Our first camping trip and I'm so glad it was here! Like other reviews state, it is well maintained, clean bathrooms have running water & there's TP. Barbara goes around cleaning up after checkout so those checking in have a swept area and cleared out fire ring. She cleans the bathroom out and hoses things down so you have the outdoors experience but without feeling uncivilized when it comes to the facilities. We had a great site in the rotunda (see map online) and we can't wait to go back! Tips: - take bug spray (that whole thing I've read that it's not needed is bogus - it's not bad but they're there) - don't bring your own fire wood (rules when you check-in state that you bring bugs that can hurt the trees there so shop locally or chop off wood from the fallen nearby trees in the campground which we found fun) - nearby store, lake, and children's park are convenient and allow for more fun :) - no alcohol sold at stores in town so bring your own or plan on drinking in the 1 restaurant/bar in town - if you're camping for the first time, it may take a day to allow yourself to unwind so maybe add an extra day to your camping trip (we wish we did)... you'll come back to normal life as good as new!

Site #33

Beautiful campground with warm welcoming hosts! Site#33 is amazing with a little stream running behind it. Spacious and shady, it's the perfect tent site. The parking pad is large enough for 1 vehicle only and it's spaced pretty far away from other sites giving it a lot of privacy.

We love this very small but nice little camp ground! Camp lots are narrow with plenty of space. We booked two camp sites and day 3 we had kids from 3 other sites come over playing a game of 5 on 5 soccer. Very quite. The lake is tiny and the hiking trails are fun. You need to try this place out for some peaceful stay. The camp host were also nice.

Nice place to stay, but if you care about taking a bath, do go. There are only toilets. We booked #4 camp site, and that's very privacy with huge ground, it can stayed with 3 families. For the policy, it only can stay with 2 tents for this site, we booked another one, but we all stayed together in the # 4. Kids were having a very good time.

Site #33 was perfect. When we got there we were alerted that a mama and baby bear came down into the sites 2 days before during daylight.

Amazing place! Secluded and no cellular service, which would be peaceful if there wasn't a mama and cub wandering around... no bear traps or lockers. Out site was 33 and I was beautiful. Very green over here and lots of shade.

Great level campground with lots of shade. The site had a picnic table, fire pit with grill, and the restrooms were ok. My kids really enjoyed this campground because of Green Valley lake were you can fish and swim (must pay fee for both activities). Didn't experience any mosquitos in July which was great because those suckers really enjoy my blood. One thing I observed is that this site is directly under the main airplane route to Ontario airport and the noise maybe a turnoff for some. The kids want to come back to this site so we will definitely be back. Lots of pictures posted on the yelp review show a creek which is from Green Valley campground in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and not from this area.

Nice campground and close to a few good hikes. We were in spot 27, not the best campsite that was there, but I liked it! Some of the campsites are close to the road and you can see houses. Short distance to the lake. The bathrooms are well kept and there is a light inside. Lots of bugs but there didnt seem to be mosquitos.

This site has a tree down, but is still private and beautiful

Years later we still camp and fish here at least once a year! My new favorite sites are #17 (flat and big enough for my friends trailer) and #13. Down at the lake we've become friends with George, a local who works for GVL and circles around throughout the day to collect the fishing fee, since it's technically a private lake. Here's a new photo with our buddy George and another buddy I like to call "dinner!" This place is no longer reservable on reserve America, go to recreation.gov instead

A few hikes accessible from camp ground

Very clean sites and bathrooms. Camp host Cindy is very nice and keeps the site well maintained. Saw trash dumpsters a bit full not sure if pick up was delayed due to the holiday. Great place to get away, beautiful and was very peaceful and quiet. A few hikes accessible to camp ground but wished they were marked. Nearby green valley lake (less than 1 mile away) and heaps peak arboretum (12 miles away). Due to covid, swim beach wasn't open. Rental boats for the lake is open certain days of the week only.

Map

Camped at site 16. Not the greatest since this site was very close in proximity to the 2-3 other sites. Lots of overgrown shrubbery and weeds with many mosquitos. (Probably since it's so close to the green valley lake) to the point that campsite appeared unkept. Gotta be careful with overgrown bushes as they make great hiding places for rattlesnakes up there. Camp host was wonderful though. She and her husband who is camp host for crab flats made the trip worth while and was so kind and helpful. We will definitely come back but will probably avoid 16-17 campsites since those are not that great. There are definitely others though that are better in the campground.

Great campground! We had a nice spot, surrounded by trees and the camp host was very helpful. They sell wood bundles for $8. Bathrooms are good, but didn't see/use a shower. Not far from city and looks like a beautiful lake to fish nearby. Close to hiking trails. Will definitely come back!

Site #33, even more room behind tent

You'll definitely want to follow along on the All Trails app. Though keep in mind that cell service is pretty limited on most of the trails around Lake Arrowhead. Parking is pretty limited at the trailhead with tiny parking spaces located on both sides of the main road. So arrive early for the best parking options. We hit the trail going clockwise and felt the burn as we headed up the mountainside. It's listed as "moderate" on the All Trails app but we both felt it edged much more into the "hard" category. There is one section where we literally were scaling the steep trail -- taking 3 steps forward and slipping 2 steps back (or so it felt like!). The trail eventually takes you up to the top where you'll get views of the lowlands below. It's truly beautiful. It's also one of the less popular trails so you won't likely see many people along your trek. After wrapping up your hike, head back to the car and make the side trip to Keller Peak Fire Lookout. During our visit, the lookout tower interior was closed due to COVID-19. But it's still worth making the journey to chat with the lookout ranger and hear what it takes to be a volunteer. In one word: peaceful. Though our ranger volunteer was very chatty. Clearly, he didn't see many people this weekend besides us! It was well worth the journey!

Luckily there is a viewing area, but as a heads up it is near the entrance and not as near to where you tube (but still viewable). I paid for parking ($10) and for one ($25) since my daughter is under 36". I'm glad I didn't have to pay for her specifically because 20-25 min into it she was over it. Your ticket/wristband is timed and per hour. They did check my wristband before I walked out to ensure I didn't overstay/need to charge me an extra prorated amount. I highly recommend coming out for a 1 hr experience. I was nervous that my toddler would be too scared, but she was able to tube solo (she is 2 and about 34").

The fact that some people can be A-holes isn't what bothered me, what bothered me is the incredibly slow and lackadaisical response from the staff. The attendant from the lift was doing her best to separate them while I watched 1 staff member slowly walk over. Second, and this was the most troubling, was the lack of attention to beginner-level skiers on lift 2. My wife took our 6-year-old, first-time skier on to lift 2 while I followed right behind. We both let the attendant know it was his first time on the lift to which she just responded "chase the chair and you'll be fine". As the chair came around I watched my son almost fall off the seat. My wife and I both yelled stop as she pulled him back on. Without even turning to look, the attendant nonchalantly said "he's fine, he was on". When we reached the top of the lift, there was no assistance to help them and they ended up taking a big fall off the chair, both hitting their heads and my wife injuring her tailbone. They stopped the lift just long enough to get them to the side before resuming again. They let us know in the future we should give them a thumbs down on the approach and they'll slow down the lift. It would have been REALLY nice if the attendant at the bottom of the hill had let us know that. As we gathered ourselves on the benches, we watched beginner after beginner fall as soon as the chair pushed them forward. Often times there were 4-5 people on the ground, creating obstacles for other skiers to avoid as they exited the lift. Several times we watched the exiting skiers fall over previous skiers that weren't able to clear the area. All this to say, the concern for safety and level of professionalism left a lot to be desired and we do not plan on returning.
