I've gotten ink at 3 Grinn and Barrett locations now over the last 15 years, and while I can say the quality of the work is as great as always, I'll admit the atmosphere of the new location is better than ever. The new shop is really posh and comfortable. I felt so at ease getting work done there, in large part because of the friendliness and collaborative spirit of all the artists present that day (in addition, obviously, to the artist working on my piece). Jeremiah came up with a really original take on what I proposed, and 6 weeks later, I'm as thrilled as I was the day I got it. While he worked, several artists came by to peek, and the piercer answered my questions about some piercings I'm interested in. I'm really proud of the artwork I've received at Grinn and Barrett, and I am greatly looking forward to going back for more, soon! Went in and requested a small, simple linework tattoo from Sergio. The quality is not at all what I would expect from someone who claims to have been tattooing for 22 years. The vibe is alright, nothing special but nothing bad. When tattooing me, Sergio asked me about my major as I am a college student and he asked me if I was a "fuckin' weirdo" because most people with my major are. Turned the vibe from alright to wow, what the hell am I doing here? He finished my tattoo and it's healed now, there's a spot where the line doesn't even connect and it's not a perfect circle. Will probably get someone to fix later down the road. Literally spend your money somewhere else or get tatted by one of the other artists there, although I don't know how their work compares, I just know that I'm really glad I didn't ask for anything bigger or more complex if this is the quality of something that took all of 10 minutes. read more

So me and my fiancé and friend decided to get a very simple and small matching 2 inch tattoo of 3 triangles on our forearm when our friend flew into town. We called to see if they would do walk ins and they said yes so we came there last week. Between the 3 of us we have over 75 tattoos. This is NOT a case of not taking care of our tattoos. Sergio ended up saying he would have time for us and would charge us $130 per tattoo even though each one took about 15 minutes. We were fine with paying that because of being a walk in but we thought it was high for the simple design. We even tipped him $70. That being said each of the triangles design turned out different and even lopsided but that's not even the worst part. He kept pushing down so hard and grinding on our arms because he said the color would fade soon if he didn't. Our arms are going to be scarred because of this guy. Basically criminal what he did to us. Mine is the worst because I had the most "red". Picture might make those who are queasy feel sick. None of us have ever had anything like this happen to us on any of our other tattoos. Never again will I get any work that isn't done by my normal guy (he is appointment only). read more

Great time when i went in to get the tat, cool people, i was referred to sergio. Cool guy. 10+ years experience so i felt comfortable with him. It's been 2 months and my tat was well taken care of per instruction yet it is terribly scarred, and sensitive to the touch. It still hurts today, and i can see the many heavy lines that are now 3d. My arm is pretty much ruined, only three lines ok which were done correctly. Im sad to see this. I have 6 other tats that never healed like this at all. To much pressure and over done is my guess. Sad to say but if 10 years onto my career making that kind of damage, i would try and learn why. read more

I've gotten three tattoos at this particular shop. Each one of them was done by their main tattooing staff. My first was from Ben who did some simple script, which happened to be my first tattoo. The second one I got was from Sergio, who did a very complex eye. The third was from the shop owner, Jeremiah, who did a cross with some surrounding details. I am going to break down my experience with all three who work in the shop, and will justify the five star rating of this shop. Ben's work was fantastic. Simple script that marked a time in my life that I didn't want to forget. The lettering is very traditional, yet unique. It stands out very well and for a first tattoo it was virtually pain-free. In my opinion he has a very easy hand, great artist for your first tattoo or your 20th. Ben was amazing at doing my first tattoo. Guy is incredibly friendly and a pleasure to work with. I guess you can say his attitude, professionalism and spot-on work is what got me to keep coming back. The tattoo still looks as good as the first day it was healed up. Sergio's work on my eye tattoo was done on a walk-in Saturday. The receptionist, Frank, asked me what my rough budget was for the day and I didn't give him an insanely high number or a low one either. I have to say, the work was impeccable. I asked for a 'neo-traditional' style and got a beautiful piece of art I will be able to display for the rest of my life. I can't get over how great this work looks and can stand out a mile away. Jeremiah- did my most recent tattoo. When I went to get my previous tattoo with Sergio, my good friend got a tattoo from Jeremiah. Tattoo turned out amazing on my friend, so I went in on another walk in Saturday and was lucky enough to get Jeremiah to do mine. Jeremiah was a super down to earth guy, and I was incredibly happy with how the work turned out. I went in with a very basic picture of a wooden cross, with a stake at the bottom and told him "Do what you think will look best". After having work done by both Ben and Sergio, I was willing to take a bigger leap and let the shop owner come up with something. The wood grain is incredible, and I cant believe how well it was done. So to wrap this up you cannot go wrong with any three of the main artists here. Walk in Saturday is an absolute blast, Frank at the counter brings the conversation and everyone else in there is just having a good time. The three artists are all extremely professional and want to make sure you are happy with the end result before they take the machine to your body. There is a very good chance I have to relocate with work in the next 6 months and I plan on driving or flying back here to see these guys on Leavenworth. Honest to god- if you arent sure you want to commit to a big piece here just go check out walk in Saturday. Their pricing is very fair and to be honest I wouldn't want to be skimping on something that I'm going to have forever. read more

Was very disappointed with my visit and will never go there again, and you shouldn't either. Grinn and Barrett is the only tattoo shop I would go to. I travel from New Jersey just to see Jen. So far she has done a 1/2 sleeve and 3 smaller pieces and they are all awesome. Everyone here is very talented, very friendly, and most importantly very professional. None of the artists have any hint of an attitude. The shop has a very relaxed atmosphere. For the quality of work their prices are extremely reasonable. I've been to other shops in New York City, New Jersey, and Connecticut where I got a bad vibe and wouldn't have felt comfortable getting tattooed. I can't say enough about how good this place is. This bad review is LONG overdue but today was the FINAL STRAW.... Ive regrettably gotten a few tattoos with them in the Past year that all had to get fixed by other artists.. but today I was going to try to give them another chance because everyone else in Omaha was fully booked, Once again I was met with extremely poor customer service, Its like pulling teeth trying to have a pleasant conversation from any of the employees. I wanted to get 2 words in a small. basic font and they said it would be $100... ridiculous , and there was no negotiation. When I am getting a tattoo I think it should be common sense to be treated with some kindness, instead of leaving feeling like I just got bullied. They act like the customer is the issue and is interfering with their time. I hope and pray that people read this and are smart enough to go to a business that treats their customers with respect instead of a cow patty. Not only does this place do work that either gets infected or needs to get touched up (speaking from personal experience) but they overcharge, overwork(to make it seem like they're doing more), One time my arm was irritated/blood red for weeks because of how much an artist referred to as Sergio, spent overworking my arm.. by doing that he's making it seem like he's doing more work in the tattoo than he in fact is..which some would associate that with being con-like. After I left grinn and barret feeling horrible because of the way they treated me, I went to a NORMAL tattoo parlor and got the SAME EXACT tattoo I was asking for and had it done for $50. and I was treated how anyone should be when getting a tattoo. This place is a JOKE . no wonder they were the only tattoo Parlor in Omaha That WASN'T booked for the day. never will I go back here unless its to protest how horrible this place/employees are. ironically when I was at the nice tattoo shop I told my story to the person that tattod the design I was trying to get at grinn and Barrett and he said " I haven't heard the best things from that place ever since it was sold by its original owner" I do not recommend going here, unless u want to be dissapointed. sad business that I can't see lasting. read more

I had high hopes for this place after seeing some great work on the owner's Instagram page and mostly good reviews here. Communicated with them online to schedule a consultation which turned out to be kind of weird the first time- the owner Jeremiah was busy with clients and obviously very rushed. "Johnny" at the front desk played a middle man communicating for me to the artist Jeremiah until he finally just let me talk to him personally as he prepped for another tattoo. I felt a bit off but thought maybe it was due to the rushed nature of my consultation. Came back the next day for consult #2 with my husband and communicated very clearly all of my concerns with my current tattoo and what I would like to add onto it- providing plenty of photos just like I had at my first consultation. Jeremiah the owner reeked of cigarette butts which is off-putting to a non smoker in 95 degree heat. He had nothing prepared as far as ideas or sketches and showed no enthusiasm whatsoever to do the work, even when I asked him if he felt like he was ready to bring my idea to life. Next he demanded a $250 deposit to make a 3rd appointment and refused to sketch anything for me to visualize what the tattoo may look like on my body. Um what?! Jeremiah and Johnny just stared at me like I was being a problem- hello I'm here to give you my money and business!- Learn some people skills. As I am adding onto an old tattoo I'm tired of and simultaneously covering part of it, it is important to me to be sure it fits. Jeremiah laughed when I voiced my concerns about how it would look on my body. Clearly this is a permanent decision and not one to be rushed thru. He didn't seem to care and gave me a creepy vibe. Nobody wants to be tattooed by someone reeking of cigarettes and completely unenthusiastic about their work. If this is the owner what does it say about this shop? NO THANKS. Ladies, beware and don't put yourself into an uncomfortable situation! Great shop I'll give it that! But it was the worst tattoo experience. I wanted a small tattoo which they overcharged me for. The tattooist got frustrated and had to take a break because she wasn't doing what i asked for. During her break, her and another co-worker were speaking badly about me and their shop is wide open so i could hear everything she was saying. So i had gotten a tattoo done by Jeremiah back in December. I cant say i don't like my tattoo, although the lettering is very close. it looks like it says "I can't tell where the journey will end, but i know where to scout" instead of "I can't tell where the journey will end, but i know where to start". But unfortunately this is not my main issue. The problem i have is that I was 16 at the time and live in Iowa and drove 2 hours to get this tattoo for Christmas. I emailed the shop a picture to get a quote and got no response so my mother called and spoke to them as they were looking at the photo. Whoever she spoke to said it could be done for $250. I had the $250 and showed a picture of what i wanted once again. It was the quote previously stated and a few cherry blossoms. I was told this would be able to be done for the amount of money I had. I waited about 3 hours in the shop and it was finally my time to get tattooed. The tattoo took all of 45 minutes. I only got the quote, no flowers, because Jeremiah must not have felt up to doing them. I cant help to feel taken advantage of because I was 16 and it was my first tattoo. Now that i have spoken to multiple artists they all tell me the same thing, "Damn, you payed $250 for THAT??? they overcharged you big time!". I am very disgusted that I payed double of what it should have cost (once again i have talked to multiple artists about this), gave a 30 dollar tip, and payed for about $200 worth of gas. read more

I've had 5 tattoos done here by Jeremiah and Erik and they were great BUT my most recent was done by Jenn and the coloring is absolutely horrible. She colored parts that weren't supposed to be colored, she went out of the lines, the shading isn't smooth at all. It looks like a bunch off dots. I never write reviews but after paying $450 for this tattoo that I'm going to have to have fixed by someone else, I felt a review was necessary. read more

NOT THE BEST! I went to the shop and showed Jen what I have and told her what I wanted. She said she could do it and I left a deposit and made an appointment. I went through alot of hassle with driving and childcare to go in for my appointment. Jen remembered what I had asked for and said she couldn't do it. She said she couldn't match the font I have. She was really insistent on one alternative that didn't appeal to me. Further, her suggestion was to tattoo an area that I had previously had tattooed at another shop. That work never stayed in and I've paid $150 to have it removed, so I was leary of having that area tattooed again. Since it didn't seem she could do anything for me, I asked for my deposit back. Initially, she refused. When I explained that I wouldn't have given the deposit if she hadn't said she could do what I wanted, she said that someone would cut me a check the next week. The next week came and went. I called and spoke to her again and still no check. I called and left her a message... no call back and still no check.... read more
