I had my electric panel replaced. Tim and his crew did a wonderful job. Tim was very thorough every step of the way. He ensured that the new installation of the panel will pass inspection. He arranged a lot of upfront work (e.g. the wiring) to be done beforehand, and then coordinated both the city and PG&E to be present at different times during the day of installation to save time. During the replacement process, we've learned that the previous installation of my AC unit had cut some corners. They have left the wire going into the panel overly exposed, without shielding for a substantial length. We consulted with the AC Company (initialed AT that has a close partnership with Home Depot) that recently installed my AC unit, and they claimed that they do this frequently, and they have passed inspection with that. That, I'm not too sure, but from a civilian standpoint, I suspect that it is a safe thing to do, leaving wire exposed so that rodents can possibly chew on it, if they happen to gain access close to the wire leading up to the panel..... But anyway, Tim came up with a clever solution to work around the problem, and that simply demonstrated Tim's dedication to his high quality work standards. We hired Tim to do a panel replacement and upgrade. First, he came out to give us a quote on a Sunday. Then, his price was 40-50% less than the other two quotes we got for the job, and it was all-inclusive for the permit and appointment, where the others would have tacked on additional fees. He was on time for each appointment we made with him, and completed the work in a single day as promised. Finally, when I discovered at 8:00 the night of the replacement that my stove-top and oven wouldn't turn on, he came out at 8:30 pm to figure it out. It turned out that they had been wired incorrectly when they were installed, and although it wasn't his fault or his responsibility, he switched the wires to correct the problem. Our panel is about 50+ years old. More than one circuits started to behave strangely. They would go out by themselves. Minutes or hours later, they would come back automatically. None of the breaker was ever tripped. Tim came in and gave his diagnose. It is either one phase of the main breaker is bad or one phase of the meter socket is bad. There are two options: fixing the current panel for couple hundred bucks or upgrading to a 200A panel. We decided to take the long term solution. Based on the online reviews, phone conversations and site visit, we picked Grid Electric. Tim's quote is competitive and his skill and workmanship is highly recommended. The permit and inspection will also be taken care. And we are quite happy with the results. As pointed out by other reviewers already, Tim did a nice job on the cable management. There were two electrical conduits mounted on the wall before. He spent the time to take them out and hide the wiring inside the wall. He installed two 8-foot ground rods to provide a path to dissipate a static discharge (such as lightning). One is near the panel and one is near the outdoor faucet in the front yard. The second one needs to be wired through crawl space and garage. An extra ground connector was also installed below the panel for future grounding need like Comcast cable. While we are at it, we also did the wiring for the future electric car charger in the garage. So it will be ready when the time comes. Overall, I found Tim professional and responsive. Tim was very knowledgeable and knew what he was doing. We had him work on our electrical light switches as certain outlets in rooms only worked when the switch is in. (Both the top and bottom outlet) Sometimes a pain as in the kitchen the switch controls the light we have in there. In order to use the outlet, the light has to be on. Wow! Tim and Daniel just finished rewiring 3 bedrooms for me and did a fantastic job! We have had problems with the original aluminum wiring in our house and have been slowing replacing it with copper in phases. Seeing the difference between how Tim has done the rewire and how another electrician has done the same assignment, has been night and day. Tim and Daniel ran the new wires from the panel under the house and down from the attic, compared with the other electrician that just removed sheet rock all the way around the room. The previous electrician (not Grid) left a huge sheet rock mess and it took over a week and a half of additional repairs from another contractor for sheet rock, tape, mud, float, texture and then painting (and more $$$). Tim's prices were competitive and he returned/answered my phone calls. Tim and Daniel were professional, friendly and seem like nice guys. I usually hate having strangers working in my house, but these two were very easy to work with and seem trustworthy. I am pretty sure they do not smoke (not judging smokers, but we have asthma and are very sensitive to smokers). They carpool, so it was nice not having a lot of extra cars at my house. The work sites were cleaned up every day. Tim gave me pictures of concerns he noted in my attic that the previous electrician did wrong, and not trying to upsell me, he encouraged me to contact the previous electrician to have it resolved. Extremely unreliable! I spoke with Grid Electric (not sure if I spoke with Tim or Daniel) two weeks ago. He said he'd come by that week to take a look at what work I needed done at my home and would complete the work the following week. He never came by nor called to let me know he couldn't make it. When I called him the following day he told me he was sick and would call me in a day or two to reschedule. I never received a phone call back. We needed to replace a very old and potentially dangerous electrical panel. I know several electrical contractors who gave me bids but they couldn't do the job within my time frame. I then looked up electrical contractors in my area through Yelp and called four electricians. Tim Ash from Grid Electric was the first to return my call and asked comprehensive questions to determine the scope this job required - I needed everything new from PG&E's line down to the box and in to the house. I compared Grid's electric quote with two other quotes I already had. His quote included all parts, labor and permits; and was less expensive; AND he was willing to come out and look at it right away. I was not comfortable about the current condition of the panel. Tim from Grid Electric immediately responded to my sense of urgency. He jumped on this job right away, got the permit and all the parts in one day. Then, the next day he was here and installed it all. And what a clean professional job he did!. Unfortunately, when I have work done, I am real picky and literally stand watching every move. I worked with Tim for an electric repair and couple of improvements on my house. It was a very good experience. I highly recommend him for both repairs and improvements. Here's my story: Called him at 7:00PM he showed up and kept working on the problem going into the attic, all the receptacles, junction boxes, etc until 10:00PM, couldn't find the problem, he said he'll come back for free the next morning to go in the crawl space and keep searching. He did. After finding the problem ,told me up front what needs to be done, how much it will cost. I added couple of improvements that I wanted to do on the electric circuitry. We negotiated and made a deal. He did a very nice and clean job. No damages to the stucco or sheet rock. Put in some additional circuit breakers, receptacles, lights, and got the job done in time. I hired him for an addition in 2017 and I started looking at his work again because I'm starting a kitchen remodel. He did the rough electrical with no problems and stated to call him when the inspection was done so he can add the outlets and tie into the panel. He was nearly paid in full at this time. I called when inspector was done. He took days to return my call and then stated he was too busy to come over because he has more important jobs. He said he can be there in 3-4 weeks. He acted as if he was doing me a favor by working on my house. After arguing over this for days I hired someone else to finish the job. Then he has the arrogance to come over and ask for the rest of the payment which was a few hundred dollars. He obviously didn't want to finish the job because he had most of the payment. Came to my house, spit on my driveway as he scowled at me asking me for the payment. Never had a contractor that was so arrogant and rude. Don't hire him. He is entitled, rude, and could care less about customer service or satisfaction. Other electricians who've came afterwards for my current project see his work and shake their head in bewilderment. Again, find someone else. I kept the texts that show his arrogance and offensive behavior. read more
