I searched online and found a local company, Koops Overhead Doors. Koops jumped to the top of my list due to several very positive reviews. I contacted the owner that night and he said he'd come out first thing in the morning. The next day he checked out the issue, which as expected couldn't be fixed because parts were unavailable. He showed me a new system with improved features, which I agreed to purchase. Fortunately, he was able to have an installer do the replacement the next morning. The installer arrived on time the next day and started by removing the old track and wiring. He had the whole new system up and running in under an hour. He programmed the remote, showed me how it worked, and walked me through the features. It's funny to get excited about a garage door opener, but this thing is so quiet compared to my old one, and it has built-in Wi-Fi, motion detection, and a camera that can identify people and animals. Koops is top notch when it comes to customer service and getting back to you. They sell great a product at a reasonable price, and the installation was fast and professional. Highly recommend them!

A quick Google search showed how to manually open the door but it was clear I couldn't live with it that way, so I called Art's number. I expected voicemail, but the man himself answered. I described the problem (a grinding noise with weird tugging/releasing on the drive chain) and he diagnosed it and said he could swing by in the morning. This morning he was here exactly when he said he'd be here, got up on a ladder to point out the problem to me (his diagnosis from my lousy description was absolutely accurate and obvious once he took the unit apart), and he was very honest in saying that because of its age (20+ years) the unit needed replacement. He presented three cost options and I found them to be quite clear and quite fair. He recommended a complete replacement with a Chamberlin system and offered to replace it later in the same day, and we took him up on it. He returned (again, exactly when he said he would be here to the minute), installed the system, and it was a dramatic improvement just as he had promised. We would highly recommend Art for any garage door issue. Having been homeowners for nearly 50 years we know that garage doors are a specialty, and Art's experience and honest business sense made for a very positive experience.

After calling roofing company after roofing company and hearing only…read morethe most unaffordable prices imaginable to fix my roof's ridge vent and some fascia that was falling off, I finally found MIke! I could tell right away that his prices would be reasonable because when I asked him how much he'd charge for repairing the fascia alone, he didn't charge me the $1200 or $2000 minimum that other companies were charging - just to nail back in the fascia! Not only are his prices much, much better, but he's very prompt and great at communicating. He shows up when he says he will. He calls and keeps in contact if he's going to be a little bit later. On top of that, he works with his son, Nick, and their teamwork is impressive to watch! They work extremely well together, they have high standards, and their manner towards each other is so pleasant that it makes the entire experience a very positive one. It was quite a sight to see Mike working on the fascia from the ladder while Nick was simultaneously working on the same piece of fascia while lying on the edge of the roof and holding it in place. They were extremely careful, skillful, good-natured, professional, friendly, and serious about doing a great job. Their work on fixing the fascia was much better than a handyman team that fixed my front fascia a few years ago and left it bumpy and with nails in the front rather than on the underside. They replaced the awful ridge vent I had - 6 inches across - with one that was 14 inches across - a much more intelligent design for keeping wind from blowing rain right into the attic. They matched the color of the vent, as well, to match my green roof! I don't know why the former roofer sold me that awful ridge vent. How can a ridge vent like that keep humidity out of your attic if it's letting in rain? I can't say enough good things about Mike's Roofing. There was not one thing I didn't like about their work and their manner. They were even careful of the wild rabbits in our yard - careful not to drop anything on them. And MIke even cheerfully put up with the jungle of tall shrubs he had to climb through - and prickers - to access the fascia. It feels great to have a solid roof over our heads again and no more leaks coming through our ceiling! Thank you so very much, Mike and Nick!

Throughout the process, there were repeated no-shows and canceled appointments, usually with an excuse for why he couldn't make it. It became very frustrating because I couldn't rely on him to keep scheduled appointments. I paid for slate roof repairs, but the roof still leaks, and slates have continued to fall off after the work was completed. The issues I hired him to fix remain unresolved. After more than a year of trying to get the work corrected, I have decided to pursue the matter in small claims court. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Mike's Roofing Repair and Carpentry.
