Leaving at 4 stars for now because mishaps occur. Updating because yesterday's visit left me feeling a way, not a good way. I come to this location with my elderly mom to shop for her house. She would rather go to Safeway but I encourage her to come here. I am a big fan of grocery outlets. My mom has mobility issues and is self conscious about them. Yesterday during our visit at the checkout line, our checker, Gilvania is the name on the receipt, was not very kind to my mom when it took her a moment to move forward.. not okay! Her and I would have had words but that would have embarrassed my mom further. My mom's mobility issues are obvious, that was rude and embarrassing for an old sweet lady. I found these Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen packs (with thin noodles) at the grocery outlet this week, and I ended up buying quite a few. They're incredibly delicious and conveniently take only about three minutes to prepare. The broth is rich and almost restaurant-quality. When I add my own soft-boiled eggs, it turns into a really satisfying meal. Getting sick of buying food and coming home to see it is expired or you have 1 day left. You have to really dig to find anything that isn't expiring soon. The salmon they have in front is always disgusting with a metallic taste. Probably been sitting on a truck somewhere for some time in the heat. Who knows?? I am a wine neophyte but I need to bring some wine to a family dinner later this month. Since Grocery Outlet is having their famous 25% off wine sale I stopped in on my way home. For those of you wine lovers out there, they have an incredible selection. So many bottles of wine!!! All I knew was that I was asked to bring Cabernet and Tempranillo. But so many to choose from - I started to have an anxiety attack. Then Kevin asked me if I needed help and when I told him my assignment he walked me around the wine section and asked me some questions to find out some specifics to point me in the right direction. I love grocery outlets and have been to almost a dozen different locations, however this one is by far the worst one. I just moved to the area less than a year ago and was pretty excited to have a location within walking distance. This store doesn't seem to carry as much varieties of items as other stores but I make do with it and shop elsewhere for other necessities. The thing that bothers me the most about this location is the constant wrong pricing. Lately it has been almost 75% of the time. I brushed it off the first few times and didn't want to go back and get an adjustment as the one time i went to return the item that rang up 2.5x the cost, the cashier gave me a hard time even though I had clearly provided pictures of the price it was marked as. It was a waste of time and frustration for a few dollars. The management don't care to make sure their items scans correctly here and for some odd reasons, the employees seemed surprised when the price error is brought up. One time I bought a container of cinnamon that had a whole section with the price tag of black pepper, I did not look at the wordings on the tag as the price was the largest and most noticeable font, also the price tag was an inch from the floor since it was on the bottom shelf. A common mistake is when you buy a singluar can and it rings up as a 6 or 12 pack, which is obvious when the crv is $0.30 or $0.60. The pricing error isn't a huge problem but of you shop here, you're most likely looking for a bargain and to save a few bucks, that pricing error that charges you 2x or 3x defeats the purpose and you're better off shopping somewhere nicer and with more check stands. read more

Such a nice place to go with all the grocery and food prices increasing everywhere! This grocery outlet isn't incredibly big, but it's got a lot of what we're looking for and we stop by regularly when our daughter goes to dance practice in the same shopping center. Since we've started coming here more often we kinda know what they have or might have so that makes it easier and we don't often come up empty handed. They usually only have one type of whatever the item is, and it might not be the one you want or the cheapest option, so you usually feel committed to buying that one version, but, you really can save so much money on other things if it fits what you're looking for! read more

A great spot for groceries! It may seem like a small spot but boy do they pack a lot of goodies up in here! If your not super picky on your items you could absolutely get all of your grocery shopping done here! Plus it will cost you less! Who doesn't want to save a little where they can?! It is very rare that I come in looking for something that I can't find. Mostly I come in for one thing and leave with 20 more items than I wanted! I always like to look over their cheese selection which has grown over the last few years! They even have some local California cheese featured which I love! The nosh isle, their health isle, is also a great look through! We have some allergies in the family so I often pick up items from this isle. We eat gluten free sometimes too so we're always on the hunt for more options! I really like to stop by when looking for a new adult beverage. The alcohol section is always roatating so it's so easy to discover something new! And again it's cheaper than at the store so if you don't end up liking it then no harm no fowl! read more

It is a decent grocery store not as many choices as your normal local grocery stores and not a great organic section as well but decent prices and a lot of items. They have a nice liquor wine section, and also the produce is average. I was able to pick up a good amount of meat for barbecue that we're having. They don't have any customer help on the aisles if you're looking for any specific items so it would be nice if they had more people to help you find certain items. read more

Every time I come in they have mostly everything I am looking for and more. It is such a great bargain to come here and such a short trip from my home. I always try to come here first when shopping because you end up getting really great deals. The produce section is great. They fruits and vegetables are fresh. The raspberries I got were only 99 cents for the container! Fruit can be so expensive so this was a great price and they are so fresh. When I come in I also find something new to try or a really great find. I love the honey mustard pretzel bites and that whole bag was only 3 dollars! I also find some great dips to try. If you find something you like make sure you buy more of it because they run out and it might not be coming back. Grocery Outlet even has adds you can sign up for. Arrived at the Clayton store about 6 pm on Thursday. The store was busy. I noticed that there were 3 checkers with fairly long lines. When one of the 3 checkers closed thier line; the store became grid locked. What a mess. The lines were backed up down the isles. As I had a cart full of groceries and decided to wait a while sure that 2 or 3 checkers would appear to clear out the grid lock. No luck. No one was coming to assist. I left my cart and left the store. If this happens again; I'll stop shopping at this store. read more

Clean store and a great place to get cheap ingredients for my smoothies. I recommend getting the customer service novice with the pink braids off the check stand and into customer service training immediately. Pink braids did not greet me, did not speak to me throughout the transaction, and when she even failed to ask if I wanted bags for my cart full of purchases, she had to ring my 4 bags up separately and I had to pull my debit card out again for a .45 cent bag purchase. This idiot not only held me up she held up the customers behind me. She had the utter cluelessness to say to me... "You paid before I could charge you for your bag..." What a smart way to handle a customer service issue - blame the customer! What a moron. Like a typical Grocery Outlet, it may not have what you're looking for But Great place to get a few bargains but you should always check your goods expiration dates. They purchase surplus items and things in bulk so you can find some real gems the only thing is that the stock keeps changing so if you see something you want you should buy it the first time you see it or it might not be there next time. The employees are super friendly and very helpful. Check out is fast. Meat and Produce are fresh and reasonably priced. I got a few items my first time here. It is a smaller store than your normal Safeway and lucky's but you might find a few gems here. I would recommend this place if your looking to save a few dollars from your grocery bills, You wont find everything you will in a main Safeway, but will find the typical fruits and meat you would that have . and breakfast food and treats. read more

This store is decent, I've been shopping here for quite some time and learned what to buy and what to stay away from. Some of their produce vendors are trash. For example, their avocados and onions are bad most of the time. Their organic product options are is extremely limited to non existent. I come here all the time. Like ALL the time. I love the store. I do all my shopping here. What I don't love is the staff always majorly stocking with carts full during business hours so you have to wedge around them, or feel like an inconvenience. Or the checker today who threw my 2 bottles of LIGHTER FLUID sideways on top of other groceries, which of coursed leaked out, and covered that bag full of groceries in LIGHTER FLUID. Grocery Outlet i always approach with little expectations in a treasure hunt mode. why? their inventory depends on deals they can find. if no deals found, no deals here. it's a low end version of Costco. brew: big bear black stout (3.99 )8.1%. 22 oz/ -smooth hefty stout, no hoppiness,, just stout baby! organic chocolate stout, bison brewing (2.99) 5% alc,, 22oz. slightly bitter, chocolately, not much alkie punch, sweet tasting take outs: -so wary of wines here, glad some named beers available. -check out better than average. read more

This shopping center continues to evolve with newer stores replacing the older ones. I forget which store was here a year ago. But Grocery Outlet has moved in. Not long ago, there was only one Grocery Outlet in the entire area, now there are three. And we benefit. Clayton & Ygnacio Valley is an area I don't go into very much anymore. I was relatively close on Sunday, though, so I thought I'd check out the new kid in town. And it's typical Grocery Outlet. Low prices on quality foods. They don't have everything, and what they do have changes from month to month - sometimes from week to week. This store has more produce than the ones in Concord and Pleasant Hill. Naturally, they can't beat the Dollar Tree across the parking lot, but Dollar Tree mostly carries items that GO does not, so this is almost one-stop shopping for the items you need. And I walked out of the store with a Coke, Hawaiian onion rings, and a dozen huge donuts for the house church gathering later that day. Like a typical Grocery Outlet, it may not have what you're looking for, so Food Maxx is 1-1/2 miles west if you need it. And Safeway is across the road if you feel the urge to spend more money on groceries. And for us normal people, GO is a good place to visit for discounted food. read more

I just came from Grocery Outlet in Clayton. As I got into line, there was a couple - very tall man and a shorter female - both had masks on, but not over their nose. I reminded them that you need to put it over your nose, and the man told me he didn't because of the American Civil Liberties (?) , etc, because he has asthma. Woman didn't say anything. I said that if that was the case, he needs to wait in the car. . . He was rude and aggressive, so I didn't say more. About then, they were called over to register #1 so I took it as a "just as well". . . Then I looked up at my check out person, and she had her mask down around her neck - no where near her nose. . . How do they advertise to go on their email list, so you can get a $3 coupon?! Yet when I shopped in person I just tried using a coupon that was on their salsa, that was only 75cents off! The lady that was a cashier had told me, "no we don't accept coupons they just won't scan" bullsh*t all other stores accepts them! To the Owners/Management, take this as Sincere Praise and Constructive Criticism. Pros: Great Deals on health supplements, energy bars and organic dairy. It really saves dollars in the pocket and it is very appreciated. Your selection of beer/wine is decent with some gems coming in seasonally. Compared to other local G.O. stores, you are a cut above. And your exotic coffees and sodas are always welcome. The buyer has good connections! Cons: From the inception of your store there is a continual problem with price tags missing from items. So, it is continually annoying having to ask or bring an item up to the counter for a price check. ( An employee told me that kids come in there and take the price tags off. Really? For years now. Sorry. Skeptical. ) Also, there supposedly was a "Christmas Blowout Sale" of 50% off. The items rung up priced as marked. Another customer and I were discussing what we thought the sign meant: 50% off of the displaying sticker price. Otherwise, it was the usual price, not a "blowout". Believe me, other major retailers mean "Blowout" by marking down another 25 -50% off of the already discounted price. You lost my money on this transaction, because it was either false advertising or someone forgot to input the adjustment into the system for the supposed sale. Keep up the good work in the areas you excel; improve in the areas where you either purposely don't want to work on or forget to. You lose more money from me when the sloppiness continues. read more

Good but random. Lots of short coded or seasonal stuff that didn't sell. Nothing expired though. Some real gems that you might find at Whole Foods but for much less money. But, can't ever complete my shopping list here. No sandwich bread with 1g or less of sugar, no lettuce heads for salad, all the prepared guacamole was gross and no fresh bread like at Safeway. They have great things for great prices. Staff is good too store is bright big and airy. Not so good part: Be wary of dates. Check it. Triple check it. Sometimes a worker can miss a date or two. Wines: They're generic off brand wines or wines with older vintages or the label changes and they're on a blowout. So be careful to know what your buying as alcohol cannot be returned easily. read more
