This is a neat little cafe in Downtown Chula, nestled between the burgeoning bar scene popping up Post-Pandemic. They are still working on inside dining, but have excellent alfresco dining, with picnic tables, bar stools and Cafe style seating. The menu has a large variety of coffee delights to tempt your taste buds. Tea drinkers aren't left out, from Chai and Chamomile to Earl Grey and Oolong, there's a choice to your liking. Either options can be served hot or cold. If you want a Drank instead of a drink, there's beer ( Micheladas‼), wine, and ciders. And you can't have your drink without a little something to go with it! Whether you want breakfast or lunch, they've got you. Among the three of us, we did lunch, splitting a Cuban sandwich and a Grilled Cheese. The Cuban was HUGE!! Tender slices of succulent ham, juicy pulled pork with the right amount of spice to wake that tongue up and say "Buenos Días "! It was married with Swiss Cheese, pickles and mustard on a piping hot toasted Torta ( chef's kiss ‍) . The Grilled Cheese melted Provolone, Chedder, and Mozzarella on Sourdough and a healthy amount of butter. Needless to say, no one needed a doggie bag. Put GrindHouse on your list of eateries to try! I just had a fabulous Cuban sandwich from the Grind house: House smoked mojo pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles and mustard on a fresh torta roll! $8.00 but worth every bite. Its pressed and hot when it's served to you. They serve about 8 different types of sandwiches plus breakfast sandwichs, salads, hot drin ks or cold beer. Love the coffee and their awesome decor. Stopped by on a random off day from work with my wife. We both loved it.

Super disappointing. Staff was chatting amongst themselves and ignoring customers. Coffee was good but my breakfast omlette was extrmely bland and practically burnt. And I didn't ask for it to go but it came in a to go container anyway. Covid restrictions were lifted quite awhile ago so there is no reason I should have received my food to go. ive been here many times and loved it the coffee is okay. The only thing is a barista who works there that gives me a hard time. About everytime ive seen him there hes always spouting out hate towards other people with very foul language. This last time sent me over the edge though. I walked in and the guy farted so loud and said f%#k yeah that felt good! Keep in mind this guy looks about to be in his forties,( hes covered in tattoos and a very ungroomed beard that he touches throughout serving). I mean this guy is way too old to be acting like that.. Today was the first time I tried and supported our Nieghbor business, Ron was pleasant to meet and very informative, has a great personality thank you for making me feel welcomed! Tried the Avocado toast that was made on a Rosemary sourdough toast yummy it was perfect on point w/crispness freshness and by Far the best I've had in a long time had red pickled onions props to the back kitchen staff !!! I thought I would give a good review on this chill coffee shop. I used to previously work here and this review is not because I was told to write it but I enjoyed coming as a regular then and will continue to come here. Grindhouse is a very chill spot if you're looking for good music, spot to do homework, or just to relax with a good quality coffee, they have quite a selection of smooth flavorful coffee and they definitely try to get the best of everything. One of my go to and will always be is the matcha green tea latte with lavender. The matcha is hands down the best I have ever had so far and nothing has quite beat it yet. If you love matcha I highly recommend trying it here. Let's talk about the food. When I first started they didn't have food quite yet and had been a hassle to get it running. I'm happy they finally got it running and have quite of a selection of good quality sandwiches I highly recommend trying the Cuban sandwich. Meat is very flavorful and the bread is beautifully toasted and the pickles give it a awesome kick. Everything In this place is always constantly changing but it's always a good change. On my lunch break and endeavor to find local coffee shops within driving range that can be reached in my 30 minute lunch break. I happened to be in the Chula Vista area and looked up coffee shops and Grindhouse came up. There were a couple people waiting for orders. Good sign. There were 3 employees getting orders ready. I ordered my standard cold brew with oat milk. I waited about 5-6 minutes. Not long. It wasn't very strong. Not super flavorful. But okay. In a pinch I would be back to check out some of the other items on the menu. They have a fairly large menu of drinks and food items. Staff was very nice and knew a couple of the "regulars" that popped in by name. A true local coffee shop vibe. Very cool. The gentleman that took my order called me by name when he asked if I wanted my receipt. I'm always impressed when that level of customer service is used. Try their iced chai latte! It's the best one I've had in SD hands down and so addicting, I have to stop myself daily from getting one as this spot is only a few blocks away from me. My husband and I were in town for a concert 2 weeks ago. It was a beautiful, sunny, Saturday morning and we wanted to enjoy breakfast outside. I found The Grindhouse via Yelp and it looked right up our alley. The line was very long, this place definitely has a cult following. We ordered a Cuban sandwich, tuna melt, hibiscus tea, and an iced mocha. The Cuban sandwich was a solid 10. It was fantastic. All the ingredients were high quality and it tasted amazing. The tuna melt, was unfortunately a 2. The two points are for the bread and the cheese. The tuna was dark in color and very fishy tasting. It wasn't traditional white albacore tuna salad. I felt bad that my husband and I did not eat it. Luckily, the Cuban sandwich was more than plenty. The drinks were good, but nothing over the top. I liked the décor of the bathroom. Overall, a nice place to have a meal, but next time I'll try a veggie sandwich or a grilled cheese instead of the tuna melt. read more

Great location on 3rd ave in old Chula Vista. A few seats outside to people watch. Server was friendly and made a fresh pot of coffee for the hubs. We didnt try any food but says they sell food and beer. Lots of craft beer places in the area within walking distance. I had the small Mexican Mocha it was good but wish the I had gotten the large. The iced cold dirty chai here is worth stopping by. This place led me to a pretty cool shopping nook and I really like interior here. I guess it's dog friendly because there's a dog sitting next to my leg. Outlets for doing work and parking isn't horrible. They have metered parking and ya better have quarters because it doesn't take card. Good news is, it's thirty minutes a quarter and guess who had a dollar? this guy. You know it's a comfy spot when you see others working away on their laptops. Really cool art everywhere and goods to buy. Make sure you've got about a good half hour even if there's not necessarily a line. One or two people waiting for drinks ahead of me, resulted in a 20/25min for drinks to come out. A self-proclaimed mocha connoisseur, this one was pretty average. Decent espresso, decently priced, but lots of powdery cacao at the bottom didn't allow me to finish. Oat milk to espresso was ratio was good but that chalky substance was an unpleasant surprise. Overall excellent experience. This was my first time at Grindhouse, and I'm super happy with everything! The staff was really friendly, and helped me create the perfect drink that I was looking for. Friendly service, a member points system, great coffee in many different styles and tasty food. They are doing great on COVID precautions, I felt safe there. The food takes a bit due to COVID issues but it is worth the 15 minute wait. Step outside, have some of the tasty coffee and come back and check up if it is ready to go. Very nice little coffee house in downtown Chula Vista. I rarely come down this way, unless I'm working in the schools here. I'm always on the look out for amazing coffee. This place has great service and the coffee was on point. The food was good. However, I would say that the condiments could be better. Packaged syrup has high fructose corn syrup and so does some of the packaged jam. For the prices you pay for the food and coffee, it's comparable to organic coffee shops that have better ingredients. You have to pay for street parking but it's good for the ones who walk or ride their bike. Nice ambiance. read more

My teen discovered this place since she likes trying new local small coffee shops. We make it a treat on weekend mornings and get up and try to be the first ones in. I've had the Cuban sandwich every time. This time the husband and other child wanted us to bring them something home so we took it to go. Food takes the average time to come out and from what it looks like the same amount of time when it gets busy. Haven't been there any other time of the day. Happy tears for AMAZING coffee! I had the dirty chai and it did not disappoint. It was like something sent from the heavens above. Seriously though, one of the best coffees I have ever had!
