We very much enjoyed our time on Sunday with Shira getting one of her flash tattoos for April! It was very great to be able to feel comfortable and prepared before getting the tattoo. This is my favorite tattoo shop! I've been to several and this has been the best experience so far. We had Shira tattoo her April flash designs, I got the flower and my husband got the monstera plant. The process goes: complete an interest form online, they call to chat and set you up an appointment time with your preferred artist, go in and pay the down payment (CASH ONLY), they fill you in on the day-of process, and you go for your appointment. They were super clear and communicative about the process for everything, and very kind the whole time. Shira was fabulous, she didn't rush us even when my husband couldn't decide on size or placement. She was thorough, her designs incredible, did a great job, and even consulted about a cover up I want done. We're looking forward to having her do future tattoos! The shop is so cool, I loved just walking around. They have tons of merch and other cool stuff, but another warning it's all cash-only. They have an ATM on site if you need one. Just got my second tattoo at Black Squirrel - which is my second tattoo ever :) Both times it was a smooth process and the shop is very welcoming. Plus the artists were patient with me as I'm pretty wimpy when it comes to pain tolerance. Love both the tattoos. I'm a cat mom so I had to get something kitty related. The paw tattoo was done by Jake just this Saturday at the Muddy Paws fundraiser they were hosting (and I found out the design I selected was Claire's who is a former student!). The kitty with the flowers was done by Shari a couple of years ago. Six flowers for six cats I've had over the years. The pics aren't super clear, but I'm very happy with my tattoos. read more

I started my tattoo journey at Big Brain to get a quote. First of all, I came in and was treated as if they were doing me a favor. After being quoted they didn't even offer to help me get what I wanted within my price range. The same day, I came into Black Squirrel. I've been in the process of getting a cover-up chest piece done here by Penny Stahr for about 3 months now, and I've gotta say as someone with a good amount of ink, this is one of if not the best shop I've been to. Now with tattoo shops you expect a certain amount of attitude and a specific personality when you walk through the door, but this really isn't much the case here. The staff is friendly and professional, and the work is fantastic. Please be aware that with tattoos you get what you pay for. Sure you can go somewhere and pay 30 bucks and get a scratcher to put a half-assed butterfly on your hip, and have it fade and heal weird, and possibly still be raised a year later. OR, you can go to a good shop like black squirrel and you'll pay ~120/hour, but the quality of the work is so well worth it. Can't recommend this shop enough. read more

I have been here 3 times for myself and 1 time for a friend. I have to say I will always be returning here. I had 2 of mine done by Shari and my biggest one done by Stacey. Shari gave me my first tattoo and she was very informative on the step by step and made sure I was as comfortable as possible. And she also did my second tattoo and during the process made sure I was doing okay. My biggest tattoo was done by Stacey which was about a 4-5 hour process. Very comfortable! She did so good! I am very pleased with the results and everything surrounding my appointments. I recommended my sister to this shop because I've only ever heard good things about it and was planning on getting a part of my sleeve done there. She went in today, and her artist acted like he wanted nothing less than to tattoo her. She left without any sort of aftercare instruction, and she felt uncomfortable the whole time. The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because of the other great things I've heard. I would NEVER go there after what happened today. I've gotten most of my tattoos here by Matt D. and one by Mel. I have had a few large pieces done. I came in a few months before I wanted to get tattooed as I know a talented artist will be booked well over a month at a time. I always make an appointment for a consultation as I like to talk directly with the artist. This is a must or you are going to go through the receptionist and have her take it to the artist. Which is OK because I feel she is very knowledgeable on the subject of tattoos. I usually bring in a portfolio of references that pertain to my idea. Matt is very aware as to what will work and what does not. It doesn't mean he does not want to tattoo you. Remember this is a lifetime commitment. Matt and Mel have put together some unique and beautiful work for me. I am always treated with respect. This is a very upscale shop with private rooms. This is by far my favorite tattoo shop in Omaha. I'm incredibly picky when it comes to somebody putting ink on my skin; so after looking at countless portfolios Matt turned out to be my top choice. He has done three tattoos on my arm so far and I couldn't be happier with the results (hence the reason I go back). I haven't personally had any work done by Mel, but I've seen her impressive work on others. These artists can't seem to disappoint. Talented artists for sure. But 2nd time in & I was treated very unprofessionally. Front counter staff clearly unorganized. & gave artist incorrect info. My character was attacked in front of other customers based purely off misinformation given by front counter staff. I was in the middle of finishing a tattoo & sadly I'm now in search of a new artist. I will not go back there & will not recommend them either. I went in to the shop which is kind of in a rough area but the inside is very clean and professional . I didnt have an exact drawing of what I wanted but I had about five references on what flowers I wanted and the style and size. I wasnt able to talk to the artist but the secretary who was very nice. She went bak and forth telling the artist then telling me what he said for about 20 min. I was very spacific on what I wanted. with vines and the style. I waited 2 months and came in for the tattoo and during that time I sent emails to the shop saying specifics and such. There were about 10 emails back and forth. then I came in early to maybe talk about it a little before it was done. About 5 min before the appointment I saw the artist just print the flowers I wanted next to each other and trace it.... It was no where near what I wanted. He told me it would be moosh and impossible to do what I want. I just dont know why I even gave references when i could have just sent the names of the four flowers and picked the first google reference and throw it on me. I just would have liked to know he didnt want to do the tattoo before I waited 2 months and gave them $40 and the appointment was here. If you dont have a VERY specific tattoo that is the actual picure of it not a few references it has to be SPELLED out on what you want. He is a good artist his tatoos are beautiful but leave none to creativity just copy and past from what you give him.
