    Small soft serve cone: blueberry

Little ice cream shop next to Family Fare. We stood in a long and slow-moving line tonight but it was worth it. Lots of ice cream options on the menu but my heart was set on soft serve. They had chocolate, vanilla, twist, Dole Whip, the lemon custard, (a raspberry that wasn't ice cream) and this week's special, blueberry. End of July in northwestern Michigan -- I had to get the blueberry. I ordered a small @$3 and got an abundance of ice cream. Happy customer!

Every summer my family has made a trip up to Michigan and every summer we have made sure to visit Dairy Maid at least nightly. Dairy Maid is an iconic spot in Frankfort not too far from a view of Lake Michigan and the Frankfort Lighthouse. This little ice cream shop has service down to an art for decades. They have seamlessly rolled into taking cards and started their own punch card reward program. When you plan your trip to this establishment don't be deterred by a line, the staff will breeze through the line and next thing you know it's your turn to order. Make sure to speak up so the employees can hear you above all the hard at work ice cream machines! After you pay, wait by the window to hear your order called out. Once you get your order, get to work, the portion sizes here are no joke and you'll need to focus to keep up with the licking of a cone! The flurries come 3 inches over the top so don't wait to dig in! For years I have tried to find a place that matches the rich flavors and service of Dairy Maid. But every time I come back, Dairy Maid outdoes themselves once again! If you want to get your money's worth in ice cream, head on over to Dairy Maid. You'll never be the same again!

Many flavors can have 2 twisted! Try lemon & English Toffee twist! Lemon is so popular for a reason so good!!!

Really good!! Lots of flavors I've never had before- and you can have 2 flavors made into twists. We call this soft-serve at home, here it is frozen custard... it's very tasty and refreshing they stay open late and this store has been voted the best 9 times- 9 years of happy people agreed! What are you waiting for!!??

I'm all for a funky local ice cream cottage, but our recent visit to the Dairy Maid was a bit of a bust. First, especially on hot summer nights, expect queues that don't move very quickly. However my excitement for their pineapple Dole Whip soft serve kept me in good spirits as I waited. Be careful to double check that what you ordered is what you receive, because I ended up with a coconut flavor instead of the pineapple. I didn't realize this till I sampled the cone back in the car, and didn't want to again navigate the long line to correct the situation. The coconut itself was artificial and had that Banana Boat lotion flavor. The much-lauded lemon custard also had an artificial note to it (not sure if it was lemon flavoring or the sweetener). On the sunny side, portions are massive (my photo is of a small cone) and prices are very reasonable ($2.00 for a small). They also seem to be one of the only shops in the region to offer Dole Whip, so hopefully I'll successfully try it one day...

This is a "small" flurry. Dairy Maid doesn't skimp on the soft serve or toppings!

We had Cherries Moobilee. It had plenty of cherries, chunks of brownie, with a chocolate swirl. We had a small, but it was very generous. There were a variety of favors. I wish I had room for more. There were a few tables indoors and outdoor seating at picnic tables on a deck overlooking the farm. The service was quick, and workers were helpful. You may have to seek it out, but it is worth the effort. I would definitely recommend Moomers.

The lengthy line moved quickly with an efficient process by the staff. An ice cream flight ($10?) was ordered. Five flavors were chosen. Each was about half a scoop I would say. The flavors I tried are below. Most of the ice cream was fulfilling, but not as creamy as I would have thought being homemade. Black Cherry - This was black cherry ice cream with pieces of Michigan cherry pieces. This was plain and did not really taste like anything except for the cherry pieces. Cherries Moobilee - This was black cherry ice cream with chocolate fudge swirl, brownie chunks, and black cherry chunks. Again, the ice cream was plain, but the pieces of everything else helped overcome that a little bit. Cherry Pie a La Mode - This was vanilla ice cream with cherry swirl and pie pieces. This was my favorite. The cherry swirl combined with the small pie pieces made for an appealing treat. Butter Pecan - This again just lacked flavor besides the pecan pieces. Lemon Raspberry - This was lemon ice cream with a raspberry swirl. This was just not good at all. The lemon did not taste like lemon at all, and there was hardly any raspberry. Even with a small portion, I would expect the swirl to be in every bite. Will I go back? Debatable.

The mocha is blended well, not too much chocolate and the coffee is tasty. I first stumbled upon Petals & Perks a few years during my first visit to Frankfort and I fell in love. The drink prices, in-comparison to the other coffee shops around, are on the cheaper end. I visited another coffee shop on main street and the small mocha at shop was $1+. Petals & Perks is large inside and can easily accommodate a variety of group sizes. I've visited during peak hours in which all of the tables in the front are taken up but they had a hidden back room that had a a few more tables and chairs. The staff has always been friendly anytime I've visited no matter how busy it is inside. This is a popular coffee shop so even if the line is long the staff is well trained to keep the line moving. If you want to avoid the crowd, come bring and early.
