On our last night in Paris we were wandering around looking for a place to eat. We came upon Grizzli and the menu looked good (not too many entrees, which is a good sign). The food was excellent, particularly the Onion soup and the Lamb Confit. The staff was just so friendly, and after our dessert (also wonderful), Violet (the owner) came over with 4 glasses and some Armagnac, which she explained was a drink from her native part of France. We chose Grizzli for a quick pre dinner drink. The staff is warm and welcoming and excited to speak English to the patrons. We were originally sitting on the furthest table into the pedestrian walk until the server noticed we were cold and moved us under the heat lamps. Grizzli offers happy hour specials, good music, and excellent people watching. We decided to order a snack and the server convinced us to switch our order to the happy hour platter, which was fries, falafel, risotto bites, and cornflake chicken ‍. This platter of fried food was gross. The falafel was a mushy ball of batter, I was only able to identify it was falafel because it was listed as an item in the platter. The risotto ball was delicious. The fries were soggy and all broken little bits of fries, and the chicken felt twice fried over cooked and tough. This place has me torn on my review. The drinks and atmosphere are good at happy hour, but that's about all they have to offer. We were ready to order the risotto balls to share when the waiter talked us into the fried combo plate that comes with everything. What a disappointment! The risotto balls were absolutely delicious but it came with ONE of them. How is that shareable!? It also came with ONE felafel and two pieces of corn flake covered chicken. The rest was all really terrible frites! So he talked us into spending double the price for a terrible plate when the risotto ball plate would have been amazing for us. I know in France they don't care about table service the same way we do in the US but this was beyond the usual (we ate at a dozen other restaurants on our trip and nowhere was the service as bad as here). And in an area where they are literally surrounded by two dozen other cafes, they could do better. Two different waiters ignored our repeated requests for a carafe of water, and one never brought the second round of drinks we ordered. Then he proceeded to take a cig break with his pal at the table right next to us. A great find for a rainy Sunday night. The confit de canard and frites were brilliant - really. As a matter of fact, I'd have a difficult time getting something different next time. But maybe the first time is always the best...I don't know? For desert I had tatin de pommes which is sort of like apple pie without the crust - served with creme fraiche - it was also very good. The decor is warm and inviting. Lighting is just right and seating is typically intimate. Service was friendly and well paced and the wine was not overly priced. Yelp is fairly reliable in metropolitan areas where it's well established. I didn't research Grizzli Cafe and we more or less stumbled inito a cool situation. Serendipity in finding a nice restaurant is a real high point for me these days. I gotta think about that. Anyway, if your in the first or sort of on edge of the fourth (heading into the Marais), this is definitely worth checking out. Stopped in on a whim, glad we did. Had the special of the day, I won't try and spell the name but it's a salmon dish wrapped in pastry, similar to a beef Wellington. Excellent. OH MY GOSH. (I like that another reviewer started out like this as well, that certainly says something). The food here is incredible. We were really really lucky to come here. This place was by far my most favorite meal in Paris. At the beginning of the night we were at another restaurant- we hadn't been greeted, no menu, the people next to us had been waiting 45 minutes for their food, a waiter just dropped a massive stack of dishes, and more and more people were seating themselves. Nightmare! So we left, and found the most romantic and fantastic place EVER! Grizzli Cafe is an intimate little cafe that provided a warm and relaxing place to wind down after a long day. Everywhere else was packed, usually this isn't a good sign, but everything here was wonderful. We began with the recommended wine- Chateau Grazin- Montaigu (I hope I wrote that right). The wine was very very good and light, I loved it! That's about as specific as I get with wine unfortunately. My boyfriend ordered the duck skewers with a peanut sauce and I had chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. Oh dear lord, when I'm feeling homesick on Thanksgiving I might just book a flight to Paris and have this dish again. It was phenomenal. The chicken was cooked with just the right amount of love! It had a crispy skin and ever so juicy meat. And the gravy- oh the gravy! It was probably the best gravy I've ever had, and it complimented the mashed potatoes beautifully. All I can say is wow. My boyfriend really liked his meal. The duck was tasty and the peanut sauce was very unique. It had extremely bold flavors that were unexpected but very very good. Wife and I were wandering the streets in desperate need for food and a drink. We were completely overwhelmed with options and every bar and restaurant were completely packed for happy hour on a Thursday night, which is from 1700-2100 hrs at most places. We stopped and looked at menus at about 15 places and they all began to run together, looking the same. We found Grizzli by chance AND they had a few tables left. Whew! The service was typical, no rush, no hurry to take your order but once ordered the food came quickly! We ordered beers and they hit the spot, cold and delicious. We had the Duck Confit Spring rolls and baked chicken with sweet mashed potatoes. It was VERY good. We would definitely go back but in a sea of restaurants, your options are endless. Trip adviser says this is a five star. This gets four because I never give five. But the food is incredible. One of the appetizers is artichoke hearts stuffed with some kind of French cheese. Truly amazing, great flavors. Even better if you put a little on your baguette. The Caesar salad with a poached egg on top was also incredible. The chicken seem to be marinated and falls apart with your fork. It includes regular Parmesan snd a fairly large Parmesan crisp that you break up like a little croutons. We could've stop there but we still had two more main courses.The first was the fish tartare and the second was the duck breast. Both were also fantastic. read more

I went with my friends whose French was not so good and the staff were very accommodating. Mostly French clientele, but it's in a somewhat touristy area, so expect some fellow tourists. Stopped in with my 4 kids under 6 and my wife, and was very happy with the choice. The staff were so welcoming, especially with the kids. Tolerated our bad French and spoke English well. Small space but very good food and had kids options (that were surprisingly large). Wasn't crowded when we were there but has upstairs space too which makes it larger. This restaurant was the first place we ate after landing in Paris and it was right next to our hotel. There were a lot of locals and no Americans, which is usually a good indication that the food is good. It was all delicious. We had very simple selections - mozzarella sticks and risotto balls for appetizers and a bowl of penne and a steak for entrees. Everything is very good and perfect for lunch. I was nervous because we do not speak the language, but the server was very nice and informative and patient with us. We also liked that it was indoor/outdoor seating. Lunch here was great. Very comfortable, dark cafe downstairs and upstairs more seating, all white, lots of light overlooking the sidewalk. We had two kids with us (6yo and 12yo) and had no issues with the space or menu. Service was friendly, attentive, and in English once he heard us talking. Thanks for that, Grizzli. The burger was crazy good and big enough for kids to share plus incredible frites. My husband had the roast chicken which was a bit dry but the gravy more than made up for that. I had a salad with roasted eggplant a and peppers plus goat cheese rolled in prosciutto. A dessert was a lovely cheesecake and something like carmalized banana crepes. All awesome. The wine offerings were good and affordable and we had a delicious Rhone blend. A this is near our hotel we'll certainly be coming back. So glad we found it. read more

Staying in this neighborhood and went here to grab a quick, early dinner after a long day of sightseeing. Quick service but clearly messing with tourists. We are pretty seasoned travelers ..I had the smash burger...it was served on a dyed red bun which was gross looking and tasting. It was covered in some kind of mayo based sauce that kinda tasted like tartar sauce. I was starving so ate the meat which was just meh. Hubs had the fish and chips which he liked. Hubs wanted the poached pear for dessert.. it came out immediately and waiter told this stupid story about a mistake for someone else. It was cold and had some weird kind of crumbs...just one more action to take advantage of theoretically unknowing tourists. Biggest irritant was that we used a credit card to pay and the waiter asked for a tip which in any language is just plain rude and tacky.we all know tipping is not expected in France and it is a total smack in the face. New owners perhaps this year (2014) and many changes. No longer as good or as inviting as before. The new red color scheme and 60/70s music has changed the atmosphere towards touristy and the food and service leave much to be desired. Sadly, Le Grizzli can no longer be recommended. read more

Wedged between the Marais and Les Halles,close to Beaubourg is this great little Bistro/Café-Brasserie. Le Grizzli, a popular bistro for about a century, was taken over by new owners and renamed Grizzli Café. The new ownership has brought with it a more modern décor and menu. I love to try new restaurants, however, I eat here every time I am in Paris. Basically in the Gayborhood. you can dine late with typical hours of 09:00-01:00 am. My sensory memory will not allow me to forget the roast leg of duck! They offer a house wine with their own label. If you are not familiar with wine or wine pairings they are more than happy to assist you. I have had the house wine and the Malbec which was excellent with the duck. The desserts are fantastic as well. I don't typically order a pastry or dessert after dinner but they looked so tempting. I have never asked to be seated upstairs but I have been up to view the dining room and use the WC. I prefer just to sit just inside the front door or on the patio if it is a nice day. This is a touristy area but this is on a side street so be sure to map it. I have eaten there with Paris locals and with out the locals and the service has always been great. I believe they understand the tourist market and prepare food the is like a home cooked meal with bistro dining flare. I cannot wait to return and experience Grizzli Café once again. read more

I was visited Paris for a weekend and was unsure of where to dine for the evening. We walked past this cafe and saw the menu looked appetizing, so we opted to sit inside. The owner greeted us, sat us and gave us menus. We ordered the ravioli, lamb shank and lamb stew. Everything was homemade, and it was delicious! One of the best meals I've ever had.
