    ##29 BBQ Chicken Grinder
    Jack B.

Friendly staff. Never a long wait. Food is good quality and I'm never disappointed with my order. Would recommend as an easy take-out lunch spot.

Just recently tried this place because of there "2 slices & fountain drink for $3" deal, you get really good size pieces, can add toppings and they aren't bad at all, they have good wings and good seasoned fries, good customers service, coming back to try there sandwiches soon, definitely would try this place out.

Steak grinder 5.99 with drink and chips

Up and down John R year after year after year without any thought of stopping in here. It's near a busy intersection and only three stars. Today, I'm hungry and I see and more important it's a Sunday, thought about putting a Bangles reference in here but the youngsters might not get it and the other folks may question my music taste. Anyway, I walk in and am greeted right away. I see coupons on the counter, and the employee says I can use any of them. I look at the menu and then look around the place. It's pretty clean, so I decide to order an 8-inch grinder(z) sandwich combo with chips and a drink for 5.99. It didn't take long, I think I came in at an off time. I have to applaud the staff for being so friendly and helpful. Now the food. I had to stop by Lowe's and decided to eat it in the parking lot while it was still hot. The sandwich is quite a bit of food and comes with all kinds of toppings lettuce, mushroom, cheese, and peppers are what I remember at the moment. The bread is pretty crispy, a bit more well-done than I'd like but it's just a preference and still excellent. Now I have another option around the area.

I also ordered Carbonara because I was craving that and didn't want to make it at home. They put CREAM in their Carbonara, which is a culinary SIN. They might know how to make fresh pasta, which is easy, but to destroy that dish by adding cream shows they have zero skills with regard to Carbonara. The silkiness of the sauce is created by adding small amounts of pasta water, parmesan, stirring constantly until it's creamy. Suffice to say, I won't be dining in their restaurant. If diners in MI were more discerning, maybe one day it would be feasible for a restauranteur to receive a James Beard award. Don't hold your breath though.

Ordered the misto salad, cucumber gimlet, misto frita, grilled octopus, pizza fungi, pesto beets, eggplant Parmesan, gnocchi Roma and chicken piccata. I didn't end up getting the salad requested, but the fritta misto with calamari only. $192.49 for the 4 of us. The grilled octopus was good, the garnish was better. I didn't offer the fried calamari. The only thing on the menu close was the fritta misto, but that has eggplant and shrimp. This was just fried calamari. Either way it was okay, the dip is tomato sauce, was a tad bland. The pizza fungi is so yummy. I could have eaten the whole pie on my own. The eggplant Parmesan was super light on the breading, it was quite good. The gnocchi wasn't too bad, the pieces were small cylindrical shape and not the gnocchi shaped I was expecting, it was cooked al dente, maybe a tad too hard for my liking. The pesto beet was quite good. Big beet chunks. Slippery, lost one on the floor: Then chicken piccata was okay, sauce was good, nice balance of lemon and capers. I can't say it blew me away though. The pizza fungi was definitely the best part of the meal. Service was really good here, definitely take good care of you during your visit.

It was a bunch of things I would never think to put together (the brisket, orzo "mac" and cheese, fried onions & molasses bbq sauce) and it was really good. My only real complaints are that they charge for bread and for salad. I guess charging for bread is becoming a thing; this is the second restaurant I've been to recently where they've done that. If their menu prices were lower, I could understand it, but with entrees at $20 - $40, I would expect at least a piece of bread and an accompanying vegetable.

It's great for a casual date or a nice meal with friends. We started with the bread board which was alright. I think they described the bread as focaccia, so I was expecting a bread with more of a crunchy crust and the classic dimples on top. However, this bread was fluffy and soft, but it was still very good. I'm not sure if I would get it again since it felt like a bread board I could put together at home. I preferred the bruschetta we got last time. For my entree, I went with the chicken parm which was very good. The chicken was coated well and the sauce was delicious. Overall, this is a great spot for Italian food in Royal Oak, and we'll be back for future date nights.

I take the pain…read more --- From Wikipedia: Strozzapreti (Italian: [strttsaprti]; lit. 'priest choker' or 'priest strangler' are hand-made pasta shape, similar to cavatelli, though longer. The name is also used for a baked cheese and vegetable dumpling, prepared in some regions of Italy. Etymology There are several legends to explain the name, primarily based on the anticlerical sentiment of the region. One is that gluttonous priests were so enthralled by the savory pasta that they ate too quickly and choked themselves. Another explanation involves the azdora ('housewife' in the Romagna dialect), who "chokes" the dough strips to make the strozzapreti. The azdora would express rage (perhaps triggered by the misery and difficulties of her life) and curse the local clergy, resulting in a pasta that could choke a priest. A third states that wives would customarily make the pasta for churchmen as partial payment for land rents (in Romagna, the Catholic Church had extensive land properties rented to farmers), and their husbands would be angered enough by the venal priests eating their wives' food to wish the priests would choke as they stuffed their mouths with it. The name surely reflects the diffuse anticlericalism of the people of Romagna and Tuscany. --- Had this pasta for the first time al funghi at a friend's wedding in Italy which cost me a fortune between airfare and suits but Bigalora does a great meat based version. I'd suggest they add a funghi option as well and I'm going to be so bold as to say that since they are making the pasta in house...please sell us bags! I never thought I'd eat this again after enjoying these yummy noodles without buying another suit, a plane ticket, and whatever it costs to renew my passport. Highly recommended! The other stuff is great too!

There was another couple seated next to us, and after 20 minutes, no server had come to take our order. We eventually had to call someone over for assistance. The woman who helped us was very kind and said she wasn't actually our server, but was more than happy to take our order anyway--which we appreciated. Unfortunately, we saw our assigned server more when it came time to cash out than we did before or during the meal. That lack of attention really took away from what could have been a great dining experience. I've dined at Bigalora before and have never experienced such a long wait just to place an order. Because of this visit, I won't be back anytime soon.
