Just ordered two burritos from here, have to say, all of the food was delicious. The chips and guac was a HUGE portion, which was surprising because most Mexican-style places give you little guac and a massive amount of chips. Guac was fresh and tasty as well. Really liked it! They were very accommodating with some special requests (burrito to be shared with a child who didn't want avocado/crema/pico; all toppings served separately; quesadilla with chicken served with extra sour cream in case too spicy for my mom/it was not in the end). Street corn is on point!!! Salsa bar is fun and hot sauce assortment very nice. Seating outside is super. Definitely a nice alternative to Surf Taco and especially convenient to beat traffic that you'd hit getting to ST from the island towns. read more

I have to echo other reviewers who said the food here is bland. This is a very generic Mexican menu very obviously put crafted by non Mexicans. If you are looking for authentic Mexican cuisine, this is not the place for you. There was very little heat, spice or salt In the food we ordered. My wife and I both got burritos and they came wrapped in a paper foil that the burrito tortilla stuck to when unwrapping. There were multiple different salsas that I could not tell the difference between, except the green salsa which I did not enjoy at all. The one shining spot on the menu was the Mexican street corn. It was very good. And.... way overpriced for an order at the counter and have them bring out to your table restaurant. read more

We walked over last night and had shrimp tacos as well as a chicken burrito. All in all very average. We needed to add hot sauce to both since they lacked flavor. First time ordering from Gringos... chicken quesadilla was average, I don't think I would order it again, chips with guac was ok but not worth $10 (guac was missing salt or spice)... I had the beef brisket taco combination which was very tasty, cilantro lime rice was a nice compliment to the spicy black beans (I really wanted to try the retried beans but they were sold out). My husband had the pulled pork burrito which said was decent, but too much rice. A bit pricey in my opinion, but that's common on the barrier island. read more

Absolutely phenomenal tacos. I felt like I was kissing the lords lips with every bite I took of the chipotle chicken taco. The depressing part was when I went to pick up some salsa for my chips the bottles were covered in gnats so I had to dip my chips in Cholulas hot sauce instead :(. That being said the tacos are amazing, being a big salsa guy I'd recommend them getting a nice salsa bar like surf taco and maybe a fly net or two. read more

Food is really good. I would say this isn't a kids friendly place if your kids are picky eaters (thinking back to when I was a kid I wouldn't want pulled pork tacos) I love it tho!!! The only thing I would say is they need to start putting the AC on.. it's so hot in there and i would love to stay and eat if it was better temp. in there. Not to mention it' can be gross having a really sweaty person cook your food.. I usually get my food to go. Their Salsas r rlly good too. So glad to have a fun little cantina at the shore. I've been wanting to try it since I first spotted it over Memorial Day Weekend. I finally brought my three kids in for dinner around sunset -- the food was yummy and the ambiance (outside, bench tables) was festive. I had the veggie tacos and the kids had black bean and cheese tacos (the person taking our orders was happy to accommodate that request). We stopped in a few weeks ago and thought the food was great. My son & I had the fish taco combo....Delicious!! My husband and daughter had the brisket burritos and they said it was great. It looked good, but I wanted to keep my fish tacos to myself! So nice to have a place to walk/bike to. The young woman at the counter was friendly as well as the staff that brought out the food. The food was ready quickly and liked that they brought it out as soon as it was done. All the food was delivered within 3 minutes of each other so no one was waiting long. Love this new spot... the vibe, the decor and the FOOD. The tacos were fantastic. We had the brisket, pork and chicken tacos and the meat was smoked to perfection on all three. We loved the toppings in particular... pickled red onions and poblanos, avocado crema, cilantro slaw and cotija... all added bursts of flavor that were the perfect compliment. After reading some reviews I had much higher hopes for this place. Got the veggie tacos which tasted like they were cooked on the same grill as meat. Please do not offer a vegetarian option if you're not going to inform your customers about cross contamination. This is important for ANY dietary restriction. Allergies included. We even asked the cashier if they could be made vegan. She seemed confused so I asked if she could double check. We were told if we left off the avocado crema and got corn tortillas they were vegan. Not only were they completely tasteless but tasted like animal grease. Any business, especially these days needs to know their menu and if you can't accommodate, just say so. Your customers would appreciate that much more. Also noticed a cook wasn't wearing gloves and was plating chips. The servers were very nice and this place has potential, but this went above and beyond disappointment. read more

Since I'm vegetarian I eat Mexican a lot. Was really shocked all the rice here has cilantro, which I experience as tasting like soap. There was very little I could order. When I complained about the lack of plain rice to the guy making the food ( pretty sure he is the owner) he got really testy. I settled for a boring bland veggie taco without sauce because that also had cilantro. But the biggest turn off was this guy's attitude. I decided to go to this restaurant after reading an article in the New York Post about it. I decided to try the lobster taco which I thought was going to be skimpy but was completely opposite huge chunks of fresh cooked lobster with a delicious coleslaw and sauce on top. The beer battered fish taco was also fantastic the fish inside was juicy and fresh and the outside batter was so crispy along with the coleslaw topping and sauce. And absolutely amazing restaurant with truly fantastic high quality food. Plus the two owners were real cool stand up dude s. I would definitely give Gringos a shot. read more

So the chicken tacos were great! We wanted fish tacos but they ran out. Shrimp tacos were okay nothing special. Rice was kinda hard. I think this place could be a success however it is a bit overpriced. Chips and guacamole( not anything special) should not be $10.00 for a place like this. Unless you are making it at the table you can't charge a price like that. You also need to include salsa, sour cream, and guacamole for your taco plates. I hope as this place gets settled they improve bc it's a good addition to Ocean Beach. read more

Gringo's had excellent food. The various items with brisket were amazing, as were the fish tacos. The staff was incredibly helpful, which you don't often see in this type of restaurant. In fact, after putting my food in the car I foolishly locked my keys in with the food, and they went so far as to remake the order, for free, so I could feed my kids while we waited for roadside assistance to unlock the car. That plus excellent food is a win in my book. I cannot say enough good things. read more
