Grandson 1 installing a new faucet.

Saturday morning DIY project with my son and grandsons. Needed plumbing advice from EJ, an excellent staff member. His advice went very well. Phase 1 using 1/2" shark fittings and plumbers grease went well on double sink vanity removal, new faucets install. Phase 2 tomorrow!

I frequent here a lot for my home and arts/crafts needs. I always forget to submit a review for them! Today using their bathroom and noticing how clean it was and how they made their bathroom our of product that they sell in store, I decided today, should be the day for a review! First off DOGS are ALLOWED in Home Depot - even encouraged, which makes this a great stop for our WHOLE family. This neighborhood Home Depot is easy to get to walking and parking. They run clearances, sales and they also honor price matches (which we only found out about during our hardwood installation project needed all these new tools to cut and secure in paneling). The associates at this store at particularly wonderful to speak too. They actually stop and help you and will walk you clear across the store to show you where the product is. They will also share their personal stories of how they did their projects if you ask. They have learning classes (basically demos for various techniques and projects) which you can see online. They are free to go to - they have a kids ones too I can't remember if that charges a small fee for product. We are signed up for the next tiling class - so we can start our backsplash project. This home depot is as good as it gets for us!

Today was my first visit at this particular location, simply because I rarely come out this far to South Riding. It seems like this store is new because when I went inside, everything was so clean and organized. I came in with the intion of purchasing a padlock, bit I left with the lock, a paint brush, a wire brush, and a tube of caulk. I could have purchased much more as I am a regular supper of this hardware store chain. I mostly purchase lumber and paint. I did require some assistance from an employee in order to locate locks. He was able to lookup the exact location on his phone and he directed me to the correct isle and bay number. They had a big selection of locks which is what is expected. I had a pleasant and experience here and I just wanted to write about it.

The delivery man turned around looked at the mess, then promptly left.

Final update! 10/22/2020 2 lovely drivers showed up and installed my units despite being told by Will from homedepot.com that they would refuse to do so. The installers then explained to me had I replaced the drain pan to the one up to the mysterious Home Depot standards no one can find me, it would be impossible to install the units as there would not be enough clearance up top to lift the units up and over the lip into the closet. He then explained to me that a lot of the drivers are not experienced W/D install specialists and they were recently hired due to covid and losing their jobs. I am currently enjoying my washer and dryer this weekend before I spend some more time berating the morons at Home Depot who put me through hell for 2 months FOR NO REASON. Looking for a nice compensation. I am also filing formal complaints again Assistant "Manager" Ian Finch, the associate who sold me the units and Forward Air the company who is contracted to install units. Ian Finch has to be one of the most unprofessional people I have ever dealt with. He is rude, condescending, arrogant, and should have thought twice before calling me at 8:40am to antagonize me. I will tell my story to anyone who will listen. You don't get to screw a consumer and get away with it.

I sometimes come here just to browse what kind of tools I may be missing. Rockler has everything from tiny dowels to thousands-of-dollar heavy equipment. What I usually come here for is to get hardwood and baltic ply. The hardwood selection here is great and it's reasonably priced. Most of them are S4S or S3S so in the worst case, I can use my table saw to rip the unfinished side. You only pay for what you need so you can have them cut a longer piece and not pay for the reminder! That's amazing. Note that they only cut longer wood to fit in your car. Rockler currently does not offer planing or joining services. The guy over there said they are looking into supporting such services soon but as of today, that's not an option. Rockler also has wood-turning and other general woodworking classes. There's a small classroom inside the store itself. If you need anything woodworking, Rockler is it!

I absolutely love Rockler in Fairfax! I thought I'd try something new and took "Woodworking basics…read morefor women" with Sarah in June 2025. I loved everything about it! I then took 11 classes that I've also loved!! Woodworking basics for women (Sarah), Live Edge Epoxy (David L), Shop Safety Woodworking 101 (Bruce), Cabinet making (Bruce), Make a Cherry Wine Box (David L), Build a Bookcase (Bruce), Shaper Origin (David L), Sign making (David L), Woodburning (Sarah), make and take Christmas Ornament (Sarah), and a make and take cheese board class (Mike) ... I'm sure I'm forgetting a class... all within 6 months!! :) The store is clean and staffed with very knowledgeable, patient, and kind people that all share a love of woodworking. I am thankful for all of those that I have met and all that they have taught me.

Sadly, after coming here for so many years - ever since it opened (we were there on opening day),…read morewe are saying "no mas" to the Kensington store. Why? Most would say high prices - but there is a convenience factor, and a safety factor (no sketchy characters in the parking lot - are you paying attention, Home Depot Aspen Hill?), and most importantly, the regular dollars-off coupons, which make the higher prices somewhat more palatable. So lets explore for a moment. Wouldn't you think that after so many years of coming here 2-3 times a week on average (sometimes more, sometimes less), at least someone there - one, maybe more - would recognize us? But it never fails. No hello, no "nice to see you," nothing. Instead, it never fails - one particular cashier NEVER fails to ask, "are you an Ace Rewards member?" Well, let's see - I was here yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that ... and you asked the same question - and I'm wearing the same paint-stained t-shirt - and I just handed you one of your coupons (which are for members only) - so, what do you think? So irritating. But, not the end of the world ... until the final straw. First, I'm in the nuts-and-bolts, serve-yourself isle - been there at least 100 times - and the same fellow (older) walks up and says, "so, do you know how to count up your items and mark them down?" Yes, old timer, I think I can handle that - let me see - four bolts, four washers, four nuts - yup, got it!! Again, not the end of the world - but really, how many times does this guy have to see me ... okay, never mind. Got what I needed and head to the checkout - I have lots and lots of items, about $100 in total. I avoid the "are you an Ace Rewards member" fellow and head to the other cashier. No hello, how are you, etc. She rings up the items and I put down my $10 off coupon - and she says, "that coupon won't work." Her logic - one of the items (and I have many) is "already discounted" by one dollar. So I say, okay, take that item and charge it separately ... she struggles with that a bit, and I still have over $50 and therefore, $10 off. And she says, "that coupon isn't valid because these items aren't discountable." So I say, "which items - all but one are Ace branded items - and where does it say on the back of the coupon that any one specific items here is not discountable?" Of course, the coupon says nothing of the sort - just some vague boilerplate language. After some further back-and-forth, she clearly is incapable of explaining her reasoning and clearly is making up the rules as she goes along. So I say, "tell you what - no sale - and tell the manager that you caused a no-sale of $100 of goods, over made-up rules that you can't explain." Remember, this is over a $10 coupon, which is a 10% discount off already inflated prices. (I also had the lesser $5 off $35 coupon, but - no deal!). I end up going to the big box store (Lowes Gaithersburg) and getting the same items, for much less money than what I would have spent, even if she had granted the discount. In a nutshell - what should be a friendly, local hardware store, where maybe not everyone knows your name but hopefully someone does, is nothing of the sort. Just a high-priced, limited-inventory place that I will avoid - and that, after spending thousands and thousands of dollars at this store over the years. We were so glad when it opened, replacing Hardware City - which was the world's WORST hardware store. But, we suppose the ghosts of poor customer service and overpriced items have not abandoned the building. So - Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice - avoid those ghosts of the past and endure the big boxes. One day maybe we will have a local customer-oriented store - the Bethesda store is somewhat better, but parking is a nightmare - sad to say, but unless it's an absolute emergency, we won't spend another penny in this store - ever.
