The Groundswell team came out, took away the scruffy stuff, and landscaped our entire front yard, planting native California plants and they installed an entirely new irrigation system. Nathan did our initial landscape, including hardscape, drainage, fencing, gates, custom-poured concrete pavers, irrigation, lighting, and an amazing planting plan with a beautiful selection of trees and plants several years ago for our new house. I was so glad he was available recently for a refresh and some additional work. I wouldn't have wanted anyone else! Both times it was a very collaborative process. We shared our ideas with each other and he drew upon his years of education and experience to provide awesome options. Nathan is amazing at design and plant selection. He listened to the types and colors of plants I liked and didn't like. He gave me enough options for plants that I could always select ones that I loved, but not so many that it would be overwhelming. He provided a detailed and specific proposal within a day or 2 of when we met and he kept to that number--there were no surprises or hidden costs down the road. I appreciated how he thought through the work and organized it so it was most cost effective. In our recent refresh, in addition to new plants and a lot of soil amendments and mulch, he and his team built redwood raised beds for vegetables and flowers and made a concrete counter for our BBQ. Nathan was onsite almost every day. If he wasn't here and I had a question he was very easy to contact and quick to respond. His crew was so great as well. They arrived on time, did quality work and cleaned up every day. I would absolutely engage Groundswell Landscaping and Nathan again. After seeing the amazing job he did, multiple neighbors asked me for Nathan's contact info and have since engaged him for work on their landscapes. It's kind of fun to walk down the street and have neighbors I don't even know tell me how beautiful everything looks! Thank you Nathan and team for creating such amazing outdoor spaces for us!

He was the only one who detailed every item involved in the bid, including update of irrigation. I've had issues in the past with bids for other projects that I assumed included the little details but didn't and then I had to pay extra. Michael's bid included every detail in writing that you would assume would be a part of a new lawn job and it was very reasonable. He also showed up on time for the initial appointment! His crew was great! Their work was very detailed and clean. The job was done within three days and all of the work area, including the driveway, was cleaned up. They even noted my falling-apart fence gate so Michael gave me a very reasonable quote and they did a great job fixing it for me. There were a lot of details for after-care and I've texted Michael multiple times to confirm. He texts back quickly and I never get the impression he's annoyed (I've sent a lot of texts!). I almost wish I had more yard renovations so that I could hire him again! I did discuss a whole-yard mulch job and will absolutely hire Michael when I'm ready for that. No more getting multiple bids for future yard renovations. I'll just call Michael.

Our extensive project included driveway removal and replacement, patio reconstruction, construction of steps down to our pool, comprehensive planting with irrigation and lighting, and installation of multiple fences/gates. We took our time evaluating contractors and obtaining multiple bids before selecting Michael. He offered the best combination of price and expertise by a significant margin. During our initial consultation, Michael provided excellent cost-saving suggestions that we ultimately implemented, helping us stay within budget without sacrificing quality. Throughout the project, Michael was exceptionally easy to work with. He was highly responsive and accommodated mid-project design changes without hesitation. His installation team exceeded our expectations--they were professional, friendly, and hardworking. They maintained a clean worksite at the end of each day and were consistently respectful of our property and our need to access it during construction. If you're planning a landscaping project, I highly recommend Pacific Landscaping and Maintenance. We couldn't be more pleased with the quality of their work and the professionalism they demonstrated from start to finish.

I was suffering from a large water leak somewhere on my irrigated hillside but was unable to locate the exact source. I contacted two irrigation repair companies for quotes. The first failed to keep their appointment. However, Olivio showed up for their free on-site inspection in about 30 minutes. From the inspection (with all water disabled at the main) the conclusion was this was not an irrigation leak but likely the water main and I was given an appointment and a time (one, maybe two days work) and cost estimate. Olivio was able to make it a day earlier than scheduled. The team arrived, soon located the actual source of the leak (a 2" main pipe). They dug it up, located a crack in a PVC pipe Tee joint, brought in some upgraded repair parts and installed them with improved pipe pathing around another 2" pipe in the same area. Once the leak was solved we walked around the property and verified everything was working properly. :)

Jose and the team spent essentially the entire day diagnosing and remediating the problem. They performed drain scoping, hydro jetting, extensive root removal, repaired damaged sections of the main drain line with PVC, added new drains/catch basins, restored drainage flow, and repaired/cleaned up the surrounding area afterward. What I appreciated most was that Jose took the time to explain what they were finding throughout the process and helped distinguish between immediate necessary repairs versus larger optional improvements. The amount of root intrusion uncovered was significant, and the team worked extremely hard under difficult conditions. The pricing for the work completed felt fair given the amount of labor, troubleshooting, excavation, and repair involved. I also appreciated that they approached the situation practically rather than trying to oversell unnecessary work. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the professionalism, communication, and quality of work performed and would recommend Olivio for drainage and irrigation-related issues.

After meeting with several high-pressure landscaping companies, working with Dan was a breath of fresh air. Once the project started, we met Hector, the foreman, along with Tito and Marcos. They are hardworking, genuine people who clearly enjoy what they do. Over the two-week project they removed heavy roots, took down a large tree, prepared the ground, installed plants, created a beautiful rock garden, added a sprinkler system and lighting, and repaired and painted the fences. Our backyard was transformed from a messy "jungle" into a neat, beautiful oasis. One thing that really stood out: after the job was technically finished, Dan and his crew came back early the next morning to reposition two 300-plus-pound rocks so everything was exactly how we wanted it. Thank you, Dan, Hector, Tito, and Marcos.

Terrible experience. Our first water bill after their work was 4 times higher than our usual water…read morebill, all due to a leak in the irrigation system for which Patrick (the owner) refused to accept any culpability. The details are as follows: Patrick asked his lead technician, Gregg, to come and do the work. Gregg is very knowledgeable about irrigation systems and water usage, and I was impressed by his diligence in examining every aspect of our irrigation system and explaining the issues to me. They repaired most of the main issues in the first day of work, but some others remained and we agreed that we wanted them to come back and fix the additional issues. They returned a couple of weeks later and finished the work. We walked around the property with Gregg and were satisfied with what they had done. There were a number of issues with the system that Gregg had found and repaired and he walked me through all of them in great detail. We felt the $1200 or so we spent in total was more expensive than our gardener had bid to do the repairs, but that we had learned a great deal about the system and about our water usage. About a month later, we received a water bill that was 4 times higher than our usual bill. From the gallons used, it was clear there had been a huge leak. It was also clear from observing the water meter that the leak had stopped. Patrick and his team determined that the leak had occurred in the two week hiatus between their initial work and their later work. To make a long story short, his judgement was that a rare accident had occurred in a part of the system that had been previously turned off, but which they turned back on and which developed a massive leak in the 2 weeks between when they started and finished their work. The leak happened, he said, because a valve broke and part of it lodged in a pipe downstream, and he has never seen such an event in all his experience. We told Patrick that we understood this may be an unusual event, and we acknowledged that his team had done some good work by finding and fixing many small problems throughout the system. So we asked him to refund us $500 of the $1200 we had paid him. We explained to him that we thought this was a fair resolution. $500 represents only 30% of the $1500 overage that the leak had cost above our historical water bill, and it represents less than 50% of the fees we had paid Blue Watch Dog. But he refused to admit that his team could be culpable at all. Let's face it: problems sometimes occur in the course of ordinary business, and it is often difficult to allocate responsibility accurately. However, in my experience reasonable and professional contractors admit when a problem happens on their watch (especially when that problem, as is the case here, occurred in a part of the system that had been previously turned off), and they are willing to negotiate some refund. One can never prevent unexpected issues from arising, but some people handle these issues more professionally than others. Patrick simply refused to admit any responsibility, and it was no longer worth my time to keep discussing the matter with him. We subsequently ran this by a friend who is a very reputable general contractor with over 25 years experience in the area who said that when he has had issues that occurred during the course of his work (as happens to the best of contractors), he has usually shared the cost at least 50-50 with the client. He also suggested that a more diligent contractor would likely have completely shut off the zone in question until the the repair was complete, eliminating even the very small risk that an "unusual" valve break could lead to a $1500 leak.
