    Mac n Cheese

When I first moved to Alameda (2019) I tried their chicken pot pie. Loved it back then. Walking by yesterday we grabbed one along with mac n cheese. The pot pie was runny with not much flavor. Mac n cheese was dry and not much seasoning. Disappointed this time overall. The quality of their food was not as good as I remembered it be?

    Asian chicken salad to go

I love Greens & Grains when I don't feel like cooking and want to eat healthy. They have several salads that I love to eat in rotation. Their steak and blue cheese salad is to die for! It comes with Tri-tip, green beans, potatoes, tomatoes, red onion and radishes and creamy blue cheese dressing. So darn good! Don't be afraid to ask for extra dressing on the side to go. They will definitely accommodate. Their Asian chicken salad is also very yummy as well as their chicken and Cesar kale salads. Their soups are very good as well. They usually have two different options every day, one more on the healthier side and the other more hardy and full of flavor. They also offer prepackaged sandwiches and the chicken salad and tuna salad are solid choices. But lately, I must say their soup game has been off. As of late the soups are a little less healthy. I tried the lasagna soup and it was full of cream and pasta and not in a good way. This great to-go eatery is located inside Alameda Natural Grocery. They don't have a dedicated seating area but there are a few small tables inside near the grocery side of the Market Hall. They can be a bit pricey mostly because use all organic food ingredients. Alameda Natural Grocery has a parking lot with plenty of stalls along with street parking. Open until 8PM everyday except Sunday when they close early at 7pm.

Still consistently great after all these years. Haven't been by as much since cooking much more at home. But I was traveling locally for work - checked the options nearby the Airbnb and then decided I should just get something healthy, simple and pop in the fridge. G&G popped in mind. And now they offer online ordering! How convenient! Just tell them your name. Yes that easy! There was a slight mishap but the owner was around and more than made up for it without my prompting. So impressive. Organic, real food and so filling! The full salad was HUGE and the green goddess dressing just as delectable as I remembered. Every bite of salad had a grain, seed, veggie varietal and a bit of feta in each bite. Their ratios are JUST enough that you get that zip of flavor and texture. I can never replicate their secret formula at home. Rotisserie continues to be one of the best - juicy and seasoned but not salty. What a gem we have on the island - prob one of a handful of food establishments here that don't give me the dreaded phlegm after I eat. If you want to experience a high quality deli - come here, there's a reason why they have flourished for so long and continue to.

Kale Caesar salad with anchovies, macaroni and cheese, the last chicken sandwich of the day
    Kendra F.

This is going to be the Saturday I catch up on reviews, and after trying Greens & Grains today it only makes sense to write what I've tried most recently. It was a day full of errands for me today and near the end of them I ended up in Alameda. It l's been one of those days where I stayed hydrated but hunger hit me like a brick in the stomach around 3pm. I wanted a salad and yelped some salad places nearby. Greens & Grains popped up with plenty of reviews about the kale Caesar salad soo I figured why not. It's about a 7 minute drive from Alameda Landing and it's located inside Alameda Marketplace. I lucked up with parking on the street right by the entrance. I ordered the kale Caesar salad, chicken salad sandwich, and macaroni and cheese. The Mac and cheese was a 1 on a scale of 1-5. Those onions ruined it for me. I'm not used to that. The kale Caesar salad was a 4 for me. I opted to add the anchovies but I'll pass next time. They're just too fishy for me, and I call myself a seafood lover. I also should have asked for them to keep the croutons out of it. The thing is, I hate croutons, but these were manageable because they softened. Croutons add too much crunch to salads in my opinion, buuut overall it was just too many in there for me. So that's my bad. I got the last chicken salad sandwich and it was pretty good. I can tell it's popular based on it being the last one, and i like the leafy greens inside of it. Overall I'd give Greens & Grains a 3.5, but I am interested in trying their vegan curry. Also, the service was pleasant.

    G&G half salad
    Veronica L.

Healthy salad place - great for lunch. You can build your own custom salad or choose from their menu. I got the G&G House salad which has beets and pickled onions. They also have ready made pasta and chicken salad and rotisserie chicken. Wish the line moved faster but the salads are made to order so that means it takes longer. Enjoyed the fresh ingredients and $11.50 was a good price for the half salad which was more than enough for lunch.

    Eunice C.

Food was fine until I found rocks in it.. :( I ordered a G&G House salad, which was great. But a few bites in, my teeth started crunching against something. I figured maybe it's salt or extra hard lentils? So I spat out that mouthful and kept eating. Then halfway through, I ran into these two bits of rocks, and I was kind of mildly horrified. They're definitely grains of rock or sand, and they almost chipped my back teeth. I ended up throwing the rest away. I know that sometimes grit gets into ingredients but this is too much.

Extra protein that I did not order!
    S C.

Extra protein? Did they wash and rinse their veggies? I love their salads but I am not sure if I like anything crawling out of my food. :(

That's why I gave this virtual business a shot via a DoorDash delivery. I was worried it would be a mushy wet mess by the time it made it to my house. But no, it was expectedly wet but preserved quite well. I ordered the $15.90 Chicken Pesto Zoodle which featured their housemade pesto, cherry tomatoes, and a generous amount of diced chicken (photo: https://bit.ly/3kOMXS0). It worked. Just for contrast, I also went for the $7.90 Fried Cauliflower for the crunch and the spicy dipping sauce (photo: https://bit.ly/38YqqiI). This restaurant is actually a cloud kitchen inside the Oakland Food Hall (aka Jingletown Eats) in East Oakland. The other day, I ordered Ground Beef Marinara Zoodle thru the Seamless app. The meal arrived promptly and still hot. However, the soft fiber food container was damp and was leaking a little. But the food looked good, as you can see in my photos. Good amount of beef on top of Zucchini spaghetti. How did it taste? The sauce tastes good. I miss the creamy texture of real spaghetti. Also, the sauce is watery. To be gluten free, I think you can still add more cheese and thicker tomato sauce. Maybe the problem is the veggie noodles don't soak up the extra liquid, and you end up with a pool of watery sauce. Ground Beef Marinara Zoodle, $15.90 Anyway, I like the concept, it fits my dietary needs. I will try other dishes.

As soon as you walk in, you're hit with the smell of a campfire from the oven. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous with an Art Deco design. The ambiance is cozy but elevated. Benedict (buttermilk biscuit, dungeness crab cakes, marinated swiss chard & beet greens, herbed hollandaise, poached eggs & mixed greens): I'm not a huge benedict person because they can feel heavy, but this one was fantastic. I loved the textures and flavors of the crab cakes pairing with the greens and vegetables. It felt balanced and not too creamy or exhausting to eat. It definitely stands out from the run-of-the-mill brunch benedict. Vegetable Hash (roasted sweet potatoes, garnet yams, sunchokes, cauliflower, cremini mushrooms, celery root & onion, savoy spinach & poached eggs): This was also delicious and also set itself apart from the standard brunch hash. I loved the different vegetables in it besides being just potatoes and onions. The mushrooms and root vegetables worked really well together. Everything was well-seasoned. I'm glad we ended up choosing these dishes even though neither were my original top choices (I decided on the menu with my friend). It made me feel like you can choose anything and it'd be a banger. We were quite full from these dishes, and we forget we also ordered beignets to come out last. They were fluffy and mostly air (but not in a bad way). The service throughout the meal was good. We were checked on from time-to-time and our waters were refilled, although I wish the water glasses were a little bigger. One small thing to note was that we were given the check while we were still eating, even though the restaurant was still seating people despite it being close to closing time. Unsure if/why we were rushed like this. Overall, this was a memorable brunch spots I've been to in the Bay (dare I say one of the best?). We left smelling like a campfire. I would recommend it.

I came here last night for a personal event. I told the owner that I was not going to do a review…read moretonight, but he actually stated for me to do one... so here it goes. For the event, we had reserved labels on our tables. The waiter took drink orders, then food orders. I came late and requested to be the last one to place a food and drink order because I did not want to hold the others up. The waiter forgot about me. He never returned. Fortunately, a waitress was bringing something over to a table buddy of mine and I was able to place my order with her. However, I ordered 2 drinks. One was supposed to come immediately after ordering and the other with my food. The waitress said she was going to try to plan the one with my food so it came out together. She forgot about my 1st drink until reminded almost 20 mins later. I ordered my food which was $17.50 sliders with a substitute of fries $2.. and add bacon $2. When my food came, it came with some sort of greens (Arugula salad..I think) and a side of fries. I don't understand why I got salad because I substituted it for fries. My fries came out first, which made no sense because I ordered my food together. However, upon tasting the fries.. they were cold in some parts..smh. I sent them back for hot fries. The sliders seemed overcooked because they were dry. I'm used to sliders being juicy and soft. My sliders were hard...smh. I did not bother to send them back because I was with many people and I really did not feel like going through the motions tonight..as I normally would have of my food order is just wrong. When the bill came, I noticed that they charged me $9 for a large fries. If it was only +2 to substitute... why did I get charge that? I went on and paid it without complaints. There were at least 4 ppl who ordered food before me and they still did not get their food and it was like an hour passing. I had 2 glasses of wine (Malbec & Blanc). Both were good. I loved the fact that they had karaoke. However, I disliked the fact that people who had gone once still went a 2nd time although there were plenty of people who still had not gone a 1st time. I think this place is chill. They need to do better with accomodating larger parties in both a timely manner and effectively ensuring food is correct, hot and cooked to perfection. I think they probably do best with a table of 4 or 5 ppl. Lastly, it was super hot in here. Yes there are ceiling fans. However, it seems that they have no central air whatsoever. That's ridiculous. Oh BTW.. no waiter ever came back to our table to ask if we wanted to order anything more. They also did not come over to ask if the food was good either. Our finshed plates say in front of us from the time we got it until almost 11pm. I would say that my table received food by 8:30ish.

On a lively staycation with family visiting from New York we took them to Spinning Bones, which is…read moreso close to where we live and known for amazing food. We sat outside in their parklet and had the most amazing array of food. I had the salmon salad, which was so fresh, and tasted the rainbow rice and was blown away by the corn fritters. The staff at Spinning Bones were friendly, attentive, and helpful. Highly recommend this place for any meal really!

Been here for a few Father's days cuz my husband loves this place. So far in our visits we've…read moretried: corn fritters, beet salad, St. Louis pork ribs, Trip's Triple, Tsukune Sando, Fried Chicken Sando, Pork Roti, and many of the speciality sodas like POG etc. It's been a solid 5 star place so far, we've only come for special occasions. However last Thur we came for dinner and brought some friends who were excited to try this place for the first time. Beet salad: 5/5 Ribs: 5/5, coleslaw: 1/5 why is the coleslaw not good? It's very soggy and wet and taste old, not crisp and refreshing as it should be... Pls improve the recipe for this... Our to-go order was close to $40, for some ribs and coleslaw, coleslaw did not eat Chicken Sando: 4.5/5 Pork Roti: 3/5 good flavor but pork was chewy and fatty Corn fritters: 4.5/5 Trips Triple: Tri-tip was good 5/5, but not a fan of the chicken 1/5, pork shoulder ok 2/5 would only order the tri-tip again from this combo Service was fine and ambiance cool

Yes!! Try this place and hear's why. Tucked into a small strip in Alameda, this spot is a gem. The…read morespace is beautiful--clean, stylish, and surprisingly calming. Service was quiet but attentive, which made the whole experience feel effortless. The food was the real star. We started with the Brussels sprouts (light, crispy, and perfectly cooked), calamari (well‑seasoned and not heavy at all), and warm biscuits with whipped honey butter--so good. The clam chowder stole the show for us: poured tableside, rich but not heavy, and full of flavor. For entrées, the seafood pasta was fantastic, the lobster rigatoni was delicious (just wished for a bit more lobster), the ribeye was cooked perfectly, and the lamb--while tasty--could've used a touch more time. Overall, this place is an easy 5 stars. Beautiful atmosphere, great service, and memorable food. I'll definitely be back to try the dishes we couldn't get to.

A friend of mine told us about this place so we needed a new place to go so here we are. I made…read morereservations since there was originally going to be 7 of us. I was surprised that I didn't have to hold the reservations with a credit card which was nice. We arrived a few minutes early and waited just a few minutes before our table was ready. As soon as we sat down the hostess asked if we needed any waters. Our waiter Jacob also came around right away to see if we wanted to order any drinks, we ordered the old fashioned, the Mai tai special, and margarita. Drinks came back pretty quick which was good. All the drinks tasted pretty good. For starters we ordered the calamari for the table, fruit salad, clam chowder, and a wedge salad. The calamari came out first, it was cooked perfect, had good flavor to it, the Brussel sprouts mixed with it was tasty, and the lemon sauce that came with it was refreshing. The clam chowder was excellent but it was more like a cup than a bowl. The wedge salad was okay, I've never had eggs in my wedge before, and it could use some better bacon bits or whatever it was for the bits of meat. The fruit salad was great. For our entrees we ordered the Ribeye, the Lamb chops, the Pork chop, the New York or Sirloin, and the Duck Breast. The good thing is that all of the entrees came with sides versus a la cart. The entrees came out after a while which wasn't too bad. It seemed like they only had one waiter taking orders for all the tables. Ribeye, Lamb Chops, Pork Chop Sirloin, and the Duck Breast were cooked perfect, med rare, and great flavor on all the meats. The ribeye was a little tough which was weird since it was cooked perfect., so I don't why that was. All the sides (cream spinach, mashed potatoes, corn, brussel sprouts) were very good. For dessert we shared the Strawberry Shortcake and the Churros. Two great desserts, fluffy bread, tasty strawberries, the sauce was perfect, the churros came out hot, nice crunch to them, and the flavor was great. Overall, a great place to have dinner. The restaurant has plenty of seating. We go all around the bay area and I believe prices are pretty high for drinks, soups, salads, and desserts. We didn't have any Italian food but looking at the menu, they could be just a tad high as well. Our waiter Jacob did a great job.

Review is for the London Bus Burger, Louie Louie (soft-shelled crab) and onion rings! The Bureau 510 gets their burgers right: lightly seasoned, not overly handled so you can feel the wonderful texture along with some major juiciness. Also a big plus is their meat-to-bun ratio so you get a nice bite of burger with the sturdy yet soft bun. The Louie Louie looked amazing. My 2 friends ordered that and devoured. It was lightly battered, not greasy and a nice size. Onion rings were house-made and equally light with a beer batter. Delicious! Staff very welcoming, friendly and checked on us a couple of times. Menu has plenty of options to choose from. The Bureau 510 did a great job (has me craving more!) this visit so will definitely return to try items like the fish and chips, clam chowder and Chef Specials. Pricing is in line with other like places. Plenty of metered street parking. Another location in Emeryville I'll need to check out :)
