This a really good go to spot at the base. We often come here for a beverage and an app. Service is great! We've gotten to know a few of the servers and the host; awesome crew! The food can often come out fast because they have runners. We tend to wait a bit before ordering food. It can get busy here, it is right at the base after all. I've been going to Grizzlys for over 10 years if not more. Always great times! After doing some runs I'll head over for a lunch break, grab a sip and rest a bit. The drinks are usually on point as they were on this visit. But this time around I ordered a Grilled Cheese for about $14.. For the price you'd expect a good sandwich cooked correctly right? Well.. Honestly, I think they put the bread in a toaster, threw a piece of cheese on it.. Held it under a heat lamp to kinda try to melt the cheese then topped it with another toasted slice of bread because is was dry as hell. Definitely was not cooked with butter on a flat top. I could tell because the cheese wasn't melted onto the bread. Fries were luke warm as if they were lying in wait to be taken away.. Just not the best etiquette.. Not for the price. My cat could make a better sandwich. So no.. I wouldn't order their Grilled Cheese again.. Now if it was done right we might have a different story and better review. The bar service people were super cool though. The food prep isn't their fault. Very nice staff. Great libations. As far as ambiance, it's your typical ski lodge Bar. Everything was great at grizzly's other than our server. Quick wait times, good atmosphere, good bar selection. However David, our server, completely ruined the experience. We were having a great first day on the mountain until we were met with eye rolls and attitude upon introduction to David. We attempted to order drinks and he flat out refused to serve us and created an uncomfortable mess for our entire group. Such a shame a great day was impeded by David. Ok well it's pandemic times to start.... The only thing that is affecting on this place is having a large, fun, bar like feel. That's ok though because the wonderful servers, def. including Dawn, delicious food and good drinks make up for it!!! So this is one of the many great places to stop in Stratton Mountain town to eat, right when you come down, I mean it doesn't get much more convenient then that!!! Stop in here today and ordered up a BLT Sandwhich and to try and be a little healthy I got the kale salad with quinoa on the side.... I never eat kale.... So the food comes out and I see a heaping serving of green,fresh as could be kale....I'm not a kale person, I do not ever eat kale by Choice other than blended in a shake.... WELLL...... That has changed!!! The side salad was utterly delicious and not really soaked in a dressing or anything. I could've had the largest bowl of this stuff ever!!!!! The BLT alwayssssss hits the spot it's so banging!!! Sourdough bread, generous mayonnaise, the maple bacon is thick and well cooked and always fresh avocado and tomato. Simple but done perfectly!!!! Yum yum yum! Grizzlys has an awesome spot at the end of the maintain where you can watch people rush down the mountains with a nice cocktail in hand. I would say grizzlys has a nice balance of healthy-ish food and stuff that's absolutely terrible for you. They do not have a huge wine selection, but they make up for it fancy cocktails. I highly recommend the warm cider - it comes piping hot so sip with caution. For a quick snack we ordered the mozzarella sticks and the pita and hummus. Please note that the pita isn't classic pita bread, it's pita chips which are absolutely delicious. read more

Cold day on the mountain this place was just packed with people having a some drinks to stay warm. There was a wait for the tables and the food looked good. Nice size portions of nachos and i saw leftovers on all the tables. Either they weren't that good or people just don't know how to finish a meal. But I am just here to get some liquid warmth. I had to wait 5 min at the bar to get a drink. Lots of the basic domestic beers on tap along with a couple Long trails. 6 dollar pints and they do sell tall boys of PBR. The Hasselhoff is a water-down Screwdriver. I'm not sure why I thought it would be good. I didn't know what to get so I gave the waitress a multiple choice question. She was game and my chicken parm sandwich was good. (cue Peyton manning) The fries were excellent. The waitress was super patient. Overall, service at Stratton is really great. Grizzlys? Grizzlys! Grr... rawr On a Saturday afternoon Grizzlys was PACKED like a sardine can (minus the fish smell, mind you) and ridiculously busy. We waited quite a while for a table and as you can expect, service was slower than a horde of elderly women on a shopping trip to Walmart. I ended up there after the shuttle bus to our lodge never showed so I wasn't expecting to eat much. The menu is varied and rather friendly to those of all tastes with everything from pizza, to wraps, salads and sandwiches - very appropriate for lunch. I opted for a blue cheese chicken club sandwich topped with caramelized onions. Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations and was pleasantly surprised with my meal. It was a little sloppily put together but other than that, no complaints. Ample funk cheese and onions, my breath was lovely afterwards. The waffle fries that complimented the sandwich fondly reminded me of diner fries I used to eat when I was younger. Not bad grizzlys, not bad. Had I not been literally smushed up against the next table I would have enjoyed my food even more. Its a well known fact that Vermont likes it's craft beer. You'll be sure to find that expressed on the drink menu. The unfiltered UFO beer is where its at. Back on long island its something you'll rarely find (along with some of the other beers) so try something new. A few beers could even make you a better skier ! Eh. I may sound like an old lady here, but turn that music down! Please. I just spent the entire day shredding the mountain and I don't want a cover band screaming songs at me. It wasn't an easy listening cover band either. They were "singing" Eminem, Beastie Boys, and Kid Rock. Can you chill with all that noise? I can't. It makes more sense if they get an acoustic set up there. The good things about this place is all the Long Trail on tap and the location. Its right at the bottom of the mountain, so really easy to get to when you need a break from shredding the gnar, or popping ollies. read more

I'm upset to write this review. I really love Stratton, I think the mountain is great, and I really like Grizzlies. The bar tenders are wonderful, the scene is really fun, but the person pricing the food menu must not be from planet earth, and the person (not chef) making the food clearly isn't eating what he's making. To be short and to the point, we ordered chicken nachos and wings. The chicken nachos cost us $17 ($12 for the tortilla chips, $5 for the chicken). They were terrible; the salt was off the chart - my wife feels like hell. Then the wings... I had to ask the bar tender if the bill was right. For 12 wings, they charged $18 - $1.50 per wing. That's like offering a $12 happy hour draft "specials" (they'll probably figure out how to do this too). Oh, and the quality of wings left much to be desired. For the person managing the place. I'm a frequent customer and bring a lot folks in from out of town. If the food was priced right, I'd be a repeat customer. Instead, you got $30 for $5 of product. Maybe that model works for you, but Im certain I would have spent much more in the long run. For the skiers and riders out there, keep shredding! Drink beer at Grizzles, enjoy the scene, but only order from the menu if your prepared to lose the magic that we all seek so dearly. read more

Great food, great service and great entertainment. Unfortunatly, there were several kids running from one end of the restarant to the other for well over an hour and a half. Considering the MASSES of hungry and thirsty skiers Grizzlies has to seat and feed, they do an amazing job. They have started seating by list which eliminates folks camping at tables and one having to sweat finding an open seat as soon as a party leaves. You don't have too many options when you're at Stratton, and this place gets PACKED. We ended up here on a busy New Years weekend and wanted to watch Penn State. There is one big tv and two smaller ones. The hostess was nice enough to move us to a table that had a clearer view of the game. The beer was good with some nice local options. The menu appeared to have some nice, albeit standard choices. We opted for Wings and Chicken Parm sandwich. The wings were phenomenal but not as warm as I'd expected fresh out of the kitchen. The Chicken Parm should be avoided. For the price it was a poor excuse of a sandwich, just some chicken tenders lazily thrown on a roll. read more

This restaurant was adorable. Richard B and I stopped for a quick beer before heading over to the Sun Bowl and getting back on the awesome Ovrride bus that offered us this awesome day snowboarding. They had lots of different kinds of beers, they were big on pizza, wings, nachos and ribs. We had a Longtrail ale and another darker beer. They were yummy, and if we could have stuck around until 3:30 PM we would have caught the live bands. I really love Stratton for a close and convenient mountain. So worth it. read more

I used to look forward to eating here, it was one of my favorite guilty pleasures. there used to be excellent nachos, now they're smothered in some kind of "cheese flavored ooze" no beans or onions or jalapenos or any of the tasty things that were the nachos of the past. i hope someone (INTRAWEST) will just realize that some things do not need to be changed, especially when they were perfect to begin with. i would love to go back and find those nachos of the past, and change this post to the 5 star rating that i know they're capable of. read more

This bar is one of the main reasons why I love coming to Stratton so much. The square shape of the bar makes it accessible, though when it's peak hours it is hard to squeeze in and order a drink since people also sit and eat at the bar. But if you know the right times to come it's nice to grab a table inside, outside or right at the bar. The drinks are great (who doesn't love a beer after a day of skiing). The food is pretty good but overpriced but hey that's ski resorts for ya. The nachos are absolutely huge and come in yummy variations like BBQ or Buffalo. The bar really picks up after 4 and when we were there on a Saturday they had this AMAZING live band playing. People were dancing on tables and the bar and just absolutely having a great time (even the bartenders). Also gotta give a shoutout to Sammy the bartender for being an absolute gem. He's super outgoing, funny and a huge reason why we kept eating upstairs instead of downstairs in the cafeteria. read more

What a shit show this place is on a crowded weekend! I came in Friday and the service was okay, because it wasn't that crowded. John the bartender serving that section of the bar next to the window took my order and I was able to enjoy a cold beer at the end of the day. I left the tab open as I often do, because at the bottom of the ski slope, this is the defacto meeting spot. It's a great location overlooking the mountain where you can get a beer while still in your gear. I was going to order a pizza and another beer, but the bar was too crowded, someone had perched their kids at a few of the seats I was eying at the bar, so all I wanted was to close out my tab. John was not to be found, so I had another bartender take my pass and close me out. after waiting a little bit he came back and said "what did you just have one beer?" I said "Yes" and he said "don't worry about it!" I thought that was a nice gesture to comp me for the beer. I went to Bar 802 and bumped into some people there, but it was also too crowded, so I ended up at The Fire Tower where I finally got a seat at the bar and ordered a cocktail and some food. Saturday I ended up at the bar at Grizzly's again, but it was insanely crowded and there was a band. John the bartender did not acknowledge me and served two people I was ahead of, before getting to me. At which point he got gruff with me for not paying for my beer on Friday. I told him about giving my pass to another bartender, but he still was gruff with me. It was literally 25 minutes to get a beer this time, I was one of more than a few customers not pleased with the service. I closed out and was charged for the beer I thought I was comped on Friday. John could clearly not handle the section of the bar he had staked out as his, and there did not appear to be any teamwork going on with John and the other bartenders, like you would see in a well run crowded bar anywhere else, doing a high volume business and customers were walking away. This bar could be much better run and there could be better teamwork with some of the bartenders when it's busy. Alterra management should just come in under cover and check out how awful the service really gets when it's crowded, so they can see how much money they are actually losing and fix the problem! read more

Wanted to take a break from snowboarding and walked into the main lodge (grizzlys) for a drink and a bite. First, I was told to put my name on the list to be seated... who wants to reserve seating with gear on and intent to not stay long???? I was told I can only grab s drink then from the bar... again no seats available. A waitress(Ashley) overheard me telling a friend how the bar is chaotic and unorganized. She promptly found us a seat and table and was apologetic. She was pleasant and energetic. I don't have high expectations of bar food but $4 for a tiny bowl of salad is absurd. Other patrons were turned away for not "putting their name on the list" for seating. Some bartenders were unfriendly and appeared to not want to be bothered with questions or placing orders for drinks. I was looking forward to the new and improved Grizzly's, but WOW, as David C. said, what was a classic apres ski bar and restaurant it is now ruined. I really wish they could bring back the old Grizzly's. I love all the bartenders but unfortunately the vibe isn't the same and I really dislike it. I was a regular weekend visitor but with the menu change and the lack of character - I tend to make my way into the village to give my business to Bar 802, Mulligan's, or Green Door. The Stage. Rather than being tucked in the corner, as it once was, it is now imposing front and center. It makes moving around the bar difficult and overall it is just overwhelming. The Menu. The changes to the menu are not for the better. I miss the homemade chips! And where are some simple wrap options or chicken sandwich? And of course, prices, I know they're going to be a few bucks more but shesh, after spending a lot on a lift ticket, I'm going to get ripped off at lunch too. The atmosphere. The huge screen for watching football games or March Madness basketball games is gone. The iconic Bobsled, also gone. The cool ski posters, got rid of those too. Now the space is a stale with industrial lighting... basically, I'm left wondering where is the rustic charm? I don't want to feel like I'm at a NYC bar, I want to feel like I'm in VERMONT! Of course this place will keep on pumping, but in my opinion, I say, skip Grizzly's and head into the Village for better experience! read more

Too bad the stars didn't come in minuses. This dump deserves a minus star rating. Laughable, the service and food and headbanging drunks who must keep this dump in business. At a recent dinner, the room was ice cold, the food was awful, and the service was snooty. Imagine? At a dump that has a woofer the size of Rhode Island and enough beers for all the drunks in town, they had the audacity to be snooty in their service. You want heat? Nope. You want decent, edible food? Nope. The kicker -- there was NO oil and NO vinegar for a requested regular salad. NO vinegar? Nope. NO oil? Nope. NO OIL??? A couple of wedges of lemon were brought out and that - was - it. So, how does Chef 'Boy Is He A Hack' cook without oil? Can you IMAGINE? If not for the drunks and headbangers, this place would be out of business before I hit the send key. Sadly, the drunks and headbangers will keep this dump flourishing and allow them to foist lousy food and rotten service and miserable ambience on their customers who can go elsewhere to get good, decent food. Best apres at Stratton. For a on the mountain bar they have good prices for beer, great food and a chill atmosphere. Service is good and barkeeps are friendly. LONG TIME CUSTOMER REVIEW!!! This is my first yelp review, I had to give everyone perspective on this place and hopefully the management sees this.... First off, I have been coming to Grizzly's(sic) for over 20 years now. Every, single, year. I live in New York and am certainly used to my fair share of expensive drinks/food/cover charges. I have local accommodations and I've seen this place during its decline, and MAN was it fast! It was as fast as you can say Kaboom. Grizzly's was always the place to be. Big line, best apres, great crowd and reasonable food/drinks. They even had a $5 beer everyday on draught, which I'm pretty sure got bought out of the neighborhood by the $8 beers they now serve. The waitress' were great and came back year after year, the bartenders were nice enough, but always seemingly prepping for the next rush. In February, 2015 there was a kitchen fire which rendered the base unusable for nearly 9 months. Unfortunately, this is a possibility when you actually cook your food as opposed to just using a microwave, and Stratton had to deal with reconstructing their base lodge. The lodge was insured against fire, so Intrawest(Ticker:MTN, Valued at over $900 Million) didn't even notice. They saw this as a time to just hit everyone where it hurts. They came back with beers starting at $5 to beers starting at $7.25-$8. They increased the price of the chicken wings to cost $20 for the worst set of 12 wings you have ever had. They nixed the entire old menu for a microwavable menu and nothing ever comes out fresh or even remotely edible. I haven't heard one positive review since the new renovation yet and I'm at the mountain often chatting with ski regulars. Locals certainly don't go here. The new menu is garbage, the new prices are garbage, they are just turning it into a lego cafeteria so they can hire minimum wage employees to serve highly preserved food. As a matter of fact, I don't think anyone would go here if they didn't place the restaurant ON TOP of a mountain that has thousands of riders on a daily basis, its about convenience. Couple this with the fact that they hiked up the prices at every other establishment on the mountain and the ones at the base were ran out of business after a snowless 2016 winter (Miss you Whiskey Dick's), Grizzly's is the place to be! If you define "place to be" as the ONLY place to grab an alcoholic beverage and food at the mountains base. Its a shame someone wouldn't just open up a bar with quick food, cheap beers that is all about moving and having fun as opposed to Grizzly's which is about sending one person to the bar at noon to reserve a table so 4 people can watch a stupid band at 3:30PM. All while having very little capacity within the bar and one of the worst designed orientations I've seen in a while. Go ANYWHERE ELSE. It would be so easy to put this place out of business if the entire village wasn't all Intrawest owned with their price gouging. read more

grizzly's is an awesome place right on the mountain to grab a drink or some food when you're ready to come in from the cold. they have a decent selection of food and many good beers on tap. love their daily beer special. they also have several flat screen TVs and somehow always manage to have at least 3 of them tuned to bowling. Another highlight of my time spent at Grizzly's is the drumming DJ - the "DJ" that drums along to popular songs. classic. prices are a little steep, but that's a common theme throughout the rest of the mountain as well.
