    Eggplant Sandwich
    Sharvani M.

Been here a couple times on weekday mornings - they have a small but mighty selection of food and really good coffee. My husband and I got the roasted eggplant sandwich with goat cheese and mozzarella and a caramel latte to share. The latte was perfection! So creamy and delicious with almond milk substituted. The sandwich was also really tasty, with savory eggplant, tangy cheese, and hearty bread. We actually wanted the miso soup but unfortunately learned that it's made with fish as one of the ingredients. I came here again with a colleague and enjoyed coffee and the sandwich for lunch. Definitely recommend a visit for their seasonal coffees and a yummy, light lunch on a weekday if you can swing it.

I'd been here for coffee to go many times (yay coffee punch cards) but I didn't know about the sit down food service until this week when I went to lunch with friends. The ambiance is so nice with the big open atrium spacing but it's tucked away in the corner so it also has a cozy feel. I got the butternut squash soup and the roasted Caesar salad - both of which were really delicious!!

I have overlooked many places in my time as a Philadelphian but none so egregious as my overlooking of Vernick Coffee Bar. Hello remote workers? I've found you paradise! As someone who spends her work days inside her home with only her dog for company, stepping inside the Comcast building and pretending to be a corporate hottie going up the escalator to work was...so fun. I had a meeting nearby and was planning to hit Pilates in the afternoon, so Vernick provided the perfect getaway to send some emails and get some work done in between. Enter the Comcast lobby on 18th between Arch and Cuthbert. The security staff here is SO amazing and friendly, so ask them if you need help with anything. Simply walk straight ahead to the escalator and the coffee bar will be immediately to your right on the next floor. There's a couch area, communal tables, a bar, and tables at the back as well. Plenty of spots to post up! I was immediately gobsmacked by the pastry case. Beautiful breads, croissants, scones, cookies, and more. Since I was on the hunt for something satiating, I went for the overnight oats that were in the fridge area. This might be the most delicious breakfast I've had in Philadelphia, and I wish I was kidding. I have been day dreaming of these overnight oats and the granola they use for DAYS! Loaded with apples, berries, nuts, and seriously the best granola I've ever tasted. The coffee drinks all looked and smelled amazing and I will be going here for every remote meeting I have moving forward. Thanks for a great experience!

This little cafe is hidden away on the second floor of the Comcast Technology Center. It has a counter for take away and also seating with table service. It overlooks the first floor of the Comcast center. It's peaceful with a lot of greenery. We did take away and sat at the seating area. We put in our order and one of the servers brought it to our table the staff were very nice Split pea soup was delicious. The toaster bread was also good. The bread had an additional charge the chocolate chip cookie lives up to the hype. My friend had the yogurt parfait, which was also very good. The croissant had a nice crisp outside and a flaky inside. It's a nice place to stop for a morning cup of coffee or tea and pastry or for a quick lunch

Great place to take a break. It's on the mezzanine of Comcast Tower 2. Very nice atmosphere, verything is yummy, and the service is great! Highly recommend!

I had a standard latte and the coffee cake slice. The latte was spectacular; hot, espresso-forward, and with beautiful latte art. The cake slice was meh (just okay, probably not super fresh). This coffee shop is inside the comcast building and is perfect for folks who work there. There was plenty of seating options (high chairs with tables, lounge chairs, and more). And the staff were super friendly -- despite it being a hectic time, they were very patient. I'd recommend picking up a cup of joe, if you're in the area. P.S. Finding Vernick was a bit of challenge for me because I entered the building from the westside on 19th & Arch -- it would have been much easier if I had entered on 18th & Arch and took the escalators up.

This raspberry pound cake was delicious! Love the vibes of this coffee shop right inside the comcast building.

    In love with the pastries.

Huge fan of this place! I happened to be staging a block away from this and so glad I ventured up the escalators of the newer comcast tower to this coffee shop. It's busy with people grabbing their morning coffee and pastries and also officially attached to the four seasons. Pretty sure you could charge it back to your room since it was on the receipt. It's totally open to the public. Their coffee was great and yes they carry soy!!! I ordered a vanilla soy latte plus an amazing lemon scone. I wish I came back to try their jelly scones. I also ordered a chia yogurt which was great too. It got too rich for me to finish it all but def worth it. I can't wait to go back. The space is open with plenty of seating. Beautiful setup.

5 years later and Vernick Coffee Bar's still going strong: though the new Miso Mushroom soup isn't quite as good as their Spicy Miso, the Wild Mushroom & Avocado Grain Bowl with vegan green goddess dressing was exactly as good as I remembered it to be! The dining space is still light and beautiful and service is still impeccable. P.S. Definitely try the carrot-cake-pie if you're a fan of (raisin-less) carrot cake with cream-cheese frosting and a graham-cracker crust!

1st time back since they reopened. SOOO happy to have Vernick back in my life! Food & service were fabulous, just as I remembered. I can't remember the kind of soup I had, it was a creamy bisque. Carrot? Squash? I don't remember. But I ordered a cup & wish it was a bowl. yum!

Good Nitro cold brew. Excellent hand pie. I stopped in to look at the art in the lobby and decided to give the coffee bar a try. I'd heard good things. It was sleek and stylish, but the vibe is more airport concession than coffee shop due to the open concept and super-high ceiling in the lobby. That said, staff were really nice as I took my time deciding. The hand pie made me jealous of their crew's baking skills. The berry-currant filling was deliciously sweet and tart. The crust was perfect to me: firm enough to hold together in my hands while I ate, yet still flaky and tender. This is a great place to stop for coffee and pastry on the go. You get to look at a Jenny Holzer installation while you wait in line. The workers in this building are very lucky. I'd go broke if I was one of them!

Surrounded by city buildings and steps away from history, Vernick Coffee Bar is a tech-forward oasis inside the Comcast Technology. Take the escalator to the second floor and find the spaceship looking cafe. You're in the right place. They have a full coffee, pastry and lunch menu. I ordered a vanilla latte and it was perfect- bold, yet creamy. There's plenty of seating, but the bar seating in the back has plenty of outlets and free wifi. It also can double as a standing desk as you work. If you need water, there's a water station at the coffee bar.

5 stars for Bud and Marilyn's? I recently gave The Love 5 stars for its fried chicken!…read more The Marilyn's Fried Chicken I had this evening was every bit as good! I'm not sure why I waited so long to try the chicken at Bud and Marilyn's, but better late than never! They serve a LARGE 1/2 chicken. I started with the thigh. I was smitten by the first bite. I was told the chicken is soaked in a buttermilk brine for 24-48 hours - dipped in a buttermilk dredge - covered with their 'secret recipe' seasoned flour - and fried in a 'pressure fryer' that cooks the chicken in 12 minutes. It was perfectly fried - so crispy - the texture and seasoning of the exterior coating was incredible. The chicken was tender and juicy - the thigh was the juiciest - I didn't get to try the drumstick as I was too full! I had the thigh and 1/2 the breast. The breast is my favorite and I savored each large delicious piece I broke apart. It's important to pick up the chicken and eat it by hand - I did cut mine in half for a picture - but didn't use a fork to eat it - you lose the 'panache'of the meal. I didn't use the hot sauce served with the chicken - I brought my own bottle of honey and poured it over the chicken and biscuits. It was heavenly! Which brings me to the Biscuits! The dish comes with 2 large fluffy buttermilk biscuits - they were golden brown on the outside and tender and fluffy on the inside! They had such a rich, buttery flavor. I took several pieces of chicken and layered them on pieces of biscuit, drizzled with honey! It was truly a 5 star fried chicken and biscuit dinner!

Unfortunately, this was by far the worst experience I've had. We had a 7 PM reservation and arrived at 7:15 PM. I acknowledge that we were late and apologized to the host. However, we arrived within the stated grace period. When we checked in, the hostess explained that because we arrived later within the grace period, our 90-minute seating window would still end based on the original reservation time. We acknowledged that and had absolutely no issue with it. What made the experience uncomfortable was how aggressively we were reminded about the time throughout the entire meal. We were reminded at least 5-6 separate times how much time we had left. Comments like "just so you know you have 25 minutes left" and "our next party is coming in 5-10 minutes" made it feel like staff was actively trying to rush us out before our reservation time had even ended. Mind you, we already understood the policy. One reminder would have been enough. Instead, it completely changed the energy of the evening and made us feel unwelcome and pressured to leave. We had originally planned to stay through our reservation and then move to the bar for the live music afterward, but after being repeatedly rushed, we decided to leave entirely and spend the rest of the night elsewhere. The most disappointing part was the interaction with the manager, Eric. Rather than listening or showing any understanding, he immediately became defensive and aggressive. He repeatedly insisted we were "15-20 minutes late," which was simply not true -- we arrived during the stated grace period. The issue was never the policy itself. It was the way we were treated throughout the night. It's unfortunate because this has genuinely been one of my favorite spots in Philly, and I've recommended it to multiple people. But this experience left a really bad impression, especially when bringing guests from out of town.

There are many tables, making it good for groups, but the interior is pretty bare. The wall is adorned with whimsical fox and chicken imagery, referencing the Hatch and Coop name. As of 05/2025, they supposedly offer 10% off your order by showing your SEPTA card. But, I'd confirm this offer before ordering to ensure it's honored. When I was there in the early morning, the cook (who also takes orders) didn't recognize the deal and didn't know how to punch it in. So, it was a bit of a letdown we couldn't redeem the deal, but we still wanted to try the sandwiches after hearing great things about them. I ordered The Hatch and Coop Sandwich (egg, cheese, chicken) on a round roll at the kiosk. You can customize your bread, egg (fried or scrambled), and cheese (provolone, american, or cheddar). The sandwiches come without any sauce unless you order sauce (extra $$) on the side. I highly recommend the Hatch Sauce- a typical mayo sauce with a little spice. I found The Hatch and Coop Sandwich to be just pretty good but I wish it had more heft to it. The chicken was juicy and well cooked, but I wish there was more. The cheese did the cheesing and coated the chicken, but the sandwich had far too many onions for my liking. With the Hatch Sauce, I felt the sandwich was tied together but it was a little odd to me the sandwich doesn't have sauce on its own. I'm giving Hatch and Coop the benefit of the doubt since it was so early in the morning, but I found my sandwich to be just OK. However, I will be back to try the fried chicken sandwiches, which I've heard rave reviews for.

With small bite presentations such as this, I firmly believe that each bite needs to taste like a flavor bomb in my mouth. Instead, it all tasted very 2 dimensional and was severely lacking in some acidity or spice. Didn't even bother taking a picture of all the dishes. I don't believe FSS is on par with other Michelin star meals I've had, especially not at this price point. Overall, don't waste your money at FSS if you want to celebrate an occasion.
