The Star is always solid, and I actually haven't been to this location in forever. While in the area for the Downtown Alameda Art & Wine Faire, we wanted to duck into a spot with air conditioning for the family and of course, a yummy sit-down meal. We didn't have a reservation, but we were seated pretty quickly upon walking in. We ordered Caesars, meatballs for the kiddo, a cheese thin crust, and a BYO thin crust with sausage/onion/pepp. We also grabbed some local brews too. There's something about their cornmeal crust I absolutely love. The pizza is light, crispy, and just a nice pie overall :) I didn't know they had lunch specials (personal deep dish or thin crust) and side mixed or Caesar until 3p. They also have a weekly happy hour from 3p-5:30p with cocktail/food/beer and wine discounts. Space is huge and super aesthetically pleasing. I believe the building was once an old bank now converted. I've always known about this spot but finally got the chance to try it last night. We originally planned to go to another pizza place, but the wait was long and they closed early for a Saturday, so we ended up here--and we're so glad we did. Everything from the service to the overall vibe was great. The drinks were well balanced, not too sweet or too strong. The garlic cheese bread was honestly one of the best we've had--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with the perfect amount of cheese and garlic. I adore this location as the building used to be a bank so the interior is great. It's very spacious and the mural is beautiful. It's easy to order to go and not get caught up with indoor dining because it's in the back with its own entrance. We really like the All Star deep dish and always take home leftovers. The sodas are local and it's fun knowing they support local businesses. Lunch or dinner it's fun to come down and afterwards get a coffee across the street or see a movie. Parking I usually don't have an issue finding but there are 2 parking lots a block over. We come here about 1x a month because my parents like the pizzas here. read more

Got a pizza delivered last night and the it was a big disappointment. It was definitely not in the oven long enough- it was floppy and very blonde in color on the bottom. We also got wings, meatballs and a goddess salad. They were meh. Wings were on the burned side and the salad that I used to think was amazing was not. The balls were the only win. This place used to be a go to for me way back in the day but the last couple of times, it's been very underwhelming. Ugh the pizza though. There was soooo much topping - cheese galore which I can't believe I'm criticizing but there was hardly any sauce to balance it out. Flop city. We came with our dogs -- one service animal (vested) and two tiny dogs in bags -- so we requested an outdoor table. We specifically asked about the heater and were told they'd "send someone to turn it on." Later, when our waiter said he didn't know how, I went back to the hostess, and she immediately said, "Oh, they aren't working." So why not just say that from the start? Food: *Caesar salad was cut oddly and overpriced. *Pesto pizza tasted more like spinach -- one of the least flavorful "pesto" pizzas I've had. *Two dirty water cups. *Asked for ice twice and never got it. *Sodas only came after asking twice. Other issues: *One bathroom stall was completely out of toilet paper. *The lock on the handicap stall didn't work. The only standout was The All Star pizza -- that one was actually very good. I've been to The Star many times over the years - most recently taking advantage of their Happy Hour M-F. It's an incredible deal. I typically get a personal sausage pizza and it's delicious. I get the flat crust pizza as I'm not a deep dish fan. My partner gets the salad and deep dish. The quality of the ingredients of their food is outstanding. The quality of their wine is wonderful as well - even their house red. Great selection of craft beers too. The service for HH has always been extremely friendly. We always walk past The Star on our walks down Park St so finally decided to check it out! The inside is super cool - looks like an old converted bank building! Not too many ppl during Saturday lunch, so it was a nice spot to hang out. The lunch special is such a good deal! $11 for your own personal pizza. We had enough for leftovers! It's been a long time since we ate here and decided to try it to see the quality of the food now. Food quality has improved and previous issues we had is no longer an issue. The difference now comes down to the type of crust between Zachary and the Star. It is now personal preference that makes the choice or to have different types of deep dish. Service was on the slow side and part of the issue is that they have a good number of employees there but seems like inefficient assignment leading to server taking a long time to come by from taking order to needing to get drinks refilled. read more

This was my first time trying their deep dish and I have truly been missing out! The flavors were so amazing and they loaded it up with extra roasted garlic! The salad was also really tasty. The inside is really large and they also have outdoor seating which allowed our dog to join. Our server was very friendly and constantly checking on us. Making a reservation for a party of 13 was easy over the phone. I was assured we would have a table upstairs. But after checking in last night at 7:30 pm for the reservation. We were given a table downstairs in front. No big deal. We actually had a party of 12 and a high chair. The service from start to finish was very slow and our server was absent at many times. Our server took about 10 minutes to come by and just take our drink orders. One of the mint tea orders didn't arrive until the food came out. Many of the people in our table got the meal deal. But few of us ordered individual pies specifically the Detroit style bbq chicken and large deep dish all star. Some of us thought the bbq chicken could've more bbq sauce. After getting everyone's order the server didn't return to check on the table to ask if everything tasted ok or if we needed anything else. At about 9 pm the restaurant was emptying out and I looked around and couldn't see any staff on the floor to ask for a check. After finally flagging down the server and asking for the bill. He brought it in a scorching hot glass, it must've just came out of the dishwasher because it was very hot. I wanted to pay but again looked around and server was not around. I walked over to him directly to pay. To my surprise he was at the bar talking to the bartender about a party he went to for New Year's Eve. The disappointing part is paying 18% mandatory gratuity of $50.22 for service that was non existent and lacking throughout. read more

Came here on a busy night and thankfully our party of 2 was seated right away. What did not happen throughout the night was the right away service. We waited on a number of times for staff to get our order, bring our drink (I believe they forgot since I had to ask someone else), and get our check. The food I have always been a fan of and there is always plenty of leftovers if you get the deep-dish. As beautiful as the interior is as some have mentioned the vendor did not do the best job in creating an atmosphere. The dining area looks like a bunch of random scattered tables and chair put together and it is extremely noisy due to the open space. I come to this restaurant once a week, and I'm only giving two stars because the servers are excellent. Diego, the bartender, is awful. Every time I'm there he makes us wait at least 20 minutes before ordering a drink. He acts like he doesn't want the service, which I find confusing because I'm more than willing to give them my business. I love this place-- the detroit style pizza is amazing, but sitting at the bar can be such a downer. I hope things turnaround soon, otherwise for now, I won't be giving them business. read more

One of my favorite stops while in Alameda CA, I love the deep dish pizza. We heard that they have a lunch special so we headed down. The Star on Park is one of the best places to grab pizza in Alameda. All of their food is delicious! I love their salads especially the mixed salad, Greek salad and Cesar salad. Would also recommend ordering their appetizers. Some favorites are the meatballs, Barata toast, and roasted cauliflower. This restaurant has a cool vibe and ambience because it is an old restored bank. The Star is a historical building that the City of Alameda kept some of the original architectural elements which is cool to admire. They have this beautiful elaborate chandelier that provides so much beautiful lighting within the restaurant. Perfect for selfies! The counter where people would go up to do their banking is now the bar that also has flatscreen TVs to watch sports. They also have outdoor seating for those beautiful sunny days to enjoy the nice weather. The staff is friendly and very accommodating and they even have their own dedicated takeout area, which makes it super easy to pick up orders to go. There is lots of street parking but they don't have their dedicated parking spot but their food is so delicious and definitely worth a try next time you're in Alameda and in the mood for pizza and/or Italian food. read more

Star is a favorite when it comes to deep dish pizzas. I would have rated 4-5 stars but there was a customer service hiccup. The staff addressed it and the manager spoke with my table. The pizza was delicious, and crust is definitely a cut above the Zachary's brand. If you order a deep dish or Detroit style pizza it can be up to a 45 minute wait so call in your order or be prepared to try their appetizers while you wait. Went in right at opening and it was perfect as I was the first person to choose where I sat, place is huge with many options of seating. The also had a small section upstairs, maybe for private events which is nice and separate from the rest. I think it used to be a bank back then with all the vaults they had, unless they built it in for the aesthetic but even then it was a really nice touch. Service was great, the server wasnt too over bearing and checking in when you literally are halfway stuffing your mouth (which is great) food came out at a good time as you'd expect when ordering pizza. My friend and I arrived here six minutes before Happy Hour ended at 6 PM. I have been at The Star on the Park several times in the past. For some of my siblings and me, The Star is one of our favorite places to have a freshly made pizza. I like Round Table, but this bar/restaurant has a truly beautiful ambiance. The service was excellent and the waitstaff was attentive to our needs. Kudos to the employees who served us. Eats: My friend had the roasted garlic pizza, Greek Salad and an Arnold Palmer. Me: Mushroom pizza and an Arnold Palmer. I did not have enough room for their roasted cauliflower. A six sliced one topping pizza was $7.00 and the Greek salad was $8.00 during Happy Hour. My friend raved about this place and said the quality of her meal was much better than The Star on Lakeshore Avenue in Oakland. We really like the burrata but the pizza was mediocre, the crust just did not do it for me. We were sat on the upper level, and the food also took more than half an hour to come. Came here for the first time a few weeks back and split a pizza with a friend - I forget what we got exactly, but it was on a thin crust and they let us split two pizza types 50/50, which was nice of them! I also got a Paper Plane cocktail which was... generously poured (not necessarily in a bad way.) The Star on Park is a beautiful piece of historic Alameda. It is a landmark, known for being the location of The First Bank of Alameda (Google it!). The interior has been restored to its former glory; even the original vault exteriors remain (unsure if the vault areas are open). We were a little worried that the one employee working the front who was taking orders, making drinks, bussing tables, and serving food and drinks was going to be too stretched thin to cater to us, but he was a multitasking rockstar. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time (15 minutes or so after ordering), and he was able to wrangle some help from the back to bring the food out. We tried all different types of pizzas: thin crust, deep dish, Detroit style, and their thin crust was a clear winner. This was my first time trying Carbonara pizza, and it was excellent! I also ordered the Caesar salad and love that it came with anchovies - not every place offers them. In addition to the thin crust Carbonara, we also had a thin crust Little Star with fresh and roasted garlic mixed (must try! 5/5), a Detroit style Pesto Chicken, and a deep dish All Star. The wings are a must, too! The Star is part of a family of pizza restaurants scattered around the Bay Area, so it's very likely that you have been to one of their sister restaurants since they've been around for at least a decade. I've seen that they expanded to Oregon, which means they must be doing something right! read more
