The doorway to a great neighborhood bar.
Jim M.

Great neighborhood "locals" bar. Most of the patrons are from the local area on Staten Island. Very friendly folks as well as staff. Great variety of well drinks and general cocktails. Nice selection of draught beer, a few local brews. Music on weekends. Nice music selection from the "music player". Food is good and along the lines of pub grub with burgers and the likes. Atmosphere is wonderful with the locals and everyone knows your name on ordering you a drink. A locals, local

Our server was friendly, kind and easy to talk with. The restaurant looks great and has three…read moreseparate sections: the bar area, dining area, and what looks like a dining hall/party room. We ordered the Forest Ave roast beef sandwich and the fried shrimp appetizer with bang bang sauce. The shrimp had a nice crunch, and the bang bang sauce was good, but its flavor was a bit mild and plain; some garnish like chives can definitely elevate this appetizer further! Our sandwich unfortunately came without the bacon jam and maple bourbon, which meant it was just roast beef double dunked with Gruyère cheese. Unfortunately we didn't realize it until near the end, and although our waitress apologized and brought us a side of the bacon jam, by then we only had a quarter of it left which was a bummer. The roast beef was perfectly cooked and the gravy was rich and deliciously beefy, but the extra Au jus was a bit pricy for how little it was, where it came in the same small plastic sauce container instead of a small bowl/ceramic. I'm sure this doesn't happen often that half the sandwich ingredients were left out, so I guess we were just unlucky we didn't realize sooner, but it nonetheless detracted from our experience and we were charged the full price for the meal. Overall The Point Tavern has a lot of potential of being amazing and serve probably the best roast beef in all of Staten Island; I really wish them the best with their varied roast beef selections! Please give them a try and just check your sandwich before digging into it! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:

What's the secret at the Point Tavern in Staten Island? They keep things simple! This review is based on my visit this past Saturday Evening - 21 June 2025. Bartender Mike is a true Mensch, if that's even possible, in a place like Staten Island, but he was truly a gem and kept the drinks flowing. This is truly a neighborhood watering hole that is frequented by many, including some friendly and beautiful teachers from the local school across the way. You are struck with an immediate vibe of friendliness and happiness, and visitors to the Point Tavern are truly treated like family. My great friend, "Uncle Anthony," and I enjoyed ourselves sitting and relaxing at the bar. There was a wide selection of draft beers on tap, and the mixed drinks were delicious. Confession: I made the "Shlep" to investigate this "Suspicious" Roast Beef Sandwich. My suspicions were confirmed--amazing, Juicy, Tender, and savory. Sandwiches are made to order and tailored to the customer's likely preferences. The kitchen got it right on the first shot and got me my "Kosher" Roast Beef Sandwich. Trust me, its worth the visit. A+

The building was previously The Century Inn and is one of the oldest continuously operated restaurants in New York City. It has a great history and I think the current bar dates back to the mid 19th century. After the sale a couple of years ago, the new owners kept the German themed menu, beer list and most of the decor. The decor and overall ambiance of the place is great. We were here on a Thursday night at around 6pm. It was empty. I think while we were there, maybe two other tables were occupied. There were a couple of patrons at the bar so it was relatively quiet. The food was ok, nothing special. I had the chicken cutlet Schnitzel which came with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. It was pretty bland overall. The vegetables may have come out of a can, not sure though. My cousins ordered the wurst sampler and he said it was fine. Again, the food was okay and not as good or hearty like I remembered it being. I know the spring and summer season are coming and the beer garden will be open soon. They had posters up that had the upcoming music lineup. That was always fun. Check it out if you happen to be out on Staten Island.

Best mozzarella sticks I've ever had, each stick had a nice thick piece of mozzarella, they were crispy, marinara dipping sauce was tasty as well 2. Delicious chicken tenders, classic diner style, wide and flat pieces of chicken, crispy, just how I like em! 3. Large projector screen in the back room with speakers, we had no problem seeing or hearing the Bachelor! CONS: 1. The service was pretty slow, it seemed like there was only one server there who was also the bartender but since this was on a Monday night, it's probably not usually as busy as it was when I went Besides the food I mentioned, we also had the garlic/butter pretzel with beer cheese and mustard which I enjoyed but the rest of my group found that the cheese was weird and not typical beer cheese. We also got Mac and cheese balls which I didn't try so can't comment and for dessert we had the smores brownie which was basic, I probably wouldn't get it again. Overall, I definitely want to come back, it's only been one day and I'm already craving the chicken fingers and mozz sticks
