It's great to have a healthy choice in Newtown! I went in yesterday and got the "Greens for Life" bottled juice and a bowl of the minestrone soup. I appreciated the "Greens for Life" juice because it wasn't too sweet. They have other bottled juices that are sweeter though - I am looking forward to trying a new one next time. The soup was also delicious - PACKED with all kinds of veggies and beans. (I wished it had a little more salt though;). I would probably go in more often if there were more "meal replacement" smoothies with no juice; for example, something like: avocado, coconut or almond milk, spinach, kale, hemp seeds, protein powder, dates or local honey or banana. I was really hoping this place would be good as there arent many places like it in the area. I got a shake and a bowl and was pretty disappointed in both. They were both very bland. If you're expecting this place to live up to the quality ones on the west coast, you are going to be disappointed as well. The store was also very noisy inside, which was another turn off. I also think they are overpriced for what they give you (small smoothie and a bowl was $20). If you have nothing to compare this place, you might really enjoy it. But if you've been to other places, (especially on the west coast), I'm not sure you will. read more

I love their smoothies and I've turned several of my gym friends onto them but lately they've been using paper straws. These straws are not sturdy and you cannot take more than 5 sips of your $8+ smoothie before the straw gives out having to throw out your drink. It's very disappointing. I ordered an açaí bowl from the menu online. It has granola in it. The menu did not have any warnings that the granola contained walnuts. I have a nut allergy and became very sick. I have never been inside so I don't know if that menu has a warning but please update your online menu. read more

So I came to greenstraw for the first time and I never looked at their menu before. I ordered an acai bowl and banana whips. BOTH with granola. I didn't realize the granola had nuts in it and when it was given to me I saw that and thought I wasted $13. So I talked to one of the women working here super nice. So happy to have an organic smoothie shop in the area! My first visit was a happy one. I love that you can add in ingredients and pick your greens. I would have loved to see avocado on the menu as an add in, and the smoothie was a little on the watery side, but I was happy none the less. I am excited to try an acai bowl next visit. My one slight drawback would be the employees seemed young and unprofessional. We walked in and were the only customers in the store. I bought two juices and a pitya bowl for $31. That's ok for locally sourced juice and normal for a bowl, but I specifically asked if it tastes like banana (it was in the ingredients list). I was told no, it would only be sliced banana and that could be removed. I had it removed, but when I tried it, bananas were very clearly in the mixture itself. This place is AMAZING!!! First of all, they're all about our environment, keeping the earth AND our bodies clean and they make AMAZING smoothies. But what's even BETTER than their smoothies? The Banana Whip!!! Oh my gosh, I could eat that all day, every day. It tastes like banana ice cream...but it's only bananas! They take bananas at their ripe prime, freeze them and then put them through this really neat machine that makes them the consistency of...well...ice cream...or whipped cream. I got it recently with fudge and couldn't even finish it all, and I almost always finish my desserts. While it's under $10, everything is on the more expensive side. But if you think about how much fresh and organic fruits and veggies cost, it does make sense. Anyways...check it out. My favorite was the Tropical Dream. I am THRILLED that Greenstraw is open in Newtown and find myself stopping there almost every time I'm in town. It's super convenient to have a place nearby that sells a variety of healthy options. I've actually lost about 10 lbs since they opened, which I partially contribute to having access to quick & easy healthy food. Personally, I love the juices, but I have also tried a couple smoothies which were very tasty. Since I don't drink dairy, I was happy to see that they use a variety of dairy substitutes like Almond Milk and Coconut Milk. The owner & staff are always super welcoming. I've been to other juice & smoothie bars in the past that act bothered by the more complicated orders but that is never the case at Greenstraw. They're always knowledgable and willing to answer questions about the food. read more

The thing is, when you're charging almost $10 for a smoothie or acai bowl, you've got to make sure your customers are getting their money worth. I take no pleasure in writing this review. I entered the store around 12:30 this past Saturday (6-7) after deciding to give Greenstraw a try vs my usual Smoothie King. When I walked in, my first impression was the absolute BLASTING of the music ( I believe it was The Killers) and the teenage "servers" huddled in a far corner yapping away. I stood there for a good three minutes and was completely ignored. I honestly believe they just couldn't hear me enter the store. I left angered and frustrated. I really love the smoothies at greenstraw, and it is a very clean and nice atmosphere but the employees there are horrendous. I have a banana allergy and every time you try to ask an employee to substitute it for something else they give you a hard time and say they cant make it that way. Today the girl was annoyed i was changing the smoothie for something i cant help and then the young boy that made it was extremely lazy. The girl behind the counter said something to him about banana being in there and to make a new one. The lazy employee was trying to just scoop out the whole banana before he blended it so the older man told him to make a new one because of my allergy ( what if he wasnt there ? The kid would have just made it anyway) . So he made another one without banana and then when i recieved the smoothie it had HUGE chunks in it that i had to chew. There were WHOLE pieces of spinach. If you are going to charge nine dollars for ONE smoothie make sure your employees arent lazy and make it correctly. And be cautious and pay attention when people tell you they have an allergy. read more

Green Straw has the best smoothies I have ever tasted. They are amazing. I have been drinking a smoothie every day for 5 years and have tried many places - Green Straw is by far the best. There is nothing close to it. The banana whips are great as well! I love the fact that they offer wheat grass shots and other fresh juices as well as other healthy snacks and small meals. If I lived closer to Newtown I would be in there every day (probably multiple times). The staff is very friendly and the owners are great (very warm and knowledgeable). Great feel good atmosphere and having wifi is a huge plus. I recommend Green Straw to all my friends especially because it is very kid friendly. This is a super cute location and a great alternative to a fro-yo or coffee shop for spending time, I didn't try the bowls. They looked good, but one woman had to return hers while I was waiting for my order (she found pieces of plastic in her bowl). I did try a smoothie. I found it to be a bit expensive but I knew that going in from reading other reviews. I got the Leo's Favorite. I'll be honest - it was weird. Not super sweet, not very salty from the peanut butter, not very fruity. But it was okay-enough that I'd try a different flavor in the future. I also got a prepackaged juice to take with me. It was kale, celery, ginger, and possibly other things. I have to be honest - that was the worst thing I've ever tasted. It was so bad I spent the rest of my afternoon getting my coworkers to try it just so I could see their faces. It was like one of those videos where babies try lemons for the first time. I didn't even know celery could be that overpowering. How does celery trump ginger?!? It was also just terribly bitter and salty. Overall I felt that this place had a great look and feel but the actual products they were producing weren't up to public consumption. The acai bowls are my favorite thing on the menu. I recommend asking for extra coconut and extra banana. The prices are a little on the higher side than say smoothie king, but you are getting REAL fruit in your smoothie. I really enjoy the smoothies at Greenstraw. My sister has been raving about their smoothies for months since moving to Langhorne - so I knew I had to try me one! I ordered the tres berries verdes green smoothie (I hope I am not butchering that name) - and it was delicious! I know that there are a few people who have commented on the price or wait time, but I would rather pay a little more, wait a little more for great ingredients. I enjoyed my smoothie but it also tasted like something I could easily make at home but it makes sense since it is all natural ingrediants anyway. This review is for the one in ferry market. Sign said they opened up at 9am. Was there at 9:05. Guy didn't even acknowledge my presence. When he finally did he just told me he wasn't quite ready to open yet. No hey give me a couple of minutes or anything. Also had a friend go in 30 minutes before they closed and they refused to serve her cause they already put their stuff away. It's not like it was 5minutes before. I was in a few week ago and ordered a banana whip with my friend. My friends banana whip was fine and mine was old, frozen and tasted like chunks of ice. When i approached the girl up front and told her, she acted as if she knew it was old. The service is very poor and the place very very dirty.
