Rule number one: always check the expiration date of anything you buy. Rule number two calculate the actual price from other markets. The grocery outlet price is competitive, but not always lower. Watch out for the produce. It isn't always the freshest. I stay far away from the meats. Also from prior price comparisons that section isn't actually that competitive. I'm kind of amazed that for a chain that claims to be getting products from other markets that are about to expire or have excellent prices that the products in the store don't actually change that much. And I notice a lot of their specialty items aimed at the alternative diet market are not bargains at all. They are pretty much the same price as price competitive stores like Costco. And the one thing about Costco is you know the stuff is fresh. The real question is, can you finish it before the expiration date. You've got a chance with the Costco product. But with grocery outlet? There are some categories at the grocery outlet, which are kind of impressive. They range from the standard offerings of a regular supermarket to some fairly exotic choices. I have included three photos of the cooking oils. I was very impressed with this particular grocery outlet. The store was meticulously clean, the shelves were near perfectly stocked with a row after a row of completely full shelves. Checkout was relatively slow since there weren't enough people working the registers to handle the crowd. Also people kept shifting lines, hoping for a more optimal solution. the wine selection was amazingly large for a grocery outlet. But keep remembering this grocery outlet is located in Napa. I usually enjoy looking for an interesting wine that I haven't tried. But the selection here was so wild loaded with wineries that I had never heard of that I didn't have a chance. There were so many choices that in the end I was boggled and just couldn't make a choice at all.

From balloons to streamers, everything was high-quality and priced at just $1.25 each. The staff was friendly and helped me find the best items for the party. I was also able to grab some useful household products while I was there, including cleaning supplies that worked just as well as those from other stores. I've been missing out! The store is nicely organized into sections. Although for some of the sections items were rather jumbled, and there was a bit of a rummage needed HomeGoods differs from other discounted stores with their extensive stock of familiar and somewhat higher end brands. Just to pick out something randomly I noticed they had Dr. Bronner's soaps and some Dr. Teals products. Unlike other discounted chains, I've heard of and used both their products in the past and I was pleased with both. They also had brands which I own, the globals and the aroma. The discounts were quite reasonable. But I am a pretty hardened shopper. I have a nearly impenetrable defense which generates a force field which the store must break down possibly using a photon torpedo. Here are some of the factors which must be overcomed 1) Duplication: happens more often than not. 2) practical. 3) I don't have much space. 4) a genuine discount. Not those frou -frou 20% off fake sales. Stay away from stores that raise the original price for sales. Macys I'm looking at you. 5) Must equal or exceeds the quality and performance of what I already have. 6) Must be in one of my areas of interest. That would be cooking, books or for some mysterious reason my sock addiction. 7) All resistance can be eliminated if the item is beautiful. HomeGoods came really, really close to punching through the protective force field, melting my brain and turning me into a complete zombie who would willingly shuffle to the register, precious cargo loaded in my arms, and burning a hole in my credit cards. There is absolutely no doubt if I keep returning to the store, I will be zombified. Now that is what I call a great store!

It's of course all woolen and in those winters that's not a bad choice all woolen. Of course, if the Pendleton stores stocked all the goods from the East Coast, people would think they were living in a sauna. So they've added West Coast woolen goods and I guess the stereotypical West Coast woolen goods comes from the Native American traditions. At least that's what those patterns look like to me. I told the sales staff that I was waiting for a different year. Honestly, these particular patterns match absolutely nothing I own. So while I adore wool clothing, I have enough experience with moths on the West Coast to realize the stuff is going to be eaten down in no time. Apparently they haven't made any space-age wools that contain moth repellent. I am going to have to pass on Pendleton's for the for seeable future. They have got to get rid of those patterns. BTW, Pendleton makes some of the best wool products in the business. I have some socks from these guys. While all my other socks are biting the dust including some really high quality hand knit ones, the Pendleton just keep going.

I found a little set of bins, loaded with useful supplies for some of my favorite but more obscure hobbies. I was really really impressed by the coffee table that was priced at $.85. That is correct cents. This was so unbelievable that I checked the price tags three times. Unfortunately, it didn't fit my car, it doesn't match any of my decor and it doesn't fit my spaces. Oh well There are some sections, such as the stationary area that are so reliably overstocked that I don't even bother to visit office supply stores or check out Amazon before I shop here. In fact when I wanted to measure an item, I wished I had bought a tape measure. But then it occurred to me that the overstocked stationary area would probably have lots of rulers. Problem solved. For once, I arrived early enough that I could donate. I've been diligently collecting my donations and missing the donation times for almost a year. It pays to sign up for the mailing list because they will unexpectedly shut down donations because they no longer have any storage. This has happened to me multiple times until I wised up and got the emails. I rummaged over enough stuff, lost track of time, and finally snapped out of it when my stomach told me to go home. In spite of the attractive sale,, it was not overcrowded. It was still comfortable and gave you plenty of space to look at items and try to figure out what some of the more obscure objects were. I didn't actually end up buying very much. But clearly the fun was in the treasure hunt.
