As soon as you walk in, you're hit with the smell of a campfire from the oven. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous with an Art Deco design. The ambiance is cozy but elevated. Benedict (buttermilk biscuit, dungeness crab cakes, marinated swiss chard & beet greens, herbed hollandaise, poached eggs & mixed greens): I'm not a huge benedict person because they can feel heavy, but this one was fantastic. I loved the textures and flavors of the crab cakes pairing with the greens and vegetables. It felt balanced and not too creamy or exhausting to eat. It definitely stands out from the run-of-the-mill brunch benedict. Vegetable Hash (roasted sweet potatoes, garnet yams, sunchokes, cauliflower, cremini mushrooms, celery root & onion, savoy spinach & poached eggs): This was also delicious and also set itself apart from the standard brunch hash. I loved the different vegetables in it besides being just potatoes and onions. The mushrooms and root vegetables worked really well together. Everything was well-seasoned. I'm glad we ended up choosing these dishes even though neither were my original top choices (I decided on the menu with my friend). It made me feel like you can choose anything and it'd be a banger. We were quite full from these dishes, and we forget we also ordered beignets to come out last. They were fluffy and mostly air (but not in a bad way). The service throughout the meal was good. We were checked on from time-to-time and our waters were refilled, although I wish the water glasses were a little bigger. One small thing to note was that we were given the check while we were still eating, even though the restaurant was still seating people despite it being close to closing time. Unsure if/why we were rushed like this. Overall, this was a memorable brunch spots I've been to in the Bay (dare I say one of the best?). We left smelling like a campfire. I would recommend it.

Located in the Fruitvale area right next to the BART station, you will need to be mindful of where you park. Since we were here on a Sunday afternoon we were able to utilize the BART lot for free. The interior is bright, simple and open space with several tables. We chose to dine outside under the giant tree covered patio. It's a nice relaxing space, and the owners do a good job of keeping the panhandlers from bothering the diners. The girls running the store on this Sunday were super sweet, attentive and helpful throughout our stay. The four of us shared several dishes and all were really quite good. Everything was very fresh and well prepared. Know before you go... Wahpepah's Kitchen specializes in true native American cuisine. The food is simply prepared, fresh and local which means the menu may change depending upon what is available locally as the seasons change. I love that aspect, and their commitment to sourcing fresh local products. Of all the items we ordered, I personally loved the bison frybread and bison tacos (meat eater here), the mushroom and pumpkin seed mole and the Three Sisters veggie bowl were also great.

We tried: Hibiscus Tacos Bison Meatballs (A personal favorite!) Kickapoo Bison Chili Hibiscus & Corn Silk Tea (So refreshing!) Interestingly, the meal reminded me of flavors from different parts of the world--it's amazing how cooking styles diffuse globally. The frybread has strong similarities to a Cantonese fried dough called ham chim peng (sometimes served plain like this, or stuffed with red or sweet lotus paste). The bison chili also vaguely reminded me of a hearty minestrone soup, albeit with a richer tomato base. Our absolute standouts were the meatballs and the corn silk tea. Definitely a spot worth checking out, just make sure to book ahead! Service was good.

Using the Seamless App, I ordered the Impossible Burger and an order of Tater Tots. Plant B's Impossible Burger is actually pretty good, Grade (4/5). It has a nice balance of flavors and spice. I'm guessing veggie burgers have come a long way since I first tried them 15 yrs ago. Most important, the Impossible Burger doesn't try to be something it's not, it doesn't try to pretend it's red meat. It just tastes good. However, it's a small hamburger. The patty is probably close to a "10:1" patty....aka "10 to 1." That means it takes 10 precooked meat patties to equal 1-lb. Example: a Big Mac uses 10:1 patties. Tater Tots, Grade (4/5). Travels well for delivery. Generous serving. Crispy and soft inside. So, a good meal from a cloud kitchen inside the Oakland Food Hall. Cloud Kitchens have no dining room, and are for delivery or pickup only. Order thru apps or website. Would I order again? Yes, maybe try something else. It's cool to try new concepts in foods.

Nothing special Tater Tots, (3/5): Not very crispy or hot. Tiny ketchup cup. Microwaved? Doesn't seem fresh from a fryer. Chorizo Burrito, (3/5): Big 21-oz burrito for $9.99. Not a bad price for such a heavy burrito. You can make 2 meals out of it. Yes, it has spicy chorizo, eggs, taters, and cheese. But if you want more add-ons, you have to pay more. Service was quiet but attentive, which made the whole experience feel effortless. The food was the real star. We started with the Brussels sprouts (light, crispy, and perfectly cooked), calamari (well‑seasoned and not heavy at all), and warm biscuits with whipped honey butter--so good. The clam chowder stole the show for us: poured tableside, rich but not heavy, and full of flavor. For entrées, the seafood pasta was fantastic, the lobster rigatoni was delicious (just wished for a bit more lobster), the ribeye was cooked perfectly, and the lamb--while tasty--could've used a touch more time. Overall, this place is an easy 5 stars. Beautiful atmosphere, great service, and memorable food. I'll definitely be back to try the dishes we couldn't get to.

Once again we made reservations just to make it easy to get in. The place wasn't that busy as well. The Manager Karina (I believe was her name) sat us down right away. For entrees we ordered the Lamb Chops, the Filet, Seafood Pasta, Pork Scallopini, and the Cheeseburger. Lamb Chops-Cooked Perfect again just like last time. Filet-was also cooked perfect (med rare), the sauce on it tasted fantastic. Seafood Pasta-Noodles cooked al dente, plenty of seafood in it, and the flavor was also great. Pork Scallopini-Mashed Potatoes light and fluffy, the brussel sprouts were different but really good, the pork was cooked perfect as well, very tender and the sauce on it was delicious. Cheeseburger-Cooked med rare which was great, plenty of meat ratio, along with the fixings on it. The fries were awesome. For dessert we had the Banoffee Tart and the Creme Brulee. Both of them were very tasty, light, and delicious. This time they added a %20 tip to the bill which is fine we normally give more than that anyway but it would have been nice to know that the tip was included and since we used a credit card, they added a fee for that which they didn't say anything about that as well. We would definitely be back again.
