Why did I only recently discover Green Symphony, after living in NYC for almost six years and when I used to be around the Theatre District ALL THE TIME?! And now that I'm not near the Theatre District quite as often, I find myself going out of my way to come here for yummy food! Not everything here is vegan or even vegetarian (many chicken and tuna items offered), but there ARE many vegan and/or gluten-free items at the food bar, usually more so at the cold food bar than the hot. My personal favorites are the kale salad, the tofu and mushroom salad, the curry tofu salad, and my absolute favorite is the roasted corn - the last of which is often either not offered or out by the time I get there. But SO GOOD! Fresh and carefully created to bring out the best flavors. There are also a good number of vegan desserts, many of which are wheat-free but not necessarily gluten-free as they use spelt flour or "regular" oats (as opposed to gluten-free oats), but there are usually one or two items that ARE gluten-free. I got the BMW bar which has organic brown rice and pinto bean flour, walnut, apple sauce, fresh apple, cinnamon, sea salt, baking soda and raisins. Maybe a little too much walnut for my taste (I feel like most of my bar was made out of walnuts, just barely held together with the other ingredients), but tasty nonetheless. I'd love to see more vegan AND gluten-free items offered, but I'm usually pretty happy with what I get here. I will have to try the smoothies sometime - those also sound really good! read more

If you are a health conscious individual or a vegetarian this is a great place to get lunch or some snacks. If you are not I would not recommend eating at Green Symphony; there are a few tables, the space is small, and the interior is rather old and run-down. If you are gluten- free be careful! Many of their baked goods are wheat free, but not necessarily gluten- free. Additionally, their gluten free baked goods are not the best, but not the worst. Those who want to take a healthy lunch break should consider Green Symphony. A super tiny, independently-owned salad bar/smoothie bar/deli that packs a great selection off their menu and buffet stations. They offer a ton of natural fruit and vegetable smoothies and drinks. If you check out their full menu, they have specialty items like rice bowls (containing brown rice only), creative wraps, creative salads, and so forth. The options are simply great. They offer delivery and pick-up for your convenience. While they have their buffet stations, I just go straight to ordering off their menu. I've tried a good share of their options which includes the Sesame Tofu Steak Salad, Tofu Mania Bowl, Chicken Bowl, New Yorker Bowl, and the Dalai Lama Bowl. Their salads range about $7-10, and I think they are pretty fair price-wise. The portions are very good, and they come with plenty of the toppings that are being offered. Regarding the 'Bowls', they are simply rice bowls that come with a variety of different toppings (much like bibimbap). They strictly use brown rice for these, and none of the ingredients are fried. It's my personal favorite to order when I get lunch from here, if not the wraps. The smoothies and speciality mixed drinks packed with only healthy ingredients are also worth the try. They have an extensive smoothies menu that is probably the best I have encountered around here. Green Symphony is definitely one of my favorite hidden deli spots. Vegetarians/vegans would particularly love this spot because they offer so much in terms of non-meat options. This place has become a bit of an oasis for me in the Times Square desert of obscenely overpriced, unhealthy, crowded takeout/delivery joints. Their juices and smoothies are particular favorites - generally in the $4.50-7 range, which is almost unheard of these days - they are generally excellent. I love the Almond Greens smoothie, and their new Avocado Fiesta (avocado, banana, coconut, spinach, pineapple) is incredible. They make a nice, fresh salad and have some great sandwich options - again, for quite reasonable prices (e.g., 6.00 for tuna and avocado!). Friendly, efficient service - if you drop in, they will get you in and out quickly and efficiently. They have a few seats for drop-ins - it's a bit cramped, but not unreasonable if you want a quick sit-down meal. They also have almost a mini-supermarket area, where you can just grab a power bar or some healthy cracker/chip options (Mary's Gone Crackers, etc.), so I also like to drop in a grab something if I've brought in lunch and just need a little snack of some kind. There is a hot and cold salad bar as well - my friend swears by this, but healthy restaurant or no, I just can't handle food that's been sitting out in trays... bad bodega memories of a lifelong New Yorker, you know. I needed tofu, and Green Symphony was there. I was working out of our NY office in midtown for a few days, and after some restaurant meals, I was really craving real food. I mean regular food. Like I'd eat if I weren't traveling. And I'm vegetarian. Really what I wanted was a good tofu stir fry or something. So I looked up vegetarian on Yelp and found Green Symphony. The place itself is non-descript and easy to miss as you're walking down the street -- keep an eye out if you're looking for it. Don't plan to eat there, although technically you could, as there are a few small tables. Inside, it's visually overwhelming, as there's a lot stuffed into a small space. I patronized the cold buffet for two days in a row for lunch. Most of the items were vegetarian, though I don't think all. Nothing was labeled, which I found disappointing, particularly given the other Yelp reviewers saying that ingredients are listed (I think that's just for the sandwiches). I ate the lentils, the tofu/peas/mushrooms, the couscous, the israeli couscous dish, etc. Everything was very very good. On the first day, I got a medium amount and a pecan bar, which was $12.50 total. The second day I got a smaller amount, which was $5. Aside from the cold buffet was a hot buffet, which appeared to be all meat items. The place was very confusing, as there were no signs or information. There was what appeared to be a salad bar, but it was behind the counter, so I'm not sure how that works. There were lots of options for energy bars and beverages and such all over the place. I think it would take me a month of going there before I felt like I understood how everything worked and what was available, just because it is kind of dizzying and who knows what half the stuff is. But it really fit the bill for me, because I was dying for some good protein-rich vegetarian food at a decent price. Once again, my preconceived notion for this vegan place did not match my experience. Decided to grab dinner here with my vegan friend right before seeing the Book of Mormon. The menu includes non-vegan items. Since we were in a rush, I didn't end up ordering vegan food, mostly because I didn't wanna think too hard about what would taste good. So I ordered a Bombay Wrap and picked up a few samosas from their hot buffet. The Bombay Wrap took a bit longer to come out than I had expected, but then, it was made to order. The ingredients were fresh and prepared well. Samosas were charged by weight, so they ended up being fairly expensive. The real downside to this shop is the inadequate seating. There really isn't much of a dining area, you're much better off doing take out. The overflowing trash bin was a bit of a turnoff too. read more

Located in the cesspool of Manhattan that is the juncture between Times Square and Penn Station, Green Symphony is a spot that I've been dying to try for awhile - after all, when you're surrounded by Chili's and tourists waddling around with their mouths agape and naked painted ladies, a small, health-conscious store sticks out like a sore thumb. The cold food/hot food bar looked a tad picked over, a good lesson to try to come before 6 unless you feel like eating only brown rice and the vegetable curry. Only one small sad piece of baked salmon remained. The guys working the counter managed to be very patient as I hemmed and hawed between the Dalai Lama and the Tofu Mania. The Dalai Lama was delicious, especially the dumplings, but pretty heavy on the brown rice. Not sure if the whole bowl was worth $10 without a shred of meat. I would have liked to see more of the advertised spinach in there to balance out the carbs. NEXT TIME: any one of the bars, hot food buffet, avocado and hummus pita wrap, oatmeal with jujube and honey, banana and dates smoothie. read more

I saw rave reviews of this place and decided to stop in for a quick lunch. I was disappointed. Each dish on the buffet was a separate entity, and it was difficult to create a tasty combination. For example, they had Japanese soba noodles, Indian stew and potato samosas , as well as a Korean style chicken. My food did not blend well together, even though I tried to put together a tasty combination. Then, mid bite, I looked on my fork and found a hair!!!! I found the manager and got a full refund for my meal. The potato samosas had a good, spicy Indian flavor , and the grilled veggies were moist and seasoned well with salt , pepper and Italian spices. My sister called it janky. My bro called it Green Gymphony (the sign makes it look like it). I think this "health food mart, prepared food, sit down" joint is awesome. We had a light lunner here after our flight from LA and a short subway ride. It hit the spot for me, but la famille was a bit unimpressed. Probably because they're the "Macaroni Grill, In-N-Out, Cheesecake Factory-loving" type of diners. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Different strokes for different folks. The salad and prepared food bar is extremely vegan-friendly, but has options for meat eaters. I plated black beans, beets, lettuce, grilled veggies, and creamy hummus to weigh at the register. (Came out to about $40-$50 for 4 people). I also bought a vegan gluten-free apple-fruit pastry bar thing at the counter for breakfast the next day. It was pretty good, dense and granola-y, but good. I wanted a green juice/smoothie, but I was too full and it was $5-$6, a little steep for a beverage. I had a post-dinner chat with the owner, a really nice Korean man, about reasons for veganism/vegeterianism. Billed as vegetarian on Yelp, but it isn't really. "Has selection of vegetarian options" is closer to the truth. Buffet food was overcooked, lackluster, and overpriced. The salmon was dry, the Brussels sprouts were way too sweet (and why? WHY sweet?), and the brown rice was clumpy and sticky. They have some sandwiches but they specialize in salads and food bar. Everything is marked to be healthy. I usually get the salad which comes out to be around 7.25, 5 add ins. the selection is small but diverse, beats, sweet potato, eggplant, My recipe is chicken, tofu, tomato, sweet potato and broccoli with basamic dressing. the warm food is all market as healthy, free range this, organic that. Some seem to have high oil content so be careful. at 6.99 a pound it adds up pretty quickly. But the selection and taste are great. read more

Good, reliable lunch option for healthy and filling bowls. I usually order through Seamless and the bowls held well through delivery. Opt for the Chicken Bowl, a bibimbap creation with brown rice, steamed vegetables, and chicken. The New Yorker Bowl is quite similar to the Chicken Bowl with the addition of dumplings, but I personally am not a fan of their dumplings- they are meekly stuffed and often over cooked. On the Chicken Bowl, pour a generous amount of the Korean style Hot sauce (red sauce served on side) if you can handle the spice. This is what adds flavor to the bowl. I always add kimchi to add a kick of flavor and crunch as well. A couple of reservations about this dish: - Not enough veggies. When I think of bibimbap, I think of plentiful mounds of veggies. The Chicken Bowl doesn't give you that and usually, you're left with more rice at the end than you'd like. Would love an option to add more veggies on ordering systems such as Seamless - Chicken usually prepared too dry. Wish the chicken could be more under-cooked or kept more moist. read more

We had a vegan in the group so we had to order something vegan friendly. We found this place and got it delivered. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich since I was in a meat mood today. Price was about 6.95 which wasn't too bad of a price. It came in a whole wheat pita bread with alot of wilted lettuce and chopped up tomatos as well as some soy mozzarella(they were out of almost every other cheese).
