I know we are in strange times. We all want small businesses to succeed. But client service, whether we are in a pandemic or normal times ,is still customer service. I called to place an order, 5th time in 3 weeks. They asked me to call back in ten minutes. I called back in 10 minutes and 20 minutes later I get through. They ask me to call back again as they were busy. Ok so I call a third time. Then they tell me they not taking phone orders. I ask for the manager to explain that I called 3 times per your request and now wont take my order. I tried to be understanding, as we are in difficult times. But when I hear the young girl on the phone explain to the manager the situation, he says just tell him the manager is busy. Ok ,if we think this is acceptable, that is your call. I think its poor client service regardless of the circumstances. Get my order wrong, I get it. Forget something, I get it. Something comes out bad,I get it. But dont ask me to call back and the third time tell me I cant order on the phone, and the manager wont take 30 seconds to get on the phone. But all good as this is America. Gringos has the right the right to treat customers the way they want and I have the right whether or not to give my business to them. The good thing for them is they dont need or want my business and I dont need to give it to them. read more

All I can say is WOW !!! Food was on point and the place is decorated unreal and immaculate. Nice outdoor seating if your feeling it. Both owners where out in the open kitchen and greeted my wife and I. Had the Mexican street corn OMG WAS IT AMAZING!!! Then had 4 soft corn tacos. Brisket,Chicken,Fish. Also had a brisket quesadilla that was on point. I recommend this place highly if your on the barrier island. As a former restaurant owner I can tell you this place is the real deal. Amazing. In my mind this is one of the best Mexican places ever. They have a great chicken taco and amazing guacamole. Not only that the wait staff is Amazon and everyone is extremely friendly. They are usually serve you fast unless it is a Friday night at the Jersey shore in which case they work their butts off to get your food you asap. Great food!! Big portions, so it's worth the money. Guac was fantastic. Great service as well. During dinner rush we called in an order for pick-up and it was ready in 15 minutes. Was staying in Lavalette for a few days and just kind of fell upon this little joint. So glad I did. If I could give it 10 stars I would. I had a shrimp taco that was out of this world just to enough spices tomatoes, lettece and had some type of sauce on it that was out of this world the shrimp were cooked to perfection! It was phenomenal. I Also got the guacamole and the queso dips again phenomenal and more than enough to go around. My My brother-in-law got the roasted jalapeno chicken tacos they were also phenomenal everything was so good that when I left after my 4 day visit I literally stopped on my way home picked up another shrimp taco and some more Queso and guac to eat on the way home. Also the staff is phenomenal service was great the place is clean and friendly I would highly recommend this place to go for lunch or dinner when you're down in the area its so worth the trip like I said 10 stars if I could. read more

My cousins and I went to Gringos taco shack and we're very pleased. We got an appetizer of chips and guacamole, and it was very good. The chips came out warm and fresh! For a main course we ordered one chipotle chicken burrito, and three taco meals (which comes with three tacos and beans and rice) Everything was very good, but the only problem was there brisket taco was a bit dry. I recommend the shrimp taco or the fish taco. The waiters were very good, and the food came out very fast considering they were busy. I would definitely go here again! read more

Terribly bland food (I mean totally flavorless), and REDICULOUSLY over-priced. We tried the fried fish taco, grilled shrimp taco, brisket taco, pulled pork taco, rice with black beans, and chips with guacamole. The common theme throughout every dish was bland, bland, bland. They cook everything with absolutely no seasoning what-so-ever. It's as though they have an aversion to flavor. There was only one thing we tried which had any flavor at all, and that was the brisket taco. Frankly, that was probably sub-par too, but less terrible than everything else. Especially bad was the guacamole, which tasted like nothing more than avacado (no garlic, salt, or anything else), the pulled pork taco, which was unbelievably dry in addition to flavorless, and the rice and black beans, which were served to us at least 10 minutes before everything else making them ice cold in addition to bland. Price-wise... $55 for me, my wife, and our 5-year old daughter. And that's for counter service, not even a nice sit-down meal. Overall, this place is a joke! It'll never last. read more

Great little place here on the barrier island. Only had breakfast here, they serve a few breakfast tacos which were small, but decent. Must order at least two to satisfy your hunger. The brisket/egg taco was satisfying. The atmosphere is a great mix of beach them with some Mexican flair. The outdoor area is great to sit. This place has been quite a few different places over the years. Let's hope it stays for a few seasons. read more

We came here 3-4 times during our recent Shore trip. The tacos were all excellent (we had the shrimp, fish, brisket, and chicken tacos ). They used cotija cheese which I really liked. Love love love this place! We came for dinner with our 1.5 year old son and it was perfect for all of us. The service was super sweet & friendly. The food was AMAZING! Went there for dinner last night (take out) and really enjoyed our burritos and tacos, the burritos are good portion size so bring an appetite. We saw that they had a breakfast menu so decided to stop by the next morning as well. Very warm and welcoming environment! The staff was very friendly and helpful and the food was out in a timely fashion, and tasted delicious. If you haven't gone yet you've gotta check this place out! Super cute location, you can sit outside if you'd like which is awesome! I'd recommend the brisket taco or the chicken those were my favs but everything was delishhhh. Wish I had gotten the fresh guac but there's always next time!!! Really wanted to like this restaurant but unfortunately not the best experience. Friendly staff, but that's the most positive I can say. The ordering at the counter and waiting for it to be delivered to your table was not very appealing. Especially considering the menu prices. It was confusing where to find utensils and condiments, not very user friendly and there were a lot of flies and little bugs buzzing around. We ate outside, again a lot of flies buzzing around. I found a dead fly on the egg in my salad, totally grossed me out. Not sure if it was there during preparation or after I started eating it. Not a good experience... won't be going back. read more

Pitiful. Just pitiful. First, the racist name of this place just oozed negativity. Next, the parking lot emits very negative vibes and i honestly believe it was designed by a 6 year old with crayons on the back of a Shoney's menu. After many minutes of calculating how tf we were going to acquire a parking spot, we managed to finagle a spot and head inside. We proceeded to order our food. As my friend Kelly was overwhelmed and not impressed with the chicken scratch chalkboard of a menu, she proceeded to request some changes to the basic menu items (which is acceptable considering the customer is always right). As she did so, a strange looking man behind the grill proceeded to snarl at her with a gaze of disgust and unpleasantness at her request. After that, when my friend asked if they had ground beef, the cashier disrespectfully clapped back with the comment "we do not have ground beef, this is a mexican restaurant". Um....what yo? no ground beef at a mexican restaurant??? like that's just the damn stupidest and asinine thing to have ever reach my ear canals. Further, we were treated with a modified bill that really threw us for a curve. 2 meals and chips for $50? maybe if the food was actually edible, i'd be willing to pay that price. Have tried this place a few times. Food usually can use more seasoning. The last time I asked for no pickled onions in my shrimp tacos, and there were pickled onions in my shrimp tacos. Oh I feel so sad writing this review. This is the kind of place you really want to succeed because you can tell the owners put a lot of heart into it, but they missed their mark 100% on the food. If you've ever had authentic Mexican food, what they're doing is unrecognizable apart from the fact they put it in taco shells and burrito wraps. I beg these guys to go on a food tour into Latin American countries and seriously figure out what makes Mexican cuisine, Mexican cuisine. This is like a watered down version of Surf Taco, and a copy from a copy is never good. Given that the food is so weak, it's exceptionally overpriced. Taco's a la carte should cost $2-3 max. Bad tacos that cost $5 and I'll never recommend or return. Best intentions, worst imposter Mexican food. A note on reviews. If a place gets nothing but 5 stars and 1 star reviews, next to nothing in between, it's fairly easy to tell that some friends are doing their friends a favor by skewing the honest reviews to paint a prettier picture. I feel they are not trying to be authentic or make relatively okay food. The rice tastes of the water it is steamed in, flavorless with no hint of lime and cilantro. Meat was flavorless and all the same color when looking from the pulled pork to the "chipotle chicken". No hint of chipotle flavor. I had higher expectations but just disappointing. Don't go here if you like food with flavor and a more authentic taste. They really need to utilize their location and get someone to help them make the food correctly. I think it could go really well for them if they take this seriously and step their game up. The staff is nice though! read more

So pleasantly surprised with this place. My family is staying down here for a little vacation. Tried a few places in the area and they were all decent. This was by far our favorite stop. Everything was delicious!!! We had the street corn (yummy) authentic quesadillas (must try) and all the taco varieties were fantastic. They didn't over or under stuff them. It was perfect. Knowing how good a burrito can be, I was sorely disappointed at how there was almost no flavor. Quite literally 0 spice, not even adobo or paprika, was found in the dish. Bare minimum effort of creating a Mexican food baby was put forth into the ingredients: lime rice, black beans, some avocado slices, and pretty OK smoked brisket. The nachos, again, were made with almost no effort: black bean and corn "salsa" at the bottom with a middle layer of tortilla chips and brisket and cheese on top, basically spitting in the face of everything about the Tex-Mex culture. For the 30$ it cost I could have went to a grocery, picked up everything I needed for burritos, and saved roughly 10$. I get that the restaurant is called Gringos, but they really went all out on creating a bland, boring, spiceless menu. read more

Just ordered two burritos from here, have to say, all of the food was delicious. The chips and guac was a HUGE portion, which was surprising because most Mexican-style places give you little guac and a massive amount of chips. Guac was fresh and tasty as well.
