If you have trees that are begging to be trimmed and laced I highly recommend hiring Greenstone Landcare. They recently trimmed around 30 trees on my property and removed about a half dozen. My one-acre property hasn't enjoyed so much sunshine in many many years. The trees (mostly Goldenrain and Jacaranda are already showing their recovery and will soon have a more appealing umbrella shape. Our arborist, Jorge, was beautiful to watch as he moved through the branches of the trees to cut and trim. It was akin to watching a dancer. This year we hired Greenstone Landcare to do our annual tree thinning along the back of our three townhome HOA. We also had them thin/trim a eucalyptus tree at front of property. Their work is the best annual trim we have experienced in the 9 years that we have lived here. Juan (40 years experience) and his crew did a great job. Ace was extremely polite and all three were professional. They took down a dead pepper tree on a cliff and beautifully trimmed a Jacaranda that hadn't been touched in 60 years. They took down and replaced various tree ornaments and were careful to avoid damaging nearby plants and cleaned up after well. Greenstone removed 4 large eucalyptus trees & a few smaller trees. They cleaned up our overgrown area, chipped the trees into mulch and spread it out for us. They also ground up the stumps and trimmed up several trees. One of the eucalyptus trees had a bad root they found out when they were cutting it down. Thankfully they work safely. They were quick to reply and come out to give a free estimate. Which nowadays is hard to get contractors to reply and show up. Esteban was great with the communication and gave a fair price. I highly recommend GreenStone LandCare! Esteban, Juan, Jorge and the team are absolutely amazing. They spent two days lacing my 50 year old ficus trees (which are massive!), took out some ailing trees, coddled my avocado, and trimmed up my palms. What really impressed me was that I warned them that our owl couple comes back every year to raise their young and that they had nested in the one palm. I asked them to be careful and if they found the nest with owlettes to please stop and leave the palm as is. Sure enough, they found the nest and owlette. They stopped, trimmed up around them and then worked to lace up the remaining fronds to protect the nest from predators. They cleaned up everything and made our yard look amazing. Someone was sent out to do an estimate within two hours of my first phone call. I had a huge black spruce in my backyard that was almost dead, which made it a fire hazard, so it had to be removed. I also asked about trimming back some other trees. They gave me a fair estimate and came to work at my earliest convenience. The crew arrived early to get set up but didn't start their saws until 8:00am. They finished everything in one day, and everything was cleaned up nicely. This is a family operated business, and they kept in touch with me through the whole process. The entire process from beginning to end was very smooth, and I only have good things to say about Greenstone. I would definitely use them again. read more

Greenstone Fencing. From the start I thought 80 dollars a linear foot was steep. It might be me but that is not the problem I have with the contract. The during the quote I had expressed certain concerns like I wanted metal support poles with screws on both sides of the boards. Not just one screw down the middle. There was a existing concrete wall next to the fence that they said they would demo when the fence was removed. After coming home from work the wall was still there. Asked if they were going to remove it and was told it would cost them too much. They would end up charging me 800 more dollars to move it. Meaning they would take it down but leave the concrete there for me to take care of. There was an existing gate that was not in the original estimate. At the time they were building the fence they had said for 2200 more dollars they would put in a new gate. Gate would be lighter than the one I had before. around 20 feet single piece sliding gate. I agreed and told them to put the gate in. As the fence was being put up, they were using staples. I sent a message by text asking about the screws we had discussed. No response till the next day, Was told they used staple because of wood splitting because of screws. Should have told us in the beginning. I would have negotiated for predrilled screws instead. After they finished still no gate. No contract for the gate. Now they are telling me the owner is putting a stop to any further work. The final bill is paid but they charged double the demo fee and they said they would refund that part. Bottom line is that things you express do not get transferred to the finished product. Would make sure it is in writing on your contract otherwise it is not going to happen with this company. I am not happy with the communication. The web site says western cedar fences but they gave me Japanese cedar. Might want to make sure you have what type of wood is being supplied. read more

They went out and removed a tree we had in our front yard that was causing issues to concrete on side of house and our driveway. They did an amazing job, you wouldn't even know there was a tree there and they left the site clean! They also did us the favor of removing some tree stumps that were in our front/side yard. I am appalled that Daniel, the owner himself, made a promise to refund $250 because I was dissatisfied with the gaps this group left under my newly installed fence. There is so much space (which was not there before!) that small animals can slip under it and drown in our pool. I asked why they designed it that way, his answer was to offer the compromise ~~ after adding small stones under the fence, as if could prohibit the creatures from passing under the fence! Plus it looks tacky! But I agreed to the offer of refund since it was impossible for him to remove the fence and start over. I have been kneeling on cement in the heat trying to make the pebbles he brought into a little mini-wall under our new fence. I might have to buy planters or something when I'm finished because it looks so tacky ~ but if I cement under the fence (myself!) at least it will prohibit animals from coming under the fence. Why ~ why would they do that?? Looks so unprofessional. and yes, it was Daniel himself who saw it, and left it, knowing I was dissatisfied.....and made the promise of a refund, which never came despite my gentle reminders, multiple times. He would say, "oh yes, we will deliver that tomorrow!" Nah. He never has. What a rip-off!! read more

I called Greenstone a couple of weeks ago, Monday morning, for a quote about a pepper tree. I was told to call Daniel who handles that sort of thing (I assume). I leave a message, and he finally calls me backTues., leaves a message. I eventually get hold of him on Weds., set up a time for Sat. morning 9:00am. At 9:30, no Daniel, so I call him. At first, he tried to tell me that I hadn't given him my address. I assured him that I had. Then he said he was out bicycling and lost track of time. In other words, he forgot. He shows up after 10am and after discussing options, I decide to have the tree removed. He gives me what I think is a fair quote, said I'd get an email Monday with the official quote and to schedule the removal. No email on Monday. No email on Tuesday. I call Greenstone on Weds. morning and am told they will have him email or call me. No email Weds. No email Thursday. I call back Friday morning and let them I'm going to have to find someone else. And that doesn't even get Daniel to respond. (In retrospect, I think I was talking with an answering service rather than the actual office. Or, at least, whomever I talked to didn't seem to care one way or the other.) Daniel seemed like a really nice guy, so I'm surprised I've never heard from him. If he's the owner, he needs to re-think how he handles customer service. If he's not the owner, the company needs some over sight. read more

We did 6 months of research and planning. We interviewed seven or eight different contractors and decided to go with Greenstone Landcare. Our planning and research was rewarded. Daniel Villapando is the owner. He was knowledgable , helpful with ideas and experience , and easy to work with. His crew was punctual, friendly, and reliable. We completely renovated the backyard , about 1/3 of an acre. We could not be happier.
