In the past five to six years, this store has unfortunately gone downhill. Once the standard for Home Depot stores, now it is just a bunch of people pushing the Home Depot card to check out and not letting you check out and get home without signing up for their card. Maybe next time I should lie and say yes. Sometimes I feel like it's a used car sales person trying to pressure an overpriced high interest rate loan when your credit union and bank already given you amazing rates. It is almost like they don't want you to check out without signing up for the card . If it's a five dollar bonus to the employee, I would rather hand them the five dollars and be on my way without interruption. Let me use the points for my airline miles. I love home depot in general. I feel like I can spend hours just browsing the aisles. There are so many projects to choose from, most of which I can't do lol. On this recent visit, I picked up a few rolls of screen and the required tools. After browsing the site, I was a little torn between the "pet" one and the "insect blocking" one and the "Sun protection" one. Since the birds tend to bite through old screen, I definitely needed something strong. I decided to hunt down a Home Depot employee just as a sanity check. The one I came across seemed a little clueless and wasn't very helpful in selecting the one I need. I avoided going to the checkout counters and went straight to self-checkout. I usually rely on their website to locate specific items. It is much easier to find something as long as the correct location is selected. The aisle and bay number will be listed on the site. In the past, it was always hard to find someone to help find something or provide advice for a project. This Home Depot location is nice, but is located in a very busy shopping center. The customer service at this store continues to be unbelievably horrible. Store management should be absolutely ashamed of how this place is run. I actually feel bad for most of the people who work there as they obviously have had little, to no training. No way can corporate know how poor this store is run. The store is close to home but I can't count then number of times I have left this store and drove to Lowes. I kick myself every time I go to this place. I frequent here a lot for my home and arts/crafts needs. I always forget to submit a review for them! Today using their bathroom and noticing how clean it was and how they made their bathroom our of product that they sell in store, I decided today, should be the day for a review! First off DOGS are ALLOWED in Home Depot - even encouraged, which makes this a great stop for our WHOLE family. This neighborhood Home Depot is easy to get to walking and parking. They run clearances, sales and they also honor price matches (which we only found out about during our hardwood installation project needed all these new tools to cut and secure in paneling). The associates at this store at particularly wonderful to speak too. They actually stop and help you and will walk you clear across the store to show you where the product is. They will also share their personal stories of how they did their projects if you ask. They have learning classes (basically demos for various techniques and projects) which you can see online. They are free to go to - they have a kids ones too I can't remember if that charges a small fee for product. We are signed up for the next tiling class - so we can start our backsplash project. This might be my first review ever regarding with Home Depot of South Riding rental department for cashier (Tony). First off his English is very hard to understand which make the renting process takes 20 minutes per customer. Which I believe Home Depot can do better by hiring someone that can do a faster job. If the manager is reading this can you please come check out how slow this department service is? When I arrived there were 2 workers at the register and 3people in front of me. I got in line from the left register. So the guy in front of me is done but he was on the right register. I slowly approached the right register but the couple that is in the right register stopped me and said they were next. In reality there were next in the right register but it is first come first served. I arrived 15 minutes before that couple. I would even wait for that couple if the service is fast. But I know it will be another 20 minutes wait. So I proceeded to the counter. Tony shrugged his shoulders and didn't even tell the couple that it's first come first serve. That really embarrassed me because I was there first but he did not defend me. The whole process was horrible because I could not understand his accent. The only reason why I understood him because I have been renting there so many times and I know what he needed. His tone of voice was not nice. I just wanted to confirm that I am renting a flat bed. But he replied with "That's what I am doing!" In a very mean tone. Basically whatever I asked him or a statement I said he has to make a mean comment. Isn't he in customer service business? If he doesn't want to do this job he can quit. He should not be doing this job. I have rented equipments there so many times and he helped me most of the times and his attitude is the SAME. And when I went back to return the truck. There was a different guy that worked there. He was helping someone with the tools. I waited for like 15 minutes and I waved at someone so they can find someone to help me because I am paying for the time. Finally that guy finished with the other customer. My wait time was 25 minutes that I had to pay extra. WOW! Can you make this rental process be a little quicker? Or hire someone that I can do a quicker job? Rental should not take 20 minutes for one person. This job is not hard I don't know why it takes so long to check in and out for one person? Now on way to that other location to get the item, hoping for the best they actually hold the item at customer service as was discussed by Nick to the other manager at the other location! This Home Depot is a lot bigger than the one in my town. It even has a small greenhouse between the outside plant section and the indoor store itself. I went with the kids dad. He got a hose and a new house air filter. I saw a big stack of sod that I need. Not very expensive. 10 ft rolls. Tons of people inside and outside the store. Today was my first visit at this particular location, simply because I rarely come out this far to South Riding. It seems like this store is new because when I went inside, everything was so clean and organized. I came in with the intion of purchasing a padlock, bit I left with the lock, a paint brush, a wire brush, and a tube of caulk. I could have purchased much more as I am a regular supper of this hardware store chain. I mostly purchase lumber and paint. I did require some assistance from an employee in order to locate locks. He was able to lookup the exact location on his phone and he directed me to the correct isle and bay number. They had a big selection of locks which is what is expected. Final update! 10/22/2020 2 lovely drivers showed up and installed my units despite being told by Will from homedepot.com that they would refuse to do so. The installers then explained to me had I replaced the drain pan to the one up to the mysterious Home Depot standards no one can find me, it would be impossible to install the units as there would not be enough clearance up top to lift the units up and over the lip into the closet. He then explained to me that a lot of the drivers are not experienced W/D install specialists and they were recently hired due to covid and losing their jobs. I am currently enjoying my washer and dryer this weekend before I spend some more time berating the morons at Home Depot who put me through hell for 2 months FOR NO REASON. Looking for a nice compensation. I am also filing formal complaints again Assistant "Manager" Ian Finch, the associate who sold me the units and Forward Air the company who is contracted to install units. Ian Finch has to be one of the most unprofessional people I have ever dealt with. He is rude, condescending, arrogant, and should have thought twice before calling me at 8:40am to antagonize me. I showed up to make a return from a purchase less than a week ago. Christmas lights. I don't work for the factory and could not get them in the box. I have my receipt, packaging and the items. I showed the guy what I wanted to return (after I waited for him to finish his conversation with his team mate). He nodded no to me. I said excuse me?? I got this not even one week ago and have everything. He was more worried about resale. I asked him to speak to a manager and he said "they don't have time to speak to everyone." I've been to this store a few times. Ive always has a poor experience. Today was the worst. I ordered 3 toilets, a faucet and a counter online so that it would be ready to pickup in the morning for my handyman. I'm a 150 lb 44 yr old female and not that strong so this was why I ordered online so it was ready when I got there. Well it wasn't. So they had someone gather the stuff While I waited When they came back they had the wrong counter and were missing 1 toilet. The cashier checked me out and marked that I picked up all items, charging me for the 2 items I didn't. So then he proceeds to refund me..... but only for one item. Then he gets a manager to help and she returns a 2nd item. The price sounded right. But I checked my order online and do you know they refunded the WRONG items??? They refunded the items I actually took home. After that I went around the store and got the missing toilet and bought that on the side. When I got everything I needed, I needed help loading 3 toilets into my car. The man didn't come for a while. They already wasted so much of my time I was now in a hurry. The first toilet - a customer helped me load it. The cashier comes out and said he's still waiting on the helper to help me load the others. I'm sorry, what was wrong with the cashier that he couldn't help me? He was just wandering around looking for a ghost. Irritated at this point, the second toilet I got in the car myself. By the time I attempted loading the 3rd toilet the two men came out. They commented that I did it myself and I said "yah, I'm in a hurry now." I will never go back here. Fairfax. I just moved and had to install a flat screen tv wall mount device. In the 16 yrs of home ownership prior I have never had to use or own a socket wrench. But the instructions called for one. I went to this Home Depot as it is literally across the highway. I stood there and looked at what I know to be a socket wrench but was not labeled socket wrenches. None of them. All labeled sockets and ratchets. So I asked for help as the crowds of CSRs standing around looking at their cell phones, laughing, talking, etc didn't notice me struggling with this. I didn't want to pay $50 or $80 for just one tool either. The guy they sent was rude and talked over the top of me. Long story short after repeating what the instructions manual said several times and handing him the instructions manual (which he refused to look at) he handed me a 3/8 socket head and I got a 1/4 ratchet. I got home to realize it was a 3/8 socket head and didn't fit the required 1/2. So I had to go back. Did I mention it was storming yesterday? Lightning striking the ground? Pouring the rain? Of course they have no 3/8 socket heads. I left the ratchet at home. So I ended up buying a kit of socket heads and a 1/4 in ratchet for $50. The guy who returned the 3/8 socket head for me took about 6 times and moved a register to do it. So I went home and finally got the flat screen wall mount mounted. I returned there (as I decided to just buy dinner given the time I had wasted) to return the individual 1/4 ratchet. Again they were standing around laughing talking in a group. A young woman said she would help me. I handed her the pieces and receipt. I asked her if she needed the card to return it. She said no as she examined the ratchet, the plastic attachment that hangs it on the store hook, and my receipt very intently. She mumbled something that sounded like she was missing a piece--the ratchet. I apologized and said let me go to the car and see if I left it out there. I went back out into the storm. Couldn't find it. I came back in to see she had it when I was about to say I will have to come back a fourth time. She just laughed. I pointed out that she had it in her hand. And she just continued laughing. I got my refund receipt and left. I don't plan to go back to this store. They obviously are not concerned about customer service. And what they are focused on is beyond me. read more

Store is not busy yet waited for 15 minutes in the tool department only to have the tool Dept lead come out and know nothing about the products I'd inquired, nor even where they were in the tool area. After heading to customer service to speak with the manager on duty, the MOD sent someone else out as he didn't want to hear the customer feedback. Shopping here has never been a good experience as far as customer service is concerned. The employees are always rude bordering on disrespectful. But this is the nearest store to me and their goods are decent so I shop here. But recently I had a nasty experience with an employee during check out. He mistook something I said and thought I was going to leave without a receipt. He asked me which country I'm from and when I refused to say, proceeded to tell me "This is not whichever country you come from, you could go to prison if you don't have a receipt." Every time I go to this location, I have to hope and pray the store inventory matches their online inventory, someone in the store knows where something is or a person works within 5 isles of what I'm looking for. Came here to buy wood for shelf and asked to have it cut down to specific size. Ask the lumber associate to cut and said.."this is too big...go to rental and they will hand cut for you".. he had no interest in being helpful and walked away. Went to rental and they shared that they did not hand cut but would be happy to rent equipment to have us cut it ourselves. This irritated us because we can buy wood here but cannot get it cut to size here or have an associate even be invested in providing any customer service. Went to Customer Service to complain and they said "you need to go back to lumber and try again". Very bad customer service today and you wonder why Lowe's gets more business. I would give 0 stars if I could. I placed an online order for in store pick up yesterday. I never got notified it was ready so I used the track my order option on their website. Once I I found out that my order was cancelled 30 minutes after it was placed with ZERO notification to me. I called customer service to ask what happened. They basically had nothing to say and said it would take 3-5 days before they would refund my money. I kindly asked her to make another key for me since the first one just didn't seem to work properly. She proceeded to tell me to just return it because it looked the same as the original key. I told her I will request a return, however needed to just make another key and if that fails again, I don't have an issue returning it. Enormous retail location, and almost always deserted. I'm pretty sure the local contractors are what keeps this place in business. We were looking for suction cups catalogued online as being only available in stores... Yet according to the store inventory, not a single local branch was carrying them. Took us four tries to find someone who knew what they were doing, but he was a gracious fellow about the whole ordeal. Finding someone competent took so long that my coworker caved to her hunger and bought some Swedish Fish placed strategically at the checkout lines. Would love to see more cohesive inventory organization, if not a store directory lookup at the door. Came in to buy a toilet and purchase installation service through Home Depot at a discounted price compared to buying the service directly from the same contractor they use. When I was ready to pay for service, associates seemed baffled by the request and tell me that they can set me up in the system to be contacted by contractor and I can pay later. Figuring this is a new process, I go along with it only to be contacted days layer by USA Plumbing who wanted to charge a premium, $240 for installation and haul away. That was the start of a lengthy painful ordeal for something that should have been very simple. The associate from USA Plumbing indicated that the Chantilly Home Depot has caused this same problem to other people as well. He cancelled the appointment and said to go back to the store and ask for a COS (customer order specialist) and request a PO for the installation service. When I went back I got the same confused look from one of the COSs who had me waiting trying to figure it out for about 30 minutes before she called her supervisor who also spent another 30 minutes trying to figure out the process for placing a purchase order for the toilet installation. The manager was apologetic and promised that I would get a call early in the morning the next day by someone who was better trained with this process. By 10:30 the next day, no call was received so I call and speak to an associate in the kitchen and bath department. They too struggled with this process and had to call me back three times before a transaction was finally completed. Since this was a Friday, I had to wait until Monday to receive a call from USA Plumbers who would arrange the appointment. When they did finally call, they tell me that I didn't purchase a haul away service for old toilet and that if I wanted to purchase it, the appointment would be cancelled and that I had to call Home Depot again to adjust the original PO. By this point I'm obviously fuming since I thought haul away was included as it was not offered as a separate option when I spoke to Home Depot originally. So I call Home Depot in Chantilly again and after two more grueling calls and almost a week after I had originally come in to set up toilet installation, it was finally set up properly. Moral of this story is, if you need toilet installation, don't walk away from Home Depot without having paid for it upfront, or you'll pay for it later...(literally and figuratively). read more

Usually this is my go to spot but today I asked a female associate for assistance on the grill/outdoor aisle. I saw that she was helping a customer with 4 kids in tow, 2 of which were twin infants screaming their heads off crying and their dad standing there looking helpless! Nonetheless I saw the associate headed my way so I asked, "excuse me ma'am, I have a question" she says "WHAT?" To my dismay I turned my face directly to her face and said "is this how you talk to a customer?" She asks "what do you want? I'm helping this customer!" I say, "this is not how you talk to customers, I will get someone else to help me". I'm pissed at this point, folks don't give a damn about customer service anymore! This is a sure fire way to loose a customer permanently!! Mind you, this associate has helped me before in a different occasion. She could have avoided this poor review by simply responding "one minute ma'am, I will help you when I'm finished with this customer!" Or "ma'am, let me get another associate to assist you while I finish up over her!" But to say "WHAT?" Totally unacceptable!! After a few minutes of waiting at the rental counter with no HD employee in sight, I asked a cashier at the pro desk if anyone was working the rentals. This is my hometown hardware store, because South RIding is my hometown. Having said that, we often drive the 7 miles to Fairfax County, enduring 20 minutes of horrendous traffic to go to Lowes. The customer service at Lowes is that much better. Home Depot must have terrible turnover, and even worse training standards. Whenever I have trouble finding anyting and ask for help, I am met with a witless, cluess person with: 1. no idea what I'm looking for 2. no idea where to find it 3. no sense of customer service--as in, don't drag the customer all over the store while you prove 1 & 2 in an attempt to hunt the item down, and 4, no brains by not using the radio on their hip or going to the front of the store to use a computer to look the item up. I finally got smart and refused to follow the witless wonders, and will simply ask them up front: "Do you **KNOW** where (item) is? If not, then get someone who can really help me, because I"m not budging from this spot until you do. I also suffer from rampant invisibility in this store, when an item I need is on a high, out of reach shelf and one after another CS person passes by and will not make eye contact. I am tempted to pull out my "football stadium" whistle to get their attention. Let me say this Home Depot is terrible, except for the paint department. I would rate the paint department at 4 stars if it were it's own store and the rest of the store would get ZERO stars.
