We have been selling our gently used and new and never used clothes there. Some of our clothes were from Burberry, Paul Smith, Brooks Brothers, etc. The courteous staff has been efficient. The basic consignment contract is 60% of the selling price to the store. Their pricing experts determine the selling prices of your items. You can park on the street (parking meters for up to two hours) or in the private parking lot nearby. read more

An example: I walked in hoping to find a hat, but walked out with a pair of never worn Sorel Snowboots for my wife at 20% of their regular price. The Greene Street chain just opened a store in Princeton. After seeing friends flock to it and return with bags and bags of clothing, I was excited to check it out this week! I found plenty of cool stuff, but it seemed a little too expensive (considering it's consignment). I'll be keeping my eye on the clearance rack though! read more

Do NOT consign here. They accepted 9 out of 10 items that I gave them. I've consigned before at other places and this is my WORST experience. They are NOT familiar with international designer brands. Contrary to what they tell you, they do not look at prices of comparable items online. A simple google search would have told them what they are really worth. It's really hard to believe that their prices need to be 80% LESS than what they go for on ebay. When I tried to pick up poorly priced items, they just gave me back all my items. And they still give it to you all WRINKLED in a plastic bag. So despite the other comment of improved service, NO CHANGE. As a shopper, there's really nothing to buy here. I always go in because I'm always walking by. And I have never found anything worth buying. If they were better with their consignees, then maybe the quality of their material will improve. I had several other bags of nice stuff that I could give them but I'm definitely going to take it elsewhere. It's definitely worth the extra bit of effort to avoid this place. read more

This is a very cool consignment shop. They have excellent taste, for the most part. On the consignment end, it is really exciting to get rid of nice clothes that are just sitting around at home. They have a careful selection process and it works - all my items sold and I was mailed a cheque within a few months. On the buying end, they have a lot of great finds that are only a few seasons old and designer brands at much more reasonable prices. I haven't really shopped here but I feel enticed every time I come to drop off things. read more

Similar to other reviewers, I found the Greene Street consignment process to be incredibly unpleasant and just not worth the effort. It is not easy to park, nor is it easy to lug in the requisite number of items required to hopefully get to the magically accepted "10." The woman deciding what items the store would accept was incredibly unpleasant. As I walked in, while she was helping the person ahead of me, she turned to me and said, "That jacket is out of season, and we do not want your hangers. Didn't you look at our website?" How about "Hello, how are you? Welcome to our store! I will happily be right with you!" BTW, it was spring, and the jacket was a never worn light blue suede blazer from L'Agence, which I was not about to fold v hang. I had two other similar higher-end blazers, so I asked if that meant she wouldn't look at those either, and she shook her head "Nope." Be prepared to wait because the process does take a bit of time. I was second in line, so my wait was about 20 minutes and then my stuff took about 15 minutes to go through (you cannot leave the store during this process). The woman behind me asked if she could leave her bin to the side and come back in 15, and she was told no, so she left in frustration. I had brought in 17 items, and they accepted 8. Because I didn't get to 10, they acted like they were doing me this huge favor by making an exception to the 10 rule... the truth was though, that my items were mint Coach, Cole Haan, Lululemon etc and they wanted them in their store (btw, all of my items sold well before the claim date). The whole reason I did this process was because I liked the idea of locally recycling quality clothing ... the truth is it would have been significantly more satisfying if I had donated the items to Dress for Success or some other worthy charity....not to mention my tax person pointed out that they write-off for the donation would be fairly close and perhaps even more than the 40% commission I received from Greene Street. I have some luxury items that I have contemplated parting with, and there is no way I would bring them to Greene Street. As a business woman, I understand the importance of cultivating strong relationships not only with customers, but also with current and potential future vendors. At least some of the Greene Street staff does not seem to understand that. read more

STAY AWAY from this place. Green Street not only has a terrible selection (i.e. grungy mass market, tired looking apparel) if you're shopping, but their consignment staff is awful. The particular woman I dealt with behind the consignment counter was terrible. I've never encountered a sales person less inclined for her profession. She was rude, loud, ill-mannered and clueless to the meaning of customer service, going as far to bully many of the store's patrons and cosigners. Bottom line -- don't waste your time at Greene Street -- take your business elsewhere! There any much better consignment shops in Princeton (Jane Street) where you'll be treated with respect and professionalism. read more

I went there few times and I found some really cool dresses. The prices were higher than 40$ But I think if you really really like something you are happy to pay for it. I think if items are used it is a thrift store and if it is a thrift store the prices should be lower. Customer service? There is no customer service. Greene Street is a buyer's dream and a seller's nightmare. I have found a number of vintage and high- end designer items here, from a flowy BCBG dress to my Fendi handbag. I have also consigned with them, only to have several of my things lost, damaged or stolen. The most heartbreaking occasion came when a never- before- worn, new with tags, $300 designer dress that I bought in Korea was literally ripped down the seams by some fat heiffer who thought she could stuff her rolls into my beautiful silk dress. Greene Street, of course, was unapologetic and merely referenced their ridiculous consignor agreement which strips the seller of having any actual rights... read more

If you were thinking of consigning your clothes here - please think again. From the perspective of the consignor, this place is a TOTAL RIPOFF. Let me explain why. When you drop off items for consignment at Greene Street Consignment, they ask you to sign an ABSURD contract. Among many absurd things, the contract says the following: 1. If your items are LOST or STOLEN or MISPLACED or any other mistake is made by Greene Street Consignment (GSC) and you never get them back - they owe you NOTHING. 2. From the moment you hand in your items, GSC becomes the sole arbitrator of their fate. GSC can even decide to DONATE your items, and you have nothing to say about it! 3. You, too, can choose in advance to donate your items if they are not sold. However, the fine print says that "donated" items "are sometimes given to non-charitable shops." That is to say, your "DONATED" items can be SOLD FOR PROFIT. 4. Say that you hand in ten items. They are not reviewed on the spot. One of the store owners reviews them at their leisure, and REJECTS "some or all" of them. You must call the store on ONE SPECIFIC DATE to find out if they rejected any items, otherwise, you LOSE those items. 5. If some or all of the items they accepted are unsold, you have five specific days to pick them up, otherwise they "BECOME SHOP PROPERTY." 6. If you do come to pick up your items on time, you will be forced to look for them on the selling floor, and "STORE EMPLOYEES ARE NOT REQUIRED TO ASSIST YOU IN FINDING THEM." 7. If you do not receive your commission check in the mail - YOU MUST PAY $25 to get a new one. And it goes on and on. My experience with GSC was as follows: I consigned ten items with GSC in Princeton. I had to fly abroad a day after the date they set for picking up my rejected items. Amidst all of my last-minute errands, I made an effort and came to the store. A girl named J.. could not find my rejected items, and asked that I give them a call when I return to the US. I asked her to sign the back of my consignment contract. When I came back, and called the store, they could still not find my items. I was immediately blamed for not coming to pick them up on the assigned date. I pointed out that I did come on the assigned date, and that a friend, who came with me, could attest to that. But it didn't really matter that I was there on the assigned date. The next day, J... called me, and informed me that under the contract I signed, I am not liable for any compensation in case that items are lost. When I picked up my unsold items (only two items were sold), I asked J... what incentive the store has not to lose or misplace items. She said that they hire trustworthy employees. On the way home, I thought to myself: business operates on the principles of interest and law. The customer and the service provider have mutual interests, and the law protects each of them from pursuing their interests unfairly. What GSC are doing is trying to remove all the safeguards that would protect me, their customer, from unfair pursuit of their interest. What the store employee, J..., said in reply to my question is, in effect, that they don't need safeguards, because they are virtuous. How I wish it were true. The truth is that only dictators - those who wish to dictate their will and their interests - would like to remove the safeguards protecting others from abuse. read more

Here's the digs on Greene Street (I worked here for a little while) - If you're willing to search a bit, you'll find some great deals on really nice clothes for good prices - it's not a thrift store, so don't go expecting thrift store prices. It's more like shopping at TJ Maxx or something, except you might find some way cooler deals. Most items are between $8-30. They also have some way overpriced designer items, but apparently, they're killer deals comparatively speaking. Not a great place to consign. The owners don't really care about their consignors or their employees or good customer service. If you really care about your clothes, don't consign here. If you have some good stuff you just want to get rid of and maybe make some money on, give it a whirl. All in all, good place to shop, bad place to consign. Don't expect any real customer service, just nice clothes for a good deal. read more

The items here are extremely high end; only top level designers: think Louis Vuitton, Betsy Johnson, Chanel etc. They have beautiful merchandise ranging from men and women's clothes, jewelry, many hand bags and delectable shoes! I love the store and the prices are very affordable. Customer service could have been much better. I lingered around the sales counter because I had a question and nobody approached me asking if I needed assistance. From other reviews, it seems like this is a great place to purchase, but not to sell items. The salespeople were very snotty. But I would come back again. Might as well be a thrift shop. The quality of the clothing is horrible. I went through some stuff and found most of the designer items to not be authentic. Especially the mens dept. Dolce & Gabanna for $42 dollars with missing buttons and the label misaligned is not sexy. There was absolutely no customer service from anyone at all. as a buyer: this place seemed great when I walked in one day with my mom to look at stuff to buy. I thought since it is Princeton that they would have nicer things which i did find. As a buyer, this place is pretty nice and some of the sales girls are nice. So i thought since i am great with my belongings and take good care of them, some things i may be able to sell at the store. The next week I brought stuff in. As a seller: i brought in some things that are not typical brand names but bought from stores in Manhattan (i live in NYC but visit parents in Princeton) that are more designers from around the world (not known in the US but other countries). The sales girl said they can't be accepted because they are not known brand names, yet most of my things looked much better and newer then some of the stuff in the store. I then brought in some brand name stuff like an LV clutch, Emilio Pucci clutch, coach bags, and some other smaller brand names bags. I bought the LV clutch at the 59th St bloomingdales LV store. The person who authenticated my things said that it was "FAUX". I understand that one can't always tell, but unfortunately, I can tell the difference between a real and fake LV bag. If the person who authenticates in this store can't even tell if it is real or fake, then how can anyone really trust this store to sell real or fake things? When i called them, they had the person who authenticates call me back, she was extremely condescending and rude to me. The sales girl who looked though my bags of clothes and bags to pick out the things that she "thinks" is worth to be consigned was rude and condescending as well. It is as if i wasn't good enough to sell my things there. Unfortunately, they don't know what high end things are or they would have taken most if not all of my things. High end to me are the Chanels, LV's, and brands from other parts of the world that are high end but not well known in the US. High end to them is Banana Republic, Charles David, Forever 21, Coach, etc... so I guess it is really from the eyes of the beholder and their lack of experience in seeing high end things. They probably haven't seen many high end things to begin with so how can these people even authenticate any of them? It is quite embarrassing for them at this point. I mean, i am only selling my things there because i wanted room for new things not because i really needed the money, but at the same time, i am not about to let them downgrade my belongings just because they don't really have an eye for high end things. I will never go back into that store again. My word of advice is, if you are a store trying to sell things, no matter who steps into the store, you should treat them cordially and go out of your way to help. this is just the fundamentals of customer service. Don't bother going in there unless you can walk in with Chanel in order for them to treat you well. You can even wear fake ones as they won't be able to tell what's real or fake. read more

Review is based on consigning and not shopping. I have found that this company varies based on location. The Lambertville & Philly locations are substantially nicer and better in terms of experience. The Princeton location is just awful. The people who work there know very little about fashion, product, pricing or costumer service. If you want to consign with them, be cautious. I have had items that are new with tags "rejected" and returned to me in a damaged condition. read more

As a consigner I am very unhappy with the service (or lack thereof) when bringing items in to consign. Even with a set of Louis Vuitton luggage in my hand I was treated with indifference on my first trip and rudeness the second time. They have some lovely items to buy. I bought a pair of cole haan pointed flats for 7$ last night and they are such a sweet purchase. I love the idea of recycling peoples clothes. i saw a bunch of shirts from free people that were SO cute too.. and I am going back to buy a hat from there as well.. I would avoid this place if you're looking to buy or sell men's clothing. Buying: their selection is extremely limited. There are few items smaller than a Large, and most items are just unflattering pieces from mass produced brands. And the price is usually HIGHER than what they sell for NEW at the chains during sale periods. Long story short: you're unlikely to find anything that fits and even less likely to find any sort of bargain. Selling: they are wildly inconsistent with consignment/pricing decisions, at least when it comes to men's clothes. There was only one guy there who knew anything about menswear--if anyone else was behind the consignment counter, it became clear they had no idea what they were looking at. Some examples of what I've been told: --"These [cheap Levi's, j.crew, etc.] are brands we'll accept], but we can't accept whatever this is [points to high priced menswear designer]" --"I'm sorry, but we don't take 'button-up' jeans, nobody buys those" [referring to a pair of $100+ selvedge jeans with button fly] --"No one would wear this, it's from the wrong season" --"You've ripped the label on this, so we can't sell it" [referring to where the security tag was removed] Not only did they reject my clothing for what seemed like arbitrary reasons, but they were sometimes quite rude about it. But in nearly every instance where someone had rejected quality clothing for one of the reasons above, I returned to the store a second, third, or fourth time until the one guy who knew something about menswear could do the consignment. Once he did, all the items were accepted and sold. But after jumping through all those hoops, it hardly seems worth it, especially considering they underprice designer items (and overprice mass produced j.crew-esque stuff) and you sometimes won't receive your check for like 6 months. read more

I cannot speak as a consignor, as I've never made the attempt to sell here. I do, however, provide frequent cash flow to this place... Greene Street has a couple locations - I've been to the one in Lambertville before, but it was an utter letdown (I guess not surprising as inventory is limited to that supplied by the local folk...I somehow get the feeling that age/cultural vibes were at play). Princeton, however, has a great selection. I come here all the time for work clothes. As a huge fan of the cardigan (read: something that doesn't need ironed), I love that I can get J Crew cashmere cardigans barely worn for like $30. I've gotten several pairs of jeans here, including in-season Sevens with the tags still on them from Nordstrom for $47 and a pair of Joe's in great shape for $18. I'm currently toting around a Kate Spade bag that cost me $24 and before that it was a Michael Kors bag that was around $50. You get the idea...this place is great if you like designer labels but don't like to (or can't) shell out big dough. Do be prepared to have to "sift" a little bit, but if you're willing to put in the time, you will be rewarded. Just an FYI...I'm 99.9% sure this place doesn't do returns. read more

Be prepared to paw through racks and pay substantially more than you would if you went to a thrift store like Goodwill. That's the point, though- this is Princeton, so you're going to get some barely-worn pieces that are really fantastic. There are dressing rooms in the back, free for your use. Service is not great, and they are often understaffed, but as long as you don't need to check out in a huge hurry or need your hand held while you browse, you'll be fine. Fun place to look for clothes. Since they accept more stylish clothes than other consignment stores in this town, this place is definitely more interesting than Jane to me. Also the prices are more reasonable at Greene st, let's not forget we buy used clothes here. Sometimes you can be lucky and find clothes with original tags tho. Employees are very sweet here. Upstairs are men and clearance so bring some time and don't be offended when they don't accept all your brought in items to consign. My experience has been similar to reviews from other sellers. They are extremely picky and inconsistent in terms of what they allow to be consigned. They rejected many of the high end products I had, most of which were in great condition, but accepted clothes that were over 6 years old. The lady helping me said it was because my clothes weren't high end enough for them, however when she listed brands that they would accept (ex Micheal Kors and Guess) I pointed out that I had clothes from those brands in the reject pile. They also didn't accept brands that I know they have accepted in the past because the label design was an older version, even though the clothes were still in great shape. Overall I didn't appreciate being talked down to by the sales associate. I shouldn't have to earn the respect of the people who work there. read more

You can score some good deals here, but it's not a cheap thrift shop. It's a consignment store, so the store and the seller both benefit from selling at high prices. Having said that, I scored some nice Italian made shoes and some Georgio Armani shits for a decent price. They have a good inventory and you will probably find something to buy. Can't blame them for dedicating 95% of the store to women's clothing. If you're a guy you're on 3 racks and maybe 25 feet of hanging space. Same selection from a visit a month or two ago. Not the place for men's clothing. Their other locations are very similar in regards to men's wear. I've never consigned here but I did get lucky enough to shop here. I was in Princeton from out of town and needed a dress, stat. Clothes were neatly hung, in excellent condition, and the place was CLEAN. Shop is organized in a way that makes you feel like you're in a boutique. Staff is also incredibly friendly and helpful. I liked it so much that before I went home I made sure I shopped there again. Glad that they have an online store! read more

There are several things that seriously annoy me about the way this business is run, starting with the impossibility of calling the store and getting a real person to answer. The people who run the consignment section of the store are also just not customer oriented and friendly. The process for getting clothes from consigners onto the floor seems overly complicated to me and it was impossible to understand precisely when I would need to come in to reclaim unsold items. As a shopper, I think the store is so-so. They make a point of accepting down-market brands, but this detracts from the hunt for good quality, affordable clothing. I can buy Old Navy inexpensively enough in the store; I don't want to sort through racks of ON, Limited , Macy's and other ubiquitous brands. I'm preparing another shipment for them but am looking forward to a new consignment store to open in town. read more

Hi, I just want everyone to know what this shop does to its clients. I am the residential director of a summer camp and in charge of three hundred plus gifted students. On our shopping night the counselors take the kids up to shop on Nassau Street. One of the employees grabbed the purse off one of our African American students (the only one in the group), and claimed she was stealing. This young student was the only African American in her group and was singled out. The young students purse literally being ripped from her grasp by the employee. It took her counselor, her mother's phone call, and a picture on her I-phone to get the purse returned. My camp will never be allowed back in this place again. I recommend others stay away as well. read more

Compared to other consignment stores i've been to, this one was spacious, quiet, and pretty organized. There's two floors: clearance upstairs and regular items downstairs. The fitting rooms are just "rooms" with curtains and a mirror. I like browsing through the store whenever i'm in town. I was able to find two shirts here for just $10 altogether. I don't like spending a lot at consignment stores since everything has been used. I suggest checking out the clearance section. Though, some of the clothes they have are very vintage and random. They also have a designer section along with accessories, shoes, etc. I think if you try to sell your items here, they'll give you back 40% which is pretty good compared to Buffalo Exchange. read more

This store is nice to go to as a customer, but not if you want good customer service. The sales girls are rude, act as if you are in their way, and are condescending. Now, if you are consigning your clothing, do not go here! The girls who work there are unbelievably rude, and I could not think of a more unpleasant experience in getting rid of some clothing. My first experience at Green Street Consignment in Princeton was great. That's why I was really relaxed about consigning with them a second time. Good points; the staff is generally friendly 2. the store is run well 3. branding is great and the clothes are presented in a way that they sell. Not your typically second hand store. My second experience was not good. *consigned several items *aware of the 60 contract (and that you have time to pick up your clothes if not sold). *date slipped my mind. *called two weeks after/clothes has been donated. *Shared with NAN I was out of town with a sick family member *received a mini lecture about how it is not Green Streets responsibility to remind a customer about their clothes. *I didn't see it as a responsibility but as a courtesy * to make matters worse the items that sold I still have NOT received a check for. Suggestion for the owner Greene Street Consignment. Your business is growing, as it continues to grow... invest in a email reminder system for you customers NOT as a responsibility but as a COURTESY. Pay as much attention to closing the deal on the client experience as you do beginning it. read more
