One of the staff members also highlighted , that you can bring items from outside the store. I that was good to know. When you personalize an item, it makes it more special in my opinion. I chose this small business expecting attention to detail and care. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience. I was told a single seam would need to be opened to do the embroidery. I declined their suggestion to use vinyl, as I didn't want to compromise the tie's quality. I asked that the seamstress call me before beginning. Instead, I got a text from an unknown number -- not ideal, but I went along with it. I agreed to remove one seam and requested the thread be saved for color-matching later. That was dismissed, and the tone quickly became curt and unhelpful. A week later, I picked up the tie to find it had been completely taken apart -- far beyond what was discussed -- and the monogram design looked nothing like what we agreed on. The sun graphic resembled a blotch or bug, not the clean symbol I requested. The seamstress never spoke with me directly, and the staff simply offered excuses. What I would've appreciated most was honesty. If they couldn't meet my request, I would've gladly taken my business elsewhere. Instead, I spent $180 on the tie, $35 on the monogram, and now another $30 to have it repaired -- all for a result I didn't ask for. I don't take writing negative reviews lightly, but I hope this encourages Monogram Lady to communicate more clearly and stand behind their work.

I cannot believe that Marigold - Gateway to India was on S. Lamar when I lived on S. Lamar. Walking into the shop felt like being transported to Bangalore or Rajasthan, India. Marigold is rooted in vibrant color, texture, and uniquely Indian pieces. The overhead draped colorful cloth added to the ambience. The store offers a curated selection of Indian clothing, jewelry, accessories, and gifts. The quality and variety of the merchandise was immediately noticeable. From traditional and contemporary clothing for women, men, and children to unique accessories and decorative pieces, everything feels authentic. Lata, the owner, was super nice and welcoming! I had been driving around for a while searching for some really beautiful vintage dresses and shoes. Her reason was that she didn't want us taking up space for "real" customers. No explanation beyond that, no alternative offered, even after I responded to her question about whether or not the Girl Scouts would be spending money at her store. (Yes, she actually asked me that. My response was that they were all instructed to bring $30 but it was up to them to choose to spend it at her store or not.) As someone who reached out in good faith, I found the interaction dismissive and unwelcoming. The customer experience was a stark contrast to the warm, community-focused image the business owner projects. If you're a school group, troop, or youth organization looking for a welcoming community partner and experience in Austin, I'd look elsewhere. Imagine being a female owner of a community-focused business and NOT partnering with Girl Scouts. Mind blown.
