The atmosphere hits that sweet spot--there's an easy, social hum that makes it perfect for a big table of friends, yet the lighting is gently dim and warm enough that a two-person dinner still feels intimate. Conversations don't get swallowed by noise; you can hear each other without shouting. Menus can sprawl, but this one has range without chaos: plenty to explore, clearly laid out, and a mocktail section that feels thoughtful rather than sugary. Prices are kind to the wallet given the portion sizes. My must-order lineup starts with the scallion pancakes--the clear headliner. The shrimp lo mein is comfort done right: soft, chewy noodles, well-seared shrimp, and a sauce that coats rather than drowns. And a new favorite is the egg custard--silky and softly set, lightly sweet.

A group of 5 of us went on a weekend evening. No wait, service was fast. Very clean. Loved the decor and ambiance. Food was great. We ate family style so we could try a little of everything. A little pricey but did not disappoint.

We went for lunch. They had a lunch menu with many options for $15 each . Our waiters were super cute and I love a drink that is strong enough not to taste like juice. We found parking on the street a block away it was perfect. Their service was fast. Their food came out fast and tasty my favorite was general tsos chicken and my lychee martini loved the plants and the ambience. If I had one complain would be the hostess. I asked to sit in the booth and she said no because it was for larger parties but all the people that were sitting there were only 2 people and we were 3 with child. Also there were 3 empty booths the entire time we were there. Last my guys loved the pool table . If I were visiting university city/chop again I would return . Thanks Dim Sum House!

I ordered takeout via DoorDash. If I ate it fresh inside maybe my experience might have been better. Everything was okay but definitely not delicious. The spare ribs were pretty good but again, nothing substantial. Furama was definitely better flavor wise and provided an adequate amount sauces that complimented the amount of food we ordered.

Spicy Tofu Fish Fillet and Eggplant Garlic Sauce

This spot has one of the best spicy tofu fish fillet I've ever had, and I've had this dish at probably 20 different places. I'd come back just for this dish. We also had the eggplant with garlic sauce, which was delicious but was simply outshined by the fish. Unfortunately I actually did not try any of the dim sum but if it's anything like their dishes, it'll be great. The interior is an interesting combination of a Chinese restaurant with traditional decor, plus a sports bar. The workers are attentive and prompt. I will definitely return when visit Philly again!

We ordered the shrimp and chive dumpling, pork soup dumpling, and pickled garlic cucumber. The pickled garlic cucumber was extremely garlicky--it really hit the nose--and we weren't fans of the type of cucumber used. We're more accustomed to Persian cucumbers in this kind of dish, which might explain our reaction. The pork soup dumpling looked a bit deflated when it arrived, but it still had good flavor and a good amount of soup inside. Unfortunately, we found a strand of hair in the shrimp and chive dumpling. The manager handled it promptly and removed the item from our bill, which we appreciated. That said, the dumpling wrap was noticeably thick and lacking texture. Since they didn't offer a replacement for the shrimp and chive dumplings, we ordered the shrimp and pork siu mai instead--and we're glad we did. It was the highlight of the night: meaty, flavorful, and well-prepared.

Absolute amazing place. Super modern feeling and super clean, way more upscale feel at a very reasonable price. The price on some things are pricey but on others, it's reasonable. The soup dumplings and beef ho fun are a must try as well. Service is great, they are very quick and care to your needs right away. Also comes with free hot tea when you sit down, something no other restaurants do, which is a nice touch.

Great Restaurant! My daughter had eaten here once before. My daughter, son in law, me and wife stopped in after walking around Drexel University. I had one of the lunch specials, General Tso's with fried rice and a bowl of the hot and sour soup. Probably the best hot and sour soup that I've ever had!The sauce had great flavor with a little bite from the dried red peppers. The chicken was tender and juicy. My son in law dried three different types of dumplings and said all of them were great. My wife had the Pad Thai which she loved. My daughter had The Singapore Mei Fun. I tried it and the curry was awesome.

Went in for lunch yesterday and had a great experience. Loved the shrimp sui mai and the dan dan noodles (with chicken). We also ordered the spicy shrimp dimsums (red in color) but didn't like it that much. It wasn't too spicy and the skin was too thick for my liking. All in all a good place to dine in.

My partner and I had a cute date at the Dim Sum House this week. Highly recommend the wonton soup and oolong tea -- really soothed my sore throat! The kung pao chicken was extremely garlicy, not a big fan. However, the waiter was attentive and it all came out to a great price. I will definitely be coming back!

Wanted dim sum but didn't want to drive all the way downtown to Chinatown. The restaurant is on the second floor, but there is an elevator if you can't or don't want to take the stairs. We were seated in a booth and although the ambient noise was loud, it was still easy to hear my dining companions. Everything we ate was delicious. We got the sesame soy brussels at the recommendation of another yelp review and they did not disappoint- they were crispy but not charred tasting and so flavorful. The tofu in black bean sauce was very tasty although difficult to eat neatly so would avoid if you are on a first date or business meal. The shrimp siu mai were gigantic and the shrimp tasted very fresh and with minimal filler involved. The highlight for me though was the beef filled scallion pancake- it was the perfect amount of...well...everything. If we hadn't had so much food already, I probably would have ordered another one! My one regret is that they didn't have the sesame balls filled with red bean paste or the baked bbq pork bun. I don't get out for dim sum often and would have liked these standards. The key as always is to go with a large enough group that you can justify getting lots of tastes!

    Laura P.

Modern dim sum joint with different varieties of Chinese foods including Taiwanese and Cantonese, they serves alcohol as well. Service is good but standard for a chain, it's not traditional but it's good, I have been there a numerous times for different occasions. Would recommend!

Ask the Community - Dim Sum House

Do you serve dim sum on carts or do customers order off a menu?

    Order from a menu

    Is there parking?

    Metered street parking.

Is the dining room quite? I'm looking for a place to have a family dinner where it is quite enough for us all to catch up on our lives.

The dining rooms have moderate noise. It is not too loud to have a conversation, but during busy hours there may be a lot of background chatter.

    Do they have an Elevator?

Yes, they have an elevator right as you walk in downstairs lobby area.

    Do I need a reservation?

Hey Lily, While we don't require reservations, we do encourage them, especially for larger parties…

Do they have a happy hour?

Yes we do! Monday thru Friday from 5-7pm!

Do you they offer dim sum for dinner?

Yes we do! Full menu including dim sum available until 10pm and limited dim sum menu until 1am!

    Are they gluten free friendly?

Yes we are! Our new menu will feature a gluten free section comprised of all of the items on our menu that are gluten free!

    Is it cash only?

    Nope. They take credit cards.

Last time when I visited here around midnight, the restaurant was extremely noisy with very LOUD music playing. Does this happen every midnight? (Except Monday when they close early)

Somewhat, most noisy on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights!

    Is it BYO?

It's not. They have delicious drinks however.

I do prefer the shrimp to be more plump & flavorful, & my favorite ones tend to have sauces other than soy to drizzle on. My trio of items were a steal at barely $20. Nom Wah is an excellent pick for quality dim sum at rock-bottom prices. I arrived early to a mostly-empty restaurant which allowed their staff to be extra attentive. The waiter described what sauces & dishes he was placing on my table, & the waitress offered to fill my water bottle before I left, as it was a 90° day. A lovely first impression!

She did fill my water but I had to ask. And seemed to be somewhat frugal when I asked for extra napkins and only received ONE?!? She did come back later and gave me one additional napkin without being prompted. The biggest advantage for this place is it offered shrimp rolls but there are many other options available nearby.

We ended up having to move another table that had just seated to get our preferred table sizes next to each other, but the staff accommodated it with some back-and-forth. Once we were there, there were carts going around. Enough to be regularly getting food without being too interrupted, but would have liked to have a few more options every once in a while. We also requested some Chinese broccoli early on in the meal, but it came out pretty close to the end. Seems like a la carte orders are not handled in a timely way during dimsum hours. Otherwise, dimsum food is standard quality, as good as expected, but nothing too wow-ing. Solid for the price and the vibes. Food is ok, has certainly decreased in quality after COVID and is more expensive. There are other dim sum places within a few blocks that are much better quality. As others have said, the situation with their staff demanding 15-20% tip has made it so I will not come here again. A tip is not legally required. It is only legally required to cover the cost of your food as stated on the bill. I think the BBB needs to be contacted to investigate their practices surrounding tips and almost harassing customers into paying more than they wish. In addition, they have loud trucks every day disrupting the quiet street behind. Many elderly live there and are woken up by the loud beeping from the truck alarms, as well as trash truck coming VERY early and waking up residents. No consideration for those who live right there. I will be contacting the city about this issue as there was a similar problem in Fishtown and now that restaurant is no longer allowed to have trucks outside of reasonable hours disturbing residents. The trucks are also TOO large to safely turn into their loading station and people park their SUVs making the space even smaller. They constantly case a problem with traffic blockages because of the trucks unable to turn into the loading dock.

I regrettably went on Valentines with my boyfriend after the Barnes. My food was so bad that my mood was negatively impacted (seriously). Stay away from any of the soups/ramens, the broth is exactly the same flavorless base for every soup. I'd stick with appetizers. I got the worst thing I've ever ordered at a restaurant here: Tom Kha Seafood Soup, it was supposed to be spicy but it was just sweet with no flavor at all. Nothing like any other Asian spicy seafood soups I've had before, lacking any normal amount of seafood (hardly any), and weird uncooked veggies, like huge sliced raw tomato bits. I ate the small amount of seafood out of it and left the rest. It was hardly edible. The scallion pancakes were also the most underwhelming I've ever had. I usually fight for the last piece but me and my boyfriend left half of it uneaten. No flavor or crisp. Seemed frozen and reheated, not fresh. The soup dumplings were the only good thing we ordered and they were just fine, nothing amazing. Additionally, there was a very small amount of them to our order. The Vietnamese beef soup was ok but very below average, nothing good that I'd recommend ordering, same bland broth. I really wanted to like this place and I usually never give out one star reviews, but it was truly bad and the ratings on it are clearly inflated and not reflective of its food quality.
