The word that comes to mind and best describes Greenstar Eco and Dan Lautenschlager, is AWESOME! We purchased a new build from across the country and faced the difficult task of trying to complete backyard landscaping with no knowledge of desert plants and no prior connections in Arizona. We ran across Greenstar Eco on-line, along with a couple others and decided to meet with all three companies. It was not a difficult choice. One finally came back with a pencil sketched design after we waited about a month, and another came back with a decent design, but was in such a hurry that we were out of breath by the time she left. Then came Dan. He showed up within a week, on time, with a 3-D colored rendering of what he had envisioned for us. He was spot-on with the discussions we had about what we had wanted. He spent as much time as we needed, going through details and small changes, never once making us feel like he had better things to be doing. We put him through his paces. Over the course of the next 3 months or so, we tweaked many things and asked for revisions before ever giving him the go-ahead on the job. Never did we feel that he was impatient with us! He always responded quickly and even provided his cell number so we could get a hold of him immediately, if necessary. He thought the job would take 6 weeks, but the longest we could stay in AZ was 4 weeks, so he made the promise he would get it done. Not only did he keep his promise, but they finished 2 days early! Alberto and his team did excellent work. The masonry and other details were exceptional. They built a beautiful water feature and fire pit, laid a Travertine patio and sidewalk, and extended driveway pavers along the garage as well as a path down the side of the house. Dan himself, took us shopping for plants, turf and stone. We made small changes daily and there were never any complaints. The crew was just as friendly and responsive as Dan. When they were finished, you would never have known they were there, as far as cleanup goes. After the job was completed, Dan got us all set up with phone apps and timers for the decorative lighting, water feature and irrigation so we would have visibility from across the country. A few plants died in the first couple weeks and without us asking, Dan's team showed up with replacements. If you ask us, Greenstar Eco is the full-service way to go for any of your landscaping projects. They did a fantastic job from start to finish. Dan showed up on time, every time. And with my work schedule that's saying something. At times I could only meet him on Saturday morning, and there he was ready to go. He returned every call, email, and text. He took the time to explain everything (I'm a first time home owner so that made me feel good). When he was ready to present the estimate he showed us what the back yard would look like with a nice professional 3D rendering. I was told what day they would start and how long it would take. The workers that showed up were always on time, very respectful, and did a fantastic job. The foreman (Luis), went above and beyond. He noticed that the tree in my front yard was looking shabby, so he let me know a good watering schedule. Luis even fixed a broken drip end and was hand watering my tree every day! Thanks to him I realized that the zone for my tree was never turned on, and I've lived in this house for 13 months! He didn't need to do that, but that speaks to he character of the employees there. The work turned out great! The paver lines are straight and they sit even. It's a very basic back yard and I'm sure a small invoice for them, but I never got the impression that they thought this job was beneath them. I'm not sure how they got such great reviews, but only been a customer for biweekly services for a month and already there's been problems. I'm assuming the high marks are from the reviews from 2020. Some bushes were partially cut, others were not cut at all. Asked about a possible leak and got no update. On top of services not being completed, the communication has been dismal. I tried to call the main office several times for 2 days and I only get voice mail. Left a message and have not received a reply. Heck Yes. First to review. I always forget to review service businesses. It's just not nearly as fun to review as restaurants/bars. But these guys deserve a review. I called them and another company to get a bid on getting my yard cleaned up. It was ridiculous back there. Legit jungle status. The weeds were getting to be as tall as me and the bushes were out of control. I called and spoke to a very friend woman. She sent me an email confirmation and had Scott coming the next day to give me a bid. They were significantly less expensive than the other bid I got (a company I also found on Yelp with FAR MORE reviews than Greenstar). I scheduled for their first available day and they did an amazing job. My backyard is a whole new place and we're on monthly service with them. I wish they had once a month service because my yard is mostly rock and doesn't need to be upkept too much. But their prices are so reasonable. Not only is the customer service great, but they're green too! They take the trimming and yard debris and compost it instead of filling landfills. They have a really simple online payment system too. Great job guys! I'm sure my dogs are happy to have a clean yard to tromp through. read more

Dan and his crew at Greenstar Eco were just amazing remodeling our front yard. When we moved in, our yard was literally the worst looking in the whole neighborhood. The sprinkler system didn't work, so the lawn was dead and practically just dirt. It was overrun with overgrown, ugly bushes. The entrance to front door was tight and cramped. We had three landscape designers come out, and we told each of them our likes, concerns, ideas, and our budget. Each came back a week later, and Dan at Greenstar was chosen for the job for these reasons: 1) Professional presentation. He came in with a 3-D, color design on his IPad vs pencil drawings on paper. 2) Design Ideas. He took the ideas, concerns, etc that we had and tweaked it to make it realistic and affordable. He added his "signature piece" which my wife and I loved, and came in with a walled "grand entrance," which had never considered, but we loved. 3) Attitude. Dan is a very confident person, and believes strongly in his and his crews talent. It came through in the planning and bidding stage, and was later backed up with the end result. 4) Money. Nobody was able to achieve what we were looking for within the budget we were hoping. We were probably unrealistic. However, he gave the best ideas, design, presentation, the works, and was right with the other two in cost. The final project is amazing. His crew took out all bushes, old sprinkler system, old concrete walkway and old turf. They broke down pillar that was RIGHT outside front door and reduced it down to a beam and opened up everything at entrance. Put in mounds, paver walkway, unique plants, and stonework. Now, instead of the worst yard in the neighborhood, we now have the nicest. And it's lit with spotlights! I highly, highly recommend Dan and Greenstar Eco, and can't wait until May when he does the second phase in the back yard for our new resort oasis. read more

UPDATE: After Posting my initial review, Dan and Mary reached out to me, and apologized for the delay in my receiving the quote. Apparently there was some confusion about my email address, and so while they believed I had received the quote, I had not. This could have been handled better with some followup, which they assure me that are now doing. I'm filing this one under YMMV. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I'd like to say I could comment on the quality of the work Greenstar Eco performed but, I wasn't even able to get that far. I put in a request for a quote for a small back yard project, and the following day Mary the office manager scheduled an appointment on a Friday. Dan showed up and verbally told me he'd try to get me the quote by Tuesday or Wednesday. Not a big deal. Well Wednesday night rolled around and no word, so I reached out to Mary to follow up. She got back to me Thursday telling me that Dan's quotes usually take a week, and he would try to get me the quote Friday morning. Obviously if I'm writing this negative review, Friday came and went, and it's now the Following Friday, and I haven't heard anything from Dan or Mary. At this point I've decided to take my work to another company that was able to actually provide me with a quote. read more

Dan did an incredible job designing and installing the backyard in our new home. We provided him with an idea of what we were looking for and he exceeded every expectation that we had for the yard. He simply took the idea and ran with it...the 3D design was incredible and the yard turned out great. The workers for Greenstar were fast, efficient, and cleaned up after themselves along the way. Once the project was completed Dan was extremely responsive and quick to make any adjustments that were necessary. We were so pleased with the results we invited them back to make adjustments to our front yard that had already been completed. They made those adjustments the next day! Two years ago, I had Greenstar Eco complete the back yard of my new build home. Not having been through this before, I relied too heavily on Greenstar. Not very happy with the outcome. In my opinion, I wish we had been given a choice of build levels such as new "seedlings" (which is what we ended up with), or more mature plants. We got to pick the plants, but the nursery is not one I would have chosen, and the plants were pretty anemic. We wanted artificial grass. If you have looked at this, you know there are many types of artificial turf. We were not given a choice and ended up with what I consider to be a cheap, inferior product, that truly looks and feels cheap. Greenstar refused to paint a pony wall they installed around my HVAC unit. I offered to buy the paint, but he told me I could paint it. My biggest complaint is the irrigation system. They tapped into the existing one zone that was in the front yard. So, in order to water the back yard, which has citrus, as well as regular trees, bushes and plants, the sprinklers come on as one unit. Some plants require more or less water, but I have to do that by hand. Overall, I am not very happy with the work done, and would not use them again. read more

I had them remove grass in the front and replace with granite, move a block wall to create an alley on the side of my house, and fix my rear sprinkler system while replacing the sod to get my lawn back. I recently had our backyard landscaped as the dirt yard was too much to deal with, having a dog that dragged it in each time she came in. Our backyard is small and all we knew is that we wanted pavers and artificial turf. Dan came over and suggested some great ideas to really enhance the yard but was low maintance. He even sent us pictures to illustrate his idea, which we really liked. We could visualize how it would look. The crew of workers were all professional. Greenstar Eco did an adequate job the first time the serviced my yard. We have desert landscaping with several bushes, a small patch of grass and fruit trees. After the first visit they barely stayed 20 minutes. Our bushes were not maintained and we had to repeatedly ask them to perform routine yard maintenance. They started coming later in the day and then suddenly 2 weeks ago they stopped showing up. We were given no notice of a delay so we called; the receptionist gave us an excuse that the account manager was sick. It came out later that they were trying to outsource our yard since we are in Avondale. We did not hear back after another week. Needless to say we found another landscaper who does more for us with no need for direction. We have advised Greenstar to stop shopping landscapers to sell our contract to; we no longer require their less than professional service. read more

I just had Greenstar redo my mothers landscaping and they did a great job. She lives in a retirement community and had old lava and white rock, was probably done in the 80's and UGLY. They replaced the old water sysytem, reshaped the drainage, so the trees actually retain the water instead of running down hill, and installed new rock and walkways. Looks like a completely different home and she is delighted. They were fast, very courteous and neat. They listened to what she wanted and came through. My mother is 80 years old and if she isn't happy no one is so thank you Greenstar, she is very happy. I will definitly hire them again. read more

Three stars is giving the benefit of the doubt but really 2.5ish. First I will say the quality of their work was pretty good. I have had them out a few times and never been disappointed in how my place looks after they are there. However, their prices are rather high and they are not especially dependable. I was willing to live with that though as I have a typical low maintenance landscape so I only had them coming out every couple months, but they have recently stopped working with customers that are not on their outrageously expensive monthly plan. When I say outrageously priced, that is based on my landscape which as I said requires about an hour every other month mainly just to cleanup whatever the wind blows in, but still they wanted to charge me over $300 a month (that would have worked out to about $600 an hour). I was paying $250 per visit when they would come out which is more than enough to turn a decent profit. Another review that I read stated that they contract the work out and since I possess the necessary skills to operate the Google search engine and a telephone I will just go ahead and call a company that actually does the work and save myself some money in the mean time. read more
