If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I ordered through DoorDash and got the same roll I order all the time. I've never had an issue until today. When my order arrived, the food was cold, which may have been more of a DoorDash issue since the delivery took quite a while. However, the bigger problem was the roll itself. The fish tasted terrible--so bad that I spit it out. I've had this roll many times before and know what it should taste like, and this was definitely not right. On top of that, I was missing a crab rangoon. When I tried to resolve it through DoorDash, they only offered a partial refund, so I called the restaurant directly. The employee I spoke with was argumentative from the start. When I explained that the roll was cold, soggy, and tasted like bad fish, he had excuse after excuse for why it was that way. The reality is that the food was not edible, and I had to spend more money to get something else to eat. As for the missing crab rangoon, he insisted that he personally packed my order and knew it was in the bag. He repeatedly told me he put it in there and suggested the DoorDash driver must have taken it. I told him I didn't care who put it in the bag--the point is that it wasn't in my order when it arrived. Instead of trying to help or make it right, he argued with me and basically accused someone else of stealing it. Mistakes happen, but poor customer service and refusing to take concerns seriously are what earned this review. I won't be ordering from here again. read more

The south door was locked and had to go all the way around. No sign on the door. This is pretty upsetting, especially for this with disabilities. The chicken fried rice was horrible...and for the price insanely ridiculous. We reheated it at home to eat the rest later hoping to make it better. We added sesame oil, egg and chili crisp and it was still flavorless. No smoky flavor, no green onion or any vegetable to speak of. Their wasabi is pretty weak too. They dress up their rolls a lot to make look nice but they don't always taste the best. Grey whale is even better than advertised. The grey whale roll is a wonderful creation. Shrimp tempura, mango, avocado, tuna, tobiko, and whatever that sauce is.....it's sweet, savory, and hits all the satisfying textures at the same time. As good as that is, it is not to be outdone by the vegetable dumplings. Soft, tender, chewy dough goodness. To be perfectly honest, it didn't matter what filling was in these dumplings. Easily the best dumpling dough execution I've ever had. Not exactly what I was thinking I'd find in Lincoln Nebraska. What ever happen land locked states not having the freshest or best seafood? Ate here with a friend on a Monday evening. I got two different rolls, the Cornhusker roll and Scallop tempura rolls as well as calamari, and they got a mixed hibachi as well as crab Rangoon. We had a reservation well in advance as it was a celebration night. We arrived and it was as if we didn't have a reservation, as other walk-up guests were seated before us. The sashimi salad was basically 4 sliced of sashimi (salmon, tuna, yellowtail, whitefish) on top of iceburg lettuce, kinda underwhelming. I ordered the Miso Soup and Autumn Roll next. When the soup was delivered, a weird smell kinda like soap or something came with the soup. When I tried the soup it tasted just like that unappetizing smell. I had one sip and set it aside, worst miso I have ever had, by a long shot. The Autumn Roll was pretty good, I was happy the interior of the roll was poke-like yellowtail, it had good flavor overall. Located in the deep caverns of the Grand Manse building, this casual sushi spot is serving up some decent sushi and food for reasonable prices (esp during happy hour!). We parked on the street, metered parking outside of Hurt's Doughnuts. Sunday is all day happy hour, much like what Hiro88 and Blue Sushi does on Sundays. Our goal was a light lunch since we had 5pm dinner plans - but 3 apps and 4 rolls later (~$55) we were stuffed to the brim. I thought the service was really good considering it was pretty busy at 2pm and there was really only one main server. Food came out at a very reasonable pace. Fish here was fresh, and likely previously frozen. It is Nebraska, after all. The ambience was lacking, and the space felt a little old and outdated, or just too simple without decor in the high ceiling industrial loft type space. Should I tell the story about the tornados that were swirling around as we sat down for dinner at Grey Whale? Perhaps just a bit. We immediately got up from our seats and moved to the inside of the building and returned when the sirens stopped. It took a while for the weather to clear so my friend and I had a wonderful, leisurely three-hour dinner. Thanks to yelp we got six free crab rangoon. The were not extraordinary, but they were tasty with lots of cream cheese. We also got an order of Gyoza, which were quite delicious! Typical appetizers done well. The miso soup, which came with the meal, had an interesting kick to it. I really liked it except... it was luke warm. The soup would have been so much better had it been steaming hot. I ordered the Chef's Sashimi Platter - 15 pieces of absolutely fresh and delicious sashimi. The pieces were generous in size and had me making yummy sounds. When I hear yummy sounds escaping my lips, that's when I know the sashimi is great. Yep... it was. The plum wine was very good and a welcome sip while cowering in fear of the restaurant being blown away. Between the crab rangoon, the gyoza and the sashimi.. I was very pleasantly satisfied. The venue is fascinating, fashioned from what appears to be an old bank. The decor is nothing special, but the food is the bomb! The sushi here is fantastic! I had a three roll sushi lunch, so the rolls were not specialty. The fish was extremely fresh, the rolls weren't overloaded with rice and the fish cuts were generous. I cannot stand when you get sushi that's sliced paper thin and really the only thing you are eating is rice. That was not the case here. Grey Whale sushi is a mid range sushi restaurant in downtown Lincoln. We went for happy hour on Sunday night and tried a variety of rolls. All in all, the Grey Whale is slightly above average in terms of sushi quality. I think the rolls are slightly better than Blue and Hiro but are worse than some of the better sushi restaurants in Omaha (where I live, such as Yoshitomo and Umami). The happy hour prices were reasonable but still higher than Blue. $9ish for a decent roll is still pricey compared to other sushi places. That being said,the flavors were all there. All of the rolls we got were decent and nothing really stood out as amazing or bad. Come to Grey Whale if you want to try different rolls at a reasonable price. Note: Parking is a pain, so keep that in mind. read more
