the cheeseburger sliders which were absolutely delicious. My husband had the Cuban and the coney, which he raved about. The sides are all small, so we got fries and Mac and cheese. Since everything is small portions, we had room for two desserts. The fried bread pudding was made of chunks of that you could eat with a fork. The s'mores dessert was slider style, with melted marshmallow and chocolate inside a slider bun. Went on a Saturday, first time even hearing of this place but I was pleasantly surprised. Upon arrival, was told it was a 20/30 minute but it was more like 15/20 minutes. We were seated, and took a look at the menu. All the food was under 5 dollars which was very cool. I ordered 2 Chicken Caesar sliders and 1 Impossible Burger. The food came very fast and was hot. I love that all sliders were on a soft fluffy bread and all ingredients were fresh. It was just okay for me, great experience but not mind blowing. I had a great time here! The weight is often really long. The last time I went in the weight was over two hours and I wasn't able to stay. I am so glad I came back and tried again! We came in the afternoon so the wait was only about 15 minutes. The drinks are pretty cheap and there are so many different types of burgers you can try. I personally loved the Reuben! Our server was great and even gave us a few suggestions like adding bacon to the PB&J. I highly recommend the truffle fries they didn't even need a dipping sauce. Not for me, but I get the appeal - having a host of different sliders to try for ~$4 each is a fun novelty plus where else can you wash it down with a $4 beer these days? I just felt the food didn't taste very good. It was ~45 minutes to be seated during non peak hours but luckily they have a covered waiting area in the back with picnic tables and a separate bar. Once seated, service was quick and ambiance was lively. I enjoyed the Christmas Ale they had on tap but others in my group who ordered cocktails were disappointed. For food, I decided to try the pork belly slider and cuban slider but wouldn't order them again. The best thing I ate was probably the fries and the kale salad, although it was pretty basic. Came here many years later and while I'm still a fan of the concept--cheap sliders and basically budget tapas, I left the place feeling slightly dissatisfied and my stomach hurt. Maybe this place is great in your 20s but just okay in your late 30s--either way: - Caesar chicken slider (get it) - Coney Island dog (get it esp if you're a tourist) - korean slider - I mean the peanut butter is a shock factor. I think the fries are actually the best draw to this place. They are crispy and thin! Not pictured is the venison chili fries and the poutine fries that I tried which were delicious! I wish I had ordered the venison one for myself! The sliders were good. I liked the spicy pork slide, but it wasn't really that spicy for me. Came here on a Wednesday around 6pm and they were busy but not crazy...the host was very nice and willing to seat me without the rest of my party present (they have a sign that you cannot be seated without your full party). He said they will accommodate when they can so I appreciated it! The place was a bit loud and fast-paced. Menu was pretty straight forward with sliders, fries, and sides. Our waiter was not the friendliest. He was short and to the point which seemed like the vibe for the restaurant but no chit chat, eye contact, and I felt like he just wanted to rush us out the door. Our party ordered a side of fries and two sliders each. Fries came out first which was a bit of a bummer as we were able to finish them before we even saw our sliders. The Cajun fries and the truffle/herb fries were very delicious! I ordered the chicken ceasar slider which was quite tasteless, chicken way overcooked, and overall a dud. I ordered just about everything. My bill before tip was nearly 50 dollars and I did not order anything but the main event which was food! The double cheeseburger was disappointing, I thought the lamb special lacked flavor, the Cajun fries were crispy and they look seasoned but they were just okay. Green Dot is a slider bar with craft beers and about 10 or so featured cocktails under $10. The restaurant is nicely appointed with a horse racing theme and the staff are friendly and accommodating. We ordered the mystery meat(duck), Korean, corn beef, and gyro along with the venison chili cheese fries along with the bread pudding for desert. All items were delicious. Out of three of us, I thought they went a little heavy on the sauces but the others did not mind this, thus the stack of napkins that are available on the table. I have been here several times and never did a review on this place. So it is a small little building somewhat close to the Old Train Station, the parking lot is small as well. When you walk in it has an old style look to it, there is no windows but they keep it quite lit with ceiling lights. The food here is basically sliders, everything on the menu is sliders but there is ALOT of options. For a cocktail I had an Old Fashioned and for the price I had to try it but it was VERY watered down I definitely wouldn't get another one. I decided to have the Coney Dog, Buffalo Chicken & the Corned Beef sliders along with Venison Chili Cheese Fries & Mac n Cheese. All of those sliders were amazing and the Chili Cheese Fries were phenomenal but the Mac n Cheese really didn't have much flavor. It was a busy 4:00 Saturday with a 40 minute wait. There were 7 of us. Luckily we were able to wait in back bar area and have drinks. Hostess was great. Beers were good. Fries were fine. Food brought out sporadically by different servers but that's okay. It's just that the sliders weren't anything special to us. They sound interesting but flavor and quality lacking. I came here for a late lunch and sat at the bar. I'm a shortie and even I have to note that the bar stools sit suuuupeeeer low lol. I ordered the caramel apple cocktail, pork belly slider, cheeseburger slider, truffle and herb fries, clam chowder and later ended up ordering a s'mores. My cocktail was good, tasted just like fall! The fries are shoe strong and were hot, crispy and seasoned well, I got more herb than truffle from them. My cheeseburger slider was decent as was the pork belly slider. The pork belly was dry and more like jerky, not the fatty, buttery flavorful pork belly I was expecting. The clam chowder came with a drizzle of sriracha which was unexpected but actually complemented the chowder very well! I paid my bill but mingled for a while after and ended up deciding I wanted something sweet so I ordered a s'more. I was super disappointed when it arrived to see that it was marshmallow and chocolate melted and encased on a toasted slider bun. I did taste it to give it a try and nope it was not good. We stopped here for Detroit Dinner Week/Let's Do Dinner on a Friday night. They had a special for $20 where you get 2 sliders, 2 sides, and a dessert. I did the math and I think I actually paid more than if I had just ordered off of the regular menu even though they were supposed to have discounted prices for the event.. but some of it goes to charity so I guess it's okay. I got the fried chicken slider and the mystery meat which was a flank steak with fried sweet potato strings and a chimichurri aioli for my sliders, truffle fries and mac & cheese for my sides, and bread pudding for my dessert. I honestly wasn't too impressed with the food. The fried chicken slider was overwhelmingly sweet and all I was able to taste was the maple syrup. I am a big truffle fry fan and these were just wayyyy too salty and they hurt the roof of my mouth, plus they had forgotten them and we had to ask our waitress where they were. It was definitely very very busy and she had a lot of tables and the food runners just grab things as they come out so I can understand the chaos. The mac and cheese was tasty though and the s'mores that my boyfriend ordered was just marshmallow fluff and nutella on a slider bun which I thought was funny lol. Definitely a cute place, loved all of the decor and the horse races on the TVs. It might be more worth it if I had just ordered off the regular menu. I ordered the fish fry which was swai, corn meal, and tartar. My bf ordered the Ballpark heater which was a filet, buffalo sauce, mayo and pickles and a side of Cajun fried which was really Cajun . The drinks we ordered was the Juan Daly, which was tequila. I ordered the rum trotter and he ordered the summer soda and gin promise. However, we waited quite a while before even being acknowledged by our server and then only after wasting on a large table that came in after us. The ambience is cute but tight. We were seated at the first table by the door and the table next to us was basically sitting back to back with us. The food is good. High marks for the chopped wedge, falafel sandwich, bahn mi, and the clam chowder. The not so great were the bct and the Korean. We will be back like always. Service staff seemed limited and the food arrived haphazardly. The food runners had no clue who ordered what, nor did they make any pretense of attempting to stage the courses. Food just flew at us and we ate. We ordered a variety of the sliders which dominate the menu. The Cuban was judged best, and the Hot Brown was also good.
