Birch Tree Books & Plants is a really interesting combination of a business…read more The store itself is chock full of books and, of course, plants in a series of little rooms in a house in downtown Leesburg.  It's a fun place to wander through and look at what is on each shelf and in the corners.  There are other cute quirks such as a wheel you can spin with each purchase.  You can win candy or a small prize among other options.  It's a little extra fun and the kids loved it when we visited.  We were there for an author talk which took place upstairs in a bigger, open and light-filled room.  The set up worked very well, providing a casual atmosphere but also one that was very intimate due to the smaller number of chairs the space could accommodate. The event was well run and we will definitely keep our eye on the calendar for future events.  Parking is convenient in nearby garages.

It is also quite small, which makes the inventory important. Unfortunately, their inventory is heavy on romance, historical fiction, some new releases, and children's books, which don't happen to be genres I read often. If these are your genres, Birch Tree should be on your to visit list! It is a very cute bookshop and will make some readers immensely happy.

But I was thirsty when I happened to be walking past Trinity House this past Friday, and I stopped in. The cafe is large, with lots of comfortable seating. The main room had tons of windows and great light. I had enough time to enjoy a cold drink and read my book at one of their tables next to a window. I think it's a great place for studying, reading, or working - comfortable seating, great light, and a menu of beverages and snacks. They clearly have a mission, which I don't know much about, and the the things they sell weren't for me (crosses and Bibles and other Christian themed items), but the cafe was very comfortable.

We walked inside and were immediately greeted by an older lady. She asked where I'm visiting from, I told her Connecticut. She said "well, in Connecticut, you're known for Mystic Pizza. Here in Virginia we're known for our peanuts!" I never knew about Virginia peanuts. She handed me a few handfuls of different varieties of peanuts to sample. These peanuts are larger, drier, crunchier than others I've tried, and they have so many flavors. I don't mind peanuts, but they're not my favorite snack. In addition to the peanuts, they also sell the typical things one might find in a touristy gift shop. There's candles, magnets, tee shirts, and other items that say Virginia on them. I liked the outdated look of this little store. The lady working here was very friendly, if it weren't for her I would never know about the Virginia peanuts.

We even just took delivery of our final pieces this past week, but even still, we decided to take a look at this store, as we haven't been to it since it was in the outlet mall across the street. The selection of furniture here was amazing - lots of pieces available and th4ey had incredible deals going, including 20% on everything and most everything we saw was already 60% off! The only gripe was that they didn't have any decorating accessories, which is what we were hoping for. Incredibly eclectic and beautiful selection of gift and home items. In all my years of posting reviews on Yelp, I've only posted ONE, count 'em ONE, review that's not a restaurant! This will be #2 because the word HAS to get out about this gem of a shop. (Do read my other reviews for great places to eat in the area...and which ones to skip and not bother visiting lol.) I've walked past this place soooo many times on my way to the SalonLofts next door - but have never ventured in - not really sure why....maybe because I ASSumed it would be one of those cheesy wanna-be vintage gift shops not worth the time of day. BOY WAS I WRONG! Beautifully laid out, the shop is HIUUUGE - it goes on and on and on and.... YOU WOULD NEVER TELL FROM JUST LOOKING AT THE SHOPFRONT! This place is probably overlooked by shoppers and strollers-by only because of its awkward location at the very end of the shopping center tucked around a corner adjacent to the roundabout entrance to The Village at Leesburg shopping center. But park ANYWHERE in the shopping center and walk - NOTHING IS THAT FAR A WALK AWAY. (Grab a latte and pastry at Weird Bros Coffee on your way to Lazy Daisy!) WELL RUN and WELL CARED FOR - the inside and alll the displays are immaculate, beautifully curated and decorated. Each display is a separately cared for and stocked "kiosk" by individual vendors BUT they all look cohesively put together. Plenty of walking around area - the aisles are spacious and wide so you're not bumping into people. I WAS IN THE SHOP FOR ALMOST 2 HOURS (!!) SCOURING EACH NOOK AND CRANNY - end to end to end to end - SERIOUSLY. So much to see. Pro Tip: If you're able to, come during the week while everyone else is working (come when it opens in the morning!) so you virtually have the whole place to yourself to browse and take it all in. It is quite literally like 50 little shops in one place. I wasn't looking for anything to buy - just wanted to finally see what this shop was all about and I couldn't help myself - I left with some vintage crystal, an antique display timepiece as a gift and some beautiful vintage jewelry pieces. And PRICES ARE VERY REASONABLE. I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK whenever I need to find a unique gift or precious one-of-a-kind pieces (not mass produced Hobby Lobby cheap fakes lol) for my house. The staff is wonderful - kind, friendly, helpful, patient, THEY DON'T HOVER AND THERE'S NO PRESSURE TO BUY. Take your time and browse to your heart's content. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I was so excited to learn they had the sought after Neehdoh Nice Cream cones after they commented…read moreon a few people's posts looking for them. I rushed right over and bought 4. They did up charge, which I expected ($15.50/ each). As soon as I got home, my daughter took one look and told me they are fakes. Ugh! So? I went back to the store today to ask for a return. Who I assume is the owner insisted they are real, despite all the proof I showed him online. He said they got them from Needoh and they are real. THEY ARE 100% fake, so I asked for a return. I understand these things happen, but how a business responds speaks volumes. He refused to refund me stating they have a no return policy. So, no...I would not recommend this dishonest business. Sad because their stuff seemed cute. Never will return.
