Caesar Salad (Lunch deal with a big slice, salad, and drink)
    Andrea T.

After seeing a sign advertising their lunch deal for a giant slice, salad, and a drink for $10.99, we decided to stop in for Friday lunch. They've done a nice job with the interior and there's lots of space to dine in without feeling like you're sitting on top of the table/people next to you. There were probably around 10 tables when we got there for lunch. Our waiter did a good job taking our orders and tending to us. Honestly may have been one of the better servers we've had in a while. So props to him! Food wise, the salads were good. Fresh and not soaked in dressing which I always appreciate. I ordered my slice with the white garlic pizza with chicken, artichokes, and sweet red peppers. I anticipated a flavorful slice. My husband ordered the traditional pizza with sausage and mushrooms. When they came, we saw two very differently baked slices. Both were what I'd call more of a thin crust pizza. His crust was dark and overdone. My crust was done nicely but the bottom crust wasn't crispy like I expected. It was tough to cut through and soft. My flavors didn't pop like I was expecting. I couldn't really taste much garlic and the other toppings did little to help. Sadly, it was bland. My husband said his pizza tasted good but the crust was too overdone. We did see nearby tables with a more consistent bake on full pies. Maybe the key is ordering a full one and not the lunch or by the slice.

An enjoyable meal! It is very good for a chain. The ingredients and freshness were fine but that's mostly what holds them back from me giving them a 5. A pro about this place is that the pizza was cooked so well! Perfect amount of crunch for me while it maintained a good structure but had a little bit of flop. The ambiance was really good. Inside is really nice but it was so nice out so we had to take advantage of their quaint little patio! Waiter was friendly as well. Vibes top notch.

    Sad little salad

Ordered a small pizza and salad. Salad was pitiful , looks wilted . And no dressing! Pizza had a very small smattering of sausage.... Very poor excuse for a meal.

We had Grimaldi's in New York a few years ago, so we had high expectations for this one. We were not disappointed! It was classy, but not too much. Very nice set up of the restaurant and we sat on the bar side and it was comfortable! Able to watch all of our favorite football games and enjoy amazing food! Pizza and antipasto was delicious and fresh! Service was kind and attentive! If you want a great pizza and not break the bank, you will want to give Grimaldi's a chance! We'll be back for sure!

Our 12 inch build your own pizzas

We stopped in last evening around 7 pm hoping to grab a couple of slices but discovered they are only available for a lunch special. We returned again today at 3:30 pm. Between lunch and dinner hours, we had our choice of seating and chose a booth which gave us a Birds Eye view of the restaurant. Red checked tablecloths and Frank Sinatra music contributed to the atmosphere. Now for the food. We split a small Caesar salad and the small size was plenty big enough to split. Not overly dressed with crisp Romaine lettuce. Since we hadn't eaten lunch (and we like different toppings on our pizza) we each ordered a 12 inch build your own. The toppings tend to be pricey so your cost can add up quickly, however, the topping amount was generous. The crust was thin and spot on but did get a little soggy as time went on. We had a switch in servers mid-meal; didn't get the name of our first one but after Jacob took over, he made sure to tell us of the switch. I was almost finished with my iced tea and thinking I'd like a refill when Jacob appeared with another before I could ask which was impressive! This is not a budget pizza meal but the food was good and we would return!

We went on a Saturday night so it was busy. We were seated pretty much right away but then it took a while for anyone to take our drink and appetizer order. We weren't in a rush so it wasn't a huge inconvenience. The checkered table clothes gave it an old pizza parlour vibe which was cool. We ordered the antipasto as an appetizer and it was good. The bread was soft and fresh and plate came with big slices of mozzarella. We ordered two pizzas- the Brooklyn bridge, show in the picture, and the BBQ chicken. Is it the best pizza I've ever had, no, but it was very good. Crust is very thin and a little chewy. The tomato sauce was definitely fresh which was great because I think the sauce can make or break a pizza. It was light but flavourful and filing. The BBQ chicken was also very good. The fact that the pizzas are cooked in a wood fired helped the smoky BBQ taste I think. It didn't quite taste like your typical BBQ pizza with store bought Sauce, it had a slightly elevated flavour. We also got some of the hot honey to try. I have had a few hot honeys but this one was extra hot. Very hot in its own but added a nice flavour complex when drizzled on the pizza. All in all I would recommend if you are looking for a nice place to grab a slice.

Potstickers were just okay. The dipping sauce didn't do them any favors--this felt like an easy upgrade they're missing. Imperial Egg Rolls were the biggest letdown. At $17 for three, I expected something memorable...they just weren't. Pad Thai landed squarely in "average." Grilled Honey Roast Chicken Egg Noodles was a mixed bag. The chicken itself was delicious, but the noodles were pretty bland--and oddly, they didn't really work together. Royal Fried Rice was a win. The combo of BBQ pork, sweet sausage, and shrimp came together really well. Seafood Noodle dish was unfortunately pretty bland. All in all, a few bright spots, but not a place we're rushing back to--though I'd reorder those wings without hesitation.

We started with a Spiced Watermelon Paloma (see picture) and Summer Berry Spritzy Sangria (see picture) - both of which were very tasty and quite refreshing. For our meals, my wife ordered the Cooper's Hawk Chicken Giardiniera (see picture) and I opted for the Blackened Mahi Sandwich (see picture). We both enjoyed our meals as well as the samples that we shared with each other - so would definitely order them again and recommend them. While I was disappointed with our first visit and find the lighting quite poor inside the restaurant in the evenings, the food, drink and atmosphere are consistently very good.

We loved our first visit to this joint, let me tell you this is the best steak house I've been to across many states and with my steak house loving family who make it a point to visit all major chains and local spots. That this place is a solo, homegrown Des Moines steak house is incredible, and they are going toe to toe with the giants like Ruth Chris and Capital Grill. Our server was a cut above, pun intended, so knowledgeable and so accommodating. We ordered oysters, delicious bread, filet, t-bone, rainbow carrots and bacon creamed corn and we loved it all. No complaints, no notes. And don't think "why would anyone order carrots?" Because they transformed those colorful babies into a sweet, creamy delicacy you won't soon forget. We brought our own wine for a chunky corkage fee but my parents love wine so it was worth it to them (not me!) My dad accidentally ordered a $40 old fashioned because he picked the most expensive bourbon on the menu, so maybe ask the price before you order some of their more fancy concoctions. But like I said, bring a heavy wallet, an empty stomach and get ready to be blessed by the steakhouse gods in this gorgeous, classy environment.

It's polished and upscale, but it never feels snooty or overly formal. There's still a casualness to the place that makes it feel approachable, and I liked that right away. I was there for a work dinner, and the service was excellent. Our server, Chris, was dynamite--attentive, funny, and full of great recommendations. She gave us just the right amount of attention without hovering, which is harder to pull off than it sounds. I had the Chilean sea bass, which was cooked perfectly, tender inside with a really nice sear that gave it a crisp exterior. It was served over a creamy fondue that was just slightly lemony and complemented the fish really well. My coworker had the filet and absolutely loved it, saying it was literally one of the best steaks she's ever had. They grill their steaks over charcoal, and that char really came through not just on the filet, but also on the broccolini we ordered. The standout for me, though, was the creamed corn with crab. Big chunks of crab, sweet corn, a savory cream sauce and perfectly cooked pieces of bacon. It sounds like it should be heavy, but it really wasn't. Just incredibly flavorful, and probably my favorite thing we had all night. We finished with a dessert that had cinnamon ice cream, oats, crunchy bits and plenty of sweetness. I think it was called Jim's Oatmeal Something, which sounds vaguely like something you'd feed a horse, but it was actually delicious. Kind of like a really good cobbler without the fruit. Whatever it was called, I'd order it again. We had cocktails, and the total came to about $300 for two, so this is definitely a place for a special occasion or when you feel like splurging a little. But the food, service and atmosphere all delivered, and I'd definitely come back. I'm honestly surprised this is sitting at four stars on Yelp. Based on my experience, Prime & Providence is a five-star restaurant. If you want a really good meal in a place that feels special without making you feel like you need to wear a tuxedo and mind your manners, this is a great choice.

There was no presence, no attentiveness, and no sense that anyone was managing the room. At one point I was just sitting there waiting for the check with no sign of the bartender. For a Saturday night, it felt strangely lifeless. It's disappointing because the space has potential. But service and vibe matter just as much as the food -- and right now, both are missing.
