Sunday morning, Margot and I joined the kids here for breakfast. We started with coffee for Margot, an espresso for me, plus a mimosa and a tequila sunrise. Margot didn't finish her mimosa. I did finish the tequila sunrise, although calling it a tequila sunrise was generous. It was mostly a very sweet sunrise with rumors of tequila. Margot said her coffee was good, so we were off to a promising start. Then the food arrived. Cold. Margot ordered a breakfast bowl with the beef protein, which was so overcooked and so aggressively salted that she removed it from the bowl and left it on the plate. I assume it is still preserved somewhere in the restaurant and should remain perfectly edible well into the next century. Another person in our party ordered the same dish and had exactly the same experience with the protein. I keep using the word "protein" because I'm hesitant to call it meat--or beef, as the menu does--after seeing what actually arrived at the table. Whatever journey it took from cow to breakfast bowl clearly included several additional steps that were not necessary. I had two eggs, three sausage links and three pieces of bacon. Apparently the kitchen was equally concerned about my long-term preservation because the sausage and bacon contained enough salt to qualify as cured building materials. Both meals came with one piece of their "world famous" sourdough toast. One. Calling it a piece may also be generous. It was sliced thin enough that, under proper lighting, I believe you could read a newspaper through it. Another piece would have been appreciated, particularly considering toast appears to be part of the restaurant's identity. Service was an interesting team-building exercise. One person took our order, another brought drinks, someone else brought food, and yet another person checked the table. I believe we interacted with four different employees, which made it impossible to build any rapport with an actual server. Nobody was particularly terrible. Nobody seemed particularly responsible for us either. We didn't feel rushed, which was nice. The restaurant wasn't very busy when we arrived but was absolutely packed by the time we left, with people lining up at the door. One thing we noticed on the way out: the restaurant itself looks great. Whoever designed the place clearly spent some serious time on Pinterest, and unlike the kitchen, they actually executed the assignment. At this point, Toasted may want to seriously consider a pivot. Close the kitchen, leave the furniture exactly where it is, and start designing restaurants for people who know how to cook. Because whoever is responsible for the interior clearly understands what a restaurant is supposed to look like. Now they just need someone who understands what the food is supposed to taste like. So clearly Toasted has found its audience. If you enjoy cold food, aggressively salted mystery protein, cocktails where the liquor is largely theoretical, and world-famous sourdough with the dimensions and structural characteristics of cardboard, you may have found your Sunday brunch destination. If you're preparing your body for long-term winter storage, even better. Margot and I will probably just admire the Pinterest board from a safe distance. read more

It tasted frozen. The grilled chicken added to our Chilaquiles was rubbery and very non-fresh tasting. Like on par with Taco Bell chicken. And the price points kinda reveal this. You can't do a plate with freshly cooked chicken for $13. The salsa and overall vibe on the Chilaquiles was very average. Nothing like some homemade versions I've had. Wow--this place is absolutely beautiful. The atmosphere and ambiance are wonderful and really stand out. Yesterday was my first time visiting, and I came for lunch after a friend recommended it for breakfast. The restaurant wasn't busy (maybe around 7 tables), but I sat for over 10 minutes without being greeted, even though staff walked by several times. I honestly almost got up and left. I had to ask the next table if I was supposed to order at the bakery. Eventually, a server came over to ask what I wanted to drink, and at that point I placed my full order. The food, however, was very good. I had the turkey pesto, and it was delicious. I also ordered a salad with the vinaigrette dressing--it was more oil than flavor, so I wish it had a bit more taste. Overall, the place is gorgeous and the food is solid, and I'd love to bring my family here. That said, the staff could definitely improve on attentiveness. Overall good experience! The food was tasty and had large portions. The decor and design inside is very cute and summery. The bakery/ pastry area was also adorable and featured many options that I will plan to try next time. Our server was very nice and joked along with us. The only downside is that the kitchen seems to be very particular with keeps menu items exactly as they are written on the menu. And you walk right past the display case of beautiful pastries that I, unfortunately turned down. My companion had a made to order omelette with potatoes rated it a 9/10. Her mango matcha was a 10/10. I had the avocado toast with the side salad. I would say the toast was 9/10 and the side salad was 10/10. It had a delicious ginger dressing. We made a return after its soft open where we experienced a delays/complications with check out. What is the same? The restaurant remains clean and bright, a nice inviting ambiance. Their waitress (at least the one we have been assigned to) have been very friendly and do an excellent job tending to the table (making sure drinks are topped and coming back frequently to make sure we are ready and everything is going well). The food was still delicious! What has changed? The wait time was significantly lower this round. The process to charge after picking/charging us for it pastries was flawless. The staff was able to resolve questions quickly and satisfactorily. Order to table time was also much faster this round. Overall experience? They have done a fantastic job smoothing out operations without compromising experience and quality. Toasted has a nice comfortable well designed bright decor. However, because of the low decorative dividers you can often feel as if you are sitting with a group of strangers. We have eaten breakfast here five times since their opening because of a single menu item (NYC Bagel) that my husband feels is good enough reason for the visit. I however, have not experienced the same satisfaction with any of the five different items I have ordered. The potatoes, home fries are tiny cubes, seasoned and apparently cooked well in advance as the were cold twice, hash browns (patties similar to McDonalds) were grossly overcooked to the point of being hard. Seasoning for both bacon and sausage links (also precooked and maybe warm) was far too salty. I did have the waffle (more of a Belgium style) served with marmalade twice and although satisfactory it was nothing special and I would not visit solely for that item. Be aware that small add on's such as a bit more salad dressing will be billed at an additional fee. Service, with the exception of frequently warm to cold food, has been good with knowledgeable and very personable servers. Cost overall for breakfast is reasonable. My husband is very satisfied with Toasted. For me however, I would prefer to dine elsewhere even though it is only breakfast. read more

We were taken care of by Ariel Clark, who was incredibly sweet and attentive from the moment we arrived. She greeted us with a warm smile and congratulated not only me, but my mother as well -- even recognizing that I was her first baby, which made the moment even more special. I ordered the All American with scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries, and perfectly toasted sourdough with jelly just how I requested. Everything was delicious and prepared beautifully. What truly made our visit unforgettable were the heartfelt words she shared with us at the end of our lunch. Hi! My Grandma found this place and absolutely loves it. After she brought me there for brunch, I can see why. Here's my amazing experience at Toasted: We went on a Tuesday morning and it was not busy at all. It was nice to have the place to ourselves, though I'm sure it's packed on a weekend. As soon as we walked in, I was in love with the atmosphere! The greenery, the tall ceilings, the decor was all gorgeous. I loved all of the light coming in from the big windows, making this a cheery morning. The service was fabulous (as it should be on a slow day). Everything was timely and the waitress accommodated my grandma's requests. There was so much I wanted to try on the menu that it took me a while to decide. I started with the Paradise smoothie which includes mango, strawberry, banana, and mint. This smoothie was delicious and not overpriced. Eventually I settled on The California sandwich. I would go back to Toasted just to eat this sandwich again. The olive focaccia bread was so soft but not too oily, and all of the ingredients in this sandwich were just perfect. The spicy mayo was a nice touch. I can't stop thinking about the bread though. My grandma loved her Chicken Cheddar soup, noting that the broccoli tasted great. My sister and I arrived early, right at opening time and were seated right away with no wait. We both liked the bright interior and space between tables. Our server was really patient with us, as we took some time to make a decision. She opted for the avocado toast and I landed on the breakfast pita. We also ordered a drinks, dirty chai for her cinnamon latte for me. Our drinks came out first and after a few sips, I realized I got a Toasted latte (I think) vs the cinnamon. I wasn't especially bothered but we were still the only patrons in the restaurant so that kind of mix up was unexpected. But, I didn't mention it. Our food was good, I liked having greens on the side. I would have preferred crumbled sausage in the pita vs cut links-the pieces rolled out of an already messy sandwich and I was constantly stuffing them back in. The avocado toast looked good with a nice pile of bacon. We added a chocolate scone to our order-you pass a pastry case on the way in. Beware. Anyway, it came out, we enthusiastically tucked in and oh my gosh. The salt level was sky high-the elevated my heart rate, my sister said her tongue had a burning feeling kind of high. Obviously there was some kind of mishap in the preparation. Absolutely not edible. My first experience getting something I couldn't eat for a reason like this. We said something to the server and she mentioned there had been other complaints about the scone. I don't know why they were still out. She took it off our check, we paid and left.
