Delicious, fresh, flavorful, and filling. Not too busy on a Tuesday afternoon Strawberry matcha was a great sweet treat to drink on the way home

Obsessed with this little brunch spot! The food is incredible and unique with amazing Indonesian flavors if you're seeking something different from your usual breakfast/brunch. They also have amazing drinks, including matcha and hojicha. The space is very tight and seating is quite limited so that is something to consider on a busy weekend. You order at the counter and wait for your food, although some people did decide to snag a table before they ordered which can affect seating availability too. The staff are great!

FINALLY made it to Griddle and Rice after seeing it all over the place! I came in on an early Friday morning. I literally wanted everything from the menu from breakfast items to their lunch items but alas it was early so I settled for the Supreme Sammy which comes with 2 fried eggs, cheddar cheese, beef bacon, hashbrown, arugula, umami sauce on a beautiful butter brioche bun. I also opted to add a side of homefries + side salad. I ordered the dirty milo to wash it all down which is the milo dinosaur drink but with a shot of expresso. It took a bit for them to cook the food since its made to order but oh man when it came out I was so happy. The sandwich itself was HUGE by the way. Very tasty with every bite. No skimping on ingredients. You can tell this food was made with love :) The hashbrowns had fresh sauteed peppers and onions and the salad was nice and light. I couldnt finish it but even as leftovers it was great. The dirty milo was also very good but not very strong coffee taste. Overall a great breakfast meal. Ill have to come back to try them for lunch/dinner. 5/5 stars!

Highly recommend! The place is a little cramped but we came at the exact right time (before noon ish). The drinks are sooo good, especially the strawberry matcha. The food is also a big portion + really delicious and the price is reasonable.

If only this place was closer to me! I visited on a weekday for lunch after having this place on my list for quite awhile. Walking in, I was hit by a cozy and bustling cafe vibe which was definitely in stark contrast to the chilly quiet outside neighborhood corner. At the counter, I ordered the ayam geprek or smashed chicken rice dish with sambal on the side. For a drink, I got the kopi gula aren. It was quite crowded inside but I was able to find a seat for myself immediately. I felt like by the time I had taken off my coat and gotten settled, my drink was ready, and then my food was quickly ready after that. I've never had smashed fried chicken before, but it was just what I needed. It's what you would think it would be like, and the sambal really gives the dish a nice finish. It was definitely a good portion size. The iced coffee was nice too and not too sweet. I'd definitely come back to try more of their menu!

Such an underrated gem! We had never tried Indonesian food before so were quite excited. The space is small and several diners were sharing tables / space. You order at the counter and then have your order number called out. We got the tiramisu latte (hot), two Fluffy Sammys and shared a plate of Bakwan Sayur (fried veggie fritters). The food was all absolutely lip-smacking - flavorful, hearty, and seasoned to perfection. The sandwiches were some of the best breakfast sandwiches we've had in Philly and the veggie fritters were a surprising favorite for both of us, really crispy and tasty. The tiramisu latte was also one of the best coffees! A bit sweet without being cloying, paired perfectly with the food. We'll be back!

All of the staff were so kind and upbeat, no matter how busy it was. The food came with great portions, especially for the price, and tasted great! The matcha was fantastic, and was the reason I wanted to try here!! They have cute indoor and outdoor seating! I can't wait to come back again.

Interior-- like I said, not too spacious, but good enough for small groups!

Dined in for breakfast on a Friday morning with a large group. Even then, we were able to all seat together by combining nearly all the tables in the space for ourselves. If there were any more people eating in, we would have definitely had to split up, as the seating space is relatively small. We were able to order and get our food quickly! The space has a nice fun vibe, and there's nice energetic music playing the background on an early morning. One of my pet peeves are places where the music doesn't match the mood of the weather, time of day, or type of restaurant. But they were on point here! All the food was fantastic. I ordered the nasi uduk--breakfast rice platter-- and a pistachio latte. One of the people in our group recently came back from a year in Indonesia and he attested to the legitimacy of the food we ate. I don't normally do well with spicy, but I ended up downing all the sambal on this plate-- delicious!

One of my favorite YouTube food guys gave this place a thumbs up so I had to try it. It's *tiny* inside but my friend and I lucked out and got a table. I ordered the chicken congee and it was fabulous--rich chicken flavor with the comforting texture of rice and a ton of chicken meat! Sambal gave it a delicious garlicky kick. My buddy ordered the beef rib plate and it was fabulous, meat falling off the bone and full of flavor. We also ordered chicken skewers which had a delicious peanut sauce. The Sambal sauce is great on everything. We also ordered iced coffees and were pleased with those. Service was prompt and friendly. Will definitely return.

I feel like we need this type of place in every neighbourhood! This place does great breakfast sandwiches, and also Indonesian dishes. I went here with my daughter and ordered Supreme Sammy, Chicken Congee, kopi tubruk, and unsweetened ice black tea. They do not skimp with portion, the supreme Sammy was packed and I was genuinely full 3/4 of the way. Chicken congee was also very good and it is an ultimate comfort food. Unsweetened ice black tea was very nice, and kopi tubruk was strong, but very smooth (it is unfiltered so when you get this you have to let it sit for about 10 min for the coffee ground to sink to the bottom). It is a very small space, we were lucky we got the window counter seats, but there were enough people coming and going for pick ups so it gets kind of crowded.

We went for late brunch today after seeing this place pop up a few times on my feed. We got the smashed chicken with garlic sauce, chicken congee and two matchamisu lattes. Everything was incredibly delicious and flavorful! Limited seating but we got lucky and found a table immediately after we placed our order. Staff was friendly and helpful with suggesting what to order. One thing I noticed is the floor was very dirty and because of my obsessive nature, I was very uncomfortable and constantly checking whether the hem of my jeans or my coat, which was hanging on the chair, wasn't touching the floor. That could be a "me" problem though. I imagine it would be better if the floor was cleaned between seatings but also I understand it would be difficult to do so if they constantly get traffic. I would definitely recommend it though because the food was bomb!

Smash Chicken Rice, Crème Burlee French Toast, Dirty Milo, and Matchamisu.

This is small place with good amount of seating for the crowd- might have to wait a few minutes for the table though. They have outdoor seating as well. Moving on to the food- it was amazinggg! We got the Crème Burlee French Toast and Smash Chicken Rice, both were tasty. This was probably the best French toast I've ever had. Ration of the crème burlee sauce and bread was perfect! The Smash Chicken Rice came with a fried egg and Sambal (spicy chili based sauce)- very flavorful. The portion size was good. For drinks we got Matchamisu and Dirty Milo, both were good! Definitely will go back again.

It is buffet style, so all of the dishes are laid out on a food line and you order at the counter. I highly recommend the Nasi Padang ($14) as it was SO much food and everything was very delicious. The kale was cooked in coconut milk which was aromatic, creamy, and slightly spicy, but still retains that slightly bitter edge. The egg is coated in sambal which is definitely spicy but pairs so well with the rice. The beef was tender and fall apart and the sauce was thick and so flavorful. The chicken was also fall apart soft. The highlight of the dish was getting to eat each component with the coconut rice. The coconut rice is some of the best I've ever had!! It's hard to explain what it tastes like but it's the perfect blend of coconut, salty, sweet, and very savory. I would say it's much more traditional tasting compared to Sky Cafe (another popular Indonesian spot). They take cash/venmo/zelle (I think)! It is incredibly worth it for the price. Definitely want to support a smaller, local business!

They have a pre fix menu mostly (it changes every month), but on Saturdays, they do the giant Liwetan communal eating, which is served on a banana leaf and meant to be eaten with your hands. Let me just start by saying that we are Hardena groupies. I have almost broken my phone screen trying multiple times to get my hands on a #notpizza box during the pandemic. This was the brainchild of Chef Diana at Hardena, and it was truly one of the only bright spots from COVID. Anyway, this is Chef Diana's own restaurant (her family still owns Hardena), and while the flavors and sambal (hot sauce) are very similar to Hardena, she makes Indonesian food truly beautiful with her creativity. The plating is that of a Michelin star / James beard winning restaurant. I mean, just look at this giant dumpling that is shaped so beautifully and then really imaginatively placed inside a red cabbage leaf in a bowl. I'm used to Indonesian food being served from a warming tray in takeout boxes so this really blew my mind. They serve three different sauces (2 sambals and a sweet one). Everything was spectacular, and the dishes keep getting bigger in the 5 course pre fixe (not including dessert, but this was a very nice size). Each dish was explained to us carefully and gently delivered by Chef Diana's wife. There are only about 6 tables so reservations are limited (and you pre pay). They do have a vegan menu, but you have to let them know ahead of time or else they have to scramble (which they graciously did tonight for a walk in). They also gave my mom tea when she asked for it, even though that's not something they normally offer. The interior is super cute and well-decorated, and that pink neon sign really shines nicely through the window. I will have to try to resist temptation every time we pass this (which is often), but I'm already thinking about when we can go back! Don't sleep on Rice & Sambal!

The two of us shared: - stuffed fried tofu 10/10 - scallion egg pancake 11/10 - wow must try! - Nasi tempong with fried fish 10/10 - Nasi Empal fried beef 10/10 Everything is so delicious. Don't be discouraged by the spicy pepper sign next to some of the dishes if you can't handled spice. They serve the chili sambal separately so you can avoid spice if that is the preference. One secret Indonesian sauce I love to use with everything is their "kecap", which is a sweet soy sauce. They have this as condiments on the table and it's delicious with everything especially the two appetizers we ordered. If you haven't had kecap I highly recommend giving the sauce a taste. The fried fish rice platter is soo good! I grew up eating fishes whole so I'm not afraid to pick around for the meat. It's difficult to find places that serve a whole fish and this experience feels nostalgic. I know most people would prefer their fish filleted. My partner also loved his fried beef rice platter. The beef is drenched in aromatic sauce yet a bit crispy. The small beef soup that comes with it is so comforting. You don't want to miss out on this restaurant!
