I have been before to get my 6 year olds haircut and the service was kind and helpful. Today I went in for a quick wash, cut, style, I'm a single mom and had my toddler with me who was quietly sitting on my lap playing her ipad. I was told they don't allow children there and it's dangerous for them, and that they'll make an exception for today. I was embarsssed bc that was clearly a lie as my child has gotten her haircut there before...I told them no thank you, i don't want to be cut by them and left. i am a single mom and had no choice but to bring my child. I was treated horribly and shamed for being a mother of a young child. i will be posting on every parent group in the farmington valley...your clientele is mostly mothers..how dare you treat someone like that. read more

SUCH a good experience here today! I recently moved to Avon I decided to go here after receiving a gift certificate. I have been here a few times before but it has been several years. The atmosphere is pleasant. They offer you a beverage when you come in. I didn't have to wait more than a few minutes (and I was early). I had a cut/wash/style with Sana and she was awesome. She was personable and professional and I love how she did my hair. I went off her suggestions because honestly, it was just a super grown-out mess almost down to my tail bone. Being 9-months pregnant and having not had a cut in a good year, she was able to give me something that was light and low-maintenance without being a "mom cut". My hair feels SO nice. Afterward I went in for the "signature facial" with Leslie because again... 9 months pregnant and I wanted to treat myself before this little one makes her way out. She went above and beyond to accomodate me and make sure that I was comfortable given my state. The facial was seriously probably one of the best I've ever had and included a really nice neck/shoulder massage and arms/hands. I felt awesome when I left. Not the best experience, if you want to do extensions for hair, I recommend going elsewhere. This salon is not equipped for such services, nor are they able to accommodate appointments for maintenance and upkeep. There are other salons in the area that are both well staffed and trained. Sonia is terrific for color and is happy to let the CLIENT decide on her choice for the look she wants. My stylist was nice, but could not keep up what is necessary for the extension services. So I'm a little torn on how I should go about my review. I normally get my hair colored by someone else but I also have to drive 2.5-3 hours to get my hair done. My hair grows pretty quickly so I have to go quite often. After doing some research I turned to Green Tangerine since it is much closer. I have your typical Asian black hair and my current hair color is ash blonde. Now the first time I went for my root touch up at Green Tangerine my stylist used a high lift color. I don't like paying extra for a blow dry because my old stylist never charged for a cut and dry if you get your hair colored. So I didn't realize till I walked out that my roots were a completely different color. I've never had this issue before. All the stylists I've been to will take however long they need to make sure my hair turns out well. So I called them and told them I wasn't happy with the way my hair turned out. The manager was super nice and told me they would fix it at no charge. I went back in and the same stylist did my hair. She lifted my roots even more. It was looking better but it only looked good at the top. When I lifted my hair the roots were still a different color than the rest of my hair. She told me it was fine because I was planning to do a balayage (?) in a few weeks. I didn't want to be difficult so I just left. Never have I had a stylist brush off my concern. Don't get me wrong, the ladies here are great but for the price of their service I wish my end results were better. I went back today to get my balayage done. I asked the girl at the front how long my stylist had booked me for and she only said three hours. For this appointment the goal was to lighten my hair a lot and tone out all the brassy tones. I was surprised she only booked me for three hours knowing how long my hair took from the previous appointment. As usual my hair did not take the glaze well - we ran out of time. She played it cool told me my hair looked great. My hair was still wet because I don't like paying extra for the blow dry. But this time she didn't have enough time to even make sure my hair was damp. It was dripping wet and she had to go to her next appointment. This place takes in walk ins. It says so on the door. I wish my stylist offered to have someone else rinse my glaze out so it could stay in longer. I felt rushed out and had a sneaking suspicious my hair wouldn't look the way I wanted again. When I got home and my hair was dry, it was still brassy in different areas and my root area was still brassy so the transition looks blotchy like the two other times I went. In terms of politeness, friendliness, overall service these ladies are just fine. But I have never had so many issues getting my hair colored. I guess my issue is their overall expertise in hair color? They don't seem to know how to handle my hair which is understandable but I don't like how they try to get me out the door when my hair doesn't look finished. Every other place I've gone to will keep me there until we reach the 'end goal.' I am hesitant to call about my appointment today because I don't want to be 'that girl.' I guess i will look into 'home-remedy' options first to see if I can fix it on my own easily, if not, I will probably end up going back for a redo. I normally wouldn't come here because it seems a little pricey, but I got a gift certificate form an 80-minute Swedish massage... and I mean, who would ever turn that down? Green Tangerine in Canton is really cute... decorated very well, not loud at all, very pleasant and courteous girls working reception, etc. I came in 15 minutes early and was offered water, tea, coffee, etc. As I was waiting for my masseur (Zoe) to come get me, I watched some people get their hair cut and styled, everyone seemed very happy. My masseur came out about ten minutes late, and I was worried that that meant she would cut my massage short ten minutes. It took a couple minutes for me to dress down, and then had a complimentary foot bath? Good deal, not complaining. Zoe brought me into the massage room (again, everything here is impeccably clean), and I received a fantastic massage. Very thorough, very serene, everything was fantastic. Zoe was very easy to talk with and did a great job. Highly recommended. And then when I left - I had a full 80 minute massage! I have curly hair and try to find stylists who will do a proper curly hair cut, which is done dry for those of you who aren't aware. When I first came in, the receptionist was very kind and offered me a beverage. They have a lot of hair products that you can buy. When my stylist brought me to her station, it was set up in a very quaint manner. They have tall armoire-looking spaces behind their workstation to hold all of their products. It keeps the floor open and neat which I hadn't seen before. My stylist was Sue Ann and she was wonderful. She seemed to really understand my hair even though hers is straight. She was even able to teach me some tricks that I found very handy. When she washed my hair at the end, the chair you sit in reclines and...get this... massages. Very nice. I could have stayed there all day. The products she used on me were MoroccanOil which was awesome. Overall I had a great experience here and would go back in a heart beat. Its more than the typical $30-$40 hair cut, but when you're getting makes it worth it in my opinion. read more

Everything from the moment you make an appointment, to entering the salon for you appointment, is done in a warm and professional manner. A delightful atmosphere! I've been to this place several times now and overall experience was good. I am Asian so have been wary about the type of salons to go to. My first visit was ok, didn't like the hairstylist as much and she was worth about $75. She was supposed to be better skilled but I didn't like how she styled my hair. My second and third visit were the same stylist and I liked what she did at the end. She was much cheaper but I think she does a better job. All 3 visits I had asked for a trim and so far they haven't done anything that I don't like. My boyfriend on the other hand went to get a trim on my third visit but it didn't look like they trimmed anything. Maybe a few straggling hair at the back but they didn't do much to make his hair look a little more well-kept. We were afraid of the stylist messing it up so we just asked for a trim. In the end we just think of it as he was charged for the wash and dry, not the cut lol I won't bring my boyfriend back but I will bring myself back. read more

The haircuts are great, which is why I came back. However, the staff at the front desk has a long way to go in being truly accommodating. It goes beyond awardly asking if I'd like tea. I brought my daughter with me, as I wasn't able to find someone for her to stay with. We had enjoyed a nice lunch quietly in Barnes and Noble, and she was looking forward to watching me have my hair styled. Apparently it was far too much trouble to place a mat on the floor so she could sit and read her books. Had been going here for pedicures for years and always had positive experiences until the last year or two. My regular pedicurist took another job and cut her hours way down. She always did a great job and I loved her! (I also must say I totally understand and support her need to do something else & follow her dreams!) But once she cut her hours, I had to see other people. All of whom didn't last very long. I saw 3-4 different people before they hired the one that's there now. I tried scheduling my appointments into my regular person's very limited schedule, but that became more & more difficult as she was now very much in demand and her schedule didn't really fit mine. I tried the one other person left to do pedicures and it was a horrible experience. Not only did my 1 hour appointment take nearly 2 hours, causing me to be late for another appointment I had scheduled after, but the woman never stopped talking. Not answering her and taking out my iPad & starting to read did not stop her incessant yammering. So I tried my regular person again a few more times, but the scheduling just didn't work out. It seems that they only have 2 nail techs at the salon. You can either see the wonderful person with the very limited hours, or the intrusive, can't get the job done in the allotted time because she won't stop taking one. Please, Green Tangerine, hire more nail techs. Neither of the current solutions work for me. I tried, perhaps much longer than I should have, to make it work, but now I won't be back. read more

This is a great place to get your hair done. I've been going to Sana for several years through many hair styles -- from very long to short hair -- lots of color and highlights, too -- she's blow dried it straight, curled it, flipped it, you name it. Sana can always find something to suit my mood. Since she's a senior level stylist the prices are a little high but that's probably why I'm always satisfied. The atmosphere is nice (quiet and lots of light) and the front desk staff are very nice, too. I only go maybe 5 or 6 times a year yet most of them know me and are pretty friendly, too. read more

I was hesitant to write a review because I don't want to get anyone in trouble, but my first experience with this salon will probably be my last. I signed up online for a pedicure. The time specifies it takes an hour to hour and fifteen minutes. I was there for two hours. She didn't even start the pedicure until I had been waiting for 30 minutes. Some people may enjoy that but when you're a working mom your time is hard to come by. I need a place that can stick to a schedule better. She also was very rough and actually cut my toe with the buffer. She apologized and all, but it hurt bad and just overall nothing felt good. The whole pedicure was rough and just not enjoyable. Writing online review is a new communication device for me, but my Green Tangerine Spa and Salon experience on Saturday mandated a post. On Saturday December 14, I walked out of the salon $203+20% tip poorer with the worst hair cut I have ever had at any salon in all my adult years. My hair is so short that "stubble" is the only adjective I can use to describe the look. It will be months before my hair will resemble a "short style". To say that I was dissatisfied doesn't come close to an explanation of the haircut I have to live with for months. When I explained to Amy I wanted a neckline trim and NO I don't like my hair cut over my ears, she paid absolutely no attention. Obviously there will be no return visits to Green Tangerine. My hair could not look worse if I had closed my eyes and taken the kitchen scissors to it myself. BEWARE! read more

I've gone to this salon and spa for a couple years. The quality of this salon has plummeted. The desk staff has messed up my appointments several times. They aren't welcoming or friendly, including management staff, if there is any there. I saw my stylist for a while and she left, they won't tell me where she went so I tried someone else. The quality is not the same and all the new stylist did was try to push me to buy shampoo. It seems like none of the same stylists are there anymore. I love getting facials I've been getting them for years. I was out with some co workers for a girls day one sat and we all we're going to pamper ourselves and get facials well one of my coworkers suggested going to the green tangerine because she had been dying to go there and try it. Well we tried it and it was the worst facial I have ever gotten the girl Melissa looked sloppy and unprofessional she seemed very inexperienced.so instead of the relaxing facials I usually get this one was more painful and awkward. I don't know how any of there other services are but I'll never go back there for a facial atleast not with Melissa. My friends told me that their experiences that day weren't as bad but they didn't really have anything to compare it to. read more

I'm sorry to say I agree with the other poor reviews. I called this salon because I have several friends who go here and say they are the best. I told them I just had a bad a color and need only a few highlights to brighten up my hair. I asked for someone very senior. They said no problem. I got in right away. And found out the young woman who took me was titled senior yet worked there for only a few months. And before that came from a mall shop. Which is fine. But I wanted someone who had been there for a while and doing this for a long time. They afterward told me her titled was senior. Yet they lne what I meant. Anyway. I left there greasy (even tho i said not to put anymore spray in my hair) and DARKER!!!!!! So I was so sad. Two salons later an now this. I had been going to my guy in Boston 8 yeas and never an issue. Then started somewhere else that I have a shot for 2 years. And now this. So I called them. And the assistantmanager was so nice. She said let's fix you up. Brought me in with master styler Deb. Ok great. Now we are talking. Two bad color jobs. My hair can only handle a few highlights at this point just to brighten me up (said a gazillion times at this time). Showed more pics to Deb and she said ok we can save you money and do this or this. I was like whT?!? Pay more money? She was taken back that I was surprised. I said no. I'm not paying anymore money. I'm leaving she said she has a special shampoo that could righten me up for free. Ok fine. The shampoo was full of bleach and made my hair toast. So bc there cheap they ruined my hair. As I was leaving the salon. Upset the asst manager said how is everything. I said look. These are the pics I kept showing your stylists. Does my hair look like this? She said no. Then Deb walks by. Stops. And makes this so awkward and said Everything is good. Yes? I said well my hair doesn't look like I wanted. I just wanted a few highlights. She said no it looks Cooler than what you wanted. What?!?!?!? Omg I wanted to run. She walked away and the asst said she would have the manager call me. So ivy did. And said to come back. I said I can't do anymore to this hair. Deb even said it then fried it some more. She said she needed to see it. I thought about it and my girlfriend who goes to this salon said at this point your hair will fall out. If they didn't offer your money back and admit defeat they are ridiculous. I turned my car around and called back and said in not treking 25 min out there for what would probably end badly anyway. Scarlett is super attentive to what you want done and cleans everything up without that awkward look of a new haircut. I actually first started going there bc I had gone to Green Tangerine a couple years ago and they didn't have any available times, so I went across the street and they were awesome. I decided to try Green Tangerine right before my wedding and I wish I had just gone back to Victoria's. The girl was really nice, but my nails came out with bubbles on them and the lines weren't straight (French manicure). She tried correcting my ring finger a couple times (for wedding pictures) but I felt bad and after a few tries just said it was ok. I received a gift card from my husband for a facial plus tip. The card said that exactly. When I went to pay, they would not allow me to use the gift card toward the tip. They said the person who sold my husband the gift card had made a mistake and they couldn't do anything about it. I then complained to corporate. Green Tangerine in Canton told them that I had used up the entire gift card amount which is why I couldn't use it toward the tip. This was not true. Once I proved to Canto that I still had $ on the gift card, corporate apologized to me. The manager of Canton location should be apologizing for her attitude and not making good on an employee error. Okay so the people who worked here were lovely and very nice/good customer service! Although I will not be going back here due to the poor gel manicure I got... Right as I left a nail completely ripped off, I went back they fixed it. Not even two hours later another nail peeled off. The next day after that they are all chipped and started peeling off. I honestly think the girl didn't do the process right or its old/dryed out nail polish. Because for $42 dollars they were not very clean looking and had bubbles under my nails immediately after. I've been going to Green Tangerine for about 2 years now. I always see Mackenzie and have even converted a friend of mine to go see Mackenzie as well. I've also had another stylist one time when I had an event and Mackenzie wasn't going to be available. I loved them both. I've always been trepid about hair salons because I've had a lot of bad experiences. One of my best friends is a hair stylist and I thought she was the only one I could trust to do my hair, but she lives in Maine, so it makes things difficult. So I wanted to find a more local hair stylist. Basically the first time I went in I had a vision in my head of what I wanted and Mackenzie brought it to life. Since then I have never looked back and while the prices are a bit high for my budget, I do it anyway because it's worth it to get what I want. I get so many compliments on my hair and I owe it all to Mackenzie. I would 100% recommend this salon to anyone who is looking to get a great haircut/color :) read more

The front desk staff is accommodating and helpful, the atmosphere is much quieter and more relaxing than my previous salon. But most importantly, Amy does a fabulous job on my hair. I bought my wife a gift card since she loves getting massages, and while she said the facility was clean and the massage was good, they have shorted the massage by up to 20 minutes each time she went. She has a massage scheduled for 1pm, I dropped her off at 12:45 and she said had to wait until 1:15 before anyone came. Then it was another 5 minutes while she got changed and then they did a foot soak. She said she was waiting about 15 minutes before they came to get her. The massage ended at 2, so she paid for a full hour and really only got a 1/2 hour massage. Not the best experience when you're sold on a hour long massage and shorted by 1/2. I would recommend going to other facilities as this is the 3rd time she's been shorted. read more

The ONLY reason I come to Green Tangerine is because of my stylist, Deb Darr. I have been with her for years and follow her wherever she goes. She is AWESOME and I always get compliments on my haircut. Strangers will stop and ask who does my hair! Deb is THAT good. The place lacks an understanding of "customer service". From the top down! I don't understand the $3.00 service fee because they certainly don't offer any services. Customers aren't greeted, no one offers to hang up your jacket, offer you a cup of coffee/tea/water. Does anyone know how to smile??? What happened to the reminder call? Without warning, they now send it to your e-mail. Guess what, not everyone checks their personal e-mail everyday! STOP asking for all of my personal info if you're NOT going to use it! The salon also just looks old and tired. In the customer waiting area, the seats are old and appear dirty. The need to replace the dirty upholstered foot stools/tables with a real table or recover the tables they have. They're gross. The sinks weren't even washed out from previous clients! Really?! One would think with all of those service fees the money would be used to spruce up the place. It is also over priced. $68 for a haircut. So what that it's the Farmington Valley. There are cheaper cuts out there. I asked about men's haircuts for my friend, $38!! Are you kidding me! He wanted to know if it came with a lap dance! He's staying with his barber. read more

The Green Tangerine Spa and Salon has lost my business forever. I had my hair cut there once, back in May, and my teenage daughter had her hair cut there once as well. Aside from the price being ridiculously high, they did a decent job both times. So, since it has been four months since my hair was last trimmed, I phoned the Green Tangerine on Saturday and made an appointment for Monday. I explained that I wanted a "quick trim". I received an appointment confirmation email from them a few hours later describing my impending trim as a "wash, cut and style" and allocating a full hour for me. I phoned them again and left a message explaining that I would be bringing my 11-week-old son with me and that since he breastfeeds quite often and on demand, I would probably not have a full hour free and that I simply want my long hair trimmed. I also mentioned that my thirteen year old daughter (one of their clients) would be with me to hold the baby. They returned my call and left me a voicemail in which they promised to eliminate the wash and style part of my appointment and then told me that "The children will have to stay in the waiting area during your appointment. Children are not permitted on the salon floor". Needless to say I cancelled the appointment. Is it too much for me to expect beauty parlors to be places that welcome women? Don't women often have newborns and toddlers with them? read more
