I've only eaten here once, so maybe they just had an off day, given that my view is so different from others. But, then again, if they can stink up a meal like they did mine, it is hard to imagine they have enough consistency to deserve all those good reviews. Maybe the management changed or something. On to the review. The bread was rolled too thin and over cooked to the point where it was more suitable as a cracker. The chicken pieces were small, dry and lacking in flavor. The chicken didn't taste bad, but certainly is not at the level of other Kabob places around DC. And lets face it, Chick-fil-A right next door, so you should try to at least bring more flavor than they do... Some folks have mentioned the salad, but honestly the salad is mostly just iceberg lettuce. The lettuce was fresh and with sauce it tasted fine, but it couldn't make up for the rest of the lackluster meal. While this place isn't exactly expensive, it is not cheap for what you get, either. I only eat at the mall for lunch, and I'm not interested in paying $10 or more and being hungry again in a couple hours, especially given the food quality And finally Grill Kabob is the slowest option in the food court by a margin of at least 2 to 1. No reason not to walk a couple extra steps to Chick-fil-A or stop at the Japanese place before you get here. Both places do a better job. read more

My husband loves this place and took me here for the first time yesterday. He and his dad have been coming here for years. I was skeptical because he told me it's in the mall. It was so good! I woke up and ate the leftover rice, chickpeas, and white sauce for breakfast. I had the ground chicken kebab last night and he had lamb kebab. A bunch of other people in our family had chicken kebab and vegetarian dishes. The two guys running the register were super nice. I paid about $100 to feed 8-12 people. Not bad. The rice was perfect. You get 1 star because of your cashier. I placed my order and for first time I forgot to ask for brown rice only. When I asked for it my order didn't make the tray yet and your cashier stated " you made your order it's too late to change it." I explained that I cannot eat white rice and he ignored me. I was on the prowl for some good eats when I headed up to Dulles Towne Center mall. I skipped The Cheesecake Factory to check out Vapiano and Grill Kabob. I had read lukewarm reviews on Vapiano and thought that perhaps most of these centered negatively on the ala carte/walk-up-to-the-counter way of ordering, and this did not deter me since I already have had that experience in a few places back home in AZ and came away with some good epicurean memories. What did deter me was the pricing of these items, and I could see that I could easily spend $15-20 on lunch! I was also on a time-crunch so I decided I'd postpone my first Vapiano experience for a later visit (perhaps I'll be lucky enough to find someone to share my meal with!). I was hoping I recalled correctly that there was a Mediterranean spot called Grill Kabob at the food court, and sure enough, I found it. The short, but sweet menu advertised single entrees of beef, chicken, or lamb (each of which included basmati rice, salad, and fresh baked bread). I was impressed to witness that one of the assistants seemed to be cooking the bread in a metal tandoor oven! These entrees were priced slightly below $10-11. Combination entrees (beef/ckn, ckn/lamb, beef/lamb) were price-y, costing at least $16 or more! I was hoping to be able to try two meats, but decided I'd try the lamb. I had to change my order, however, when I spotted a woman walk away with a plate containing great-looking dark-green spinach and scrumptious chickpea (aka garbanzo bean) -topped rice. I asked if my lamb dish would come with spinach and chickpeas and was told no, but I could have those with the special of the day, which was chicken curry. I was all smiles as I headed to a table with my treasure of chicken curry; two scoops of basmati rice- plain was topped with spinach and seasoned was topped with chickpea curry; and salad topped with tzatziki sauce). I was in heaven as I savored every morsel of this dish, until I felt a * in my mouth and spotted a couple pieces of *, too :( I love **, but I'm, unfortunately, allergic to them. This was definitely a downer, since removing the remainder allergens won't prevent me from having an allergy attack (their essences have already permeated through the chicken curry). I was doubly-happy, then, that I was able to get cooked spinach with the meal, as spinach contains high levels of anti-inflammatory properties and could, therefore, mitigate the effects of the allergic attack that was to ensue. While I won't be ordering the flavorful chicken curry special in the future, I'm happy to report that the chickpea curry over rice, spinach, and salad are more than enough to make a satisfying and wholesome vegetarian meal should I find myself not looking for a meat source for protein. The thought of fresh-baked bread wrapped around chickpea curry, spinach,and tzatziki-laced salad is making me hungry right now... I thought it might help to note that at least two things kept me from giving GK four stars, and these are: 1. the lack of signs (or knowledgeable employees) listing the ingredients in the dishes- guess I'm a bit spoiled by dining at such places like Whole Foods, a few Farmer's market-type grocery stores back home, and a local foodie haven called Wegmans... 2. the way I felt rushed in the ordering process. More efficient signs could better educate consumers as to the available offerings and minimize questions and therefore help streamline the ordering process. Also, wouldn't it be better to use the correct names for these dishes, instead of the generic "white sauce" for tzatziki/raita, or "bread" for naan/roti/pita? Maybe it's just me, but I'd think it would let consumers leave with a more authentic experience of the cuisine. read more

I currently live in Ashburn and eat at Grill Kabob on a regular basis. I knew about this location back when I used to live in Herndon a couple of years ago, and would still drive past other kabob restaurants like Charcoal, and Moby Dick to eat at this place. The food is amazing and quite addictive. My boyfriend who resides in Potomac Maryland says the same about the location at Montgomery Mall which is owned by the same people. The Chicken Kabob is extremely tender and filled with flavor, and tastes perfect with the tangy white sauce along with the chutney. The kobeeda is great as well, along with everything on the menu that I have tried. Since it is in a food court I usually call ahead of time and order carry out, that way when I get to the location it is ready for me to pay and go. It seems like they have been expanding throughout Maryland, Va and DC according to their Menu. GRILL KABOB IS A MUST.!!!...once you try it you will be addicted. read more

Not the best Afghan food in the world, but, if craving beef, lamb or chicken kabobs with rice, this is the go to stop in dulles town center. Taste is good, but not juicy and savory like other places in the DMV. The bread is a flat lifeless hard compliment to the meal. I usually can't eat it since it gets very crusty and hard. Typically naan should be moist and fluffy with hint of butter. Anyhow, i think it's a decent joint to check out. Most who have never eaten kabobs will like it. They satisfied my Gyro craving I was having but probably won't try it again. I thought they were slightly overpriced ($10.99 for an average size Gyro, no side and no drink) and I had to wait a really long time. 20 minutes. It would make sense to have to wait that long if I had ordered a kabob platter since they make it fresh to order (they did look delicious) but I ordered a Gyro sandwich and the meat was already carved and sitting in a warmer. We go here every time we come to the mall. I have never had any complaints. The owner or his son I believe is always working there. I think they know us by now. Food is always hot and fresh. You can see them grilling the meat and making the naan right in front of you. I get the chicken and beef kobedda combo. It's always consistently good. It comes with salad, rice, bread, and chickpeas. Moderately good. Went here for lunch while in the area. Bonus is they are Apple Pay, and you get both white and brown rice....except I asked for Brown. Salad dressing not on par with other Afghan places so not sure where to classify this type of kabob. Chicken was pretty good. I prefer more of a yogurt white sauce that's minimally season, this had lots of spice and flavors going on. The Naan was a bit thin and heavy, vs the usual light and a bit of fluff I get at my preferred Afghan kabob joints. A lot of food, not bad. This place does a great job. Service is actually REALLY fast for being set up in a food court and making fresh kabob and pita. Yeah, its going to be a slightly longer wait than a premade burger or chicken sandwich sitting in a foil bag under a lamp. But, even with a long line, my food came out FAST. I have been eating grill kabob for years, it is a weekly staple. I only get one thing, chicken kabobs. They are so delicious. My husband says that the gyros are not so great, so we stick to what we like. We both get the chicken. The meat is so tender and yummy, the sauces are amazing, and the bread is delicious and made fresh there.
